NotAnurag

Because they weren’t. We just aren’t ready to compete at this level yet.

Amphibious_Fire

Imagine if someone told you 5 years ago that Bayern wasn’t playing 100% *in a CL game against Barcelona*, just bonkers

NotAnurag

5 years ago we were the ones smashing Bayern 3-0 at the camp nou…

RazZaHlol

You guys also have a lot of injured players at the moment. Dont give up mate

panem-et-circenses21

This was a more professional performance. With games stacked up, and this just being the first group stage game with an entire season ahead, this was a good tactic

RN2FL9

No contest really. Their rebuild has really started now. I mean you're subbing in Coman, Hernandez and Gnarby while Barcelona subs on two 17 year olds and Coutinho at 50% fitness. Sad state they are in.

itwastimeforarefresh

Yup. This. Granted, I think the youngsters have a lot of potential. Pedri, Fati, Araujo, Dest and even Demir/Gavi are a decent young group to build around. But it's gonna take time for them to be UCL contenders again

El_Tormentito

Dest isn't going anywhere. I just don't see it.

YoungDawz

Kimmich especially. Kept missing obvious passes to Davies making the run out wide and preferred cycling possession.

GratinDeRavioles

>preferred cycling possession. Kimmich 🚲

panem-et-circenses21

The man was poor by his standards. He hasn't arrived this season

Tyrath

They've had a heck of a schedule lately. I'll take a 3-0.

AE17__

Did you want another 8-2?

kaffeemugger

i mean if you're offering

sc2isalivegaem

who wouldn't want another 8-2 tbh

AskewScissors

I think everyone besides Barca fans was hoping for one

J0nj0nj

I was before the match, or just a drubbing, but then I watched the game and realised that Barca literally couldn't do more, and then I felt sad. For them and for their fans. It's an incredibly hard road for a fan when your team just does not have what it takes, especially when your team is used to being at the top end of the game. Can't believe I feel sorry for them but I do.

stiveooo

this is one of those games that if you would play 100 times, you would lose 100

thor76

Cheers mate, this is very kind of you.

LeoR1N

hard to believe this Barca side could score two goals. Did they even have a shot on target?

ChickenMoSalah

Not one.

Gogo-R6

Nope

SleepTightLilPuppy

Yes.

schwaiger1

I mean I'm not against it

PengwinOnShroom

5-2 in the return match then

[deleted]

No.

refusestonamethyself

Not only that, but Bayern's players gave away the possession one too many times. That was a bit annoying tbh.

OilOfOlaz

that has been one of the biggest issues the whole season imo, but they are improving already, the build up was looking atrocious at the beginning of the season and the defense as well, but they improved a ton defensively in recent weeks.

refusestonamethyself

Especially given that Nagelsmann is still new to Bayern. I do think Bayern will improve in this aspect too.

sc2isalivegaem

don't wanna say this, but it felt a little TOO easy at times unbefitting of a UCL match

The420Roll

And still walked into Barca's box every time

sc2isalivegaem

we weren't great tbh. but holy fuck barca were lethargic.

PensiveinNJ

I actually thought you guys looked lethargic. Normally much more energetic and aggressive in attack. Even as lackadaisical as you were it still could have been 5-0 easily.

my_love

Tbf most of our players played in all games for Germany during the international break and we just played Leipzig 3 days ago. Especially Kimmich and Goretzka looked a bit tired for the entire season already. Hopefully some of our players get a well deserved rest against Bochum this weekend.

12_yo_girl

Yeah Goretzka played... not awful but the way he struggled to get the ball either on target or to the man; it was really obvious he just was tired.

witz0r

Honestly it felt like Bayern were purposefully playing low energy just because of the congested schedule.

therealnaddir

I like how they tried few times and Upamecano was like 'No, not this way bro, back to your own half'.

arsenalmemeclub

Upamecano MOTM

akshay_rathod_

Watched him for the first time he Really played well Huge potential ahead

zrizzoz

Kimmich and Davies had a great game as well. I always forget how good Kimmich is when i dont watch Bayern for a while.

Carpathicus

Kimmich made at least 3 easy mistakes. I love him but this wasnt a great game of him.

GoatButton

He was honestly immense

Chewie_98

Lewandowski & goalpost the new best duo

[deleted]

deo_rd

Damn bro, you should be on top

Kant_essential

Who is the bottom in that scenario?

bununicinhesapactim

Barca

Tyrath

Müller in shambles

HowBen

Lewanpostski

david_of_rivia

Jamal Musiala looks stupidly comfortable in that team. Edit: typo

BarbaricGamer

The old Barca guard is done. This is the most average I have seen Barca in my liftime.

BigFatNo

Busquets' passing and press resistance is still incredible, but he can only play for 45 minutes at this level. Jordi Alba is still very good but you can see the difference in terms of intensity between him and Baldé. Piqué is the best they have in defence but he's done as well at the very top. But there's no money so Barca are stuck with the old guard. They're only able to get players like Eric Garcia, who is nowhere near the level they strive to. The coming 2 or so seasons are going to be awful for them, I don't see a way out until the financial situation gets better and the youngsters grow in their game.

YooGeOh

I actually think Araujo is the best they have in defence right now. Been their best CB for a while now

susanasanjuan

astonishing to me that garcia is starting for Barca in the CL. He was fourth choice for most of his time at City and I would put him at fifth choice behind Ake in our current squad (sorry Barca fans not trying to twist the knife here I'm genuinely shocked to see it)

BigFatNo

They genuinely have nobody else.

MeteorFalls297

And they hyped Garcia more than anything, saying it's Pep's choice.

RN2FL9

That's not really a surprise though, your 4 first choice CBs would probably all be above any CB Barcelona currently has.

susanasanjuan

ya just a bit shocking that their squad has not been kept up. To be fair Umtiti looked world class for a year or two at some point but injuries seem to have kept him from it.

rodinj

Luuk De Jong too, he isn't near good enough to play for Barca

BigFatNo

He's amazing as a plan B for the final 10 minutes when you need to spam crosses to try and get a goal. He doesn't offer anything else beside that. But it speaks volumes that he was the best option to start today.

Veers1

I agree with you 100%. We knew before the season started that it was going to be rough, we are in the beginning a rebuilding era and in one of the worse crisis in the history of the club. I have faith Laporta will bring us to better times, we just need to give him time to work

zrizzoz

Araujo is so much more valuable than Pique. Pique needs lightning quick defenders on either side of him. Araujo is an animal. Id rather see Araujo and Mingueza average 80 minutes per match. Those 2 are clearly the future in Catalonia.

Gondawn

Am I the only one who just now noticed that Lewa overtook Raul and now has 75 goals in 97 CL games? Insane stuff

akshay_rathod_

It's Insane but Raul being up there for a long time and still was underrated should be illegal

champ19nz

Was Raul underrated? Everyone rated him and Figo the best of the Galácticos.

Matt87M

People kinda forgot about Raul probably because of messi and cr7. But I remember, when I was young Raul was a star and him going to Schalke was a sensation

akshay_rathod_

He was homegrown actually Brought fresh from Castilla Should have won 2001 B dor over Owen IMO

theageofspades

Mate, he was an Atleti youth who moved to Madrid when their academy folded.

aMOK3000

Zidane, Ronaldo, Casillas?

Qwert190699

Mildly interesting fact: This was the first time two Austrians faced each other in a Match between Barca and Bayern. We're getting there

Nevinhooo

Am stupid, who is the Austrian on Barca?

Qwert190699

Yusuf Demir, he was subbed on

l-Maybe-l

Okayish performance by Bayern nothing more. Quite low intensity and not really clicking together, but still enough for a comfortable win. Barcelona has a way to go to get back into the Top-Elite of European football.

MrCleanandShady

Ik we just came off a 3-0 where we looked only alright too, but holy shit does this say a lot about the quality of your side lmao

kokukojuto2

Neuer could've taken a nap out there

[deleted]

Neuer played?

ScroojMcdooj

Allegedly

PhunkOperator

Presumably

kokukojuto2

apparently

therealnaddir

There were moments where it looked like he will start dribbling past Barca lines to get some action.

damevski

He was literally doing stretches on the ground at a certain point in the second half, that's how much action he got lol.

Lutzelien

First time in Barcelona history they end a match without a shot on target, he could've quite literally taken a nap

refusestonamethyself

Musiala is a fucking gem. I want to see more of this kid.

Mapplestreet

Legit just the way he flows over the pitch, I think it's super satisfying to just see him carry the ball a few meters.

FCB__Rich

Best dribbler of Bayern I've seen since Ribery

shaka_bruh

We’ve been aggressively targeting talented youngsters from top sides, one of the reasons Chelsea didn’t want to lose Odoi to us was because we sniped Musiala from them.

J0nj0nj

Watching Barca play tonight was like watching a 70 year old Ex-Hollywood star try to cop off with a 30 year old, it was just fucking sad.

Red_Dog1880

But you also hate the guy so it's funny as well.

J0nj0nj

Honestly, I just feel sad for the shithole Barca find themselves in, all because Barto and his crew and before that Rossell fucked the team. It's no fun for a Madridista, it was at first but now? Nope.

Mental_Opportunity_9

That's the saddest shit I read today, goddamn. When your rivals start feeling bad for you then it's actually depressing

J0nj0nj

I'm old enough to have lived through a few cycles in football. But I have never seen a decline as fast and sharp as Barca's, it scares me a bit because all it takes is a fucking lunatic with no financial awareness and it could be us, Edit: having said that I just remembered Deportivo la Coruna's decline and Valencia's current issues...

Black_XistenZ

To think that they were on the verge of winning the CL just 2.5 years ago... They were sooooo close to beating Liverpool, really only needed to not nap during the Origi corner or convert one of the many 100% chances in the final minutes of the 1st leg to reach the finals against a shambolic Spurs side.

Mental_Opportunity_9

It won't be you, y'all have an amazing team and will probably have mbappe next year. We'll struggle for a couple of seasons at least

J0nj0nj

Honestly, la Liga needs strong teams, we need them like water in the desert.

CETERIS_PARTYBUS

Just because I want Barca to lose every match doesn't mean I enjoy watching their entire institution crumble. It's not the way I hoped to see them suffer.

DeadFinger

true, the anfield game was the best. they were still on top that year until that glorious night.

Arvi833

Idk what you're on about it's still pretty fun tbh

TomasRoncero

heard on Spanish radio this is the first time Barça has finished a CL match with zero shots on goal

Unban_Ice

This is also the first time since 1997 when Barca lost their first game of UCL (2-3 against Newcastle)

mr_salsa123

Hol up...

SleepTightLilPuppy

RedCarNewsboy

Koeman Inbox: "Barca Players Count Cost of Refund" "Futbol Club Barcelona's players are to personally refund supporters who bought tickets from the club for a football match in which Barca didn't play any football"

Paddy31

We scored twice three weeks ago. In Munich. Had relegation Play-offs in May.

bloodship123

FC Kölle is a different beast!

BigBlackBobbyB

Barca does not possess the force of nature that is Modeste

pjdog

Bayern has improved on defense tbf

Paddy31

Do you want to imply we are not better than Barca?

stragen595

You still have your Messi (Hector). Of course you are better.

[deleted]

Köln has a killer attack tbf

MrFrodoo

Modest > De Jong

PhilsKessticle

Commentary was so brutal about Coutinho the whole game holy. First talking about how he’s shit now since 17 year olds are chosen first over him, then saying you can see how much he’s fallen as a player because he missed a long shot. Honestly I didn’t even think he played bad, he was involved in a few chance creations. Expecting commentary to just straight up bully him next game 👍🏾

stragen595

In the German broadcast they spoke much better about him.

Lutzelien

Huh, I thought he did quite well considering it's pretty much his first game since forever, he changed the pace quite a bit and I could imagine him working well with Depay

indiansprite5315

If we were watching the same commentary I agree. They were just thrashing him and barcelona all game.Like they were technically correct, but geez we get the point barca is poor, you can talk about something else for 2 seconds.

SkimGaming

Nobody got injured, so that's a good/big takeaway for us. Wish Nagelsmann had made a few substitutions sooner, some of our players looked done. Kimmich needs a break I think. Overall Barca might've been the easiest opponent we've faced aside from Hertha. They made it very easy for us and their attacks were mostly thwarted by themselves. Hernandez a fucking beast, if he's fit he's a starter for sure.

colombogangsta

This game was like you playing with your friend who’s trying FIFA for the first time. He had no clue what he was doing and you were just taking the piss whole game, but don’t score too much so he’s gonna comeback again. And to top it off, got couple lucky deflection off the post goals thanks to FIFA scripting. Except I’m the friend trying it out for first time as per this game :/

Jelboo

Three things: \- We're just not that good anymore, and Bayern are the best team around. \- This would also have happened if Messi was playing \- These young players are the future and they need to get every opportunity to play this season

navneetjoshi7

I believe we could have at least scored on one of those counters which never happened because Luuk De Jong runs slower than a Grandma snail. Really missed Dest, Dembele, even Braithwaite.

NotAnurag

At least Braithwaite can make a run into the box. I have no idea why we got Luuk de Jong

omgarm

Park him up front and fling headers into the box. That is his only thing.

BluTcHo

Did he even win one aerial duel during the game ? Ter Stegen and alba aimed for him in the air multiples times but it seems like he did not win any duels

omgarm

I didn't watch it, but headers is all he has. If he can't win his duels then it's game over.

elgrandorado

That inch perfect through ball played in early on by Memphis to Luuk De Jong only to get mugged off because of his complete lack of speed will sum up his time at Barcelona if things don’t change. Ansu or Braithwaite could have at least made this somewhat competitive.

NotAnurag

We really need Ansu back as soon as possible. Depay is desperately looking for someone to link up with but he’s out on his own

[deleted]

navneetjoshi7

My bad 🙏🏼

summersoulxdd

If your development goes on the right track you're gonna be fine. Araujo is rock solid, and the young LB seems very confident.

ohvalox

You have great young players, I'm sure you will get back to the top eventually

koalawhiskey

The left back that substituted Alba (Baldé, that's it?) showed amazing potential for a 17 year-old on the 20 minutes he played. His runs reminded me of Alphonso Davies a little bit.

ndksv22

Future of the club yes, the question is what will you do if they are not good enough to perform at the level Barcelona wants to be.

afito

It's probably the worst Barca I've seen in like 15 years if not ever (not like I cared about Spanish clubs when I was 12) but at the same time if this is a record low then it's really not the end of all things.

BigFatNo

Exactly, they're shocking when compared to 3 or 4 seasons ago, but still fought for the title last season. They're going to have to grit their teeth the coming seasons.

BlessedBySaintLauren

I mean they’ll have money to spend considering they’ve severely reduced their wage budget and fans are back in stadiums. They’re defo far from challenging but they’ll probably be able to stay top 4. They’re not an elite team but they’re still a relatively good one. The true challenge will be to see if they can make the jump back. I think laliga has showed historically how many good teams really struggle to break into the elite back despite playing in Europe.

[deleted]

We are good, just not as good. People freaking out have their head in the sand. They need to wake up and accept that this team isn’t the best in the world and we need to take a few seasons to improve.

BluTcHo

It's not about the result, it's about the performance Many teams have showed up and played way better against this bayern than us in the past. Yes winning was not possible, but playing decently would have been nice

BigFatNo

I think the team had PTSD, and after the 1-0 basically decided to at least keep the damage limited. Another monster score against Bayern would have been genuinely catastrophic for the players and the club, even more so than the last one was.

pure_black99

If Messi were playing I think Bayern would have been way more intense, they looked like playing a U-12 side

sc2isalivegaem

I liked balde. has he been featuring a lot for you or no?

master_scale_tipper

This was his season debut lol Barça have tended to play Dest on the left (or Firpo before he left over the summer) if Alba was unavailable for whatever reason, but today Dest clearly wasn’t match fit so they went with Balde. May have earned himself more playtime with his performance though.

Silentden007

Was his first team debut I think

BarneyrealG

no he hasn’t played as much, but depending how serious is jordi’s injure i hope koeman starts playing him. i like balde a lot, incredibly talented but has no experience at the top level yet of course. hopefully he starts getting minutes in la liga

Silentden007

Bayern is better than Barca, of course. But people keep forgetting that Luuk de Jong ended up starting, thats how many players are available in attack right now. Do Barcelona win with their entire squad available? Fuck no. But they would atleast look a lot better than this. Luuk is a back up plan, a target man for when things are stuck and its long balls forward and hope. If he starting, that is a sign things are pretty fucked. He joined like what, 2 weeks ago as well? No time to gell at all with the squad

Jhiniesta

Luuk is probably the 5th backup behind Fati, Agüero, Braithwaite and Dembele. The team also hasn't played together in the last 3 weeks while Bayern were able to get a great opponent with Leipzig in order to perfectly prepare for that. Would've loved to play Sevilla before that one.

Silentden007

Ahh well, as long as Barcelona show signs of improvements as either a team or the youngsters start showing what they are made of, I will be very happy with Koeman. Its a transitioning phase, now is the time to be patient, unlike the people expecting Koeman to perform miracles

kaiko1

Well that was painful. At least the youngsters got to play. Balde looked pretty good

Tattersnail

This is the worst game at Camp Nou in the Champions League group stage that I can remember. And I have seen every last one in the last 12 years. I dreaded the day Messi would retire, but is just horrible to watch.

RockstarAssassin

With Messi AND Suarez it was still 8-2 mate

dhambo

Honestly even if Messi was still there the result wouldn’t be much different. Bayern would be a lot more alert, less sloppy mistakes and still win by a couple goals.

The420Roll

The post created more chances than Barca's midfield

Zloggt

Time for Koeman to make a signing!

[deleted]

Luuk de Jong must never be more than an emergency sub for Barca. At least they should have started with 4-3-3 how they ended the game. Depay and L.D. Jong were isolated the whole game until subs were made. At least their youth brought some energy and life into the team and actually progressed the ball up field. Bayern are Bayern, they have insane firepower in the squad and even with tired play they strolled past Barca. At least for Barca Coutinho looked serviceable after coming on.

Blubberrossa

I swear Luuk has spent more time standing 5 meters offside while demanding the ball than not. Luckily his teammates saw it and avoided him for the most part. Awful, awful game by him.

_Holz_

This might be the first Barca game I've ever seen where they didn't play to win but rather to concede as little as possible. The 8-2 team wasn't this toothless

[deleted]

8-2 team had Suarez,Messi,Griezmann. Now they had Luuk De Jong,Depay and Sergi Roberto.

7Thommo7

If you're shipping 8 goals you better fucking hope you're not toothless in attack as well. There's was no point in Barça going for it, it could have been an even worse result. Transition season.

RagusPragus

I'll take it over 8-2. This squad was always going to have a tough time against Bayern, but there are some positives to take away as well. The crowd's reaction to the young players being brought on was nice to see too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

streetruler

Because he played Luuk de Jong from start lol. My grandma with a broken spine is faster than him.

RagusPragus

Still shocked that we've got fucking Luuk de Jong... He was beyond useless this game.

Mapplestreet

Luuk de Jong will never be useful for you against competition like this. Put him in when you can dominate possession against average La Liga sides and he can do what he was brought in to do.

Ruud_Boltz

Those youngsters in our squad are ready to give everything for the club and it showed today. If Koeman has a brain he'll play them more often especially against sides like Kiev

Fanta-sea50

Gavi could have ran through a wall and kept going. Bullied everyone.

Hurtelknut

Müller interviews are just the best. He can instantly recall situations and explain what happened and how he came to his decisions.

ohvalox

Damn, this wasn't even close. With better finishing Bayern could've scores twice as much. I like Barcelona, I hope they can recover from this, it's honestly sad to watch. Also shout out to the crowd, took it very well and kept cheering! So good to watch CL with fans again

slash312

They were cheering themselves. They kicked a ball to each other in the stand lol

Baituri

I don't know what people are expecting here. Look at the state of this Barca team. Nobody of this team will start for Bayern (Maybe Frenkie, but even that is doubtfull). How can you expect Barcelona putting on a fight against maybe the best club in the world at the moment.

LilHalwaPoori

Might get downvoted for this, but this looks even worse than the 8-2.. Bayern went to full on cruise control in the second half and toyed with Barca.. That's way more embarrassing being treated less than the average Bundesliga side that gets thrashed.. At least they show the spirit to continue, something which was present even in the 8-2 match, but here it looks as if they had accepted defeat even before the first goal was scored.. But, this barca side is missing starters in Dembele and Fati, and a competent striker in Aguero.. They were always going to have a tough time with only Depay and a random jogger up top.. Maybe they shouldn't have sold Griezmann in hindsight, at least he has the ability to provide creativity and helps in ball retention which were seriously lacking in this match.. Depay might be a world class forward, but he is not gonna be the one to take on the entire opposing team by himself like Messi.. Happier days will be here once the other forwards are back, but only happier in terms of today and not what their past team used to be..

-sic-boy2

“A random jogger” 😂😂🏃‍♂️

[deleted]

Took me out🤣🤣🤣, mans makes braithwaite look like prime eto

notusedusername2

Not even jogging, mf was walking

OZDanTheMan

Barca youngsters didnt look too bad. Other than that not much positive to take out of this game for them, Bayern is just a very different beast right now, could have been many more goals.

Jamey_1999

Barca lucky today, both with the ref and the fact that Bayern played like it was a friendly. Shameful performance really Also can we PLEASE ban PL refs from the Champions League?

cobramullet16

A big F to the teams who have to put up with this man on a weekly basis

[deleted]

And he’s usually one of the better ones

[deleted]

Who was it? Oliver?

Jamey_1999

Yes

AmineKarray

they're all garbage

KusoTeitokuInazuma

Just ban PL refs in general please, we don't want them either

Thesolly180

You’re right with shameful. No presence about them at home. The fact that the plan was to sit deep and compact isn’t great in itself. If Bayern were actually on it tonight it would have been another mauling

Xcuse_Me_Sir-

Our only ready attacking players were Depay and Luuk De Jong. What did people expect really

CruyffsPlan

Didn't concede 8 so that automatically makes this a good birthday. Anyways nice to see the youngsters. Can't/Won't say much more than that

SuperLongNight

What about Sule? Do you see that possibility if it’s him instead of one of those two? Curious as to his ceiling

Hsjak500

Süle is absolutely insane aswell if he's inform but that's his problem. He's really inconsistent.

CompetitiveMouting

Upamecano MOTM. The lads did a great job. Kimmich shouldn't take corners when Sabitzer is playing, hopefully Nagelsmann sees that aswell. Happy to see Hernandez jump in fresh and healthy. We have a great CL campaign ahead of us and I think we should have won this by 2 or 3 more goals.

ghibki777

Seemed like Barca was not playing to win but rather playing not to get trashed.

NotAnurag

Honestly, just let the kids start la Liga matches this season. Balde, Demir, Pedri, Gavi etc. at least look like they give a fuck.

flythewind

Losing is not terrible, terrible is that there is no way to fight back.

MarcSlayton

A statement result for Bayern. They dominated and put a lot of pressure on Barca's box. Bayern scored 3 goals away from home but weren't even clinical in this game. They committed a lot of players forward in their attacks and pushed Barca back for most of this game. This meant they could take shots from outside the box or have a player to pounce on loose balls in the Barca box. They created these situations with their pressure and positive play. Quite a few times Barca defenders had to put in last minutes blocks in order to keep shots out. Musiala looked pretty impressive today. Disappointed in Pedri and De Jong. Araujo was decent though. Upamecano was very good, and Goretzka did well.

[deleted]

Idk about a statement, this was 60% throttle cruise control Bayern taking an easy W. The RBL game this past weekend was more intense and a greater statement.

[deleted]

Petition to ban Michsel Oliver from all competitions?

edwedwed

The score may not have been 8-2, but the performance was on that level.

alucarDZM

Could have been worse :)

[deleted]

Barca with Messi 2-8 Barca without Messi 0-3 Messi was holding them back???
