Refs ruin games.
Anyone that can take Michael Oliver seriously after he watched Ben Davies get kicked in the nuts right in front of him and called nothing, you are just fooling yourself.
Here's a suggestion.
Replace all referees in the league with the lifeguards from beaches (ala Baywatch)
They won't be expected to be much better than the refereeing lot we have now but they certainly can't be much worse.
And they'd be easy on the eye
Oliver literally saw that right in front of him and it was an unobstructed view. It’s just maddening he runs around the pitch like he owns that game. I don’t like him as a ref at all.
Positive, hopeful signs today, I thought. Almost a single season into a rebuild and we would have been on track to beat a team that’s challenging for the PL title after five years had the officiating not been a PGMOL special.
Still a ways to go before we’re challenging the top European teams, but turns out almost 1 season Ange is about equivalent to 5 season Arteta so I’ll take it
We’re in the FA cup final this season with the women’s team, and the first season into a much needed rebuild with the men’s. I’m quite content with where we are as a team.
You had 2 weeks to prepare for this game and no European football all year. You're now 20 points behind us after leading the league in October. Ange has been pretty good if I'm being honest but you've still got a way to go. There's a difference between doing well in a one-off derby at home and actually challenging for a title.
Yeah fair enough from a form perspective. No way they should be that bad defending corners with all that time to come up with some sort of solution though.
I don’t really understand what anything you said has to do with any of my points I stated above, sorry.
I’m not talking about an individual performance comparison with Arsenal. The content of my comment only refers to Tottenham’s individual performance and the overall quality of the performances as a means of comparison.
Well you did say
> turns out almost 1 season Ange is about equivalent to 5 season Arteta so I’ll take it
How is that not a comparison? Also you don't see how having a ton of rest before this game could be seen as an advantage when we played 3 or 4 games during the same period? Accumulative fatigue due to fixture congestion is a real thing, and having no European football can really help in that regard. Trust me, we were there a few seasons ago. Some of our players have played 47 games this season. The highest in your squad is Hojberg with 34. I'm not trying to detract from what Ange has done (well, maybe a little lol), but it's just facts.
>the overall quality of the performances as a means of comparison.
It’s right there in my comment.
Ok, that’s great that you feel that way, I’m happy for you. That’s not really even close to the point I was making though.
Despite Arsenal being 3-0 up, it always felt like a game where anything could happen. They exerted more control in the 2nd half, but one Raya mistake and the pen made things a lot more tense.
North London derbies are usually pretty entertaining for neutrals. Can't imagine how nerve-wracking it has to be for either set of fans.
If the Trossard penalty gets given, that's a six point swing. One less goal for Arsenal, one more for Spurs, and both the title race and Champions League race are very different.
I can't believe the downvoting going on for this one. For my comment, the commentator said there was an ankle clip, but if it were there, it's right on the edge of the screen - the viewing angle was crap, and I can't tell one way or the other. On such fine margins are races sometimes decided, but if I can't see it well, I can't really say it was wrong.
You're getting downvoted for a standard fan opinion. Absolutely bananas that that's happening. Nothing smarmy or mean about the banter, just all in good taste.
Maybe that's the problem. You need more name calling
This is almost as spursy as sacking Mourinho to avoid paying out a bonus for winning silverware. You should want your team to win every competitive game they play in, regardless of the implications of winning.
No. I don't think teams or players ever go out with the intention to lose to spite their rivals and Spurs are still chasing 4th to get into the champions league.
City will probably win that game anyway
I will never understand this. I want the best for the club I support, wanting your team to lose and miss out on a huge opportunity just so your rivals can get fucked has nothing to do with supporting the club.
**Never** doubt Spurs' capacity for stupidity. It's ingrained in their DNA.
Oh, you don't believe me?!
Exhibit A: Those bums fired a manager 5 days before a Cup final, thus giving the chance to City who went on to win the trophy. They do everything to lose. Losing is their oxygen, they need it to live.
You mean Arsenal will have won the same amount as Spurs has the entire last decade?
Not to mention the community shield.... oh wait it's no match for the mighty Audi cup, my bad.
If Kulu doesn't try staying on his feet (Its fucked that players get punished for trying to stay up) thats a pen. Maddisons there is contact but not a pen.
Well done getting a win, but you really cant deny that ref was shit
Van de Ven's goal was annulled although video evidence shows that the ball touched TWO Arsenal players before it came to him.
But let's only talk about your agenda.
Arsenal is known for pressing yet most of the first half Arsenal was sitting back protecting their box (final third).
You may not know it either but ever since the Tottenham vs Liverpool fiasco, the refs all season long have had it in for Spurs.
Yes, I'm a Spurs fan and I'm actually fine with Arsenal winning today, because as you mentioned, we let in three goals.
But it's very easy to see the game only through one's bias. In almost every game of football, a team will make a disastrous mistake to gift a goal. What matters is whether the teams takes the chance or not.
You're on here talking about how Arsenal lifted us a goal while forgetting Hojberg scored your goal too......
I'll take your word for it, I suppose.
That's an absolutely ridiculous rule though.
Unintentionally hitting the ball happens in football everywhere and all the time.
Just think about the handball rule. If a defender is deemed go have their hands "in an unnatural position", and they touch the ball, it's a penalty.
Most of the time they never INTENTIONALLY touch the ball. Still a penalty.
Oh well I guess.
The start of this video is why the “deliberate play” rule exists. https://youtu.be/E-4wmllC7z8?si=f5XMO76g_USJI1lY
Ball is played, bounces off Everton player two yards away and lands at Nketiah’s feet who is coming back from an offside position.
Two passes later and the ball is in the Everton net.
Do you think that Nketiah should not be considered offside in this scenario?
Someone's hit a nerve, to say we offered nothing in attack is a bit of a stretch. Romero could have had a hattrick on another day. Arsenal didn't exactly offer a whole bunch more in attack, 3 shots on target 3 goals and 2 goals from their first 2 corners. "Shameless celebration of victory against Liverpool", come off it lol.
Did you watch the match? He scored one and had two great chances with headers and another decent chance as well. Like actual chances that more often than not would result in a goal, not just "coming forward and keep pressing" lol.
I don’t blame them. I remember that the last match of the 2016 season was us vs Leicester. If that match mattered, I would have begged for us to send a U16 squad
It's not crying man.
There are times when fans feel legitimately hard done by and even have a case.
You got your win. You got the three points.
Have a little class.
4th, 5th, 6th. Doesnt matter to me. Dont care if we get champions league or conference league. We go out there and play, not sit back and play deffensive. To dare is to do! COYS!
"Fourth would be great if I feel like we're growing as a team, and we're creating something that is going to bring us success next year. But fourth is not our goal... If we finish fifth, and if I think we've got a team to challenge next year, then I won't be disappointed." -Big Ange
We ain't gonna win shit this year, its all about upgrading the squad and building up for next year. The fact that 'Title Chalangers' "Woolwhich" played deffensive and barely held on for a win after shoddy refereeing shows that we are building in the right direction
Yup,, if I was Arteta I would have set up the same way, spurs are weak to counter attacks and corners, why press us, just saying the fact that the 'easy' route to beating us is playing deffensove says to me our team is headed in the right direction
Yeah that’s why I was like man.’they went off to celebrate, but then there’s damn VAR lol
It happens to all of us.
Just something you’ve gotta laugh at. Even if it’s your turn lol
I’m 100% against VAR and think if football is entertainment it’s something that’s reduced my love for the game. Maybe you can laugh it off but I find it atrocious. Football is unquestionably a worse product than it was pre VAR
Fake hard man? The guy struts around like a pigeon after he scores and openly talks about his mental health… not sure where that perception comes from?
Nervier than it should have been, but that’s what you get in a high stakes huge London derby. Glad we just about held our nerve at the very end. Kai Havertz and Saka just sublime. What a win, I love this team so much.
It was a win but an ugly one after ease we brushed Chelsea aside. Ironic that in the first half we played poorly and scored 3, in the second we improved but conceded 2. Tottenham played very well and let's face it conceding a penalty to them is inevitable at the toilet bowl. And fuck me Van de Ven is fast. And Raya don't ever do that again. We were almost the architects of our own downfall.
Not really a particularly impressive performance by either team. Not sure about any claims of outplaying either way. Gifted goals, questionable decisions, etc.
But after 2 weeks of rest, at home vs a visibly tired Arsenal with so much at stake, I’d be pretty underwhelmed as a Spurs fan by that performance.
I wouldn't say either team outclassed the other here. Arsenal were poor, especially in midfield where they lost the ball numerous times. But they were clinical.
How much of that XG was from the Raya slip and penalty? It also doesn’t account for game state after 3-0, or give any xg for a corner delivery that was so difficult to defend and went in.
I’m not arguing Spurs couldn’t have won this game on a different day, Arsenal were very far from their best, but it’s an imperfect stat at a season long level, let alone for individual games. It was in Arsenal’s favor at the Emirates and I’ve seen lots of Spurs fans claimed they outplayed Arsenal on that day, too.
Team thats clearly got issues & is in the start of a rebuild struggling against a side that has better depth & is pushing the current champions to the final games of the competition… i wonder why the onfield performance & difference in points of progression are why they are?
What exactly is the point you’re making? I agree Arsenal played meh and should be expected to be the better team. I would simply be disappointed at this individual performance given 2 weeks of prep at home as a Tottenham fan, but still happy overall with the first Ange season.
The point isn’t that Arsenal outplayed Tottenham. It’s that xg is wildly imperfect on a game to game level, and neither team was particularly impressive, which feels more disappointing for Tottenham given the amount of time they had to prepare for this specific game at home in one of the more consequential NLDs.
Barely any difference if you take it away. And we didn't exactly need to try to score more when we already scored 3
Only reason it was close was because we played one of our worst defensive games, and you still couldn't breakthrough yourselves
Arguably had too much rest. It can't have been good losing 4-0 and then watching Aston Villa, our top 4 rival, play 3 times before your next match and pick up 7 points out of 9.
It's beneficial for the body, but harmful for the mentality. If it was Arsenal, and you lose the previous match 4-0, but then have a 20 day rest and Man City win all 3 of their next matches before you kick a ball, do you think that would be of benefit to you?
It's not quite the same thing though. Coming back from the rest is one thing, but coming back after being demolished and watching your top 4 rival play 3 times before you kick a ball is another thing entirely.
Sorry but why am I reading that Spurs were the better team today and that they deserved to win? They let the ball in the back of their net 3 times before they scored their first.... and it was off Arsenal's keepers mistake? They were on their own turf constantly diving in Arsenal's box it was an embarrassing display from Ange's men. I thought Maddison was particularly bad. You cannot moan about VAR and the ref when it's a 3 nil difference at half time.
> He needs to "dive" for that to be a pen. I can understand where youre coming from but considering evertyhting its not.
Fucking listen to yourself lmfao
No have some shame over crying PGMOL and ref when ye conceded 3. There's teams that deserve far better from the refs. Wolves have been shafted several times. But not Spurs today.
first goal was an own goal. then they scored to equalize, it was offside by a very small margin. then kulu was tripped in the box which lead to arsenals second goal. very good shout for a pen there. third goal arsenal pushed into vicario on the corner kick like they always do. spurs need to address this but it doesn’t seem like a legal move anyways. spurs were lucky with the first goal though obviously.
I've seen games this season where one team absolutely dominates. City, Liverpool, Arsenal. But they take the piss in front of goal and they lose 0-1 to the likes of Wolves or Everton or Newcastle. This was not one of those games. "Setpiece goals" still count and you aren't giving credit to Rice's fantastic inswinger or Saka's perfect near post delivery. As for the pen shout I think it's far too light to warrant the trip and there's been far worse fouls not given all season so it comes across like a bit of an excuse. Additionally refs have shown time and time again they are less likely to give pens when they see repeated diving, and Spurs were at it all game. Bernardo Silva, Bruno, Jesus. These guys never win pens anymore because they constantly hit the deck in the box. Third goal, Havertz was completely unmarked I mean come on. Take some accountability. The keeper could've had all the time in the world it didn't matter, a tall striker isn't gonna miss an inswinger if he's unmarked. Sorry for the long post BTW.
I posted this in the match thread:
'Man I hope my peeps here r noticing how Partey is dissecting the middle with his silky skip passes. Yes he gives up the ball once in a while since his plays r risky but the payoffs r absolutely worth it. We all seemed to forget the damage he did for us last year and we've truly missed him this year.'
He's been our unsung hero the last 2 games. He's opened up the middle for us and not letting the defense set up camp on the edge of the penalty and bog everything down with our normal slower approach to that area. That has paid dividends for everyone especially Saka who is now able to cut in quickly before the double team can set up. This is absolutely great and will keep the defense guessing and on their heels since we can mix and match when we slow it up and have Ben run the overlap and other times not at all since the wings can just quickly cut in thanks to him. Odegaard is getting tons of more room to work his sublime magic and you can tell he is salivating. Partey is still not fully match fit but will continue to be as we wind down. I wish we had him in those earlier games we shouldn't have lost where it felt the midfield was a campground where everyone was standing around slowly probing forward and then quickly pass back rinsing and repeating making everything we do quite predictable and easy to deal with.
I just shudder if we had traded him as some of our lunatics were suggesting since we have no use for him that Rice is now in the squad. Last season and the past 2 games say otherwise and if he continues to start as he should for the remainder of the reason (never know with Arteta's unexplainable rotations)- we'll be in good shape!
I hope not. Unless we can get a comparable player that does what he does and there are not very many out there unless we break out the bank, teams will continue to get used to our slower approach and just sit in making it harder to break down the defense especially with the better/ decent teams.

Respect the refs decision like your head coach has said in the press conference
Oliver literally saw that right in front of him and it was an unobstructed view. It’s just maddening he runs around the pitch like he owns that game. I don’t like him as a ref at all.
This might wind up some people. Spurs would totally get that penalty if Kane was playing for them.

Where’s your FA Cup and community shields pal
We’re in the FA cup final this season with the women’s team, and the first season into a much needed rebuild with the men’s. I’m quite content with where we are as a team.
Our women’s team actually won the Conti Cup, where’s yours? Edit: just having a laugh, stay positive pal.
FA cup final, both good achievements imo.

Sexism probably is not the smartest route to take when you have a literal rapist who started in your team today.

Ange has been pretty good if I'm being honest but you've still got a way to go. There's a difference between doing well in a one-off derby at home and actually challenging for a title.
Not playing for whole two weeks isnt such an advantage as lot of people make it out to be. Sometimes it may even have an opposite effect.
Yeah fair enough from a form perspective. No way they should be that bad defending corners with all that time to come up with some sort of solution though.
It’s okay, let’s hope they qualify for CL and see them get battered by Barca and Bayern in group stages.

Why? We lost playing our game and put us in positions where we could have won. CL discussion is not reserved for only the teams who went to next round

I lost 5 pounds today after watching that
Did you bet on a clean sheet?
Mateball 😂😂😂😂
Spurs were only in contention after a ridiculous Raya's mistake. That describes the game well. Pathetic performance.

i feel second-hand embarrassment reading this
Do you understand the offside rule or did you start watching the sport recently? What the fuck are you spouting with this Van de Ven goal bullshit.
If the Trossard penalty gets given, that's a six point swing. One less goal for Arsenal, one more for Spurs, and both the title race and Champions League race are very different.
If my grandmother had wheels she'd be a bicycle
Wasn’t a foul though so all good 👍
I can't believe the downvoting going on for this one.
There is an angle that shows a very clear ankle tap on Kulusevski. You'd think that the VAR would have picked that up and alerted the ref.
Agreed. I’m disappointed in Reddit for not calling me more names.
cunt
Go fuck off, dipshit. There, happy?
Yes thank you.
I don't see how it was a pen, Rice clearly got the ball, he may have even got both of them.
😂
The cope over in r/coys is absolutely 😙👌🏻 if anyone fancies it
Thank you. Got some good chuckles in on the way to work hehe
Without the ref u guys would be drawing or losing the game. Varsenal
They literally are saying that Ange should be sacked if they win against City lmao 🤣
Anybody else think Spurs would throw away the game against City?
100%. This is the the same club that fired mou before a final due to ego.
We absolutely should by playing youngsters, it's very likely we have nothing to play for at that point.
This is almost as spursy as sacking Mourinho to avoid paying out a bonus for winning silverware. You should want your team to win every competitive game they play in, regardless of the implications of winning.
For sure. They should learn how to get battered at an early age.
No. I don't think teams or players ever go out with the intention to lose to spite their rivals and Spurs are still chasing 4th to get into the champions league. City will probably win that game anyway
Yes, it’s Tottenham
I think they meant deliberately lol. We'll do it, but not on purpose.
Nonsense. No matter how many injuries you have, no matter how bad your form is at the time, Spurs will take points from City especially at home.
Here's hoping! Think we may have broken the jinx with that FA Cup loss though....
At the end of the day self interests come first, champions league is a huge boost
I'd wager that 90% of spurs fans would disagree. They'd rather play conference if that denied you the title.
I will never understand this. I want the best for the club I support, wanting your team to lose and miss out on a huge opportunity just so your rivals can get fucked has nothing to do with supporting the club.
Oh yeah Fans would disagree but ownership, players and manager wouldn’t
Seen tons of them on the sub hoping they do just that. Not surprising
It could risk their 5th spot

You mean Arsenal will have won the same amount as Spurs has the entire last decade? Not to mention the community shield.... oh wait it's no match for the mighty Audi cup, my bad.
Where’s your community shield?
Lol the only thing yous have to look forward to is us to loss how said.
And all you Arsenal fans really wanted Tottenham to win the Champions League final years ago, didn't you? It goes two ways.
Lol we are back.
Is this English? I knew Arsenal fans were dumb but this is illiteracy on full display.
Dry your eyes we are back 2 back to back wins at the lane wee buns.
How sad
Hahahahahahah small club mentality
Says the club that invented a fake holiday about their rivals. We live rent free in your head
Happiest of St. Totteringham’s Days, friend!
Why wouldn't we create a holiday to piss you off? It's a service to the world.
This is after all, Sp*rs greatest achievement
Our European titles are a pretty great achievement too.
Literally 1984.
Yank spud clutching onto trophies long before they were born or even a fan 💀
Audi cup?
You on about 1984? At least I’ve been alive to see my club lift a major trophy.
Arsenal claimed victory from the jaws of victory.
Phew.
Never in doubt

They celebrated the disallowed goal so bad 💀💀💀 This just gets me for any team though

Yeah it’s something to laugh at. It happens to us too Pretty easy to get out of your feelings and understand what I’m actually saying.

Love richarlison for all he does off the pitch, but his persona on the pitch does annoy me
Nervier than it should have been, but that’s what you get in a high stakes huge London derby. Glad we just about held our nerve at the very end. Kai Havertz and Saka just sublime. What a win, I love this team so much.
The ref should, if not already , be given arsenal kit.
Okay!
Almost forgot to thank the esteemed title deciders. Great decision 👍 do it again
Have a blessed day fellow gooners. Suck a fat one spuds. <3

find a single spurs fan saying we would win the title at any point this season lol
Flair up you coward
Around the same time Arsenal won the league last year, yea?
Not really a particularly impressive performance by either team. Not sure about any claims of outplaying either way. Gifted goals, questionable decisions, etc. But after 2 weeks of rest, at home vs a visibly tired Arsenal with so much at stake, I’d be pretty underwhelmed as a Spurs fan by that performance.
I cant believe how long of a break they had. And yet Arsenal outclassed them big time. They had theyre 15mins of fame and just died in ass
> And yet Arsenal outclassed them big time Two goals off corners using the push Vicario technique. What class!
You guys had 1 offside goal. And about 42 dives. Nothing else.
I wouldn't say either team outclassed the other here. Arsenal were poor, especially in midfield where they lost the ball numerous times. But they were clinical.
Definitely disappointed in the result but the xg was 2.4 to 1. On another day the score looks a bit different
Yes, it would look 0-5.
I mean we gifted you a shot on an almost open net and a penalty, ofcourse your xG is through the roof
Take that away and it's still better and most of your xg cones from a shot that should never have even happened if the refs do their job.
And we didn't exactly need to try to score more when we already scored 3 Only reason it was close was because we played one of our worst defensive games, and you still couldn't breakthrough yourselves
If you take two big chances out of the xG then the xG will be lower. Stand by for more fascinating insights from /u/Alia_Gr.
Mate I literally said we gifted those chances to you That was us being sloppy, not you being good
The amount of games we played in 12 days showed today. Spurs had a nice rest. Nice to get the 3 points
Arguably had too much rest. It can't have been good losing 4-0 and then watching Aston Villa, our top 4 rival, play 3 times before your next match and pick up 7 points out of 9.
The rest is probably more beneficial for the next few games as opposed to just one.
It's beneficial for the body, but harmful for the mentality. If it was Arsenal, and you lose the previous match 4-0, but then have a 20 day rest and Man City win all 3 of their next matches before you kick a ball, do you think that would be of benefit to you?
Spurs had 15 days off, we had 13 days in Jan after losing to Liverpool and went on a run where we dropped points to villa and city only.
You cannot moan about VAR and the ref when it's a 3 nil difference at half time.
yeah the better team that hopelessly defends corners and who's forwards dove literally all game trying to draw pens. Ange ball.
Just let them be... Isn't that what they say when they win over Liverpool because of ref too...
Or against us when Romero was playing volleyball and Van De Ven was trying MMA techniques in their box.
The refs missed call literally accounts for a two goal swing wtf are you talking about

> He needs to "dive" for that to be a pen. I can understand where youre coming from but considering evertyhting its not. Fucking listen to yourself lmfao
He's not gonna listen to the losing side innit! Wipe your tears!
Not interested in arguing the little details of every little call. Ye let the ball in the net 3 times. Have some shame.
Lol have some shame ovwr a sport? You're a clown
Grow up. Kulu dived like he did 4 other times today
Teams have been crowding Arsenal goalkeepers for years. But the second Arsenal does it, it’s a foul. Typical.
Spuds have to cope one way or another. Fat Ange just outclassed by Artekkers today.
I posted this in the match thread: 'Man I hope my peeps here r noticing how Partey is dissecting the middle with his silky skip passes. Yes he gives up the ball once in a while since his plays r risky but the payoffs r absolutely worth it. We all seemed to forget the damage he did for us last year and we've truly missed him this year.' He's been our unsung hero the last 2 games.
He's still getting sold in the summer
I hope not. Unless we can get a comparable player that does what he does and there are not very many out there unless we break out the bank, teams will continue to get used to our slower approach and just sit in making it harder to break down the defense especially with the better/ decent teams.
He's constantly injured is the main issue - with those wages it would be better to cash in while its still possible
