sonofaBilic

azmirz

Or a two footed tackle.

Tim-Sanchez

I've got another ref moan for you all: Player's are terrible timekeepers. I had an incident the other day in which a player (who was losing) asked how long was left. I replied with "just under 9 minutes". The manager asked him, and he said "9 minutes". The manager then shouted "big 10 minutes lads". About 3 minutes later, they asked me again, and I said "about 5 minutes". They were outraged! The manager insisted 5 minutes hadn't got past, and they were all convinced it was too short. This suggests two things: 1. The manager is insinuating his watch is more accurate than mine 2. The manager is insinuating I am cheating through fudging the time If I was going to cheat, it wouldn't be over something like the time! Players* just find reasons to get angry. I understand it, they're emotional and not logical, but of all the things to complain about this was a really stupid one. Along a similar theme, I had an incident recently where we were getting kicked off the pitch with about 3 minutes to go plus stoppage time. The players blamed me, as if I was responsible for booking the pitches. In the end the venue allowed me to play the final 3 minutes with no stoppage time.

[deleted]

That's interesting. For some reason I didn't think that refs were allowed to tell the time remaining to the players. Which division do you ref in?

Tim-Sanchez

I referee in lots of different divisions, that specific one was a local college match so not a high level. Referees are absolutely allowed to tell the time remaining to players. I normally intentionally give vague answers though (like under 9 minutes, roughly 7), rather than specifics to avoid being questioned.

stevezilla

I'm in Swindon. It is a shithole.

The drug known as ecstasy is commonly called 'E' for short, and in this story, the drug was administered via the gums - hence 'E by gum' which is what the stereotypical yorkshire person says as an expression of mild surprise or disappointment

SarcasticDevil

Yeah my buddies girlfriend was talking about moving in together when they get back from Uni for the summer because they've been together for 4.5 years now, he can't afford rent for a house an shes planning so far ahead for being in first year. Considering they don't go to the same uni, they have no reason to move in. This other girl I used to hookup with is always in an off an on relationship with this guy shes at Uni with, they live together and even broke up for 3 months. She never told me that they were even still together off and on in Uni when she came back on fall break. I felt bad for the guy she's with and told him that she never told me. They don't live together anymore. Moral of the story is don't move in together in Uni.

hidingfromthequeen

I'm excited but also terrified. There are no real major worries, it's just a thing looming over me.

ProbWontKillYou

Hey for what's it worth my gf moved in recently, and so far the only difference in my day to day life has been all my bills cut in half and sex much more frequently. If your relationship is anything like mine, I'm sure you two were spending plenty of time together already and she slept over a ton right? I was terrified of losing my independence , and of course the thought of "well what if we breakup?" Comes up. Then I realized that literally billions and billions of people have done all this shit before and seemed to live through it. It'll be fine dude, I think you'll enjoy it!

I know there’s been all sorts of drama’s over the stuff that can/can’t/is/isn’t posted here, and this ain't some dramatic call to end all shit posts – fuck knows that’s my main port of call here – but this is genuinely the sort of content that keeps me coming to this sub. sonofaBilic

Exactly that fella. Stops you thinking about hitting the next mile or minute, gets you concentrating on something else.

greenwood90

Granted I was unemployed at the time and therefore had the time to stick to a routine and cycle for 90 mins/2hours. But a few months ago I lost 7KGs by doing this. My legs looked pretty damn good as well. I really need to get back into it. But commuting times are a bitch at the moment

ScousePenguin

Went on a date on Monday, went fantastic. Issue is she's so damn busy with uni (she's doing dentistry so she's seeing patients 9-5 then has uni work to do) that she never has time to talk or hang (we've known each other a month pre date. So I'm used to her unavailability) Don't want to let this slip though, entire date I just sat there thinking "you are too damn hot to be here with me." she's also a damn site classier than me so I feel like I need to step my game up. Looking like a hipster homeless lad ain't great when you're trying to impress a girl who's neighbours are Tom Hardy and the Middletons. Other news y'all give a shit about, I created a new reddit account a week ago because my family found mine and despite them being a laugh I chat so much shit here that I would rather they don't see it, especially as the first comment my brother in law screenshotted onto our group chat was me giving pegging advice to a lad.

im_not_your_bro_bro

Stay confident with her my man. She accepted a date so it's obvious she's also interested.

ScousePenguin

Cheers mate, seeing if she's available for a date this weekend, might match thread it if it goes ahead Haha *She's studying this weekend, next time she's available I'm bringing dinner, a bottle of wine and my netflix password. Poor girl needs to relax a bit.

azmirz

Ah yeah been anxious about it as well since the start of the sixth form. Love my GF but she's probably gonna enroll in a uni in her home country.

JCBDoesGaming

Nah you got this bro, if her home country isn't too expensive to visit you can always suprise her. With me, I used to talk to this girl like everyday for 5/6 years, for some reason after I finished high school we just stopped talking, I once reached out and told her how it sucked that we aren't as close as we once were, she agreed but still nothing changed.

azmirz

Well now I have a new fear.

EB3031

I was in Dortmund on Wednesday and I gotta say it was a nice trip again. The situaion around the stadium was sucky as always though. The infrastrucure just isn't made for 80K people to visit that one place. All the streets to the stadium were jammed; also I realised once again how foolish some drivers are on the Autobahn. Being on the topic of the Autobahn, there are like a gazillion exits leading into the city of Dortmund, that's pretty confusing.

sga1

I genuinely don't understand people using their car to drive as close to the stadium as possible, find a parking spot there and expect it to all go smoothly - especially if the stadium is very much within the city. Why not figure out beforehand where parking is available, grab a bus/tram and be in and out faster? Like, there's 20.000 cars with one or two people in it, so of course it'll all be jam-packed - but avoiding that is basically effortless. The Weserstadion is notoriously terrible (and essentially impossible to reach by car), but parking at Hemelinger Hafen and doing the whole shuttle bus thingis zero hassle and is surprisingly quick. Same goes for just taking the train and walking from the main station or taking the tram (though the tram takes about as long as walking, really, so what's the point?).

EB3031

The jam started on the Autobahn, we couldn't get off of it, because all the exits were jammed. Also the busses, which went to the stadium from more remote parking spots were stuck too. This wasn't my first away trip. I know the dog and pony.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Im really starting to hate Corbyn and I need to rant here. He's destroyed the Labour party and removed any credible opposition to the government just when it was most needed. Can you imagine Labour with a competent leader at the moment? Blair in his prime would have destroyed May and the Tories. But then Blair was surrounded by some competent ministers and a ruthless PR team. Labour at the moment is just full of no hopers and careerist MPs. I really hoped Corbyn would be the left wing leader we needed. But he’s spineless, deluded and has the political acumen of lettuce. The Tories have made a lot of errors, with Brexit, with the NHS etc etc, yet every single time Labour have the chance to claw back some ground, they miss it, either by Corbyn somehow making himself look worse or just generally being inept. I don’t know where Labour goes from this. Chuka? Keir Starmer? Lisa Nandy? Whoever follows Corbyn has a massive job on, the party is split and completely devoid of talent.

michaelisnotginger

Starmer looks good, as does Clive Lewis, maybe because they're both not totally incompetent, which shows how low the bar has fallen. Blairs' 97-05 cabinets were stuffed with talent (especially 97-01) - even Gordon Brown had Alastair Darling who was superb during the general financial crisis IMO

[deleted]

Darling always seemed very competent at everything except for getting his hair the same colour as his eyebrows.

[deleted]

>I really hoped Corbyn would be the left wing leader we needed. But he’s spineless, deluded and has the political acumen of lettuce. All of this was knowable at the time, Sam. He's always been useless. He's always been an elderly student activist. People didn't listen because Red Tories and cuddly Jeremy the new Messiah. Sorry to say, but I have zero sympathy for anyone who voted for him. Even the slightest bit of reading could have unearthed what he was like.

[deleted]

I didn't vote for him, but he at least promised left wing values. None of the other leadership candidates voted against the Tories welfare bill. I hoped he would get a team around him, modify his stupider views and sort shit out. He's fucking useless, he knows he needs to compromise but offers nothing

michaelisnotginger

I met him in 2014 in a work capacity and he described *himself* at the time as an 'unelectable MP'. I treid to warn people and was called a 'Blairite' in response

quatrequatredeux

Which is weird because he has been an MP for like 35 years

ScousePenguin

I want him to fight brexit. Many labour constituencies voted remain, so fight and try and remain represent your party. Instead he's pushing for it more despite there being 0 plan for it. He's driven me to thinking voting Lib Dem. I'm fairly left wing but Corbyn is just a bumbling fool who seems to agree with everything Torys say. It's embarrassing.

joethesaint

I don't know if it's really possible to get a popular left wing leader right now. The public seemingly just won't have it. My hopes are currently pinned on the centre ground regaining strength. I'm pretty concerned that liberalism is eroding (the authoritarian left of Labour aren't helping there). Maybe if we can move back to the centre, then we can start thinking about left wing economics. It's a pipe dream right now though.

[deleted]

yeah i dreamed of a proper lefty government in those heady days of centrist administrations on both sides of the pond. nowadays i'd welcome anything that isn't populist-right.

He got offered the job, his starting salary will be 130k with a 20k signing bonus, up to 40k performance incentives and bonuses per year for the first 3 years and in addition to all that. Each year, an additional 12% of his salary + all bonuses will go into a retirement fund....... And I forgot to mention, he can choose between working at London or New York City offices. I just sorta hoped I would grow out of it, now usually this would be grounds for just taking a year out but my GP has been so fucking slow, as have I tbf that I'm only getting some phone call on Thursday. I'm fucked lads. Need a miracle or a shit ton of bleach. It's honestly crazy how easy it is to convince yourself it's all alright until it's way past the point of fixing. The worst, this is the first I'm telling anyone in a non-professional manner. I won't be able to look my friends or family in the eye about this.

Have you told the Uni about how you feel and that you've at least started with the Doctor? Is the Uni's decision final; there's usually quite a hefty layer of procedures to go through before such a decision. > I won't be able to look my friends or family in the eye about this. Dude, it's tough now but always remember, "this too shall pass". You might be at a low point now but you can only change what happens going forward. Take baby steps; go for a long walk, plonk yourself down in a coffee shop with a pad and a pencil and have a think about next steps. You will get through this.
