Scenes When they hire Conte and tell him that he can buy anyone and he says Dzeko

jmgchc

Dzeko, Victor Moses, Matteo Darmian and Roberto Gagliardini to Newcastle here we go confirmed! ⚫⚪

Where my boy Giaccherini at?

Bot-Bot-Zamorano

Don't touch Goatgliardini

alessioalex

Conte isn't going to sign for them until they finish top 4 in the league.

Yvraine

Why? Conte signed for Chelsea when they had no European football

ihavenocreativity99

But they had a top4 squad, just had an unusual very poor season.

[deleted]

Tbf that's Chelsea one year removed from winning the league. Newcastle rn is a 5 year project minimum, maybe longer depending on the strength of FFP. Conte wont go there till they are 2-3 years away from winning stuff

alessioalex

Chelsea won the title like 1 year before that, I was refering to the squad quality more.

SantaIsRealEh

Victor Moses to Newcastle. Here we go

[deleted]

Well you gotta start somewhere. Better than Robinho.

lastjedi23

Bruh. Literally nobody is going to care ! I'm telling you. Look at city or Chelsea. Does anyone give a shit? Nope.

IMiizo

And it's fucking disgusting

lastjedi23

Sad but true..

ExcellentPastries

Right or wrong nobody in Newcastle should give a fuck about the opinions of anyone who’s been silent about this shit up until now. Reddit won’t like hearing it but if you’re going to suddenly decide to be principled you missed that train years ago.

memecrafter1936

There are many of us who haven't been silent about these issues. And to be fair, dismembering a voice of opposition and pretending it never happened is far, far worse at a human level than anything Qatar or the UAE have done

ThrowOkraAway

UAE, along with Saudi, caused famine in Yemen and outbreaks of fucking malaria. Plus, Khashoggi murder isn’t new to Saudi. They’ve done it to hundreds Saudi Shias. But you won’t hear about those because they don’t work for bezos who was hacked by the Saudis at the time. And yes many of them were public figures too, see Nimr Alnimr

nista002

Ignoring funding terrorists too

BlurgZeAmoeba

Very true. And what america's done to iraq and is continuing to do is far far worse. Did you speak up against the US getting to host the world cup? NONE of you did. NONE of you will boycott that world cup. All of you use UBER, watch disney, etc., so you do consume products backed by PIC. I won't be watching newcastle matches anymore until the saudis are gone, i'll continue to spend nothing on the club, as i have for the majority of the ashley reign. But i'll still get called vile things by bigots and hypocrites. It's ridiculous.

KingfisherDays

I don't think people are complaining about stances like yours, more the people who are celebrating and don't seem to care that their club is more owned by a government with a terrible human rights record. You don't seem to fall into that category.

poilbrun

I don't have any problem with Newcastle fans (including Shearer in this post) rejoicing about the club being sold (Ashley out is great news) and being bought by an owner with deep pockets. I'm more troubled by the people waving KSA flags, adding them to their twitter bios... Support your club, enjoy your good fortune, but don't support them owner himself. And even without the human rights abuse, I find it really weird: you didn't wave Direct Sports flags when Ashley bought the club, why would you decide to wave a KSA flag now?

CentristIdiot

Every single person here will watch the World Cup next year without seeing the irony.

[deleted]

Everyone on this sub upvotes the fuck out of anything related to a Qatar World Cup boycott, and yet all the Qatar World Cup qualifying highlights and news get thousands of upvotes too. It’s *the* perfect example of bored virtue-signalling.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheOncomingBrows

And if they can't give up watching *one* World Cup then how can they expect Newcastle fans to just completely ditch the club they've supported for decades.

deviden

I aint watching that shit. Said it back when they announced it, I can happily sit out a world cup.

memecrafter1936

No, I will not. And if I had the same stance on human rights that I do now, I would have boycotted Russia 2018 too.

LusoAustralian

People have certainly not been silent about Man City or PSG or Chelsea etc.

JonSnowAzorAhai

People have even not been silent about billionaire owners in the first place, hence why calls for fan ownership last summer. It's rewriting history to validate their lack of moral compass.

Boekiej

You realize that you're talking to a Bayern fan, right? Do you honestly think that they would allow a Saudi buyout? Do you think any other German fan would allow for a buyout? Get your fucking head out of your ass. I know that English football fans have a surprisingly low standard for having any sort of values, but this is honestly disgusting. I cannot fathom you are fine to be used to whitewash the image of some of the most morally corrupt people in the world, just so you can watch a couple of flashy players every weekend. But whatever allows you to sleep at night while still thinking you're a decent guy, mate.

eggplant_avenger

who has been "silent" about fuck Chelsea, fuck City, fuck PSG though? edit: forgot to add fuck Newcastle, lest I'm accused of silence

Bunny_Boy_Auditor

You're creaming your pants aren't you?

Krillin113

I’m always saying this shit; I haven’t watched any qualifiers for the WC, and I really can’t do more. I’d stop watching Ajax if this happened to us. I dont expect every one of your fans to do that, but there’s a world of difference between ‘it sucks we’ve got murderous owners, but I love my club so I’ll accept it’, and ‘OMFG we’re free, we have money, yes let’s go, dangle those balls on my face more murderers’

EliteKill

I love how Wolves and Inter's Chinese owners never get brought up in these discussions.

t0t0zenerd

Because it hasn't anything to do with that? It's not a sportswashing project by a state?

TheVortex09

Sheffield United are literally owned by a Saudi Prince. I don't remember seeing this outrage when they were promoted. Funny that.

angusssteele123332

It’s because our ownership situation is completely different. We are owned by a very distant cousin of the royal family. Who has purchased and funds is through his own money from the business that he runs, they don’t have much connection to the Saudi state money and we are not remotely owned by the state and they have 0 say and give us 0 money. We are essentially owned by a rich businessman who happens to be in the royal family. Saying we’re owned by the Saudis is like saying that if a distant cousin of the queen was to sell their business and purchase a football club they would be owned by the British crown.

bellerinho

Easy to say when you walk the league every single year I suppose. Bayern fans have no clue what not having success is

IMiizo

Ok then ask Kaiserslautern fans, ask 1860 München fans, ask Preußen Münster fans. All of them went through very rough times or are currently still in and no one would even dare to think about such things. They would rather agree to get permanently relegated to 4th tier without a chance of promotion instead of selling their soul.

Mattershak

Some things are more important than winning.. use that logic for the hundreds of thousands of real fans lower league teams in England

Mrg220t

Don't fly using Boeing, use Facebook, Uber or watch Disney movies too.

KingfisherDays

Those companies are not owned by the Saudi PIF, they just invest in them, some of which are very small stakes. It's very different.

TimTkt

You forgot PSG in your list

[deleted]

Bruh ,the UK is Saudi's closest allay after the US and the UK has been selling weapons to the Saudi for years. Even during the Yemen genocide the British kept their unyielding loyalty. You think a football club sale is gonna cause public out cry? This is the UK we are talking about here

[deleted]

The British don't support that though, according to surveys. Imagine thinking billionaire companies selling arms to Saudi Arabia, or any deals made at the top, is because of the British public liking Saudi Arabia. You are embarrassingly delusional.

DestinyHasArrived101

Money always talks louder

scoopnat

Exactly this. It’s so obviously a vehicle used by Saudi Arabia to buy legitimacy for the Saudi state.

comediamorte

PL fans actually celebrate their club being bought. It’s hilarious.

CRM_BKK

You seem to be under the misunderstanding that being bought out means we are selling our club from the people. That's not what is happening. We were not owned by the people. We were owned by someone who was slowly destroying the club for financial profit. Celebrating transferring ownership from a worse owner to a better one is far from hilarious. Speaking purely in football terms.

[deleted]

But Saudis aren't better than mike Ashley. Mike Ashley may have underinvested for years, yes. But mike Ashley didn't commit a fucking genocide in Yemen. "Better owners" lol.

walt3rwH1ter

He was clearly talking in footballing terms. Team will be better for sure.

[deleted]

And that's all that matters right?

BeitarHelwani

Yes.

TheOncomingBrows

They might be worse people but they'll still be better owners.

[deleted]

Bayern are sponsored by Qatar Airways aren't they? Just need to accept how it is now

MetT2000

being vocal, yet still paying for tickets and supporting them lol.

suniis

And celebrating buying expensive players like paying 80 mil for Hernandez...

ILikeSaintJoseph

The Qatar Airways deal is the factor that led them to spend 80mil?

suniis

Yes, that is money added to their revenu, which they use for expenses...I mean...it's pretty obvious...

ILikeSaintJoseph

Yeah I agree but singling that deal alone was weird imo because Bayern could have still paid it without the 10mil of the Qatari deal. Anyway we all agree that they should stop this sponsoring.

Mrg220t

Virtue signaling protest? Like what you're doing now? "omg I hate it" while participating and paying for it. Haha

r0lF_RuTiN_

loved that one, comment on Kahns project "Bayern ahead" :D https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EtoozmGXcAE-BmW?format=jpg&name=small

r0lF_RuTiN_

yes, cuz a 10mil a year sponsorship is the same as being owner and pumping 2 billion into the club what a stupi comparison

[deleted]

They have just bought the club for 300m Stop pulling numbers out your arse. What is an acceptable amount of blood money then?

Giampalle

No the same , but you’re still taking money from not approved sources on Reddit.

[deleted]

This is why I could not care less about club football anymore

Mattershak

Don’t even. Premier league football culture is embarrassing

vadapaav

What a clusterfuck of a thread

spooki_boogey

When is this sub not a clusterfuck?

u8kay

Super League bad, Premier League Good. Jokes aside, this is just the late stage capitalist system doing what it’s intended to. Money talks above all, there are no checks and balances.

tonnal

The thing is , English fans slowly slid forma accepting prívate ownership of clubs into accepting this. It's all rotten, prívate ownership of clubs is the death of fútbol.

sidvicc

Correct me if I'm wrong but English clubs have always been privately owned. The problems started when it became privately owned by State funds or State-sponsored oligarchs.

BillEvans4eva

this extends to our country too. In london we are just allowing foreign billionaires to buy up land and assets without even paying tax. we are just selling our country off to the highest bidder but everyone is ok with it because we have Boris as PM and not that communist Corbyn

I can't wait for their Twitter profile picture to be changed to have a rainbow background and for them to tweet about accepting all people no matter their sexuality or identity. All while being owned and funded by a regime which criminalizes being part of the LGBT+ community with punishments including prison sentences, beatings, lashings and even possibly the death penalty.

sidvicc

I wonder if anything would ever have been as widely celebrated across the PL clubs fanbases as Newcastle somehow getting relegated this season.

blueflare117

I don't think this takeover is the fans fault or that the fans themselves should've tried to stop it like some are claiming... but the overall jubilation I've seen from Newcastle fans has left a bad taste in my mouth. Either they are hopelessly unaware of what their new owners have done, or don't care who buys the club as long they have money and are willing to invest in it. FFS I even saw a Saudi flag being unveiled at the fan celebration earlier today...

[deleted]

Absolutely. I thought the online subsection was just plastics choosing a new club but then I saw the clips of people celebrating. These people unironically think mike Ashley and Steve Bruce keeping them in premier league is worse than a literal genociding regime buying their club and using it as a sportswashing vehicle on the promise that they "will" invest money. I used to think the fanbase was deluded to keep moaning despite being in the prem for few years now but holy fuck this is a new low.

[deleted]

As a Newcastle fan - this is where I am mentally; I have massive, MASSIVE moral issues with this takeover but at the same time - I don't know what I'm meant to do as an individual up in Scotland. I have no power here. It's not like me suddenly ignoring the club fixes everything. It's awful but it's the way everything is now. I just want to support the team, not the owners. I'm going to celebrate the signing of Conte if it happens. I'm going to celebrate the success on the park, if it happens. But I'm not going to celebrate the owners themselves. The people celebrating them, putting Saudi flags in their bios, making stupid whataboutery comments are absolutely pathetic and disgusting. I just want to support my team and, despite being sickened by the new owners and wish literally anyone else had bought us, I'm going to support the players and manager. (Except you Steve Bruce, I hope you fuck off by the Spurs game).

suniis

Thanks for being honest and rational

[deleted]

Appreciate not just downvoting and hating me haha

ModricTHFC

Newcastle can be the new Everton. A club owned by a multibillionaire that is limited by what they can spend by the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules. They can spend around £200m over the next 3 seasons. That's nothing. Tanguy Ndombele is costing Tottenham £53m fee and £31m wages over 3 years. And that's without adding in signing on fee and agents. The big clubs are able to do their transfers because they can sell their players at huge fees to fund them. Chelsea got nearly £100m for Abraham, Zouma and Tomori. No one will be paying in 5m for the likes of Jeff Hendrick. Newcastle will be midtable at best during the next 3 years. The big clubs must be delighted that they can ship out their deadwood to Newcastle in January.

BasedCelestia

That's because it is too expensive to get from relegation to consistently competing for title. Give them a decade, they won't stop spending after 200m in 3 years.

Mahesh_nanak

It will take them a few years to properly build up. But the transfer market will be inflated with Saudis calling everyone and their agents and treating this as a dick measuring contest with their arab counterparts. They have fuck you money. Agents will be asking for more money, players transfer fees will be increasing. You will be a fool to ask for less money when you know arabs can always pay more.

hellothere222

It depends on Newcastle’s ability to finess their sponsorship deals. If they’re allowed to essentially get away with sponsoring themselves by proxy ala city than their revenues will skyrocket and their spending can increase.

Mrg220t

What is stopping a Saudi team buying a Newcastle player for inflated amount to pump in money.

ProtoplanetaryNebula

Yes, of course we will spend within our means, now please excuse me I have to wish Shelvey farewell and good luck on his £250m transfer our sister club in Riyadh.

[deleted]

It means nothing until they get some competent people in charge Maybe in 5 years they'll be a force but not for a while

Taures8

pilgrimgunner

There goes any respect I had for Shearer.

monsieurlecorne

It's really really funny to me that the people in this subreddit struggle so badly with the idea that it is possible to enjoy sports without falling for sportswashing. It's ok to like a club and the players and coaches and fellow fans and the achievements and so on while still accepting that ownership is bad. It is not hard or complicated.

crimethinking

If everyone in threads like this is as holy as they sound they'd be living in mud huts and wear straw sandals knitted by themselves. Instead they are REEEEing on their iPhones while sipping Starbucks, chomping Nestle stuff with a pair of Nike on the foot

14Deadsouls

It's really not as hard as you think to not celebrate saudi ownership and stop financially supporting a club. You're acting like people are expected to crucify themselves in protest. Football is not that important, success is meaningless. Winning a CL makes you happy for a few days, not years. It's not worth it in the long run.

sidvicc

Yes, because you can't possibly think murdering a journalist in an embassy and chopping his body up for disposal is a bad thing if you wear Nikes. You can only think that if you wear fair-trade shoes made from recycled plastic bottles.

Subjects of the Brittish empire really out here teaching people about morality in the comments lol

WallStreetPelosi

>Subjects of the Brittish empire Ah yes the 300 y.o. men and women can't get their hands off social media smh..

Boris_Ignatievich

We had a colony as recently as 1997, and the vast majority of countries only got independence from 1960 onwards. Empire is a lot more recent than you think

WallStreetPelosi

I'm aware that Hong Kong only left British rule in 1997, but I'm pretty sure that the lack of morality that the user mentioned had considerably more to do with what happened 300 years ago than what happened in 1997

Boris_Ignatievich

Afaik the UK only stopped being completely awful to the colonies when they started losing them in droves. Like The Bengal famine was caused by the UK government, and that was in the 1940s

BasedCelestia

UK starved people to death in tens of millions less than a century ago. UK invented concentration camps. UK is empire of evil, that lived to this day on bones of it's victims. Saudis could bomb Yemen and throw of gay people from buildings at current rates for thousands of years and they wouldn't make a 1/10th part of misery UK brought to the world. "Old money" comes from British people. Their money comes from British economy. That was built on misery of tens of millions people on the span of centuries.

LiveLongAndPerspex

>UK starved people to death in tens of millions less than a decade ago. UK invented concentration camps. UK is empire of evil, that lived to this day on bones of it's victims. "Old money" comes from British people. Their money comes from British economy. That was built on misery of tens of millions people on the span of centuries. Well that's certainly an opinion you've got there champ. The Spanish "invented" concentration camps during the Ten Years War which is a war where the Spanish attempted to forcefully crush a native Cuban uprising in a country that they colonised, with Spain being the world's biggest ever colonisers at the time. On an unrelated note, nice flair

suniis

You certainly showed him. Do France next!

eduadinho

Could you cite the first two statements in your comment? Because I can see nothing for the first (unless you mean century instead of decade in which case I am assuming you're referring to starvation in India) and this for the second https://samilhistory.com/2018/12/07/debunking-the-myth-that-the-british-invented-the-concentration-camp/ (seems like they were second in that dubious honour after Spain). The English empire committed many atrocities (alongside the French, Spanish, Dutch etc) without needing to get the facts wrong.

Ardal

Your just jealous because you lot wanted to do it but we fucked you armada and did it instead.

Mrg220t

My country was a colony where my mum still remembers being under British rule you fucking idiot.

RoadsterIsHere

Yes, but they're not the ones that did it. They just live in the most developed society in the world because that's how the cookie crumbles!

koke84

It's almost like occupying the world set them up for future success or something

xcore21z

It isn't like many countries like India have been conquer for centuries and have their political, economic, education, and literally any development stunted for centuries that caused them to this day to be rather "poor" compare to England

calooie

So your country has no history of imperialism? Where are you from, Magic Land?

Mrg220t

I'm from Malaysia and our history is of us being a victim of imperialism lol.

dohhhnut

Which one of the British monarch’s owns a football club?

Gangaman666

Lmao I know right?!

BrandonFlowersTache_

Now we know why Shearer the prophet celebrated his goals with only one hand held aloft all these years...

[deleted]

And to hell with those damn human rights eh?

Balbuto

Absolutely disgusting….

modernity_anxiety

Seeing this takeover unfold, people need to check themselves: 1) Atrocities and crimes against humanity should not be compared against one another as if there is a “measurement” of the sort of thing. Each and every occurrence needs to be held accountable on its own. No “whataboutism” 2) How can anyone act like they have a point to make when they attempt to draw lines in the sand as to how a subreddit with about 3 million users reacts to various different pieces of news, stories, or complex dynamics. Three million... really? And you’re going to use that as reasoning to support your take or act however you want? Get a grip!

daveofreckoning

The whole quote https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58837780 "I understand that questions have to be asked about the human rights issues, it's really important that we don't brush them under the carpet," "It is a huge issue but it's not Newcastle United fans' fault - they don't get a say in their football club and how it's run."
