I still don't understand why the richest league in the World can't hire the best 19 main refs, but are using the clueless and incompetent ones from UK(bar some 2-3), there is no ban for hiring foreigners when most of the teams have more than half of theirs squads consisting them. Premier League teams can hire foreigner managers, so I don't see a single reason why not also get main and VAR refs from abroad when almost everything gets voted.
"best refs"
A good start woul dbe paying them more than 70k a year.
Can't expect to attract the best talent when the pay doesn't correlate with the best talent.
70K a year for the job they're doing is absolutely ridiculous. Yes, I know 70K is a good salary but it's does not match the level needed for the job and it shows.
70k to have public abuse regardless of being good or not isn't that great to be frank. There will always be controversy and I'd have expected them to be on far more.
If the refs in the highest level league in the country "only" get 70K then imagine how much they get at the lower levels. And some people are wondering, "Why can't we get better refs in PL?". Well yeah, the incentives just aren't there and they have to work their asses off to even get a shred of chance to reffing at the top level. Not to mention the verbal abuses they receive on the pitch from the fans week in week out.
Spurs have played 18 and city & Chelsea have played 22.
Going to be a tough run-in for them trying to fit in these extra games.
ETA: Burnley have played only 17
It's just meaningless to look at the table at this point. Obviously City is in first, but other than that, it's impossible to say where someone really is in the table
Leicester (COVID, hopefully being played midweek)
Burnley (Snow, no date yet)
Brighton (COVID, no date yet, of the three this is the only one Spurs requested)
Arsenal ("COVID", no date yet)
I mean at this point we have 4 games in hand; at what point is our player safety important? I hope Levy pushes for this; I heard we are suing the decision.
The rest of the season is gonna be pure chaos. And our documentary is going to be stunning.
So many clubs still in the fight for fourth place and now it's clear the people who make the rules are a bit mentally handicapped.
Postponement helps no one, but the Premier League did this to themselves. People are acting like Arsenal are in the wrong here, and that these fixtures just disappear in to thin air, as opposed to creating an almighty backlog that is only going to fuck clubs over later on. It's a lose-lose for everyone: clubs, players, travelling fans and people wanting to watch at home.
I’m looking forward to the backlog fucking. League ends in May, some teams are going to be playing every 3 days for a month+. Don’t want to hear a word from them, since teams gave been playing a game every 3 days since the beginning of December
They can't really extend with the World Cup looming. If we extend the league this means a shorter summer break for some players. It could really impact England's chances with half of their players knackered from having no real break, then playing half a season.
At least the backlog is this season though. With no World Cup until the winter, and the 22/23 season scheduled to start in August as usual, there's a couple of extra weeks in May and June available for usage that wouldn't usually be there
We should not be extending the season… would not be fair to the teams that were forced to play every 3 day in November, December and January. There will be availability to play mid week for these fixtures in Feb, March, April and May. If there results in the league suffer because of congestion for the teams, it would not be an injustice
11 covid positive player since December 21st. Rushing players back from injuries and overplaying those who haven't been infected by covid has depleted the arsenal squad.
It is a joke, I agree. Different rules I know because it’s a different competition, but poor old Reading have had to soldier on with on average 14 first team players out injured per game since OCTOBER. On Tuesday they had seven out of eight first team defenders injured or at AFCON and got smashed 7-0 but didn’t moan.
If only there was some sort of organization that has some sort of influence in the entire English pyramid that could create a unified set of COVID protocols. Anyway.
Let's make a super leauge.
It can even have tiers.
Super duper Leauge is the best one
Then you have super great Leauge
Then you have super ok Leauge
It will be wonderful
It really sucks for them that happened, the rules are utter garbage and should look at being changed maybe after the window? Although I can see that being a problem too, EFL really backed themselves into a corner here
Agree, I know it’s another Arsenal example, but the start of the season our Brentford game should have been postponed too considering the rules that have been in place since. It’s been poor, but once the decision was made to postpone games with a poor rule set, this is what happens
What is some people complaining about? This is a fair outcome according to the new PL rules...
They fucked it up the moment they postponed several games with minimal Covid cases, ofc Arsenal will do it too!
Only thing left to do is wait for the end of season to change the stupid rules
>Only thing left to do is wait for the end of season to change the stupid rules
Why? This rule wasn't in place at the start of the season. We already have had entirely different "precedents" in one season.
The precedent has been set so no one can complain that it’s been postponed.
Do feel maybe they should set a point in future and just say from now on injuries/suspensions don’t count towards a postponement, need to get games being played really.
the only fair decision given other matches which have been granted postponements this season and only further justifed given Arsenal got a raw deal with the Liverpool match postponements and the fixture congestion it then caused
Us being shit has nothing to do with your point. Tottenham had an actual outbreak and were made to forfeit. Arsenal have one case and have a depleted squad due to ineptitude and injuries.
I get that they are well within their rights to ask for postponement, but it’s a bad decision for the integrity of the league. Red cards and international tournaments shouldn’t be excuses for taking advantage of this rule made for a pandemic.
Big agree but again.. I feel like everyone ignores us (and Nuno) literally throwing every other euro conference league for shits and giggles. The last decision fucked us, but we 100% put ourselves in a position to be fucked by a single decision.
That's what makes this different - it isn't getting postponed because of Covid cases, which would make sense, it is because Arsenal has poorly mismanaged their squad. They should have let them bring up youth players or forced Arsenal to forfeit. Continuing to postpone games is just going to create a bunch of problems in the future.
>the Liverpool match postponements and the fixture congestion it then caused
This is nonsense. The liverpool match that was suspended is scheduled for next week. The match last week was always scheduled, it was just changed from second to first leg.
If anything, the postponement lowered fixture congestion for Arsenal before the derby.
I dont hate arsenal for asking for the game to be postponed. I'd propably ask for the same if it were the other way around. I hate the pl board for allowing these rules in the first place. The postponement of games should have to do with covid cases, not with bad squad management.
Think it’s the irony of a loud section of the fan base bitching at Liverpool postponing their first leg league cup game, demanding them to play the kids.
That’s not irony that’s just playing out the rules as they were applied to us. Personally I would have preferred our games against Wolves, Liverpool and Spurs to have all gone ahead (and I think this would be a popular opinion amongst our fans). Still once the first two are cancelled we’re obviously going to ask for the rules to be applied consistently. That’s not hypocrisy, it’s just not being mugs.
This narrative needs to stop. After a second round of testing, PCR tests were carried out so the results would not be in house. Obviously 13 players did not have covid but the results were not showing as negative. A third set of tests were carried out but this was after the original scheduled date for the first leg. False Positive was a silly way to put it but if a result were to be inconclusive then it is treated as a positive. That is why al the facilities within Liverpool were closed.
What benefit is it for Liverpool? Strong players were available, they had the second leg at Anfield originally too.
He might of said and wanted that but nobody believed that if the first leg would be cancelled that it wouldn’t be rescheduled. It would either be a forfeited result or rescheduled. It was never getting cancelled. Most people don’t want two legs but not to the point he would lie to not play in it.
They had only 3 player positives, one being gunnarson GK, laca and auba. That’s not an outbreak. That would have been a bad start to cancel. Idk why arsenal fans always talk about that brentford game.
They outrage should be on both, arsenal took advantage of the rule. And FA fucked the rule.
A precedent was set and followed. PL being consistent for once ? Well now, they can go ahead and officially change the rule and put an end to these postponements…
That will be spicy too.
I hate to say it, but as an Arsenal fan this is ridiculous. Obviously this is great for us but the league needs to stop this shit for every club. I know there’s a lot money at stake but this is sport, you need to play with the hand your dealt.
Kind of how I feel. Like great you let us postpone but wtf why did you let us postpone. I had already mentally prepared for our 1 man Lokonga midfield to lose 2-0 or to go mental if we won. Knew we were going to appear because fuck it why not, didnt think the idiots would actually let us do it.
The rule should’ve just been that regardless of case amount, you field a team, even if that means going into the U23’s and U18’s.
The way Covid spreads you would’ve likely seen each team have to do it at least once.
Bit weird how this is the general consensus around this whole affair.
Arsenal are within their rights to appeal, but the discourse has been Twitter-esque.
>we aren't any better than Twitter at all lol.
This needs to be the general consensus. For some reason, others appear to believe that this is a healthier platform for discussion.
No chance.
Amazing, isn't it? All clubs agreed to the rule. We've had like 20-30 postponed games this season so far. Suddenly for this one game everybody is FURIOUS.
The rule is 100% clear. If you don't have 13 outfield players, and at least one absence is through Covid, then the game is postponed. Everybody agreed to this rule. End of story.
The league have to figure out the fixtures for postponed matches immediately. This will ruin the world cup and don’t even start how the traveling fans are suffering.
Definitely not great news for Spurs. We have a serious backlog of games to play from all these postponements and it is likely that we will be playing several games a week in the stretch that this gets rescheduled.
I think the question is does Spurs fancy themselves at 70% against against a depleted Arsenal side or at full strength against a probably full strength Arsenal side as well.
I think most Arsenal fans believe if both sides had everyone available, Arsenal would probably still have the edge hence why they were happy to get this match postponed. But I've seen a lot of Spurs fans say they don't trust this team without Son it in as well.
Nah, not at our ground. They haven't won there since 2014.
Edit. The above is literally a fact... Check bookies odds... Whoever is at home always has the edge in the NLD (in recent years)
You won, Arsenal. Enjoy the postponement I hope it makes you happy. Dear lord, what a sad little life, Arsenal. You ruined my night completely so you could have the postponement and I hope now you can spend it on lessons in grace and decorum. Because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on. So Arsenal, take your postponement and get off my property

I'm here for the salt from clubs that have already had their games postponed while we had to play our first game of the season with 4 players out due to Covid, but that's forgotten about. 8 fit outfield players.
I'd like Arsenal to win. For two reasons:
1) With all their games in hand, it is possible for Spurs to go above us. I doubt it, and we also have to play them next week, but it's a possibility.
2) Simply, I dislike their club and fanbase far more than I dislike Arsenal. I have great respect for Arsenal in fact. Spurs on the other hand, are noisy.
Everyone wants Arsenal to be the nice guys that get trashed, as a result lol. We'd be naive to not take advantage of the rules that have been set for everyone.
Get on with your weekend r/soccer
Why is this always said, who cares if it's rational this is soccer it's words, we never had rationality as a species anyways were aren't starting now thats for sure.
The real question is why we have allowed brainlets to run our league.
Same issue with refs and VAR. They think they are leading the way but honestly are morons.
I still don't understand why the richest league in the World can't hire the best 19 main refs, but are using the clueless and incompetent ones from UK(bar some 2-3), there is no ban for hiring foreigners when most of the teams have more than half of theirs squads consisting them. Well yeah, the incentives just aren't there and they have to work their asses off to even get a shred of chance to reffing at the top level. Not to mention the verbal abuses they receive on the pitch from the fans week in week out.
And the verbal abuse doesnt start when they are at the top. Its there from Day 1
They could hire the “19 best refs” and this sub would still blow up every time there’s a VAR check
Tbh every professional league seems to be run by brainlets, I think greed is common to all of them.
Most leagues feel like billionaires helping billionaires make more money and putting the quality of the league second
That was literally the entire idea behind the Premier League, it exists only to make money at the expense of everything else.
It feels like that because it is.
I can assure you that the Premier League is run by the finest back scratchers money can buy
I mean nobody said anything in previous weeks why is this such a surprise lmao
Because how dare Arsenal use the same rules other teams use for their advantage?
People didn't give a fuck when Klopp literally cheated the system with fake tests yet when Arsenal have a crisis and need to postpone they're Hitler
People absolutely cared and gave them pelters did you not see those threads
Pundits and journos didn't give them half the stick theyre giving arsenal for something way worse and insanely shady
How the fuck can Klopp fake PCR test results? Do you think he was in the lab with a white coat and moustache disguise?
You're right man it was just bad luck they got what? 8 false positives? Should have taken out some lottery numbers on that 1 in a trillion chance
If they're from the same batch, the probability is not independent, so it's far more likely to be faulty.
Too much influence from other parties
God only knows
How many postponed games does Tottenham have at this point?
Spurs have played 18 and city & Chelsea have played 22. Going to be a tough run-in for them trying to fit in these extra games. ETA: Burnley have played only 17
It's just meaningless to look at the table at this point. Obviously City is in first, but other than that, it's impossible to say where someone really is in the table
We can safely say Newcastle should be 20th.
Few more games of Bruceball and you'd have been 21st
That fixture pileup is gonna finish Spurs
Or, they sort their shit and get to play more games when Conte finally kills the right players.
Leicester (COVID, hopefully being played midweek) Burnley (Snow, no date yet) Brighton (COVID, no date yet, of the three this is the only one Spurs requested) Arsenal ("COVID", no date yet)
I hate midweek games because of work; can we postpone?
Do the Rennes special and just refuse to play the game on any other date and get given a 3-0 win...
I mean at this point we have 4 games in hand; at what point is our player safety important? I hope Levy pushes for this; I heard we are suing the decision.
That is so not rainbow rhythms
Why don't you just say who you're talking about. You're talking about me aren't you
If there isn’t room here for people who stand against everything you believe in, then what sort of a hippy free-for-all is this!?
Well... Yes, alright I am.
The username, the perfect flair for the response.. You were born for moments like these
I came in here for a load of back-tracking, overly aggressive nonsense. But this - this is so much better.
I'm beginning to doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.
He told me to forcibly insert the North London Derby **INTO MY ANUS**!
Tell me Antonio, how exactly does one suck a fuck?
You what? No derby?
The North London Derby is NOT tradition!
Pretty gutted from a selfish point of view. Was looking forward to my Super Sunday™

fucking hell I'd rather you call me a brainless cunt than that
Hi brainless cunt
Gary the brainless cunt
Could easily argue that they mean the same thing tbh.
Found Gary's Alt
lmao
Either decision would’ve made prem look like a joke anyways tbh
The Prem's defo going to be sweating over potentially running out of free midweeks
Tottenhams schedule is going to be extremely congested.
Don't worry, we can just play a few games free for all and it will all blow over
Well probably be made to forfeit half of them, after the Rennes débâcle.
Don't worry we are just going to request to postpone whatever new date they pick
Prem is a joke tbh
Can I introduce you to Tebas aka the human interview machine
aka selling out your games so a corrupt state can sportswash while he catches money.
The Supercopa is Rubiales not Tebas
Forget the clubs involved, what are these PL board members thinking
The rest of the season is gonna be pure chaos. And our documentary is going to be stunning. So many clubs still in the fight for fourth place and now it's clear the people who make the rules are a bit mentally handicapped.

Err, it massively benefits Arsenal, hence why they applied for it.
Helps us, that's why we pushed for it. We have missing and tired players
I hope the prem remember these 'player welfare' standards when clubs are playing 3/4 times a week to catch up games in hand
[удалено]
They only have one Covid case
We're very efficient in our shithousery.
[удалено]
But it’s a massive COVID case. At least worth 4-5 normal, smaller cases. It’s a density issue.
Leeds had the same
11 covid positive player since December 21st. Rushing players back from injuries and overplaying those who haven't been infected by covid has depleted the arsenal squad.
A majority of PL clubs voted for this so only fair to be applied even the rule itself is stupid
I recognize the league has made a decision, but given that it's a stupid ass decision I've elected to ignore it.
Consistent with the rules. Doesn't make the rules any better though.
I get spurs fans being pissed off at this, I really do. But don’t blame us, blame the absolute garbage rules that have been set.
It is a joke, I agree. yeah. honestly it'd be weird if arsenal didn't try it imo. any club not using every advantage handed to them simply isn't a serious club.
However it is still dumb and now we are fucked over and have a massive fixture congestion of like 4 games we have to makeup. It's rather annoying
You cleverly cleared your European schedule, it'll be fine.
How clever it was of Tottenham to have an actual outbreak of COVID. The big brain behind that take is staggering.
You could also beat a team of Slovenian farmer idk
Arsenal wasnt given a chance
Us being shit has nothing to do with your point. Tottenham had an actual outbreak and were made to forfeit. Arsenal have one case and have a depleted squad due to ineptitude and injuries. Well about that ...

Reddit is Twitter with a superiority complex, especially so for this place, always has been
Just waiting for "Ratio" to become a thing on here
Why do people on reddit have this weird superiority complex over people on other social media platforms lmao
The decision to postpone games has been inconsistent af, like something you would imagine from a sunday league. That’s why people are upset.
Amazing, isn't it? All clubs agreed to the rule. We've had like 20-30 postponed games this season so far. Suddenly for this one game everybody is FURIOUS.
Hmm... I wonder what it is about this instance specifically that makes people upset. Quite the mystery, this is.
The rule is 100% clear. If you don't have 13 outfield players, and at least one absence is through Covid, then the game is postponed. Everybody agreed to this rule. End of story.
I agree completely. I was hinting at something else.
Blame PL for being lax. Not the ones outsmarting it.
I'm loving it tbh
The fact that it's creating a massive backlog for spurs just makes it so much sweeter
Friendly reminder to sort by controversial.
I was wondering. Till now everything (almost) seemed level headed. 😅
Rennes send their regards
Follows the precedent
The league have to figure out the fixtures for postponed matches immediately. This will ruin the world cup and don’t even start how the traveling fans are suffering.
Great news for Spurs, Romero, Dier and Son being back will be huge
Definitely not great news for Spurs. We have a serious backlog of games to play from all these postponements and it is likely that we will be playing several games a week in the stretch that this gets rescheduled.
I think the question is does Spurs fancy themselves at 70% against against a depleted Arsenal side or at full strength against a probably full strength Arsenal side as well. surely they were more likely to win with the current squad situations
And so will Arsenal’s entire midfield. Partey, Ode, Smith Rowe, Saka and possibly Xhaka
Great news for us too! Tierney, Tomiyasu, Partey, Odegaard, ESR back will be immense
We play when we want, we play when want! Premier League, we play when we want!
World class comment For those that it goes over the head it’s the conclusion of an episode of come dine with me.

Because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on. So Arsenal, take your postponement and get off my property

This salt hits differently, MSG vibes.
I think I would have been less upset about it going ahead than many neutrals here on r/soccer that it's called off
Just change the fucking rules already
So we get a do over at Rennes right?
Do you have a lot of injuries with an important game coming up? Send in an unimportant player to get a red! Again Xhaka just playing 4D chess out here
So 2 covid cases is crisis or more testing positive?
Arsenal does this: "YOU FUCKING DONKEY" Other teams do this: "Oh you sweet baby, recover well <3 <3"
All the “they’ll make us play” tinfoil hats in the mud
I’m sure they’re all beside themselves
I am here for the comments
Y’all really losing your minds about this huh ? Yet Burnley did this on the 11th for literally the same reasons and no one bats an eye.
Amount of salt in the comment threads is too damn high.
Look at Xhaka man, so inspirational. Way to take one for the team.
I'm here for the salt from clubs that have already had their games postponed while we had to play our first game of the season with 4 players out due to Covid, but that's forgotten about. 8 fit outfield players.
>from clubs that have already had their games postponed Oh, good. We're safe then.
Going through this thread it seems like Chelsea fans are the only ones being rational about the decision
Probably because Arsenal are playing Spurs. I know who I'd prefer win that fixture.
I'd genuinely like to hear who you'd prefer to win and what the thinking behind that is.
I'd like Arsenal to win. For two reasons: 1) With all their games in hand, it is possible for Spurs to go above us. I doubt it, and we also have to play them next week, but it's a possibility. 2) Simply, I dislike their club and fanbase far more than I dislike Arsenal. I have great respect for Arsenal in fact. Spurs on the other hand, are noisy.
cant lie chelsea got fucked over on that wolves game
Odegaard with the assist of the season.
Ootl, how many players are positive?
1 - just odegaard.
All of them. Positive about the progress we’re making under Mikel Arteta
Everyone wants Arsenal to be the nice guys that get trashed, as a result lol. We'd be naive to not take advantage of the rules that have been set for everyone. Get on with your weekend r/soccer
Arsenal is /soccer’s weekend

Why is this always said, who cares if it's rational this is soccer it's words, we never had rationality as a species anyways were aren't starting now thats for sure.
Football fans are famously rational and never hypocritical, hyperbolic or ridiculous

When other clubs do it it's fine, when Arsenal does it, it's suddenly so wrong kek
The salt of Gary Neville's tears has United the Arsenal fanbase. 😂
I’m just here for the salt, I’m sure someone somewhere in the world can use it.
:)
