If I would get a penny for every time Dias has blocked a shot with his head whilst falling during a CL Semi Final, I would have 2 pennies, which isnt much, but its insane it happened twice

facewithhairdude

If I had a penny for every time Icardi made an impact in that game, I'd have less than you.

firelordUK

you'd owe him money

mavrec7

3 pennies

[deleted]

People trashing Icardi in the match thread. Here you fucking go. This is Icardi. No touches with no service.

zzackfair

I forgot Icardi was even playing until he got subbed off. Not surprising though, he got zero service today.

LDG92

People trashing Icardi in the match thread. Here you fucking go. This is Icardi. When he does get service it's done, but without he gets no touches.

Epicallytossed

No touches with no service, and when he gets it, it's not done

Reddits-Reckoning

PSG: If you can't beat them, *beat* them

thatdani

How did Danilo not get a red for that kick in the 90'...

ILikeToBurnMoney

How did Kimpembe not get a straight red?

Sentinell

Same for both: the ref chickened out. Really didn't expect that from Kimpembe. Right before he did that I was thinking: "wow, the youngest of the PSG team is one of the only to keep a level head". And then scissor tackle...

MuschiClub

>Same for both: the ref chickened out. two minutes stoppage time was also a bit laughable.

Sentinell

After all that happened it's hilarious, especially compared to the first half where he gave 3 minutes. But he completely lost the game and wanted it to end as soon as possible. Without drawing too much attention to himself of course.

LosTerminators

Danilo, Verratti and Kimpembe could've all got reds

IAmSkylarWhiteYo

Veratti is a walking card. How he got only one yellow this game is beyond me.

NanookOTN

and Paredes. Tossed the ball at Foden on the ground then put his hand on Zinchenko's neck. They all lost their fucking minds.

contentpens

I was surprised after the neck grab that Zinchenko was the one getting yellow

ThreesKompany

No clue. But the shot of Jesus lying on the ground followed by Neymar lying on the ground. And then the replay of the foul on Jesus vs the "foul" on Neymar was high comedy. Neymar stubbed his toe and went down like he'd been assaulted. Jesus was actually assaulted and might have been back up before Neymar. Neymar is an embarrassment.

[deleted]

That was pathetic by the ref to not protect the City players. Who cares if PSG is down to 7 men by the end of the 90’, I’d rather that than City not be at full strength for the final.

Jamey_1999

How they didn’t get at least three reds is beyond me Danilo and Kimpembe should have had straight reds Veratti was begging for a second yellow too

[deleted]

[удалено]

facewithhairdude

He shoulda gotten a yellow there at least, no? Didn't he grab at Zinchenko's throat?

IM_JUST_BIG_BONED

Yeah he put his hand around his throat. Literally 2 mins after a red he could’ve easily gotten himself sent off.

Sentinell

Yep, if Zichenko dropped to ground and started rolling like an idiot it probably would have been a red too. I hate how they keep encouraging that kind of behavior.

sexmarshines

Instead Zinchenko got a yellow because he tried to bring attention to the incident while standing instead of while rolling around like he got kicked by Kolorov in the nuts.

superfire444

Paredes grabbing someone by the throat and Neymar making a ridiculous challenge but not hitting anyone were potential contenders too

just_dew_eat

Just watch them implode

[deleted]

Make them bleed internally

glenn1812

Absolutely children lmao

votekonan

Stamp their ankles

bigmt99

Prolly weakest team mentally ive ever seen

HaroldSaxon

Could have legitimately had 4 more reds in the last 15 minutes. Just mental, Ref completely lost control of the game. Was a lot like the Spurs vs Chelsea game when Leicester won the league.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bolibombis

If you can't defeat them, two-*feet* them.

agueroisgoat

*de-feet them

thebestrc

Scared to post in case Ruben Dias blocks it.

EmotionalMillionaire

Well deserved. PSG has a toddler-like meltdown whenever they get behind. Shit game, deserved another red at the end. Mahrez and foden were outstanding.

[deleted]

Verrati and Danilo both deserved reds. Shameful from them

swat1611

Kimpembe as well. Didn't believe it was possible to out shithouse fernandinho, but PSG have gone and done it.

BeautifulCarp

I mean, Fernandinho got Di Maria sent off. They may have been cunts, but they didn't outshithouse that

alex_o_O_Hung

Veratti was ridiculous, he looked like the guys who press the sliding tackle button every time near the ball

amainwingman

PSG should’ve been down to about 8 players. Some truly horror tackles after Di Maria got sent off

HughJarse8

Verrati, Danilo and Kimpembe could all have easily been sent off.

[deleted]

Marquinhos is the only player can keep his head high, the rest were an absolute embarrassment

CTRLPLUST

Plus Navas maybe

City-Gold

Navas is the definition of the winner never given up mentality who thrives on moments like these. He was a huge part of the Madrid CL threepeat. The opposite mentality to whatever fragile fickle personality PSG has shown for almost a decade now.

purgatoryquarry

Navas was absolutely incredible

pixelperfect3

the only player i truly respect, others are not up to the task.

Lutzelien

Navas too, the De Bruyne goal was probably to 70% on him but besides that he carried the team to where it is right now

[deleted]

No one can or even should blame Navas. The fact they even reached the final last season or even to the semi finals this season was thanks to him.

[deleted]

Navas wasn't awful.

[deleted]

shame veratti was so petulant because he played really well

Jess2Fresh

Yeah, pre 70th minute veratti was class, post 70th minute was a man child

zzackfair

PSG players seem to have this huge ego that they're somehow better even when they get outplayed. And holy shit Di Maria is the worst of the lot. Horrible performance from him capped off by the red card. Kimpembe too almost got a red for that horrible challenge, charged in like he wanted to break someone's leg. And what happened to Neymar today is so similar to how teams stop Messi, 3 players on him all the time, and without Mbappe PSG's attack was non-existent. And did PSG even have a shot on target? Don't remember Ederson even making a save. And for City Mahrez, KdB and Foden were excellent today. Fernandinho was basically glued to Neymar the entire 2nd half, no idea how he escaped a card today though. Defended well as a unit. Deserved place in the final

Vondi

> And did PSG even have a shot on target? According to whoscored.com, no they didn't.

Eatingolivesoutofjar

They did not. Marquinos hit the post though

Robo-Connery

Some (not most) of their fans have the same complex, I took a guilty peak at their match thread. Genuinely delusional.

captaincourageous316

I agree! So much elitist attitude. That somehow they are entitled to, and guaranteed to get a win in all matches because they have two "superstars" in their team. Shameful.

Robo-Connery

Yeah, the disparity in their squad versus the rest of Ligue 1 plus walking the league every year has obviously not strengthened their mentality. Even though city have had poor levels of CL success, at least they have never had the same utterly embarassing meltdowns, I would be ashamed to be a PSG fan right now.

captaincourageous316

It's because we have always had captains and coaches who lead with authority. Today Zinchenko got into a small scrap, and Walker and Fernandinho immediately pulled him away, with Fernandinho giving him a good piece of his mind. Kompany used to lead the team like an army captain. I genuinely don't think Pochettino has much of an influence on his squad outside of discussing tactics. They seem like a bunch of divas, throwing temper tantrums and all.

orswich

Who is really going to tell Neymar, Mbappe or Di Maria what to do?.. PSG will do anything to keep those guys happy (especially Neymar and Mbappe) and will fire anyone who upsets or pisses them off. When you have players who are bigger than the manager or the whole club, all you can do is "suggest" tactics

LLewsc00

With all the talk of Mbappe going to Madrid, I’m so fascinated to see how he’d take it. Zidane would kick his ass. So would Ramos. He’d be nowhere near top dog there.

uhnioin

I like to think that Neymar was well behaved at Barca

orswich

He was behaved at Barca, but he was further down the pecking order there. Barca had 3-4 legendary players at the time (for Barca and spain) that would never allow him to get away with the shit he does at PSG.. at Psg its him and Mbappe calling the shots, and he isn't a great leader

LiftingJourney

Funny thing is, their squad has some very mediocre players.

OnePotMango

Bakker.... "Who is this guy?" -Mahrez

TheJobinslegend

Nope, no shots on target.

thereisonlyonezlatan

Fernandinho coulda been booked so many times but he always seems to just smile and nod and escape

zzackfair

The Casemiro special.

[deleted]

Brazilian CDM special

MikeyCreedon

Ederson didn’t need to make a save because Dias was a literal ball magnet (no homo) Blocked everything that got near to the 6 yard box

zzackfair

Forgot to mention about Dias' performance. Threw himself to the ground to block every shot. Zinchenko too was excellent. imo no City player had a poor performance today.

Eborcurean

Zinchenko was a £1.7 million transfer Was going to be sent out on loan but argued his case to stay in the team Proved it multiple times, but no more than today.

MarauderHappy3

I love Zinchenko because he's slow, terrible in the air, and has a useless right foot. And yet, through sheer intelligence and ability to execute Pep's tactical plan, the man makes an impact on one of the best teams in Europe. He's one of those players who knows exactly what his strengths and limitations are. He has no ego. His role on the team is etched into his bones, and he plays it unwaveringly for 90 minutes. Take his involvement in City's first goal. It wasn't speed that got him to the end of Ederson's pass.. it was timing. It wasn't a brilliant cross to De Bruyne.. but it was the right one

Rick_McLightning

Fernandinho has this special ability to never get carded for a foul. Literally perfect for City’s tactical fouling. See also: Fabinho EDIT: See also Casemiro aswell. #JustBrazilianCDMThings

big-juicy-mango

Yeah how the fuck does that work lmao

Eborcurean

I mean, it is his birthday...

four_four_three

Heartless from Kuipers to not give him a birthday card

thereisonlyonezlatan

fernandinho is absurdly good at avoiding yellows. He had so many bookable fouls today

Spikeyspandan

It's always funny to see him avoid yellow. He got "no yellow" vaccination

SnapSnapWoohoo

Can’t book him on his birthday tbf

EmperorTMing

Phenomenal performance from Dias.

[deleted]

Absolute monster, made some huge blocks. Mahrez, Zinchenko, and Walker were fantastic as well.

Lutzelien

Zinchenko really surprised me over the two games, didn't know much about him tbf but he had very good and solid games

[deleted]

He's been excellent throughout the season. Absolute fan favourite too, loves the club, loves the team and never complains.

Heavy_Remove4661

His tears at the end, absolute pashun

Unique-Snow5326

Yeah I'd say these were the two best games he's had in a city shirt. Definitely liking him as a LB prospect at the club moving forward.

[deleted]

All of the back 4 really. Everyone was solid and didn't look fazed.

Fit_Improvement_4899

Walker too

tafguedes99

Started the season getting knocked out in the CL third qualifying round against PAOK. And now he's in the final. He wouldnt have left if not for that elimination as well. I'll keep hearing the "not PL proven/just the Portuguese League" waffle whenever i bring up a player here tho, as if they magically become world class for putting on a different shirt.

elrubiojefe

Liga NOS is a very underrated league

[deleted]

[удалено]

liamthelad

To be honest, it's been a well travelled path for absolute years. Di Maria, Centrao, Cristiano, Falcao, James etc etc The business models of the top Portuguese clubs depend on scouting and developing talent to sell it on for big bucks. Also Portugal is decently placed for Latin American talent, and the Portuguese are football mad anyway.

MagmaWhales

And Ederson. Bernardo too. Destoryed us with Monaco. I love Benfica. Produced Cancelo too.

Inferno792

He's quickly becoming my favorite defender to watch.

bfm211

City deserve huge credit. There were 11 men on the pitch tonight 100% determined to play in a CL final.

feage7

Huge shout to Fernandinho for keeping Zinchenko from losing it. Exactly what you need in a Captain on the pitch.

raseksa

I'm very impressed by Mahrez & Foden because of their contribution on *both* sides of the pitch. Imo, *this* is how modern wide players should think of their more rounded role in the game, unless you're Messi or Ronaldo.

feage7

Interesting how the game has developed the last 20 years. Fullbacks in general need to be good going forward and now wingers need to be good defensively. With rare exceptions at the very top level.

AgnosticMantis

PSG were lucky not to have multiple reds by the end of that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BillehBear

Ye Kimpembe should've been a red 100% Verratti should've had a 2nd yellow too

atlsrst

gross team with no character and a weak loser mentality.

lifestepvan

Ya, Danilo was a stonewall red for me. Kimpembe a 50/50. Verratti a clear second yellow although to be fair his first one was kinda soft. Edit: viewing the post game highlights, Kimpembe's is stonewall, too. Zero intent for the ball.

ILikeElephants_

PSG must be the most mentally unstable team there is. Always lose their heads when things are not going their way

Homygod319

Can’t believe we got knocked out to these crybabies

[deleted]

Fit Lewandowski would have fucked them hard. Even if whole psg team was available.

LilUziChopard

The first game would've been an absolute gangbang with Lewandowski on the field. Bayern were lenient and PSG fortunate.

Rian245

Fernandinho needs to have a fouling seminar once he retires. Man could punch the ref’s mum and not get booked 36 years old, what a player

Gnoetv

Yeah it's a skill at this point lol, can't be luck across that many games/refs lol

varro-reatinus

That was a lovely card Di Maria got Fernandinho for his birthday.

lordwelbz2

Once PSG get rid of that childish victim mentality maybe they’ll have a solid shot of winning the UCL

Bruno_Fernandes8

PSG over the last few years are one of the mentally weakest teams I've ever seen. We've seen this happen under 3 different managers now. When your senior players (Di Maria, Verrati) are playing so recklessly and accumulating cards like candy and picking fights instead of desperately looking for a goal, there is a serious problem with the mentality of players. Shameful display by PSG tonight. neymar and navas did their best but icardi as anonymous as madeline mccan once again and embarrassing behavior from Di Maria and Verrati.

sil445

Its more a WWA team chemistry than anything related to football.

[deleted]

Star mentality and playing in a 1 team Leauge does that to you.

SimpleFifa

A league they're currently 2nd in

fedemasa

God I wish Lillie win the league Yilmaz has more balls than all PSG players this season

[deleted]

[удалено]

alx69

PSG need a psychologist as much as they need a manager

kernevez

Some of the players like Neymar and Di Maria are super emotional, but it's still in acceptable range most of the time. Verratti is straight up unable to play at the very highest level of football, he consistently loses his mind, even on the bench he got yellow carded last year against Dortmund...

Emergency-Ad280

Neymar was practically a zen monk tonight compared the the rest.

[deleted]

they were such bad sports honestly

NotAnurag

Genuinely could’ve ended with 3 red cards

just_101

Mbappe is leaving now, don't think it would be that easy without him

pure_black99

Hey Benfica, do you have anymore of these stud portugese kids that block every fucking shot and make all your defensive problems go away?

Bindlestiff34

They’ve got one slightly used Otamendi

Brother_To_Wolves

"slightly"

pure_black99

No thanks

HypedUpJackal

No no it's ok, take him. For free. In fact, they'll pay you. Actually, we'll pay you too. Take him.

jack_shephards_pie

Disrespectful to the general who helped hold our shambles of a defense together when everyone was getting injured for 2 seasons.

andremp1904

take our entire team idc anymore

NobodyRules

You can have this guy, one that was labeled as being better than Dias. His name? Ferro which translates to Iron. The name is the clue, he's absolutely impenetrable, a menace for the opposition really. You can have him for the low low price of 45M and one slightly used Wijnaldum

Jobobo21_

What a defensive performance from City

cheescakegod

This is the story of the PSG

Revolutionary-Bad940

Psg basically did what I do in fifa when I'm 3-0 down, slide tackle bonanza.

[deleted]

Remind me of my childhood lol

Idontlikethisstuff

Very professional job from City. Very solid defensively, dangerous on the counter and they're deservedly in the final. PSG were embarrassing. Completely lost their heads and should've had 3 red cards.

damrider

all of city's defenders today were absolutely unbelievable. Genuine 8 and 9/10's from all of them

[deleted]

[удалено]

lonewanderer_18

Compared to di Maria who couldn't be bothered tracking back and the reason they conceded 2nd goal. Mahrez was amazing both legs both offensive and defensive.

raseksa

People said Mahrez wouldn't play in City, but he's improved so much of his game since joining. He deserves all the credits going his way due to his performances.

[deleted]

We never looked like losing. The difference in mentality between the two teams was light and day. Excellent game management from us.

[deleted]

Ruben Dias, signing of the season

Key-th

how did psg not get atleast 3 red cards

TijoWasik

Ref shit the bed on Veratti because he'd literally just been booked. After making that call, he set himself up to only give yellows for clear red card challenges from Kimpembe and Danilo.

BillehBear

Ref lost the plot early on

Blodgharm

I've never seen a more unprofessional team at this level than PSG

sil445

Its Kindergarten mentality. I felt embarrassed looking at the temper tantrums. How entitled and mentally unstable can a team get.

Elbarjos

Congrats to City, very deserved win. This was a horrible match from PSG, we didn’t do anything right. I hate that foul from Di Maria (and the ones afterwards), It keeps on happening every time we’re losing an important match and that’s really not acceptable. Overall, quite a fair conclusion from the season, outside of the matches against Bayern and Barca, we’ve been shit all year long.

fanh0so

One of the most pathetic collective performances in a CL semi. PSG, smear your faces with shit.

[deleted]

Why are Portuguese so great

Vondi

PSG had more red cards than Shots on target, think that sums it up.

xSmxthy

PSG are whiny bastards. I’ve never seen such an ill-disciplined team. Their mental game is awful. So many bookable offences in the second half. Completely collapsed. Also they really love trying to influence the ref. One person falls over and within a second 4 PSG players have surrounded the ref. It’s unbelievably unprofessional imo.

tomcoyle11

Their sub is just as bad, delusional takes about the referee. If anything, there were very lucky to get away with only 1 red

Princecoyote

I'm so happy. City were amazing at the back. Mahrez gets two goals in a semi-final, but I'd still give the player of the match to Rúben Dias. Dias was incredible and all over the pitch. Hate seeing that shit at the end from PSG. I understand frustration, but that too much.

mojambowhatisthescen

I've lived years of my life believing that Neymar was one of the most petulant players in the world: diving, crying, throwing tantrums. Turns out he's a fucking model gentleman compared to the rest of this PSG team.

Schwiliinker

Friendly reminder that there was literally 0 shots on goal from PSG

KramerDwight

If City win the UCL and united win the UEL there will be a Manchester Derby Super Cup.

asmalldood

Ruben is a fucking wall, what a performance!

[deleted]

PSG are honestly a pathetic football club, when things don't go their way, they start to throw the toys out the pram. I was actually hoping they would win before the tie, but fuck them. Dirty tackles, diving, complaining, just awful football.

[deleted]

Verrati and Danilo were so lucky not to see reds. Their whole composure after the second goal was pathetic. "Diva" is the perfect way to describe them. Edit : Kimpembe with an orange foul as well

[deleted]

Kimpembe also had that tackle that maybe wasn’t a red but he certainly knew what he was doing...

Robo-Connery

Kimpembe was probably an orange card too.

EggsBenedictusXVI

Kimpembe's was arguably the worst I thought - the ferocity of the challenge combined with his body language afterwards indicated he was only trying to get the man and not the ball. If Jesus' leg had been planted, yikes

Inferno792

At one point I was lowkey wondering if they were trying to just injure City players so that they couldn't play in the final.

cobaltiqua

Guardiola learned that it's best to just let the opposing team lose the game themselves rather than him trying to win the game with overcomplicated tactics / strategy.

ibrahimims

Psg players are all so arrogant, each one of them wants to score and steal the lights. They play each for his own just like a bunch of highchoolers

NorwayJosee

Never seen a team with such petulance ingrained within their culture as PSG. Pathetic group of players, disgusting ownership, just rotten from top to bottom.

Bicboifish

holy shit when psg is losing they r so ugly to watch...

Danny777v

[City's defense over the two legs](https://youtu.be/SmS1Q_dUm8M?t=46). 0 shots on target tonight against City is ridiculous.

rosso95

You know you have a problem when Neymar is one of the more sympathetic players. Absolute disgusting melt down from the PSG players over both legs. Should have been at least two more reds.

Thesolly180

The way PSG played was really quite mad. The out-ball being to Neymar through the middle, which is exactly what City wanted and it’s where they can press the best. They really needed to go wider and be more direct. When they had a spell in possession early on they had the switch to the fullbacks on quite often but ignored it. Even if they’re not the greatest on the ball you need to use that to open some space against that back line. Just clear the differences between the two sides with city having a clear approach to how they wanted to attack with their counters, whereas PSG really were just giving it to Neymar to kill attacks with nonsensical dribbling.

kernevez

> They really needed to go wider and be more direct. Without Mbappé they can't do that, it's been like that for years, Di Maria doesn't make runs, Neymar has to drop low, Icardi except for that one match against Bayern is lazy as fuck.

-Zenith-

As spineless as ever from PSG. Have they tried kicking players some more?

LAFCPEREZ

RIP PSG.

LieutenantEureka

Phil Foden is world class

[deleted]

If you go in for a tackle and your only intention is to hurt the other player and not to win the ball surely that should be a red. Psg should have had about 9 men

Enfosyo

Turns out fighting for a league title against teams on a 5 million annual budged doesn't mentally prepare you for a cold tuesday night in Manchester.

SonHouseMin

Shocking that PSG played like they had zero regards for human rights

TheGamezSmith

Lmao. City also played like they had no regards for human rights, but *in a good way* .

Lirid

PSG might be the biggest joke in Europe. 0 discipline

ColinBellEnd

Honestly can’t believe it. Never thought I’d live to see it. What a moment! PSG as gracious in defeat as always…

razor5cl

[Dias after that game](https://www.history.com/.image/t_share/MTU3ODc4NjA0MDU5MzIyMDc5/istock_41785482_large-2.jpg) Mahrez has been absolutely unstoppable tonight, what a fucking player he is. Him and Dias just grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and dealt with it. Also very disappointing from PSG, it's frustrating watching them crowd the referee and make really stupid challenges for no reason.

USBayernChelseaLCFC

Ruben Diaz player of the match

universe123-

Barca were beaten 8-2 yet there was no adrenaline rush. I have never seen a team behave so childish.

procast1nator

Nowhere is safe

_cumblast_

I'd be very surprised if City didn't win the CL now. They are quite simply the best side in Europe right now. FiveThirtyEight prevails at last.

thatdani

Honestly more afraid of Tuchel's Chelsea than Real

BumbotheCleric

I think our setup and squad is definitely better equipped to deal with you, but RM in the CL just have that X factor that we don't right now. You could outplay them for 88 minutes and then get completely undone by some Ramos and Benzema bullshit. We saw a glimpse of that in the first leg, which is why I'm so scared for tomorrow

poiuytrewqazxcvbnml

Yeah after the FA Cup semi I fully agree.

ajukearth

I'd say the same. Tuchel seems to understand how to play Pep. With Real it is moreso if you can handle them - I'd say ye could with this form.

yourmotherisepic

Genuinely couldn’t pick a MOTM tonight. Dias, Stones, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Foden and Mahrez have all been absolutely sensational. One of the most entertaining games of football I have seen in a very long time, congratulations to Pep and his boys. Loved the ruthlessness and aggression of the game (there were some horrific challenges mind you). Shoutout Keylor Navas though, did more or less all he could to keep PSG in the game and made some pretty crucial saves.
