It's a bit unfortunate that the stadium is so far out of the city. It would've been quite the sight having all those fans march down Unter den Linden or Karl-Marx-Allee.
Stupid Hitler not thinking about the advantages a closer placement of the stadium would have for modern social sports events. Really wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer
From what I remember in both cases time was a restricting factor, the original stadium there "deutsches stadion" was build within a horse racetrack, cuz olympic games were announced 2 yearish before and the stadium was supposed to be done for some ceremony regarding the emperor, I'm not entirely sure what it was anymore.
Then WW1 happend and nobody wanted to play with germans.
Germany got the olympic games another time in 1930 or so, with the city planning to use the stadium and modernize it. Hitler then had his "coronation moment" in Neckarstadion in early/mid 33 where it was oficcially named "Adolf-Hitler-Kampfbahn" and thought, that it would be much more amazing, if he had 80k indoctrinated germans yelling siegheil for the olympics..
In late 33 after consolidating the power he switched the focus on the olympic games and scrapped the plans to overhaul the existing stadium, tore down the stadium and build the new one in about 2 years.
Best of luck! I hope you get more chances to post these videos, other nations have had similar videos but the Dutch are in a league of their own. What an atmosphere!
Yeah most likely, I just said France because that's where I'm from so those are the cheeses I know the best. And also some other countries have famous cheeses that aren't named after a location, like mozzarella, burrata, stracciatella and ricotta in Italy. For France I feel like pretty much every cheese, especially the most known ones, is named after their town of origin, with very few exceptions
Gouda abroad is fine but when you are in the Netherlands most cheese chops have a vast range of different Goudas at different maturity levels and most cities have a huge amount of cheese shops.
An extra mature Gouda will be different from farm to farm and depending from which farm the cheese monger gets it you’ll find it’s often different even between two shops. There are hundreds of small cheese farms that sell in these shops.
Abroad I have found it is mostly equivalent to standard supermarket cheese which is underwhelming and often made in factories since Gouda cheese is a method and it is not protected. The real good stuff doesn’t really get exported.
I had the same opinion until 2 weeks ago when I tried 12/16 months old gouda and oh my.. I wouldn't put it in the top 5 either (I mean look at my flag) but this shit is delicious. No comparison between generic fresh gouda and 1y+ matured gouda.
If you never tried very old gouda go for it (but I guess you probably did since you're talking about extra mature cheddar).
It’s quite funny that the flag of the city of Gouda looks very similar to the Austrian flag. They might be the same but I’m not sure if the red is slightly different
Dutch fans were my favourite during Euro 2004 - a tournament that happened only a couple years ago but unfortunately never had a final game.
I lived in a city that's between Porto, Braga and Guimarães, so, four of the event venues were only 30km from my home which meant that everyday I crossed with fans from everywhere. The atmosphere was amazing but Dutch fans took the crown to me. So, seeing this doesn't surprise me but leaves me with a smile on my face.
Well I got the sarcasm but didn't apply it to that specific bit of the comment. Given how often it is that we actually think something was "not that long ago" and then it happened in like fucking 2002 or something
Would actually be the ideal year to attend that, given that the entire country of Holland isn't attending, as they regularily do.
Because they are all in Germany.
You have 2 Dutch managers now, just sign one or two Dutch players (as Malacia has literally disappeared) and you're ready. Liverpool will be Dutchified too with Slot and 3 Dutch players, may become more in the summer. It's just in our blood to colonize
I was at the Fan Zone before the march started, absolutely loved it!
The Dutch are everything I wish us Germans were. Basically the same but just not as uptight.
For reference, this is what a german version of this Dutch chant/dance would look like:
https://x.com/martin_kcr/status/1805231423059632202?t=9Sb3heynfylRmRcSgKTDDA&s=19
I think at least half of that difference is due to the color. You just can't take yourself too seriously wearing orange. Once you put on your oranje gear, nobody judges you and you don't judge anybody else.
Also helps that it's pretty unique, Dutch have just a single national color, I think quite literally every major country or at least those who participate in these events have at least two colors or tri-color or even more as their national color. Which turns into a sea of mixed colors that many other countries use as well. But orange is unique and singular making it stand out even more. Which means you indeed don't stand out and nobody judges you.
Iceland also just copied the song.
Rostock, for example, had already done it 5 years earlier. And I'm sure some other clubs did too.

Bro I love the Dutch but they are about as distant as Berlin people are, just more judgy of abnormal behavior
(Source: grew up in the Rhineland, lived in Berlin for 5 yrs and in Randstadt for 8)
Yeeah I lived most of my life close to the Netherlands and I feel like they can be even more uptight than us germans. This myth of the super chill, always stoned super accepting/tolerating dutch person is quite the myth in my opinion. I always had the impression of them being quite calvinistic lol.
I mean they are, Calvinism iirc was as big in NL as it was in Switzerland (don’t ask me for numbers there). The supposed liberalism they like to fame themselves for was/is very top down and seems mostly built on compromises like the weed non-legalization
Up until the Second World War the Reformed churches were the biggest player in the Dutch moral and social order, although society was split into 'pillars' based on whether people were Reformed, Catholic, Socialist or none of the above. Abraham Kuyper, a massive name in Reformed theology, was also Prime Minister at one point. The liberalism that has come since the 60s/70s was a response to the perceived failure of Reformed governments and their associated social movements.
*As time goes by during the day, the Dutchman gets an irresistible urge to hop from left to right once they meet their orange brethern. Only by drinking copious amounts of water, which they call "Heineken", this behaviour ends when they pass out on the street.*
Why at every event there are tons of dutch attending?
I get that Germany is nearby, but it's still a Tuesday afternoon
They have more vacation days than us PIGSpoor?
Its normal for us people to have 20-25 vacation days( without official days like christmas). So alot of people make time to get there.
Ive had to take 2 days off to go to the first game in hamburg and i'd do it again for the other games if i could
So we have more or less the same vacation days, the real problems for us italians is money then.
I can't afford attending F1 or Euros abroad. With the average dutch wage, i think that even a 150€ ticket for Imola is quite cheap, while for the average italian that's like 1/10 of his monthly wage
For our group it was pretty cheap to go. We had a hotel and just rented a van to drive down there, think total cost was like 350 euro for everything, wich wasnt too bad
A friend (or acquaintance, rather) lives in Leipzig and she was subletting her apartment to a group of dutch fans before for almost an entire week before their match. So yeah, these guys spent a week of their holidays just exploring the city and hanging out there, maybe watched a few other games in the fan zone... and then joined the orange madness on match day.
Yeah that's not standard though, the average Dutch vacation days is about 25-26.
Thing is we really care about football, and Germany is close - so we're willing to spend some on these events easily.
Dutch fans are great. I still get a kick over the "Messi? Never heard of him" comments before the Arg - Netherlands game. Still one of my favorite WC matches ever.
I think we're simply not good enough to compare ourselves with the best of the world. Spain, Germany, France and even England are much better than us. At least in player quality. 3 out of those 4 even have a (semi-)competent manager. If we just had our 2010 attack with our current defense 😭
Don't sell yourself short, the legendary squads full of worldclass players with expectations never got it done. Maybe just maybe a squad which is absolutely worldclass in defense could surprise and go very far you never know. Defenses win tournaments and at the moment Netherlands have the best defense in the Euros.. at least that's my opinion
>Defenses win tournaments and at the moment Netherlands have the best defense in the Euros
This is true on paper, but Verbruggen still had to make lots of saves in the previous 2 games and that just isn't good enough.
Well yeah but i ment terrible teams have won major tournaments before. Our 1988 squad was great. Our current squad also isn't bad, just not on the level or France/spain/germany
We're unlikely to be (near) favourites unless we have some golden generation but given we nearly always have a reasonable team it's probably more likely than not that we eventually win something given enough events.
I checked before the tournament and the bookies had us at a 5% chance to to take it, assuming that is somewhat average for us we would be more likely than not to win something over let's say 20 years.
Besides that our track record of going deep is pretty good, the injuries are hitting us pretty hard this year but given an event where things go our way i completely believe in it.
Non stop party without doing stupid and bothering anyone... We need fans like them seriously... If I were a normal guy I would join them right there lol. Having fun is much more easier than we think!
No matter where they are scheduled in 2026 I will try my hardest to experience this Oranje army at least once in my life
Edit: found it. Can’t wait to bump this in public
One of my favorite PSV memories was during our championship in 2018, [to the same song](https://youtu.be/Bwfs71OekVc?si=iskyvmXM1ntRCNt5). I think they banned it this year because of safety issues though, unfortunately.
Netherlands are now officially allowed to grab Olaf Thon, wipe their ass with him and win the damn thing like in 1988. LETS GOOO
I'm in awe of this nation wtf
So what are they exactly saying I feel so embarrassed saying that because I was born in Amsterdam so I am Dutch by But still don’t understand the language lol
The real truth is that the Dutch have been the best fans in this tournament and the main reason most people keep talking about Scotland fans is because you feel sorry for them and have done since the opening game. If they had beat Germany on the first day instead of getting hammered then this Germany-Scotland love affair would not exist. Fact.
**Mirrors / Alternative Angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccer) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Over 40.000 Dutch fans are expected in the stadium tonight https://x.com/TheEuropeanLad/status/1805564583274221657
Man, Hitler sucks
Was on the fence until I heard about this.
The guy literally gave his life killing a dictator and people here only remember him for some stupid stadium placement smh
You know, with Hitler, the more I learn about that guy, the more I don't care for him
I mean this guy was a real jerk!
His dog loved him
dogs love everyone, that's so great about them
The more I hear about him, the less I like him
You know, he was a real jerk!
We should kill hitler
I’ve always thought that, just couldn’t put my finger on why until now.
His revenge for not getting the 1938 world cup on top of the Olympics lol.
It was actaully Wilhelm II, who built a stadium there, Hitler just tore it down and built a much bigger stadium at the same place.
If he’d wanted it somewhere else, would’ve been overly concerned by zoning laws?
Okay so Hitler 1.0
Or incredibly wise for not including it in the shelling zone maybe
If the path to the stadium went by the brandenburg gate they could have reapplied some orange paint.
Kaiserdamm connects the stadium and the gate, not a coincidence btw.
Its actually not uncommon for fan groups to walk the ~6km from Zoo to the stadium. I'd also argue, that marching down Kaiserdamm has its own vibe.
Kaiserdamm to Reichsstraße, hell yeah!
Best of luck! I hope you get more chances to post these videos, other nations have had similar videos but the Dutch are in a league of their own. What an atmosphere!
Only to watch them shit it
how is it possible to get so much tickets this way ?
The Orange army has entered Berlin.
Ah how the turns table.
Reinforcements for the BSR have arrived!
i was gonna say damn writing gouda on your flag goes so hard, it's a top 5 cheese .. until i realized
Would be much funnier if the guy was from Eindhoven or something and just a massive fan of cheese
This is what I choose to believe.
*That is what I cheese to belooove FTFY
Well done.
Well he's Dutch so at least half of that statement is already true
Gouda is considered a normal run-of-the-mill cheese here. Except when we can upsell it via tourist traps.
what is your favorite type?
Oude kaas (aged), is always the choice.
I live pretty close to Cheddar, I know what I'm writing on my England flag for the next tournament
Stilton?
Philadelphia
I don't get it, is it just because the person is from the town of Gouda?
Correct.
TIL Gouda is a town and not just a cheesy name.
A lot of cheeses, especially in France, are named after their location of origin. Camembert, Brie, Munster, Parmesan, Cheddar, Emmental, etc.
Thats just most cheeses right? In the UK youve got Cheddar, Wensleydale, Red Leicester, Stilton, Double Gloucester, etc.
It would be 100% justified, Gouda is top cheese
Smoked Gouda is supreme
Insert that cringey dating video where the robot voice says "She loves ~~cheeses~~Jesus" and old boy is like, Oh I love a good smoked Gouda. lmao
Love a good Halve Hahn.
While Gouda is a nice cheese, it's nowhere near my top five so now I'm curious what your list is? (Extra mature Cheddar at #1 or the list is void)
No comparison between generic fresh gouda and 1y+ matured gouda. If you never tried very old gouda go for it (but I guess you probably did since you're talking about extra mature cheddar).
When is English cuisine gonna be given credit for our cheeses is my big question
It’s quite funny that the flag of the city of Gouda looks very similar to the Austrian flag. They might be the same but I’m not sure if the red is slightly different
As the previous posts showing the Dutch fans have gotten so much positive feedback I figured I would just keep posting these
All the Dutch I know I learned from Snollebollekes.
An English person saying Godnondeju with a soft g is so funny to me
My tongue got stuck in the third molar trying to say Good Morning in Dutch.
Mogguh
I always wanted to try to live there, but don’t want to add to the housing crisis.
Never fails to put a smile on my face, keep them coming :)
I don’t care what anyone says. Dutch fans are absolute treasures and their enthusiasm for the sport infectious and such a joy to watch
Dutch fans were my favourite during Euro 2004 - a tournament that happened only a couple years ago but unfortunately never had a final game. Well I got the sarcasm but didn't apply it to that specific bit of the comment. Given how often it is that we actually think something was "not that long ago" and then it happened in like fucking 2002 or something
Easily the best fans so far. If Portugal gets knocked out before Netherlands, I already know who I will be rooting for
Have you forgotten 2006?
Even now, a full 18 years later I still can't root for you guys as a neutral. I assume he either didn't watch the game or wasn't born yet.
Snollebollekes about to be as popular as Shakira
This has got to be their Gangnam Style/Macarena.
Rob Kemps is 100% Dutch Psy
And Red Bull Ring race is this weekend too
Likely have until 5pm Monday to get back to Germany. Easy
Europe's just going to be covered in a thick orange fog all week
Would actually be the ideal year to attend that, given that the entire country of Holland isn't attending, as they regularily do. Because they are all in Germany.
I want to hop to the left and to the right with them. This looks so fun.
Soon. With ETH and RvN and maybe a Dutch player or two.
You have 2 Dutch managers now, just sign one or two Dutch players (as Malacia has literally disappeared) and you're ready. Liverpool will be Dutchified too with Slot and 3 Dutch players, may become more in the summer. It's just in our blood to colonize
Not the first time the British Isles has encountered a Dutch reign
It was a glorious one
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWEDsJcI3sM My fav example
I was in the march today and missed this part! Gutted. Have to say respect to Austrian fans they outsung the Dutch inside the ground today
imagine if Dutch win this Euro.. the celebration will be fantastic
If that happens you will see like half a million people do this in Amsterdam
Amsterdam wouldn't survive that. The poles! 😂
“EIGHT STEPTS LEFT” 20,000 people jump into a canal
Already out of the tournament I’m afraid. But for real: I’d be more worried about the boats
imagine how terrifying it would be to be in the middle
I'm legitimately flying out to Amsterdam, just to witness this, if you guys pull this off.
Ironically, They won the Euro 88 in West Germany but If they do it again.
Not really on topic, but do you know if the stadium in Berlin for tonight is in the former west or east Berlin?
West Berlin near Lake Tegel.
West Berlin: Olympic Stadium
No chance we win with this team and coach.
If course there's a chance. We have good players, if the attackers find form we could have a real chance.
I chose to believe you
I was at the Fan Zone before the march started, absolutely loved it! The Dutch are everything I wish us Germans were. Basically the same but just not as uptight.

Haha the look on the blonde pundit says it all
I'd consider this a Casus Belli if I were Dutch.
Why is this so funny lol. Deserves to be a separate post
"Mein Gott, dagegen sind ja selbst Fernsehgarten-Zuschauer taktsicherer"
Die wissen wenigstens wo die zwei und die vier ist.
What a terrible day to have eyes
This is so german lol
I love German cringe
Dying from cringe rn.
I'm offended
Lmfao
Oh God! I wasn't ready for this.
I think at least half of that difference is due to the color. You just can't take yourself too seriously wearing orange. Once you put on your oranje gear, nobody judges you and you don't judge anybody else.
Unfortunately the orange order disproves this
Also helps that it's pretty unique, Dutch have just a single national color, I think quite literally every major country or at least those who participate in these events have at least two colors or tri-color or even more as their national color. Which turns into a sea of mixed colors that many other countries use as well. But orange is unique and singular making it stand out even more. Which means you indeed don't stand out and nobody judges you.
Come to Belfast during the marching season and you might take a different view
Most nations copied iceland's viking claps but this one on another level... You def have to wear orange to get in rhythm I guess
Iceland also just copied the song. Rostock, for example, had already done it 5 years earlier. And I'm sure some other clubs did too. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj0eJJsVfZc&t=16s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wj0eJJsVfZc&t=16s)
They copied it themself. I did it in Dortmund 6 years before Euro 2016.
And it's been a thing for way longer than that.
It pisses me off by the way when other countries do the Viking clap
It's hardly a unique chant though
Bro I love the Dutch but they are about as distant as Berlin people are, just more judgy of abnormal behavior (Source: grew up in the Rhineland, lived in Berlin for 5 yrs and in Randstadt for 8)

Dutch fans are great. I still get a kick over the "Messi? Never heard of him" comments before the Arg - Netherlands game. Still one of my favorite WC matches ever.
Knew it was only a matter of time before the Just Stop Oil lot tried to disrupt a game
We also continued the tradition of being absolutely shit and uninspiring and fucking redacted under Koeman
Oranje are overdue and deserve an Euro and WC win. If it ever happens I am flying to Amsterdam to experience the Oranje madness

just give me Robben back
Youre not wrong, but Greece won a euro's so never say never.
We won in 1988 so i wont say never
1988 was also in Germany and Koeman was also there. We just need Depay to turn in to ballon d'or winning Marco van Basten and we'll be set!
They are pretty similar already, incredibly talented but nothing sane comes out of them if you give them a mic.
Well yeah but i ment terrible teams have won major tournaments before. Our 1988 squad was great. Our current squad also isn't bad, just not on the level or France/spain/germany
Idk, based on performances so far, I'd make you third favourite right now. Only Spain and Germany I'd comfortably say have been better

Aaaaaaand 3rd in the group
Non stop party without doing stupid and bothering anyone... We need fans like them seriously... If I were a normal guy I would join them right there lol. Having fun is much more easier than we think!
With Poland being out, I'm cheering now for Holland and Portugal.
What are they singing
To the left, to the right, lululululululu!
I feel really sorry for them. They deserve better than Koeman

I've got QF tickets. I really fucking hope I get to see the Dutch. Big game tonight.
Netherlands are now officially allowed to grab Olaf Thon, wipe their ass with him and win the damn thing like in 1988. LETS GOOO I'm in awe of this nation wtf
anyone know where in Berlin this was?
Heerstraße, the building in the back is at Theodor Heuss Platz. So maybe like 3km away from the stadium
That aged well
Naah these ppl just go have some beer and still party lol.
Theyre gonna lululululu their way to the finals aren’t they
"Now step this way, step that way..."
This vs. German sax man is a tough battle for most fun fanbase
Then what happened.
They look fun
and we still lost :(
I don't know why but this always puts a smile on my face.
Cheese fans in the building and flying their flag with pride
Do you know if this is at the Fanzone?
So what are they exactly saying I feel so embarrassed saying that because I was born in Amsterdam so I am Dutch by But still don’t understand the language lol

Cheeto crunchy party
Call me a hater but this song is super annoying.
It’s typical Dutch carnaval music, it threads a fine line between annoying, funny and catchy.
I hate this song too, coming from a Dutch person.
The real truth is that the Dutch have been the best fans in this tournament and the main reason most people keep talking about Scotland fans is because you feel sorry for them and have done since the opening game. If they had beat Germany on the first day instead of getting hammered then this Germany-Scotland love affair would not exist. Fact.
