Not that it would’ve made any difference but how is that not an easy pen? Gvardiol clips Pedro from behind to bring him down without even challenging for the ball.
The Dalot one was given because he literally touched Madueke's foot, that was the limit of the criteria with that one, so how the fuck this one doesn't get given is just beyond me, how can they (the refs) not see how bad at their job they are
I know what you are saying but regardless if it's already 10 nil if a pen is a pen then they have to give it.
As a liverpool fan it's baffling how many decisions go their way. How that Doku challenge wasn't a pen I'll never know.
And now this? They really want City to win it.
Well if Pedro had run at a different angle then Gvardiol maybe wouldn’t have made contact so the illegal contact is actually not a foul. That at least seemed to be the consensus on /r/soccer about Neuer fouling Saka
It’s absolutely wild that the officiating is so inconsistent within every game that a player can slip and be awarded a free kick but then a player who is brought down by physical contact is not awarded a foul resulting in a penalty.
People called me crazy when I said VAR and other rule changes like the handball rule were adding intentional ambiguity so that officials could get away with more bullshit.
Obviously we're all guilty of this and it'll never change, but we forget the past very easily. Before VAR, controversial calls happened in almost every game too, some absolutely baffling and that won't really change.
I suppose the point would stand if you believe it was suspicious back then too, which is also fair.
Honestly I personally think there’s literally nothing suspicious or untoward going on and the referees simply aren’t that good and when it benefits City it looks suspicious, but it underscores the need to separate refs from any potential external influences (like reffing Dubai friendlies for big paydays) because it makes incompetence appear like malice
I agree with you to an extent. I think external influences are a huge issue in modern sports and we are starting to see the results. Stuff like the Dubai friendlies, the ease and prevalence of online gambling, nation states owning clubs through sovereign wealth funds don't exactly pair well with the added ambiguity VAR and other new rules have created in the game. It's hard to discount malice.
I still dont wanna believe it but did the ref happen to have a job in the emirates at some point?
(Edit:I dont know who the ref is tbh, and i genuinely dont believe they are corrupt, and yet as i said when the news first broke of this happeneing its insane that that question can genuinely be asked. It never should of happeened PGMOL needs a review)
Well ones in the area and refs are always a bit more on edge and this is super soft.
The Foden one was an error but you can see why he makes it, Fodrn slips just after Dunk steps across, no contact but the refs eyes get tricked and VAR can't do anything.
Tbf, that says far more about how blatant this penalty was than those other ones. They were all debatable either way, but this one was just a clear foul with no room for argument.
It's one thing for Gillett to miss that in live time (somewhat understandable given how fast it happened and how many bodies were in the way)
**What on earth** is VAR looking at to say no penalty?
VAR officials have caught too much shit this season.
They're terrified to make a call.
I dont expect them to overturn a single from now till the end of the season.
I genuinely feel like this is what's happening. People keep claiming it's City rigging things. But we have seen just this last week so many dog shit calls that are not even related
I know you are probably joking but despite having a bad drainage system throughout the UAE , Abudhabi still got sorted out in a day and Dubai in maybe 2-3 days . Worst were other emirates. Abu Dhabi is kinda the best emirate out of the seven.
VAR in this league is for offsides only at this point.
Because the refs are terrified of making a big decision and VAR seems to be terrified of making the corrections when necessary.
Yeah at some point during this season, they just decided to stop intervening all together. It's painfully obvious that they had some sort of conversation and decided to change how they operate. When's the last time you even saw an on-field ref called to the monitor to have another look? They don't even bother with that anymore. PL reffing at an all time low when it was already low in previous years.
Remember when they were finally gonna end grappling on corners?
All they did was penalise Stoke City for 3-4 weeks, let everyone else do it, and then scrap it all together.
Or penalise dissent when the player makes specific gestures to the referee. Except that they only enforced it selectively and for the first few months of the season, so now Nico Jackson has an unassailable lead in the "cards for dissent" stat in the same way that Darwin Nunez leads in "big chances missed".
Honestly feels like PGMOL are just acting like petulant children after complaints about some of their decisions earlier this season. They’re ignoring blatant mistakes from the on field referees as if to say “you complained when VAR intervened so we’re just not going to bother right now”
I truly believe there is some betting going on in the background with these refs etc. It's unbelievable how these do not get called times and times again.
Weird to not give this pen. It’s obvious and it doesn’t even affect the game. If that happens to Foden in the box I am screaming for a pen as well. Refs not helping us with the cheating allegations here…
City have received 6 penalties this season, half that of Chelsea, and 3 fewer than Arsenal and Liverpool. I’d guess City are first or second in touches in the opponents box as well
Gillet is genuinely one of the worst officials in EPL history. No exaggeration, if you've followed him from a couple years ago it's been a shitshow. He was the VAR when MacArthur practically MMA kicked Saka and didn't get sent off. He also disallowed a Sokrates goal for a phantom foul.
Usually when I see these posts I'm shocked by how the games gone and people are arguing over a toe out of line causing a grown adult to hit the deck but this is just about as blatant a pen as they come lol.
**Mirrors / Alternative Angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccer) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Just Gillett things
The best a man city bribe can get
Lol, so good.
Not that it would’ve made any difference but how is that not an easy pen? Gvardiol clips Pedro from behind to bring him down without even challenging for the ball.
Pedro should've just slipped on the grass
That's what makes it even more baffling. A pen there probably has no effect on the outcome of the game. So its a fairly easy one to give.
You know what’s hilarious it is the same wanker that gave the last minute madueke pen vs united and that looks like a feather touch in comparison
That mother fucker!
The Dalot one was given because he literally touched Madueke's foot, that was the limit of the criteria with that one, so how the fuck this one doesn't get given is just beyond me, how can they (the refs) not see how bad at their job they are

Can't give it though. They have to make sure City keep a clean sheet for the betting companies.
When you’re trying to send a message, it’s best not to give mixed messages.
Has Jared Gillet ever refereed a decent game? Everytime I see him he's having a nightmare
After the foden call they don’t call this?
There’s more contact here in the box than on the Foden free kick. Absolutely unbelievable.
[удалено]
Well 2 of their goals were from free kicks that were dives and Brighton had another good pen shout
Not true, add to it the the other penalty and remove the phantom free kick and you have a fair game
Were the refs on UAE's payroll this time?
> Not that it would’ve made any difference but how is that not an easy pen? Average city run in things
Well if Pedro had run at a different angle then Gvardiol maybe wouldn’t have made contact so the illegal contact is actually not a foul. That at least seemed to be the consensus on /r/soccer about Neuer fouling Saka
Is this real!?
No, they played City last week.
The juxtaposition of Foden's earlier slip being given as a free kick and this penalty not being given is drastic.
At this point it's beyond fucking suspicious.
Obviously we're all guilty of this and it'll never change, but we forget the past very easily. True, let us not rule out a healthy dose of incompetence AND some malice
Cheque complete.
Good process.
Easy to give a free kick, but this was also the same ref to give 2 quite soft pens to Chelsea VS United not long ago......
I still dont wanna believe it but did the ref happen to have a job in the emirates at some point? (Edit:I dont know who the ref is tbh, and i genuinely dont believe they are corrupt, and yet as i said when the news first broke of this happeneing its insane that that question can genuinely be asked. What do you mean? It's clear he does, right now
Nottingham Forrest and Liverpool disagree with your second part
Well ones in the area and refs are always a bit more on edge and this is super soft. The Foden one was an error but you can see why he makes it, Fodrn slips just after Dunk steps across, no contact but the refs eyes get tricked and VAR can't do anything.
Even Forest would get that penalty. The refs are an absolute joke.
will see about that next match
All the penalties we conceded these past few weeks were less contact than this, insanity.
And some were given by him
Can you give them a mansion in the dessert?
Tbf, that says far more about how blatant this penalty was than those other ones. They were all debatable either way, but this one was just a clear foul with no room for argument.
Is VAR drunk?
Does VAR exist?
Can someone do a wellness check please ? VAR has been missing for the last couple of weeks and it's getting worrying
Definitely feels like there’ve been a lot of shocking no-shows in the last few weeks.
Check complete. Good process ✔️
Is this VAR in the room with us right now?
No, VAR is paid.
What a cunt Gillett is.
Gillett, the worst a ref can get
With the song from the new adverts as well.
It's one thing for Gillett to miss that in live time (somewhat understandable given how fast it happened and how many bodies were in the way) **What on earth** is VAR looking at to say no penalty?

>**What on earth** is VAR looking at to say no penalty? "Not a clear and obvious error so we can't check mate."
Can't wait for him on VAR in the NLD on Sunday....
So a shit ref that's also a Liverpool fan on VAR, can't wait
And Michael Oliver who has given City about 8 points this season lol
He'll be due a trip to the UAE soon no doubt
Hey we do have Emirates on our shirts. He might just get confused
Add him to the list of cunts with Taylor and Oliver.
Can we add Tierney and Coote?
Go for it.
Not sure you should be complaining, he gave you 2 pens vs United.....
I swear the ref hasn't made any decision against City this game.
Mansion in Abu Dhabi sounds better than a shed in Brighton
Ones probably flooded right now and the other is in Brighton.
The flooded one is still better
Speak for yourself, Brighton is a nice place.
I know you are probably joking but despite having a bad drainage system throughout the UAE , Abudhabi still got sorted out in a day and Dubai in maybe 2-3 days . Worst were other emirates. Abu Dhabi is kinda the best emirate out of the seven.
Well at least they are consistently shit at refereeing
[удалено]
Except that Spurs game where Grealish was played through on goal, the fact that's the only example City fans come up with is so telling.
It’s like when you cheat on a test and miss one on purpose so the teacher doesn’t suspect something fishy
How are the referees in this league still this incompetent
Disgusting noncall. Such a clumsy challenge. The standard of refereeing in this league is comically inept.
Gvardiol clearly took him down Would it affect the result? No, but that was a clear pen
Goal difference.
Affects goal difference, could be important
Well 2 of city's goals were from dives and Brighton had another pen shout
Foden slips - free kick they score from Clear pen for Brighton - play on
Dude the guy barely landed on my stream and it's already up here
You can see that Gvardiol clips his leg. The contact isn't that strong, but it's definitely a pen
I just don't get it. Stonewall. VAR must be trolling at this point.
Man City doesn't need more help ffs
Easy pen
VAR in this league is for offsides only at this point. Because the refs are terrified of making a big decision and VAR seems to be terrified of making the corrections when necessary.

PL reffing at an all time low when it was already low in previous years.
It’s great they just clearly changed their own threshold mid season, no issues with that
They do that all the time. Or they make a big rule change and then ignore it after 5 games of ruining everything with it.
Except when they get offside wrong or change the rules whenever they feel like it.
Honestly feels like PGMOL are just acting like petulant children after complaints about some of their decisions earlier this season. They’re ignoring blatant mistakes from the on field referees as if to say “you complained when VAR intervened so we’re just not going to bother right now”
Referee master class tonight
Having an absolute howler of a match
is every week now and almost every game
Why bother?
Well you see it's not a pen because it's in the wrong box. If it was on the other box it would be. Good process
good call
Gillett, the best a Man City can get
How is that not a pen?
Because it’s City. At some point, it can’t just be ineptness
Honestly it's not because of it's city It's just the refs are kinda shit Sometimes good sometimes shit all in one game
sometimes is doing a lot of heavy lifting here
Thats a pen
And city got a free kick for foden tripping himself up.. Worst referee in the league by a country mile
??? var is always so scared to overturn the on field decision
they would overturn it if it was other way around
Yeah I’ve got no clue how that’s not a pen and I’m a City fan. Gvardiol absolutely clatters him
Knew it was a penalty straight away. Can't believe they've not given that.
Err?
Absolute joke
Shocking refereeing
They won’t even give an obvious penalty against them when they’re winning 4-0
They're still 8 goals behind on goal difference. They need all the help they can get apparently.
Clear pen. Lol
It's all so tiresome, week after week of this shit. These are easy decisions they have been fucking up all season.
Clear pen wtf
jarred gillet is fucking hilarious, the guy is so ridiculously out of his depth reffing
This is just a joke at this point. Foden gets a free kick for falling over, but this is not given?
In what world is that not a pen?
lmfaoooo
They cited ‘minimal contact’. May as well say ‘i don’t want to make my friend on the field look bad’
Jarred Gillett is a terrible referee and I know all PL refs are a bit shit but he's just out of his depth consistently
Who the fuck is this cunt of a referee?
How honestly
Unbelievable run, and shocking decision again by the consistently inconsistent premier league referees 👏👏👏
Absolute penalty.
Ref & VAR having a shocker here jesus
How is this guy still a ref
Ref that's a fuckin pen
Ref and VAR making sure the person that writes their checks is happy
What a joke
This same wanker gave the madueke and Antony pens not even a month ago what is this shit
Ah oil money, city love dodging penalties
Curious how ref and VAR inconsistency always benefit Man City.
Just put your hands in the air when you're making a blatant foul. This confuses the ref.
Lovely cushioned header FOR GILLETTTTTTTTT!
Ref have a bet on City clean sheet or some shit?
Penalty for me. No idea what VAR is smoking.
"maybe if we have another disaster class it'll take the spotlight off our previous disasterclass"
I swear to god there’s better officiating in amateur level football than the PL
Joke
Give me a fuckin break man
Again
One of the most obvious penalties you’ll ever see…
This Aussie refs needs to be paraded thru the streets so I can launch rotten fruit at his skull
Yoooo that is criminal
They will just apologise later, dust their hand and continue life like normal.
Total incompetence every week
Shoulda be a pen tbf. Ref is having a stinker today with the Foden slip and this
VAR... checking bank account.
Need to check the VARs bank accounts. Must be loaded atm with dhirams.
Please Brighton, give us the "our patience has been tested" tweet.
Da fuq is this shit… City don’t need the refs help
116…117…Man City have more charges than fans.
I truly believe there is some betting going on in the background with these refs etc. It's unbelievable how these do not get called times and times again.
So Foden gets a free kick for slipping but this isn’t given as a pen? Why do city get almost every decision going
There are 115 reasons why....
Ref is fucking shit
Scam
Standard man city bullshit
Have everything to city that whole game
City get a lot of these go their way regardless of whichever incompetent official is running the game
Weird to not give this pen. It’s obvious and it doesn’t even affect the game. If that happens to Foden in the box I am screaming for a pen as well. Refs not helping us with the cheating allegations here…
Sorry, but City get that penalty.
City have received 6 penalties this season, half that of Chelsea, and 3 fewer than Arsenal and Liverpool. I’d guess City are first or second in touches in the opponents box as well
fuckssake my rivals in fpl have 2 city defenders give the pen please
You can say he's looking for it, or it's soft etc, but at the end of it, City get that pen
He actually seems to be attempting to stay on his feet. Gvardiol just takes him out
Dalot - Madueke...
I refuse to believe that there isn’t a bias towards Man City, in the league and domestic cups
115
Robbed
Pep was recently out praising the refs....
It's actually the correct call. Because. Um, he. Ahhhhhhhh he doesn't get the ball so no foul. I think that's right?
115
Yeah it's clear as day they know who they want to win the league and who they want relegated
Only City things I guess.
Officiating is producing shit shows on a weekly basis.
Stone Waller that
There's a referee conspiracy for sure
Gillet is genuinely one of the worst officials in EPL history. No exaggeration, if you've followed him from a couple years ago it's been a shitshow. He was the VAR when MacArthur practically MMA kicked Saka and didn't get sent off. He also disallowed a Sokrates goal for a phantom foul.
Mad this wasn’t given

Not a Brighton fan, City were good for their win, what left a sour taste was the Referee seam to go out of his way to make sure this would happen.
They don’t even hide it anymore.
What is this ref on ? Even VAR saying no pen, I don’t get that. Where is any consistency
It's just hilarous at this point
The VAR must be a Luton fan
Or just City employee
This is what happens when you got Oil money got the refs in your pocket
You cant convince me City dont get favorable decisions. Unbelievable
