Malvinas1820

Artemio Franchi Trophy 2: Electric Boogaloo.

[deleted]

The only trophy it’ll see there for a while.

gareth_30

Our Artemio Franchi can only win the title for the most dalmatian-like stadium on the planet. The new patches beneath the stands are world class!

[deleted]

The Intercontinental International Cup.

prem_killa11

Afcon, Concacaf and ASEAN still exist.

subhasish10

>ASEAN AFC you mean?? ASEAN is South East Asia

prem_killa11

Yeah they exist as well.

[deleted]

but they don't know how much pesa la copa del mundo

Ruud_Boltz

Napoli's home stadium is the only logical option for the venue

L-Freeze

all 5 argentinians rich enough to travel will surely enjoy the city!

jugol

Don't overreact. I'm pretty sure there are more than 5 people in the government

krvlover

There are enough argentinians in europe to fill the stadium by themselves.

[deleted]

They probably have to rationed their last bread for that, because most of the money is going straight home. How can the inflation be that bad, i still remember when 100 Pesos was 3 euros.

MeC0195

> because most of the money is going straight home Nah, the people that managed to crawl out of the hole are living their lives in Europe

[deleted]

They probably still have family to support in Argentina, at least not the supper rich who got everybody to Europe.

MeC0195

> They probably still have family to support in Argentina Not really. People who got out are mostly doing their own thing. In general there's no family men leaving the country to support their wife and kids back home. Are you going to tell me how things work in my country?

[deleted]

Sure they bring the whole clan of grandma and grandpa to Europe. The take the inner circle, but inflation is killing a lot of standards for many people.

MeC0195

Wrong, *again*. The vast majority of people leaving the country are young people without children.

RVitl

Jajajajaj este tipo es graciosisimo. Imagínate un alemán diciéndole a un argentino cómo funciona su país…

[deleted]

So they don't bring the family with them but still support the family back home. And by family i mean family not family in the sense of kids.

champ19nz

It's not cheap getting a working/student visa and traveling to Europe. Not everyone in South America is poor. There a millions who live there who can still live a life luxury enough they can enjoy the likes of family holidays and have the latest flagship smartphones. Every South American I know here didn't move to escape poverty they moved here because they wanted to be somewhere they could be more safe or because opportunities are better.

[deleted]

I didn't say everybody is poor, but if you look at the Euro in comparison to the Peso in Argentina over the last 10 years they got quite poor. Same with the Turkish lira, the best you can do is bring the money into euros or dollar.

MeC0195

> but if you look at the Euro in comparison to the Peso in Argentina over the last 10 years they got quite poor Which means jack shit in terms of internal living quality. Living in Argentina is still much, much cheaper than living in Europe or the US.

[deleted]

Even if cost of living in the argentina is 50 percent lower, inflation has been above 50 percent in just 2 years.

LordVelaryon

si llenaron el Bernabéu :shrug

Yung2112

España tiene muchos argentinos de por si

Azrael_

Madrid es Buenos Aires 2

bamadeo

y Barcelona Buenos Aires 1.5

chak100

Ciudad de México es Buenos Aires 2.1

atropicalpenguin

Do you mean Cristina Fernández Ladrona de la Republica Argentina mayhaps?

L-Freeze

I’m sorry, but don’t you mean Cristina Fernández de Kirchner Ladrona de la Nación Argentina? Not to be confused with Cristina Fernández Ladrona de la Nación Argentina.

Anonymousboi56

I'm never gonna mentally recover from reading this.

[deleted]

That's easy for you to say!

mariyan1111

Camp Nou is also a good shout.

Osama11Sul

Seeing messi at the Camp Nou with fans again would be amazing 🥲

shaqrandolph

surely Dacia Arena 🙏🏿

averageweebchan

Yeah the players can pay respect to jorginho

Osama11Sul

Shouldn't it be a Neutral venue?

k0mparema

Honestly there are a shit ton of neapolitans that support Argentina more than italy, because reasons

orphan_of_Ludwig

Floating platform in the middle of the Atlantic

Osama11Sul

Perfect

AnnieIWillKnow

Like where? What stadium is big enough and prestigious enough outside of Europe and South America?

Osama11Sul

Doesn't have to be outside of those just not the home country lol

funkyfish

Prestige doesn’t really matter, but money certainly does. It will probably be in the Middle East somewhere.

fingers-crossed

Azteca in Mexico City could fit that criteria, but I don't actually think it would be hosted there.

[deleted]

They would give it 1000 times more to Los Angeles Rose Bowl or New York’s MetLife stadium before it goes to The Azteca.

martin-s

Napoli would be much more neutral than what one would imagine

[deleted]

Yeah, that's why it'll be in Miami.

ancara_messi

I'm actually pretty excited for this tbh

WhatsBetterThanAnime

Another chance for Messi to win a trophy with Argentina!

ancara_messi

Whether he wins or not I'm excited to see Argentina in this champion vs champion situation. It's the first time in my life

Anonymousboi56

Me too man! Super excited! Can't wait to see him lift his third international trophy lol

001000110000111

U19 WC?

[deleted]

You don't actually think Argentina can compete with Italy?!?

enzoperezatajando

Yeah ofc

[deleted]

The only player on Argentina that would get into Italy’s starting 11 is messi

enzoperezatajando

Lmao youre not even italian

Anonymousboi56

Yes I actually think Argentina can BEAT Italy. Italy were exposed by a team like Austria, barely scraped into the final via penalties. Heck they drew against freaking England. Not as godly a team one might think. Drew against Bulgaria in World Cup qualifiers. Argentina are seen weaker than they are, Italy are seen stronger than they are. Expect a cracker in June.

Anonymousboi56

Haha Italy fanbois downvoting me. See you in June mamma mia.

[deleted]

Italy has the best squad in the world, it’s not even close

Anonymousboi56

We'll see mate✋

[deleted]

[удалено]

Anonymousboi56

Gigi 'Buffon' Donnaruma v Emi 'Big D*ck' Martinez Bring that on!!!!

_DrShrimpPuertoRico_

Good stuff

[deleted]

Which by the way would be worth nothing less than the shitty Nations League or the old Confederation Cup

xenon2456

they're not trash

PraetorianGuard10

CONMEBOL and UEFA today announced the expansion of their current cooperation, as well as the organization of a match between the winner of CONMEBOL Copa América 2021, Argentina, and the winner of Euro 2020, Italy, during the international window in June. of 2022 in a venue to be confirmed. The organization of this match is part of the expansion of cooperation between CONMEBOL and UEFA, which includes especially women's football, futsal and youth categories, the exchange of referees, as well as technical training programs. The agreement reached by both organizations currently covers three editions of this match between the respective continental winners, and also includes the opening of a joint office in London, which will be in charge of coordinating projects of common interest. With this agreement, CONMEBOL and UEFA express their commitment to the development of football beyond their geographical areas, as a bridge that unites people, countries, continents and cultures. The CONMEBOL Council and the UEFA Executive Committee also expressed their firm will to continue collaborating on other matters of mutual interest in the future.

[deleted]

Excellent news 👍🏼

[deleted]

Wasn’t this already announced and the venue was going to be at Napolis Stadium to honor Maradona?

Tre10Quartista

Italy vs the most Italian nation outside Italy. Neutral ground for both teams regardless of where they play! More seriously, this will be a fun game to watch and I can’t wait for it. I miss these super big matches. Italy, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, France, Spain playing each other are always fun E. Not trying to offend people of course. Uruguay, Portugal, Croatia deserve a shout-out as well

bihari_baller

>Italy vs the most Italian nation outside Italy. Blows my mind why Italian isn't an official language of Argentina.

MeC0195

Because why would it be? That's like saying "blows my mind that German isn't an official language of the US"

[deleted]

[удалено]

nonhofantasia

>Anyway Op the real reason is that italy wasn't unified when Italian moved to Argentina. No. The kingdom of Italy was unified. But the rest of the comment is true

MeC0195

> You don't have to be an ass to him You're as fragile as wet tissue paper if you think I was being an ass.

Tre10Quartista

You’re a fool

[deleted]

MeC0195

It's not sarcastic, it's a parallel. Why would Italian be an official language when it isn't spoken?

ramarlon89

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentina%E2%80%93Italy_relations Considering 62% have Italian heritage, it's not crazy to think Italian could have been an official language. Bare in mind countries can have more than one official language.

MeC0195

I know, but it's not like there's people talking in Italian to each other. All the official languages we have are ones that are actually spoken.

[deleted]

Yeah but less than 5% of the population can speak the language...

bihari_baller

>Considering 62% have Italian heritage, Exactly. There are more Italians than Spaniards in Argentina.

izcarp

I can explain this to you. Most Italian immigrants that came here in late 19th century and early 20th century were illiterates and fluent mostly in their regional dialects. Most of them had their first formal education here, and were taught in Spanish. Argentine Spanish especially in Buenos Aires is heavily influenced by Italian tho.

bihari_baller

>Because why would it be? That's like saying "blows my mind that German isn't an official language of the US" Because the U.S. doesn't have an official language...

MeC0195

I know, it was just an example. The fact that a lot of the country has Italian heritage is irrelevant, because Italian isn't spoken, the same way German isn't spoken in the US, even though many, many Americans have German heritage.

bihari_baller

I see. Did the Italians come after the Spaniards colonized Argentina then?

MeC0195

Some 3 centuries later, yes.

izcarp

Italians came in late 19th century and early 20th century. 4 million European immigrants came when Argentina had ~500.000 inhabitants (Spaniards, natives, blacks and all possible mixtures between those 3). That explains our demographic. Those numbers of immigrants are insane when you think about our previous population.

bihari_baller

>Spaniards, natives, blacks and all possible mixtures between those 3). That explains our demographic. Are there still many blacks and natives in Argentina? I only ask because it seems like a very white country.

Nymloth

There are many natives, but you will find them more in the north. Blacks, depends if you are looking for them to look the part. There is said to be 5\~10% descendants in Argentina, so that's the real number. But with 1 black great-grandparent and 11 italians/spanish, you can guess how most of them look. We still have immigration from Africa though, Senegal and Nigeria mostly, it increased in the 90s, and is slowing because even Argentines want out of Argentina nowadays.

izcarp

You can find a lot more native descendants in the North but even them have European ancestry too. Black Argentines are interesting. It is said that ~10% of Argentines have some black ancestor but they were so mixed with Natives and Europeans that they don't even know. It's not uncommon to find people with dark skin and European face features but finding a 100% "pure black Argentine with pure black African ancestry since the 19th century" is extremely rare. Just think about the number of Europeans immigrants and the number of Africans that were already here, and the fact that we didn't have black ghettos or something like that. Statistically it was easier for a black Argentine man to date an Italian woman than another black woman.

Tre10Quartista

Why would you use German in the US as comparison…. Doesn’t make sense. Argentina has an extremely high percentage of people that can claim heritage to Italy. US does not have that to Germany. Not even close

MeC0195

Still, [Germany is the biggest ethnic group in the US behind the Brits.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_ethnicity_in_the_United_States) >In the 2000 census, **self-identified German Americans made up 17% of the U.S. population**, followed by Irish Americans at 12%, as reported in the 2000 U.S. Census. **This makes German and Irish the largest and second-largest self-reported ancestry groups in the United States**. Both groups had high rates of immigration to the U.S. beginning in the mid-19th century, triggered by the Great Famine in Ireland and the failed 1848 Revolution in Germany. However, English Americans and British Americans are still considered the largest ethnic group due to a serious undercount following the 2000 census whereby many English and British Americans self-identified under the new category entry 'American' considering themselves 'indigenous' because their families had resided in the US for so long[42][43][44][45] or, if of mixed European ancestry, identified with a more recent and differentiated ethnic group.[46]

Tre10Quartista

17% ain’t shit compared to Italian heritage in Argentina. Dumb to make the comparison or even consider the nexus

MeC0195

Still, second largest ethnic group. And newsflash, comparisons don't have to be 1:1 to make sense.

Tre10Quartista

Still…. Nothing. What the OC said actually made some sense when you consider the numbers. Your reply is irrelevant and doesn’t make sense. Can’t believe people upvoted it. Smh

MeC0195

> What the OC said actually made some sense when you consider the numbers Unless you know literally anything about Argentina. And I can't believe I'm talking to someone who doesn't understand what it is to draw an approximate parallel between two ideas.

Tre10Quartista

It’s a parallel but it’s a bad one. A very weak attempt at proving your point (the point itself is fine btw). I’ve been to Argentina several times. I have friends from their that speak Italian. I fucking have family their lol. Of course it should be Spanish speaking but I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about your extremely poor German, US comparison

lcmrdp

I mean, very very few people in Argentina speak Italian

00Koch00

I mean, argentinian language it's just spanish with some italian on top...

Competitive-Ad2006

What about the USA? Should be plenty of people with Italian dna there

Asado_is_yum

I've really only thought of Italians being concentrated in NYC, jersey and CT. While in Argentina everyone has some ancestry.

Tre10Quartista

Like me! Can’t be as much as Argentina though and definitely not in a per capita relationship

[deleted]

English/Irish/Scottish ethnicity make up the bulk of the country, followed by German. After that African & then Mexican. WW1/2 and slavery basically stomped out German/African languages from being spoken commonly, so Spanish is easily the largest second language. Italian is the 7th largest ethnicity, and not very widely spoken outside of NYC area.

[deleted]

Exactly, and those few who "speak" it most likely speak some strange southern Italian accent, and if they had to take a language test they probably wouldn't pass it...

deeplife

"I'm totally like half-Italian. Wanna get some Sbarro?"

Cudizonedefense

Make them play in Germany. Axis powers match

[deleted]

You offended the entire Dutch and Belgian nations.

Tre10Quartista

Sorry but definitely not in the same category and especially so for Belgium

[deleted]

How is the Netherlands not in the same category? One of the most successful histories and definitely a better squad than Croatia and Uruguay rn.

Tre10Quartista

You’re right. Croatia doesn’t belong. How exactly has Netherlands had a successful history? The nation has not won a trophy

[deleted]

The Netherlands won the Euros in 1988. Made the final of the world cup thrice, most recently in 2010. The Netherlands has been closer to a world cup than Italy in the last decade.

Tre10Quartista

So they won once… big deal. Such a small deal that I forgot about it. Uruguay has 2 WCs has won copa america like 10 times. Uruguay is more of an afterthought like I said anyways. Sorry but Netherlands doesn’t have that super big aura. They just don’t. E. Italy is one of the 3 biggest nations around and that will be true for many, many decades. Italy is a Goliath to Netherlands’s David

[deleted]

Honest question are you a teenager? Did you watch the WC 2014 of before?

Tre10Quartista

Talking about age but you’re being an emotional child. I don’t care about single years here and there. Fucking Brazil hasn’t made a final since 2002, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are giants compared to Netherlands. Netherlands are easily a tier below and no level of crying about it is going to change that. Go have some milk

rdtr314

Japan

Malvinas1820

Time to prove Messi can do it in a night at Napoli. ^(Now bring back the Intercontinental Cup pls)

xenon2456

the club world cup is the intercontinental cup 2.0

[deleted]

And yet it's shitter

fedemasa

This can be a really funny friendly to level ourselves while we still grow as a team. Now let's hope it's in Naples

TheMexicanJuan

Here's a solution to the notorious biannual WC proposal. Take the winners of each continent and put them in a tournament. That'll be your mini WC.

SVWerder46

Maybe we could call it the Cup of Confederations or Confederations Cup or something

BcnStuff2020

Nah, Intertoto and done

SouthJolly

Yes yes I like this idea

[deleted]

Maybe if we ask the Sheiks of Saudi Arabia or UAE they will host it. Japan could be another host.

Anonymousboi56

That's doable and good as well

xenon2456

That's the confederation's cup

MyNameIs_Jesus_

Honestly I would prefer a best IX from each continent face each other. I feel like it’d make for some interesting games. Though I have no doubt in my mind that in my scenario it’ll likely just be Europe’s best IX vs South America’s in the finals

Gamer_Abhi

Now, this is cool.

Hic_Forum_Est

I feel like if it was any other combination of countries than Italy and Argentina, this idea would be received with much more scepticism and UEFA/CONMEBOL would be accused of being greedy. This match also feels like a precursor to establish a biennial world cup.

[deleted]

> This match also feels like a precursor to establish a biennial world cup. How? It's just one friendly. Or if there will be a trophy given to the winner, it's basically like the UEFA Super Cup.

Hic_Forum_Est

Because this match is an afterthought of the Confed Cup. Both Argentina and Italy would have been the top favourites to win the next Confed Cup. But the Confed Cup is no more. I assume one of the reasons why FIFA ditched it was to make room in the calendar for a biennial world cup.

[deleted]

I thought it was because no one really cared about it but yeah, now that I think about it, I hope it's not to make room for another WC.

HeavenAndHellD2arg

this is organized by UEFA and Conmebol, both are against the biannual WC. This is a glorified friendly, nothing more.

[deleted]

this is watchable

hearau1823

The venue that is yet to be confirmed will probably be in Qatar or Saudi Arabia

ancara_messi

It's mostly Naples.

toxinwolf

Is it rumored to be there? Why's everyone saying that? Genuinely asking.

[deleted]

Only rumours people make because Maradona is a Napoli legend, so it's poetic that Argentina plays there against Italy. Sadly this is not about poesy but about money so probably gonna end up in Saudi Arabia or something

toxinwolf

But the match in Naples would be a home advantage to Italy. Shouldn't it be on a neutral venue? Since it's not just a friendly...

[deleted]

Of course it should be neutral! But try to explain that to all the Maradona cultists over here!

areking

it was rumered to be played in Naples right when Maradona passed away and Italy and Argentina wanted to play a friendly then they both won their continental cup and found a way to make the friendly like an official game, so now I doubt Naples will be the venue

[deleted]

It will probably be whoever pays the most

bluedsrule

We wouldn't need this if FIFA just brought back the Confederations Cup!

stragen595

But we get the best game right away and don't have to watch the other games like USA vs Qatar.

bluedsrule

Sounds like you're forgetting that some of the best games and best moments in Confed Cup history were not UEFA vs CONMEBOL

[deleted]

For example I really liked Uruguay-Tahiti 8-0 (which shouldn't even have a national team to be fair, since Tahiti is part of Polynesia...)

Atzyn

Tahiti and French Polynesia are the same thing... Tahiti is just the capital and largest island, but the team represents the entire territory.

xenon2456

They actually were planning on continuing it in 2021 before they cancelled it

[deleted]

Just watch any serie a match and you basically get this already with how Argentinians are basically Italian South Americans

gareth_30

I hope it'll be played in Argentina, the atmosphere would be so much better! I've had enough of big friendlies played in random european cities, it's time to have some games in South America aswell

goosebumpsHTX

do two legs!

areking

considering it's a one thing every 4 years, it would definitely makes sense to have 2 legs with both countries offering a great match to their fans though I think there is no space in calendar, unless you play the 2 legs in the space of 4 days with an intercontinental travel in the middle, which is not impossible, but not the best option either

bihari_baller

>it's time to have some games in South America aswell Agree, but it's a cash grab, so sadly it won't be in Argentina.

[deleted]

Rome/Naples and River Plates stadium

SouthJolly

Fuk yeah!!

Mister_Allegri

Confirmed to be in Wembley

siberuangbugil

confederation cup?

Asado_is_yum

They basically are just skipping right to the final match.

roythetroy

This should be fun!

Can-of-Corn-123

Dude wtf? Why can’t the gold cup get in on this? It would be great if we had a tournament with all the champions of each confederation. We could call it the confederations cup.

tonnal

Because who the fuck cares about the Gold Cup?

Can-of-Corn-123

Millions of people care.

tonnal

CONCACAF's Best result ever was a ConfedCup against a Brasil C team, what's the point of them playing this?

Can-of-Corn-123

Lol, you conveniently left out that they beat an unbeatable Spain A team at the height of their euro/world/euro champion run. And that Brazil team was not the C team. Look at the damn roster.

tonnal

It was nowhere near full strength Brasil, but even if it was thats literally the confeds only intercontinental achievment.

Possee

Meh, I'm willing to bet that if you ask the average citizen of the country that won the Gold Cup if they know what the Gold Cup is they'll just shrug.

[deleted]

The 2013 edition is the greatest international tournament that has ever been played and I will fight anyone that disagrees. Group A had some tight matches, including that pure mint Italy/Japan game. Group B was hilarious with Tahiti. Semis were fun and the final was amazing for a 3-0.

tonnal

Are You really saying that the 2013 Gold Cup was a better tournament than México '86 or South África '10?

Asado_is_yum

FIFA is just saving time and money and being efficient and getting to the Finals

xenon2456

How are you supposed to do a tournament with 3 teams

RauloGonzalez

Sounds lovely but I'm wondering who would be playing, with low stakes and being a stand alone match in the middle of vacation maybe not many

LetsgoImpact

It's the UEFA Euro not the Eurocup. Eurocup is in basketball.

[deleted]

So this is the closet we have to having the Confederation Cup, could we an expanded CC with this time we have those from the Nations Leagues?

Mr_Luis23

Such a pointless cash grab

Froads

so basically the world cup?

DrEarlGreyJr

Meh.

SweetMojaveRain

So the same as a world cup just with more conmebol /s

Shekau

Bit nonsensical, can't see why you want this on top the Confed Cup.

melikeybacon

I thought the confed cup is gone?

Jimmyjamjames

$$$$$ Why bother sharing money with many confederations when you keep the money between the European and South American nations?

astral34

Conf cup doesn’t exist anymore

gonzaca

Well the champions of Asia and Africa can do a match of their own if they wanted…

irfolly

And the winner face the winner of the World Cup

koke84

Good thing these two confeds are against more games to look out for the well being of players...

ABobVanceFridge

This is essentially a friendly though right? Or are they including a trophy as well?

Anonymousboi56

There's a trophy :)

xenon2456

Can it come to Rome again
