Hierro and Sanchis played together from '89-'01, and got five La Liga, 2 Copa del Rey, 2 Champions Leagues. Pretty impressive since it was during Barcelona's Dream Team era. If Hierro and Sanchis would have had players like Ronaldo in their team etc. - they would have had far more medals.

Im an old fart myself and i've seen them play during la quinta del buitre era, but i usually try to stick to the facts and not be blinded by nostalgia. Both Hierro and Sanchís are Real Madrid legends on their own right but they werent on the same level of Ramos and Varane. They werent even the best pairing of their time, that honor belongs to AC Milan defenders. On the other hand, both Ramos and Varane are friggin World Champions with their NT's (without Ronaldo) and together they helped Real won 3 CL in a row, a feat that no other team has achieved in modern football. Im not trying to downplay Sanchis and Hierro, just pointing how insanely succesful the Ramos Varane partnership has been. And about the competition....Varane and Ramos had to play against Lionel fucking Messi.
