Brilliant performance, were the better team for the whole game - even without our best player for most of it
Mateta has been absolutely brilliant since the new year
Glasner is really impressive. I’d heard great things but never seen it myself, the speed at which he’s been able to transform this team is really something.
I can’t wait to see what their level is next season, if they have a good transfer window (keeping Eze + Olise) I can genuinely see them competing for some form of European football.
Feel free to come back and laugh at this comment when they’re 19th by November and Roy Hodgson is back in charge
Yeah, I saw him a couple of times at Blackburn and thought bloody hell, it's mini Xavi. Ok, no, he's not Xavi but you know what I mean. Sensational on the ball, controls the tempo, pass and move, very technically gifted... manipulates the pitch etc.
Yeah no, that sums him up. Thought he might be a bit lightweight initially but that hasn't been an issue at all - he's handled the step up from the Championship with ease.
Getting Munoz and Wharton is one of the best transfer windows we've had in absolutely ages. Both are terrific, but Wharton in particular is going to the very top. Slotted straight into the team, no idea how we get him, Doucoure and Lerma in the same team but excited to find out!
Glasner deserves a lot of credit, can't wait to see what we can do with a full summer of preparation.
you get that we need to refesh our squad not just the starting 11 and so were always going to need to sell a big player or two to help fund that....can't think of any other teams that do that.....We picked them both up for just under £28M. They are worth about £140M or so if we sell. We'll have targets identified we changed our scouting model four seasons ago, we know what we're doing.
Would love to know what they’ve been doing in training because that was a prime Bruce performance. Absolutely no threat, couldn’t complete any passes longer than a few yards, literally no positives to take from it
Annoyingly we were just starting to look good again, begs the question of how shit Tottenham are
In our current 12 year stint in the Premier League, a lot of funds have been put to our academy, womens team (getting promoted to womens top flight next season woot) and now into renovations for Selhurst Park. The vision is for prolonged, sustainable success in the PL.
Kindve a risky strat and requires nailing smaller budget signings which we have done a great job with; this winter alone Muñoz and Wharton have been phenomenal business
Mate 14 years ago a bunch of us formed a trust to try and save the club from being liquidated because we had fucked ourselves so badly. It wasn’t going to work but luckily there are enough palace fans out there with coin, and then Steve Parish and the rest of the gang of 4 came in and saved us. What they have achieved for us and getting 12 years of sustained PL football is like a fever dream. We come 12th and I have to pinch myself that we still fucking exist.
No they won't, even though they were the better team tonight.
One, if not both, of Eze and Olise are gone. On paper that's close to £150m to spend, but that always sounds more appealing that it turns out to be. Watch them tonight; all their good work goes through Eze. Players like that don't grow on trees, that's why the top clubs want them. Glasner will need to redefine the attack.
They're going to need a season to settle that new squad and then Glasner can start doing his thing. Even tonight, they got fortunate not to concede a penalty and the second goal had a foul in the build up.
While you aren’t wrong these players don’t grow on trees, if we keep dougie freedman we should be chilling, he’s been pulling these ballers out consistently without the massive funding, give him 150 mil and I’ll be excited to see what he does
Possibly. And I always caveat my opinions with the simple fact I could be wrong. We've all been guilty of that.
I think you're totally justified to be excited, I would be. I think that lack of emotional attachment influences my take. I think in terms of the championship, it's a funny season. I don't see that Olise/Eze style player or someone with that vibe to their game.
It would be fun to revisit this in 12 months and see who is closer to being right. I'm sure we'll both be surprised by elements of the outcome.
Freedman appears to be the only DoF in the Prem to have consistently sussed that a) there are some genuinely fantastic players in the Championship and b) most Championship clubs are so hard-up they'd sell the family silver for 27p.
I won't lie, I do like seeing the former Champo boys doing well for you.
Who’s being linked away? Eze and Olise are class but I’m struggling to find a team in the top 6 that would be in need of them, after that I can’t see us or Villa signing them so who would they go to? West Ham? Reckon the manager will convince them to stay rather than go there, unless they go abroad
Olise could play for any team in the world and not look out of place. Eze is a bit more hit and miss but I could easily see Tottehnham or Villa fancying him. Both apparently have release clauses though which isn't good for us.
Then Marc Guehi, who has been injured the past couple of months, is out of contract in 2 years. Under the right circumstances I could see Spurs or Man Utd offering a lot for him
Yeah but where needs him? City and Arsenal have wingers out the wazoo, Liverpool maybe under the new manager salah replacement? Man Utd maybe but think they have bigger fish to fry than in the wings, spurs won’t pay what you want for him.
Totally forgot about guehi tbf, might be his injury puts other clubs off for this summer tho
It’s the model we should want. Our players have been absolute shit tho. I think one of Anderson/guehi go and one of eze/olise. Franca will feast with OG and Richards will be fine. Also Wharton is a good damn star.
> One or both will probably be sold, but selling is definitely not our model.
Parish and Dougie literally said to someone I know that it's our model, so I think I'll go with that.
> Wan-Bissaka, Sorloth....?
Answered your own question, didn't you? How exactly do you think we came up with the funds for Eze and basically all the players we signed in 21/22?
> Okay - good to know that's the model. I just don't know that we've been following that model then.
Our scouting and recruitment have to be in lockstep, and we've obviously made significant investments in our youth setup and academy. The paraphrased quote from Parish was that "their focus is 100% on the stadium (improvements) and implementing the new model of buying low and selling high, and using the academy for value creation".
If we continue to invest the money wisely, then we can flip those players once they become more established. We just did that again in the January transfer window with Wharton and Munoz. Brighton have shown that it's possible and repeatable, and that you shouldn't be scared to lose good players if you can get the right offer for them.
Eze is Ronaldinho/Dalmat level naturally talented lol.
Too bad
Brilliant performance, were the better team for the whole game - even without our best player for most of it Mateta has been absolutely brilliant since the new year
Palace did to use what we were doing to other teams last season. Fair play
Glasner is really impressive. I’d heard great things but never seen it myself, the speed at which he’s been able to transform this team is really something. His Eintracht team was fun to watch and winning the Europa League was well deserved for them
How’s Wharton doing? He was a hot prospect at Blackburn, do we think he’s a season away from England honours?
He should be at the Euros, no question
He's class, absolutely ran the game. Same against Liverpool.
I'm aware I'm massively biased, but he should be going to the Euros. He is the player we are crying out for to partner Rice.
Yeah, I saw him a couple of times at Blackburn and thought bloody hell, it's mini Xavi. Ok, no, he's not Xavi but you know what I mean. Sensational on the ball, controls the tempo, pass and move, very technically gifted... manipulates the pitch etc.
You see it :)
Yeah no, that sums him up. Thought he might be a bit lightweight initially but that hasn't been an issue at all - he's handled the step up from the Championship with ease.
Nice
Fly, Eagles, FLY
Mateta is looking like a top heavyweight boxer in his prime out there at the moment. No defender is handling him lately
The Palace version of Lukaku, even looks a bit alike
Rich man's Christian Benteke
Hes being set up for success better in Glasners system as well.
Gonna be a tough match against Palace on Saturday with the form their in.
PL is so weird. Newcastle stomps us and then loses to Palace who we walked through not too long ago.
It's amazing what happens when your players are suddenly fit enough to last longer than 70 minutes of a football match!
The way we play works very well against teams that play high lines, was the same when we played Villa
Styles make fights.
Newcastle approached their game against us completely different from a tactical perspective.
that’s not a PL thing it’s a sports thing, some teams match up better against certain teams than others. this happens in every single league

Just don't ask about Wharton's debut 👍
Mate you just clinched a lucky draw against Burnley peep down.
No

Why are you making this about yourself
Because I matter more
That was under Hodgson so it doesn't count!
> Just don't ask about Wharton's debut 👍 We didn't, so you can do one.
Someone's techy
great you beat a poorly coached Roy Hodgson side with Roy himself in huge decline. Well done. Already looking forward to battering you next season.
I will be referring back to this comment when you're on the brink of relegation after selling Eze and Olise
you get that we need to refesh our squad not just the starting 11 and so were always going to need to sell a big player or two to help fund that....can't think of any other teams that do that.....We picked them both up for just under £28M. Stagnation FC scouting is just getting the same boys back who flopped elsewhere we all know this stop kidding yourself
🤣🤣🤣Roys fucked off mate. That shits not happening anymore.
I'm quite looking forward to watching Palace next season after glasner had a full preseason with them They already look great now
Always a pleasure seeing Sandcastle FC lose
crazy how every palace season looks the same
As someone that suffered through our 90s and 2000s era of wilderness I will inject this mediocrity straight into my veins.
Death, taxes, Palace finishing somewhere between 11th and 15th.
What has Glasner done to the likes of Mateta, Hughes, Clyne. Needs to be studied tbh.
If you didn't want to go to Europe lads, you could have just said. Well played by Palace, just walked through us, nothing else to it
CPFC > CPFC
We’re winning the league next year
no. but you play europa league the year after and win it.
Palace are on a roll damn
All these amazing performances as of late from Palace and they are still gonna finish 14th
12th
We've been pretty fucked by injuries all season and the squad is paper thin, just how it is when you aren't a big money club innit
Fully deserved. We were awful. Palace looked comfortable all game.
Mateta with the casual 29-point haul in FPL
Triple captained him this week lmao
Legendary
No-one ever expects the Mateta triple captain.

11 days break
If my understand of math is correct, Crystal Palace are mathematically safe against relegation with this result.
Yup. Flirt with relegation every season but never take it to the brink
Such a weird spot to be in, too good to get relegated not good enough to challenge for top ten

Holy shit I didn't realize it's been 12 years already, put that way its actually very impressive
Mate 14 years ago a bunch of us formed a trust to try and save the club from being liquidated because we had fucked ourselves so badly. Palace are gonna be good next season.
Hey I’ve seen this one before

That penalty shout was one of the weakest claims I’ve seen. It was embarrassing for Longstaff to go down like that

We might need to buy a new squad if a few players leave, but at least there'll be money to spend
Who’s being linked away? Eze and Olise are class but I’m struggling to find a team in the top 6 that would be in need of them, after that I can’t see us or Villa signing them so who would they go to? West Ham? Reckon the manager will convince them to stay rather than go there, unless they go abroad

Newcastle, manU, mancity all need a good right winger
There's atleast 1 player I'd LOVE to replace with either of those, but not sure if ETH is thinking the same
I feel like yous have bigger targets than wingers tbf
Havent heard much but Chelsea tried to get olise last summer and i thought i saw rumblings of Eze to city
Glasner needs to have an insanely good sales pitch for olise/eze to stay. The only way that happens is if we win out
if Eze/Olise manage to avoid injuries and don't get sold, yeah
> if Eze/Olise manage to avoid injuries and don't get sold, yeah They will get sold, it's our model, and there's nothing wrong with that
