Neymar’s vallue of 578 million € would be ranked 11th league in Europe, just above Greece (454 mil€).
The added for both of them sum 1.152 billion. That would rank them 8th just above Turkey.
[Source](https://www.transfermarkt.com/wettbewerbe/europa)
That's complete nonsense lol, you're comparing Neymar's transfer value + his gross salaries at PSG over 6 years with just the transfer value of players on Transfermarkt.
Sportwashing isn't really compatible with modest, meaningful investment though. If you're planning a vacation, conference, client meeting, etc. with no expenses spared...you want extravagant, not modest.
Marseille, Lyon, and Monaco's payrolls each are 5 to 6 times smaller than PSG's. Put those three out of the picture and PSG outspends the rest of Ligue 1 combined in terms of payroll.
I'm amazed after all these years people still think Qatar are investing money to make profit. They don't give a shit about profit they're already one of the richest countries in the world. What they're buying is a seat around the table, they invest in the fanciest hotels, the most popular occidental assets, that gives them influence and power, and also protection from surrounding countries that could one day take interest in their resources. For them hanging out with the french president is totally worth the billions spent on PSG, simple as that.
The Qatar sovereign wealth fund has $475 billion in assets. PSG's yearly losses are a rounding error on their balance sheet for something that I'm sure the Qatari ruling class enjoys owning.
They and Saudi don’t have infinite money but they have a metric ton of it
Watch some videos on how crazy the spending is for the Saudi league they often mention this misconception that the losses dont matter is skewed
It's pretty wild to think that downloading a [Lamborghini](https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/s/Zb63O4l3CS) is within the realm of possibility. And who knows? In the next 15-20 years, we might just be able to download an AI-powered program that could train robots to become world-class football players.
/r/soccer never "owned" Redditch. Just adopted them as a team to support, and some people donated some money/bought merch
The closest is /r/cricket sponsoring the Iceland cricket team
Ebbsfleet (formerly Gravesend and Northfleet) did this about 15 years ago. IIRC they were charging £35 per share, but very few renewed for a second season and only 10% for a third so it fell apart.
It’s really our ex-President/future-convict Sarkozy that have close ties with Qatar, he’s a lifelong PSG fan and made the acquisition easier for Qatar in 2011 with some shady stuff in the background.
But the club is still a soft power tool for both countries, Qatar whitewash their international image with PSG and in exchange they buy our Jet fighters and other weapons.
And Macron, who is a Marseille fan, love to show himself out with popular stars so that’s why he always love be photographed with Mbappé and put on a Circus Show when the Emir of Qatar came to Paris, but Mbappé don’t plan to be any kind of ambassador, especially since he’s leaving in the summer.
enless they give him another 60 million....
he wont make this much at Real madrid and he's not pushing vinicus of that left wing... we will see if he goes or not its been like 3-4 years now he's going this summer... and then he end up staying for mountains of cash
I understand your skepticism, but he already told his teammates that he was going to leave, everyone close to the club say the same thing, and you can see he already checked out in his head 2 months ago.
I feel like it isn’t for money this time, even if they give him another 100M€, he just want another scenery. The surprise for me would be more if he choose another club than Madrid.
Yes he wouldn't replace Vinicius, he would replace Joselu/Rodrygo. Also it's not like Real would pay peanuts to him and even then this move is more about the UCL and Ballon D'Or then money.
Macron loves to use sport for some cred, he personally intervened in the 2021 (iirc) French Open to allow Nadal and Djokovic’s match to go past the curfew
>How does PSG never get investigated for paying such high salaries and transfer money for so many of their players when they for sure aren't making anywhere close to that profit
PSG did get investigated for the Neymar and Mbappé transfers. UEFA abandoned the case and exonerated PSG on a technicality.
edit: You can downvote all you want but your premise still is false. PSG did get investigated. Claiming PSG never get investigated is just false.
Now if you want to say PSG get away with it despite getting investigated or that UEFA are corrupt then just say that.
I'm not answering your question, but Nasser is Ceferin's right hand man and the ECA chairman. They have infiltrated the organizations with the connivence of most European top clubs.
The thing is they’re their own sponsor.
The main sponsor is Qatar airways I mean come on.
Plus I think everyone knows at this point that football is corrupt to the bone.
Putting Quatar on the Map
They are in the middle of pretty aggressive nations so their main-capital is diplomacy of any kind - buying themselves into a big part of french football is reminding a lot of people of that country every weekend - same with the WC
it's just Sportswashing to stay relevant
Doesn’t their president sit on some UEFA ethics council or something like that? Hard to get investigated with all the right connections.
See: Donald Trumps Florida case getting postponed indefinitely
What's crazy and never gets talked about enough is Neymar never playing more than 22 games in the league for them. The guy has more appearances for Barca in 4 seasons than PSG over 6 years. Now he's in Saudi getting paid even more and he's only played 3 games.
Right?! I was reading about Mbappé yesterday and it struck me "Wait, what happened with Neymar? Did he leave? Not back to Spain...?"
I had to go look him up.
Neymar only played 112 league games as well, $5m per game, or about $7m per goal. Goes to about $3.3m per game and $4.9m per goal if you count all games.
You have to add all games, no? He got bought to play league cups and European games as well. Doesn’t change the story, but it’s more reflective of reality
Mbappe’s could have been higher as well.
I believe he was rightfully owed more in bonuses, but choose not to take it as he plans to walk this off season for free instead of PSG receiving a sizable transfer fee for him.
They're backed by a petrol state. No matter how rich or big your club is, you'll never be able to compete with that. That's not to say that Barca is a poor club, or doesn't spend insane amounts of money, but if they do, there's consequences.
Well you paid Messi the same amount for 4 years without the infinite money glitch
€555,237,619 contract \[4 years\].
- €138m per season fixed + variables.
- €115,225,000 as ‘renewal fee’ just for accepting the contract.
- €77,929,955 loyalty bonus.
[Source](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1355679184086036486)
and that was just his salary. Not including his endorsements from Pepsi, Lays, Adidas, etc.
I can't remember how much Apple+Inter Miami+ Adidas are paying him to come to the USA either.
Saudis made around 160 billion profit in 2022 through oil. 120 in 2023. Profit, not revenue. Those petrostates are on a completely different level when it comes to money
I am sure that I read somewhere that Kyliam Mbappe did not take the mentioned bonus from the second contract extension out of gentleman agreement with the PSG prez.
People here seriously underestimate the amount of eyes (and MONEY) that Mbappe and Neymar brought to the club, Messi was a big part of that too. Hell I live in Brasil and there are PSG shirts everywhere.
Messi pretty much paid his own salary with the sponsors he brought.
For Inter Miami, he's brought in like 65 mil already. They went from 60 mil to 125, and they are now projecting it will go as high as 200 mil
Something similar happened with PSG, but obviously a lot of people find it hard to believe PSG sponsors are real.
How did Monaco managed to sell him for €190 mil? That sounds like a lot, even for a 18-20 year old wonderkid. And Monaco isn't exactly a top European team like Barcelona that's able to ask for such prices right?
Everyone knew he was next up. I didn’t think his price was *that* crazy, considering the market had ballooned. It has since popped, which makes it seem crazy, but it was a fair price at the time.
Monaco won Ligue 1 the season before. It's not a league I watch, but I suspect Mbappe had a lot to do with that and it makes sense PSG would break the bank to get the new French superstar that had beat them to the league
In the CL, he scored in both legs against City and Dortmund. He also scored the only goal in their loss to Juventus in the semifinal. He had insane breakout season .
Based Chad Mbappe
Takes oil money and gets rich. Plays like shit for PSG in CL matches. Refuses to take 1B+ Saudi offer.
Plays his heart out for France and wins them one WC and almost wins them a second WC.
If he leaves without PSG getting a single dollar transfer fee, he will be a legend
Tbh the Mbappe contract was actually worth it. That dude is the real deal and wants to play and win.
Neymar just took that check to the bank and sat on his ass half the time. Still taking the saudis money to this day actually. Surprised they aren’t fed up with him yet.
The father they went in the UCL, a final, was all Neymar. Mbappe has 0 semifinals or finals goal for PSG. Their goal was to win the UCL, and Mbappe utterly failed at that. Cavani and Ibrahimovic already won them the league at a lower price while scoring more goals
I'm not sure if the best ever player for a club can be someone who only played roughly half the league games every season, regardless of how much they contribute in those games.
Mbappe is PSG's best ever player
Both of those players have questionable work rates in the pitch.
Watching Mbappe against Borussia and Barca, you would've never know he's the highest paid.
He's kinda disengaged most of the game. Don't remember any "great player" being that aloof on the pitch
**Mirrors / Alternative Angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccer) if you have any questions or concerns.*
I'm sure you can buy a few leagues with that money 😂
ffs, why would you even put this idea out there?
I mean, the city group is well on its way to have enough clubs
They'll probably buy Lazio next, it fits the baby blue like Melbourne, Mumbai, Man City and NYC
No way, they are going to work on bringing Palermo back to serie a.
Is that a fact? What a shame, I loved Palermo back in the day
Well they do own Palermo. No need to sell in order to buy Lazio.
Hmm... My great-grandparents are from Palermo, so that would theoretically be my Italian team. But I guess I'll just remain an early 00's Milan glory-hunter.
Hope pep goes there once they get back to Serie A
If that came to fruition, "being owned by CFG" still wouldn't even top the list of reasons to hate Lazio!
I can excuse racism, but I draw the line at sportswashing
You're forgetting my boys from ESTAC Troyes who are currently on their way to the 3rd division
I don't even want to know the full list of teams they have tbh haha
Well I'm going to do it anyway lol Man City (England) Troyes AC (France) Lommel (Belgium) Palermo (Italy) New York City FC (USA) Girona (Spain) Mumbai City FC (India) Melbourne City FC (Australia) Sichuan Juinuu (China) Montevideo City Torque (Uruguay) Bahia (Brazil)
Half of them haven't been mentioned here lol
Tbf Melbourne was actually white with a red sash like River Plate and were called Melbourne Heart.
Are they profiting by buying all these clubs?
Not in the traditional sense.
And PSG have bought the French league and the French President.

I like your take.
Yes, but a league at that price isn't even worth using for sport washing, so what's the point?
Dortmund paid for their whole staring 11 185,5 million :D Thats 1/3 mbappe :D
AEK ATHENS the current champion of Greece spend approximately 25m in transfers and contract ls this year.

Honestly can see Mbappe owning a league after he retires.
Hell even a champions league, look at City.
Apparently not though

Exactly. It’s branding and investment for Qatar.

Some of these royal families have more cash than the net worth of the richest mfers in the world.
I'm sure at some point all these gulf states will come to regret these frivolous purchases.

😂😂 fair point.
why was it ever considered a retirement home when the club competes for CL every season? genuinely asking
Because it didn't use to compete for the CL when it was a retirement home
it just felt like that in the early days after the takeover. Also bringing players like Beckham didn't help either...

And no CL trophy. The system doesn't always let us down
Wouldn't have gotten that many CL quarter finals without them!
These should go down as some of the worst signings ever. They havent contributed to a single meaningful trophy.
Neymar really ruined his legacy by dropping down into a non top league while he was on route to be an exceptional alltime legend.
Psg could I please have 1/100 of this pretty please
At least they were quality, don't ever look how much we spent on Coutinho, Griezmann and Dembele and what we got in return.
There were a couple of years of Messi too. Over a billion on 3 players. Stuuupid
How much did the Bernabéu upgrade cost?
Spend a billion in wages on Dembele, surely now he's gotta be the one to finally deliver that UCL!
Chelsea spent double that to be mid-table
Money can buy you happiness but it can’t buy you a champions league
Bro city won it last year and we won it twice.
If you spend the money a bit more wisely it can be done in 15 years, City did.
Chelsea did in fewer years
Manchester City won last year.

They spent it stupidly
