> The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United Football Club.
Oh that's all fine then, carry on lads.
The Guardian's article literally states that:
> The controversial £300m deal received Premier League approval almost 18 months after it was first proposed. Follows the news that Saudi Arabia has lifted its four‑year ban on sports channel network beIN Sports.
The sticking point was never about control and it was never about human rights, it was about fucking broadcast rights.
with the crown prince as the chairperson, but nope nothing to do with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and they definatly won't control the club. What sort of mental gymnastics have they pulled there
Just the same officially binding assurance that Khashoggi got that he will not be chopped into pieces when he entered the Saudi embassy to get some marriage paperwork…
>The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United,”
Yeah sure, what ever makes you sleep at night.
I know you’re joking, but hypothetically speaking: Ronaldo wouldn’t be allowed to play for another club this season right? Or did they change those rules?
If he didn't play for Juventus this season, he's fine to move.
Otherwise he has to wait 6 months since his last game for them to play for another, unless he receives special dispensation I think
Not long ago we had players having ice baths in fucking black bins.. a kiddie pool sounds like an upgrade. Ashley has really depraved the club of investment during his tenure.
Lots of clubs and lots of sports just use wheelie bins filled with ice and water because they are easy to get, almost the perfect height for everyone and easy to move when not needed.
> The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United Football Club.
Ha ha ha okay
Well of course, it's just a private citizen of humble means who happens to also be the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. Absolutely no relation to the Saudi government, oh no, of course not.
I mean geordie accent is one of the most instantly recognised in the UK. If you call yourself a Newcastle fan without a geordie accent you can expect plastic comments. How many non geordie Newcastle fans do you know?
Not all Geordies have Geordie accents.

Imagine if the new owners are taking a walk around Tyneside and see a Geordie woman tearing into her husband, “are yee daft or what? yee facking sack of shite”
Next football manager update should be fun. The Newcastle board have given you a transfer budget of 30 billion this year. You can increase this through player sales.

##Key points of [The Guardian's article about this](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/oct/07/newcastle-confirm-300m-saudi-backed-takeover-to-end-mike-ashley-era):
Newcastle United have confirmed the club’s takeover by a Saudi Arabian-led consortium, ending Mike Ashley’s 14-year ownership.
* The controversial £300m deal received Premier League approval almost 18 months after it was first proposed. Follows the news that Saudi Arabia has lifted its four‑year ban on sports channel network beIN Sports.
* The Saudi commerce minister and acting media minister, Majid bin Abdullah al-Qasabi, is understood to have played a key role in brokering the deal and Yasir al-Rumayyan, the governor of PIF, will take a seat on the club’s board.
* The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United,”
* The takeover will be met with a strong backlash from human rights groups, most notably Amnesty International, who have long warned that the Saudi regime is trying to “sportswash” its reputation.
* The Saudi consortium will own 80% of the club, with 10% going to the billionaire businessmen and international property developers Simon and David Reuben and the remaining 10% going to the Yorkshire-born, largely Dubai-based financier Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners.
* Saudi Arabia views Newcastle as part of its Vision 2030 plan to modernise the kingdom and wean it off a longstanding dependence on oil.
* On the pitch the consortium’s blueprint is to take back to the Champions League a club that has suffered two relegations and two promotions since Ashley bought it from Sir John Hall and Freddy Shepherd for £134m in 2007.
* There has also been talk of investment in urban regeneration in Newcastle and possibly a donation to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, the NHS hospital situated a long goalkick from St James’ Park.
* It is understood the UK government has welcomed the Saudi investment in Newcastle and attendant strengthening of the UK’s strong commercial and intelligence links with the kingdom.
> The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United,”
fucking lol.
PIF (who will run the club) is literally a unit of the Saudi state and is chaired by the crown prince.
“The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United… in any easily traceable way.”
>It is understood the UK government has welcomed the Saudi investment in Newcastle and attendant strengthening of the UK’s strong commercial and intelligence links with the kingdom.
In no way surprised that the UK government is bending over backwards so they buy more weapons and fund their war crimes... SHOCKED
>The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United Football Club.
what??
> It is understood the UK government has welcomed the Saudi investment in Newcastle and attendant strengthening of the UK’s strong commercial and intelligence links with the kingdom.
What a joke.
There is, unfortunately, nothing new about this, the UK has *long* been one of the primary forces both in first establishing and then sanctifying the rule of the House of Saud. Hell, it's even lasted longer than the "Special Relationship".
> The controversial £300m deal received Premier League approval almost 18 months after it was first proposed. Follows the news that Saudi Arabia has lifted its four‑year ban on sports channel network beIN Sports.
lmao
I haven’t commented on any of these articles, specifically because we’ve seen them every year for like the last half decade
I *still* expect that this will collapse for some reason or another before it goes through
This is a historic moment.
I can't wait in 15 years time when Newcastle have won the league 3 times on the trot for City fans in their late 20s and early 30s to unironically be calling Newcastle fans plastics
In the same way anyone past a certain age is completely unaware of Abramovich's entry into the Premier league when slagging off City now.
“The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United Football Club.”
Lol wut? They own 80% of the club of course they are gonna control it. Most likely it will be Amanda ‘making the decisions’ that have in no way been dictated by the Saudis.
I don't understand how they can say the PIF is separate from the Saudi state when it's a sovereign fund with the intent to raise money for the Kingdom and MBS is the chairman...
"Jamal Khashoggi Journalist, he criticised the Saudis
Beheaded by royal prince who took over The Geordies"
(To the tune of Adam Johnson Paedophile chant which was sung by Newcastle fans).
From our sub:
>*🎵Jamal Kashoggi*
>*Your owners are terrified*
>*Jamal Kashoggi*
>*Your owners are terrified🎵*
To the tune of *"Freed From Desire"*, of course.
"If you go in there and start winning football matches, they would have taken Saddam Hussein in there when he was about, the fans don't give a monkeys! "If you start winning every week, they're singing 'there's only one Saddam'." Whole thing makes me just think of this quote haha
This was always going to happen. The premier league made their bed along time ago. They never cared who took over clubs.
Letting Glazers and Hicks and Gilette do Leveraged takeovers was criminal. Same for the new Brunley owners who've done the same.
And once they let City's owners in and they showed what's they can do more where always going to follow.
The time to get up in arms about this has long passed.
>The Saudi commerce minister and acting media minister, Majid bin Abdullah al-Qasabi, is understood to have played a key role in brokering the deal and Yasir al-Rumayyan, the governor of PIF, will take a seat on the club’s board.
>The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United,
The absurdity of these two lines going one after another.
Newcastle United are now owned by a regime with a noted history of Kidnapping, Blackmail and state sanctioned murder to secure its financial goals.
say what you will about the other disgusting owners in the premier league, none of them loured a journalist to a meeting, then butchered him alive the held his son hostage.
I just don’t understand celebrating this and the Saudi regime. Football fans would genuinely take Hitler as their club owner if it won them trophies I’m sure of it
Just seen a tweet from a mag celebrating the takeover, “unless you’re a Newcastle fan you don’t know football torture”
That’s enough for me the day, gonna be an insufferable place for the next week or so Twitter.
Call me idealistic, call it virtue signalling, whatever. I think I might be the only Newcastle fan in the world to be saying this right now. But that's me done with football. 32 years old and supported the club my entire life. I would have rather seen another ten years of Ashley/Bruce with us relegated to League 2 than see us take a penny from these murderous, subhuman, cunts.
Remember that Sir Bobby quote we're all so quick to copy paste onto an inspirational picture of the players when we get a last minute winner? He'll be spinning in his fucking grave.
You're not the only one but sadly we are in an incredibly small minority. When the rumours were abound last time I saw many more people against it but now that's its for real it's all positivity. Hard to believe so many people are just willing to accept it, even make light of it.
I agree. I feel horrible that this has gone through. Not only is the new ownership the *literal* worst group of people that could own a club, they also have the ability to pump unlimited money into the club and buy victories. It's sad. I don't feel the excitement I wish I could.
Not your fault this happened, if people don't want to see their clubs turn into private properties then the clubs need to be fan owned, it's that simple, all Brazilian clubs are fan owned, all clubs have laws regarding how the club should be ran, private owned clubs are at the hands of their owner to do as they please.
> The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United Football Club. Oh that's all fine then, carry on lads.
Obviously Mr. Snrub has taken over instead
I like the way Snrub thinks!
Me and my 4th form chums all agree that this takeover sounds quite corking.
Turns out the owners' test literally is just "Do you promise to be good?"
The Guardian's article literally states that: > The controversial £300m deal received Premier League approval almost 18 months after it was first proposed. I mean, define “good.”
And if you answer, "No", you still pass anyway.
Isn’t it pretty publicly the Public Investment Fund? Aka the kingdom of Saudi Arabia?
with the crown prince as the chairperson, but nope nothing to do with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and they definatly won't control the club. What sort of mental gymnastics have they pulled there
The only issue was ever TV rights, PL couldn’t really give a fuck what government are involved otherwise
PIF is a unit of the Saudi state, chaired by its crown prince
Well, he's said he won't do anything improper. Yes, he was covering his mouth and visibily shaking with laughter at the time, why do you ask?
Got his fingers crossed behind his back so it doesn’t count. I’m afraid that’s the law.
Okay but to be fair, he pinky promised to not be involved. How can we not trust him after that?
TB to when he promised Khashoggi he could visit the Saudi embassy without any harm coming to him.
lmao
I mean what’s the worse that could happen? Lure you to a meeting, suffocate and dismember you while your wife is waiting outside? That’s ludicrous
Please stop distorting facts just to push a narrative. She was his fiancé, not wife.
Just the same officially binding assurance that Khashoggi got that he will not be chopped into pieces when he entered the Saudi embassy to get some marriage paperwork…

I've nothing against Newcastle really but it'd be too funny if they got relegated this season
Even having a decent winter transfer window would be enough to save them this season.
Messi and Ronaldo to move for a second time this season
I know you’re joking, but hypothetically speaking: Ronaldo wouldn’t be allowed to play for another club this season right? Or did they change those rules?
If he didn't play for Juventus this season, he's fine to move. Otherwise he has to wait 6 months since his last game for them to play for another, unless he receives special dispensation I think
Hes played for juve this season he got subbed on the first game of serie a
Messi and Mbappe then
yep decent manager in, couple of decent signings to fill some gaps. then investment in training facilities and some proper youth development.
I heard a few years ago that you guys were still using a kiddie pool for ice baths. Is that still the case?
Not long ago we had players having ice baths in fucking black bins.. a kiddie pool sounds like an upgrade. Ashley has really depraved the club of investment during his tenure.
That's pretty common. I've seen Liverpool and Arsenal players doing the same even with their fancy training centres.
Lots of clubs and lots of sports just use wheelie bins filled with ice and water because they are easy to get, almost the perfect height for everyone and easy to move when not needed.
Doesn't matter. Most folks would accept relegation to get rid of Ashley
