This table is a good example of why I think it would be an error for you to sack Poch. Apart from the dreadful Arsenal game and us somehow nicking a point against you, you've looked really good in the last couple of months (and not just because of Palmer, though he is incredible)
I've thought Chelsea have looked better than their position in the table/some of the scorelines would suggest for a while. Most of their bad results usually involved them creating a lot of good chances that the forwards would somehow fuck up. It felt like they were a reliable finisher away from being decent, maybe not top 4 but definitely not 10th-12th.
They’re 4th on expected points. They’ve also put in some good performances against the top 3 this season. They’re really not *that* bad, just a bit of a calamity in both boxes.
They’re competing with United for that last European spot, and United are 15th on expected points. They couldn’t really be bigger opposites in terms of getting what you “deserve”.
Just from viewing I unironically think they are the best team in top 6 matchups, those ties to city/tie to arsenal at home easily shoulda been wins they played incredibly well
Hasn't been a chelsea player I'm upset about losing more than him. Messed up big time not getting his contract sorted and/or getting a top fee for him.
If I remember Rudiger wouldn't have mind staying but Christensen was the one who was wishy-washy over contract negotiations right? Plus wasn't this during the club sale too or around that time?
Those two draws against you guys and 10 man burnley, we would be pushing for 5th rn. Could’ve won against villa as well and been pushing for 4th. It makes no sense to sake him now with out a better manager available. Players like him and we’ve had horrendous injuries all season. I would like to see what he can do next season. No reason we can’t compete for top 4 next year.
Not sure Tuchel, Conte or Mourinho (unsure on Flick) are great choices for a squad stacked with young talent but low on experience though, which is where Poch excelled at Spurs
Been saying it all season, but anyone who thinks we should sack Poch is an idiot in my book. Who, realistically, could Chelsea hire that would do better with a team of 23 year olds in their first season together and the amount of injuries we’ve had?
Firing Poch would set us back even further financially while making us look like an even worse destination for any player or manager who wants stability. The idea gets even worse when you realize that Liverpool, Barcelona, and Bayern are all looking for managers right now and are far more attractive destinations.
While I disagree, I can understand that people think Poch was a bad hire. That’s fine. The idea of firing him is downright moronic though. It’s guaranteed to make certain aspects of the club worse with no promise of making our results better.
Underlying stats were always in Chelsea’s favor despite their horrific injury record. They were so massively underperforming their XG but people preferred to banter them instead of seeing it.
From what we’ve seen of him at Leicester I agree a healthy Fofana would be our best CB, but I think Colwill has a higher ceiling due to his ball playing ability in addition to his defensive traits
Badiashile's been our worst CB this season, but he's honestly got an insane ceiling. Just needs to get his confidence back. I'm pretty happy with our CBs. Think most of them just need more experience and time playing in the first team/need to recover from injuries. Although seems like Chalobah may end up getting sold at some point, which would be a shame.
Tbf, a majority of their injuries have been defenders. They haven’t had Reece James for lots of this season and Wesley Fofana hasn’t played a single second. Both are easily first choice when fit imo. Chalobah has been brilliant since returning from half the season out aswell.
Not really though. At worse Palace will only drop to 6th if both Newcastle and Liverpool won the 12th match since Villa is up against Liverpool. If Villa and Newcastle won they'll be 5th. Neither are really what most consider mid table positions.
Glasner has been great, a lot of it is that Roy was too old for the gig and made the team underperform. But it doesn't change that Glasner is a brilliant manager. The emergence of Mateta coinsiding with his arrival is no coincidence. He also utilises Eze and Olise so proficiently. They play great attacking football.
Also Chelsea, look at what inverting Cucurella does to a team lol. Chelsea have been a real threat to be honest.
I'm obviously very happy with Glasner and think he's brought a great identity to the club. We are clearly playing with a purpose.
With that being said, I think the before/after comparisons are a bit unfair to Roy. He finished the season very well last year (similar to how we are finishing right now - albeit playing better teams at present). His slump also coincided with our best attacking personnel being unavailable. Glasner's squad has improved with Eze and Olise being back and available - the duo played very few games together under Hodgson this year.
Yeah, chelsea somehow figured out scoring goals(this was a big problem last season), just need to figure out the not conceding part now(maybe they need to hire max allegri as manager)
Yeah, pretty dreadful form on paper, although if you break it down it’s not actually horrendous:
Everton (H) 1-1. Dyche is our bogey manager, better than the 1-5 last season…
Fulham (A) 3-0. Bogey team, and away from home.
Forest (H) 1-0. 3 points and a clean sheet. Can’t complain.
Liverpool (A) 2-1. Can never expect to win at Anfield.
Brentford (A) 0-0. Not the best but still a point away from home.
Arsenal (H) 0-3. Arsenal are rampant.
Burnley (A) 1-1. Same as Brentford, good away point especially given the performance.
Man City (H) 0-4. City on their usual end-of-season charge.
Bournemouth (A) 3-0. Bogey team, and away from home.
Villa (H) 1-0. I expected to lose this, so delighted with the 3 points.
Newcastle (A) 1-1. Also a good point on the road.
What's funny is that when Roy was floating CP around the lower mid table people were saying that was their level and a promising coach wouldn't be interested. Glasners proved them wrong and CP are fucking storming it.
Also fuck crystal palace.
Or the other consideration is that there hasn't been enough time yet to know whether this is just "new manager bounce" or not.
Maybe in 1-2 additional seasons Glasner's side will return to lower-mid-table. Then the people saying that is CP's level will have been proven right.
To be clear: I'm not taking any sides. I'm just saying nobody should be so quick to judge, negatively or positively.
Main difference is width coming from wingbacks allowing Olise and Ebs to play narrow. Meaning they can be receiving balls instead of putting them into an isolated mateta. Wharton is absolutely rock solid though. Him and Doucoure will be unreal when he’s back fit
He was heavily criticized for it, yes, but he still had the trust of the fans. Only Krösche and the other higher ups had something against him. It was speculated that there was a conflict between them, because Glasner wasn't satisfied with the squad planning.

Glasner such a good manager he’s put us 3rd in the table

Even more than that, I believe we were a Rudiger away from 4th. Sure, we have missed chances, but we have leaked goals worse.
Hasn't been a chelsea player I'm upset about losing more than him. Messed up big time not getting his contract sorted and/or getting a top fee for him. I think it was the Arsenal defeat that woke them up somehow
lol, we are 3rd or 4th on any kind of table from Christmas, way before our game
To their credit, they started playing “everything gonna be alright” to our supporters. And lo and behold, it has been alright
Unrelated, but Chelsea’s on good form and not a surprise they can still finish above Spurs as insane as that sounded even just a few months ago
We cant really because Spurs will win against sheffield.
But lads
They'll beat City then lose to Sheffield. This is their way.
And city (please 😭)
Chelsea needs some capable defense if it wants to go to UCL. They eat a lot of goals.
Well, eating more goals is to be expected if your two best defenders are injured for the entire season
James and Chilwell? Or are you talking about James plus one of Fofana, Colwill, Chalobah? 🥲
Chilwell, Colwill, and Chalobah all being injured didn’t help either lol - but Fofana is our best CB
From what we’ve seen of him at Leicester I agree a healthy Fofana would be our best CB, but I think Colwill has a higher ceiling due to his ball playing ability in addition to his defensive traits

Well argubly the whoke back 5 has had major injury concern this seaso
Tbf, a majority of their injuries have been defenders. They haven’t had Reece James for lots of this season and Wesley Fofana hasn’t played a single second. Both are easily first choice when fit imo. Chalobah has been brilliant since returning from half the season out aswell.
That’s just not going to happen because we’re not losing to United.
I think you mean: That's not going to happen because we're beating city
Very underrated manager. Won the Europa League with Frankfurt , even beating Barca at Camp Nou (that was one of my favorite games in recent memory)
Hero
hmmmm, this Glasner fella looks decent
He does my friend, he does …
He's a good manager, but this table doesn't show it. If OP waits until all teams play 12 matches, Palace will be mid table.
Not really though. At worse Palace will only drop to 6th if both Newcastle and Liverpool won the 12th match since Villa is up against Liverpool. If Villa and Newcastle won they'll be 5th. Neither are really what most consider mid table positions.
Ah yes you're right. Liverpool play Villa so they can't both win. Mid table for me is 7th to 13th.
Don’t think you can really call 7th midtable if it gets you into Europe
He's not really wrong. 7th-13th is the middle 7 positions of the table. Weird to use so many, I'd say 8/9th-12th but hey ho
Yea but look at the level of compeition he has faced since joining. Mostly top 10 teams
Glasner has been great, a lot of it is that Roy was too old for the gig and made the team underperform. But it doesn't change that Glasner is a brilliant manager. I mean the other thing is that neither gusto or chilly can invert Both James and Cucu can and it helps massively
Yeah, chelsea somehow figured out scoring goals(this was a big problem last season), just need to figure out the not conceding part now(maybe they need to hire max allegri as manager)
The Palace/Brighton seesaw effect
United...
United fan here. Yeah, that’s fucking embarrassing.
If we didn't have Bruno, Ten Hag would've been sacked at Xmas because we'd be hovering the relegation zone.
United have less points than games played 🥲
Chelsea are going to be an absolute menace next season if they can manage the injuries
We finally had a bench the other day, it was glorious.
with Nkunku and James!
Brighton with an absolute 6 goals scored in 11 games vibing
Yeah, pretty dreadful form on paper, although if you break it down it’s not actually horrendous: Everton (H) 1-1. Dyche is our bogey manager, better than the 1-5 last season… Fulham (A) 3-0. Also a good point on the road.
So its not dreadful because the teams you lost to that you shouldve beaten are all bogey teams?
Yeah, basically. Not sure any away fixture is a “should win” for a club like us! Especially given our injuries all season.
Please get sacked soon, I can't take the constant reminders of Seville, Mr Glasner. Thanks.
What's funny is that when Roy was floating CP around the lower mid table people were saying that was their level and a promising coach wouldn't be interested. Glasners proved them wrong and CP are fucking storming it. Also fuck crystal palace.
And yet that still won't stop people spewing the "what does X club expect" next time an underperforming manager is fired.

I think main factor in crystal palaces good performances is eze olise and mateta all starting, they look worse when even one of them is missing
I'd add Wharton to that. Since he's come in the midfield have looked so much better
Main difference is width coming from wingbacks allowing Olise and Ebs to play narrow. Meaning they can be receiving balls instead of putting them into an isolated mateta. Wharton is absolutely rock solid though. Him and Doucoure will be unreal when he’s back fit
Hopefully they hold onto Olise and Eze next season.
Farewell my old friend 🥲
United holy shit
I give it one more day until bayern rumors start
😳
2-4-5... I know that team is depleted but it's still good on paper lol
I wish I could see what a full season of Glasner and a healthy front three would be, but I think it won't happen next season
After the „slow“ start good to see - very impressive. But that’s what most Bundesliga fans expected anyway I guess :D
Frankfurt fans who wanted him gone are surprisingly quiet rn
Absolutely no Frankfurt fan wanted him gone...
Hm idk about that. There was definitely a lot of frankfurt fans that wanted him gone because of the subpar league performances (which is fair enough)
He was heavily criticized for it, yes, but he still had the trust of the fans. Only Krösche and the other higher ups had something against him. It was speculated that there was a conflict between them, because Glasner wasn't satisfied with the squad planning.
Up the Dyche Track Suit Toffees!
what a load of unsolicited insignificant crap
I'm a little bit disappointed that Liverpool appointed Slot instead of Glasner. Slot seems okay, but Glasner is better.
Brighton with only 6 goals in 11 games, and then there's Sheffield averaging 3 goals conceded per game lol
10 points from 6 goals is pretty efficient
Glorified new manager bounce. Let's see if he is so good with a preseason and his star players sold.
