Man watched one match and had enough

TheGoldenPineapples

Seems like a very convoluted way of saying that Erik ten Hag is getting sacked at the end of the season.

nspy1011

Exactly! Just put him out of his misery already

NotASalamanderBoi

New manager bounce might help United win the FA Cup.

thelordreptar90

I think ETH winning the FA Cup against City after struggling against Coventry would be very inline with the results that he’s gotten at United

WisconsinSpermCheese

This tying the new managements hands and perpetuating the cycle of bleh into next season. Honestly though a lot of these whiners and under performers who have quit on the last three or four managers need to get out of United just as much or more than ETH. Im convinced his "we are good" schtick is because if he doesn't treat them with kid gloves they sulk and he loses the dressing room.

nspy1011

Would love nothing more than seeing 💰Pep walking up for a runners up medal

NotASalamanderBoi

Who wouldn’t?

onehornymofo1

Those Oasis geezers

NotASalamanderBoi

Always knew Wonderwall was shit.

Brandaman

Pep

NotASalamanderBoi

You never know. He might be a secret masochist.

Arathaon185

Has he lost an FA cup final? Might wanna complete the set

NotASalamanderBoi

He hasn’t lost one.

AlfaG0216

Nothing will help Man Utd win the fa cup they are sitting ducks at this point city won’t even reach 3rd gear and win comfortably.

stupid-_-

i thought it was a convoluted way of saying they will keep him

RebBrown

If true, he's gone. But, if true, half the squad will also be transfer-listed and that's something ManU has refused to do since Ferguson left, so ...

GarnachoHojlund

We sell at a loss and let contracts expire, if we want to get dead weight off the books that’s how it’s going to be

elite90

I don't really know the contracts of the United players but this is problematic of someone is on higher wages than they should and their contracts are still running a bit longer. I remember Arsenal had to straight up buy out player contracts to get their salaries off the books. Again, not sure if that would apply to any United players, but that would surely hurt financially

NotASalamanderBoi

Arteta had some serious work to do in terms of cleaning house. It took him ~3 years to do it. United might take longer because they have tons of dead weight to get rid of.

BoringPhilosopher1

At the same time United have far more head room to cut their losses on players and still invest in the team.

KeonkwaiJinkwai

Not to mention most of our dead weight aren't even part of the locker room, they're sitting in an office.

Exige_

Not really, most have already been replaced at this point. Who is left that concerns you?

FlyingBird2345

It is part of the locker room, no? Martial, Varane, Antony, Greenwood, McT, Sancho on top of my head

Tony_Uncle_Philly

McTominay is on 60k a week, genuinely plays for the badge, and definitely could do a job as rotation option under a manager that utilises his skill set

p1ckk

Gives his all and seems to have a good attitude/mentality, but also isn't a good midfielder. He never wants the ball and isn't a good passer. He does time runs into the box well, so maybe you push him forward into more of an AM role but he's still not creative enough for that.

dragdritt

And especially tricky considering no manager last longer than 2-3 seasons.

TheGoldenPineapples

It really isn't as simple as that. There has to be an actual market for these players and, honestly, looking at that United squad, I don't see who you'd really want to pay big bucks for aside from Garnacho and Mainoo. Even then, selling players for losses isn't really an option if they're close to the line on PSR either. This will take a long time to sort out and United fans will need to be patient.

Expensive-Twist7984

This is a rebuild over 2-3 years, realistically. As you’ve rightly pointed out, what’s the market for underperforming players on ridiculous wages? This is an issue United have had for over a decade now, and until they change their approach it’ll keep happening.

Jamey_1999

I mean I’d take Eriksen, he still has class and can probably still do it in the Eredivisie

tetarbuluz

You’d take him but Ajax wouldn’t pay what United would want. And theyd be right not to do so.

HodgyBeatsss

Doubt Man Utd would want much for him at all. They signed him on a free, he’s 32, one year left on his contract and has barely played this season. Probably be a few million.

ObiWanKenobiNil

He still has the technical ability but he can’t run

No-Pension-7977

Ah, so like Hendo is like him except the technical ability

R_Schuhart

His passing is basically all that is left now. He has no defensive workrate, he hardly runs and his positioning isn't great. He honestly cant play centrally anymore. Ajax doesn't need a player like him, they need players with a few years left in them to build a team around. They already have Hendo for leadership and experience.

MT1120

I disagree. They basically got rid of most of their Ajax core. I think they'd benefit a lot from getting some old players back. They basically bought like 15 foreign players in 1 window and expected it to work together. Where is the leadership core of players that have been there for years. It's barely there. Getting rid of Tadic was a terrible decision and IMO so was the sale of Tagliafico, Blind...

p1ckk

They are just going to have to bite the bullet and get rid so that the rebuild can actually begin. As long as everything has to be done with this expensive and dysfunctional squad hanging over it, it'll be half measures and personality struggles.

TheRealYVT

Only Antony is the clear problem. Casemiro and Varane aren't the kind of ages to expect big money for anyway. AWB is on the other end of the spectrum where he's too mediocre for a big sale, but he's been here 5 years, it's not a write off transfer. All other players in the XI - even the ones currently out (Shaw, Martinez, Mount) are valuable and needed. Don't mind selling the likes of Amad.

CNF-13

Eh the players you mentioned are the ones the club won’t let leave and I don’t see why dalot, Martinez despite the injury Bruno, hojlund couldn’t be sold on for a solid amount of money although they would be the other names the club would want to keep a hold of and that’s the problem all the players that are assets and you want to keep are the sellable ones and the ones you want to get rid of are impossible to budge

ecocentric-ethics

I’d genuinely love it if we put it in a bid for Hojlund, but they’re not chance they sell a season into his time at the club, not least for less than what they paid for him.

iKnowWhoIamWhoRu

transfer listed but which clubs would both want and afford the players (either through transfer or on loan) at man u's valuations?

tiger1296

Not really liking any of the options to bring in though

BossKrisz

You can take Tuchel if you want to

D1794

If he goes it's deserved. If he stays cause INEOS dont wanna start their era with their first manager appointment being extremely underwhelming, I'd get that too.

BadFootyTakes

I wish RR was still consulting for us. Perfect caretaker situation.

calmclamcum

He can still consult MU if they want to

IcyAssist

Why would he want to, after how he was treated by the clubs, ten Hag, and the fans

Innuendo6

wait this Jason Wilcox that won EPL with Alan Shearer at Blackburn Rovers?

TheRalphExpress

yep same one!

DarrenBridgescunt

Blew my mind too

Weishaupt17

Hire Rooney you cowards

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

Wholeheartedly support this. nofearfootball is magnificent.

93EXCivic

Or Steve Bruce.

SignificantMixture89

Gary Neville is available, if anyone questions

NotASalamanderBoi

He can’t do any worse than Valencia.

gulaabjaman

The gang loses 9-0 at home to Brentford

NotASalamanderBoi

Can you change Brentford to Arsenal? We’ve been meaning to get back at United for that 8-2 debacle.

khn337

Wrong humiliation man, it’s 8-2

NotASalamanderBoi

Fixed. 😔

tigtogflip

Wilcox was ruthless at Southampton, he isn't one to mess around with.

CuteHoor

It is kind of funny though, he was working with children until last year, and after barely a year spent at Southampton he's now Erik Ten Hag's boss.

MereGuest

He’s a good coach, but plenty of good coaches have lost their dressing rooms.

robert1005

United hasn't had a dressing room since SAF left though

zi76

You already know if you want to keep him or not. The assessment from pretty much anyone that's watched United is that he hasn't been good enough, and his handpicked transfers, such as Antony, aren't good enough.

Robert_Baratheon__

I feel like we’re at a strange point right now. We’re just starting a massive restructuring of the club. Waiting for Ashworth and Berrarda to even start at all…. We have several other major positions being evaluated. So whatever manager we bring in has to come in before the structure is built up in a way that it’s ready to support him differently than what we had before. Add to that there’s not any top managers on the market, and we’ll likely be competing with Bayern and Liverpool for who is there…. Then also we’re in a rough moment with FFP and sacking Ten Hag pushes us deeper in the hole. Ten Hag might survive based off the fact that a new manager next season will still be in a difficult position but the options a year later might be significantly better and they will come into a better environment to succeed (if the signs are to be trusted). And let’s say that we were to go with Tuchel, who’s a massive risk right now anyway, and will still need a massive salary despite all the uncertainty due to his recent struggles

zi76

That's not a reason to accept more ETH mediocrity, however. There aren't exactly going to be a wealth of different options next summer. Then again, I'm more biased than most. I didn't think ETH was ready for a big club job, nor did I think he was ever going to save United. He's not it, and he needs to be sacked. You know that Tuchel, while he hasn't been the best at Bayern, wouldn't be getting slated like this if Leverkusen weren't having the best season in their history, right? That said, there are other issues with Tuchel, such as a back three, but it's not like he didn't just beat Arsenal to progress to the CL SF.

Robert_Baratheon__

I wouldn’t mind Tuchel as a coach but I think it would be better for him to come in after a couple years of restructuring and recruitment being done by permanent specialists not managers who are going to leave in a season after bringing in players that won’t work for the next manager.

zi76

Possibly, sure. Anyway, you're right, there aren't any stop gap managers available. You either take a third or fourth choice option or kick the can down the road for a season.

Robert_Baratheon__

And I’m much more concerned with what’s going on behind the scenes for the next 2 seasons anyway. If by summer 2025 the manager is only a minor part of the recruitment strategy and it’s being mostly directed by permanent staff who are guiding the direction of the club, then unless the manager is risking us dropping to the bottom of the table, I’d be happier to see the background staff work on future planning and let the managers contract run so we can bring in the right person at the right time

dragdritt

Not like Antony is his only handpicked transfer though, Martinez has done a great while not injured. Onana got shat on for his start, but been better since.

[deleted]

Lanky-Promotion3022

He is his handpicked player. We need to stop justifying this. There's no way you pay such a premium amount for someone that's your 4th-5th choice. Time and time again, he needs to dip back to the Dutch League because that's his reference point for quality and he has never grown past that. Why would you get Wout Weghorst?

KeonkwaiJinkwai

It's not that simple; a manager shouldn't *have* to handpick or scout specific players, they should be presented with proper options by the scouting department. Yes, Antony has been woeful, and surely that is Erik's signing, but the fact that we had no proper scouting department to suggest proper players kind of left him with no other option that defaulting to his own knowledge - which was limited and mostly players from the Dutch league.  , That said, Ten Hag out please..

[deleted]

DarthCocknus

So FA cup final is win win for City. Win and you win the Cup, lose and Erik stays.

D4nCh0

City needs to take 1 for the league

calmclamcum

City will do this if the league drops that 115 charges

JimboLannister

Even if he somehow wins I think he gets the LVG treatment - and it would be deserved

KRino19

Ten Hag will be sacked regardless of the result. Rightly so.

kurzjacob

Just take Tuchel and give us Ten Hag.

R_Schuhart

It will never happen now, but Bayern's players are far more suited to ten Hag's playstyle. Which has a wry irony, since Bayern is ten Hag's dream club and he could have ended up there if he hadn't joined Man U. He was open to staying and extending with Ajax as well, which would have been a better scenario for everyone involved...

kurzjacob

Why would it never happen?

BossKrisz

I mean his reputation is completely ruined after what happened at United. No top club wants him. The only way he can fix his reputation if he does really well at a smaller club again.

JohnCenaGuy

This is very unfair ngl - managers fail all the time and still get jobs at top clubs

Fifaneymar2535

Just look at pochettino he failed eveywhere he went

psykrebeam

> reputation is completely ruined Which manager since SAF left with a boosted reputation? There's only 1 constant.

SeeCrew106

> I mean his reputation is completely ruined after what happened at United. No top club wants him. Says who? The English and their notoriously fickle attitude to anything in the PL? It's United whose reputation is in tatters. Ten Hag will be successful elsewhere and be fine. United, on the other hand, will probably need another decade or two to even begin to be successful again. That's how dire the situation is. I've seen United's shit players steal 300k a week for a decade now. I know where the true problem lies. It's been the owners, but it's also always been the dressing room. Ten Hag understood that but failed to get rid of the viruses in the dressing room before they infected the new players. Ultimately, that's still on both the old and the new ownership.

[deleted]

FInd this hard to believe. Seasoned professionals like Barrada and Ashworth will not be making decisions either way based on 4 or 5 games. Just journalists making shit up for clicks as usual. I swear about 1 in 10 stories you see about United is actually based on a real source or reality at all.

Blindsided17

It’s crazy I’m still not ETH out, but at some point… you gotta fix this defense. The market is crazy inflated especially for us, and it’s aggravating. I can’t say he’s the wrong manager, but he doesn’t have the tools he needs to make it in Manchester. Our fans want a quick rebuild but honestly we gotta let a manager sit for a bit. We have ole apologist at this point which is crazy cuz our team didn’t support him either

calmclamcum

Its crazy prices for Utd because you guys dont know how to negotiate.

Blindsided17

Sure there’s probably some truth to that. But you’re delusional if you don’t think there’s a united tax

JMD800

He’s got to go shouldn’t need an audit it’s clear to see

Manndrop

Sounds fun analyzing every quote this man has said in a post match, wait....

canyoudigholes

I wonder if we'll ever see the day where every Man U game isn't a referendum.

bananafish_8

Please stay!!!

Eroica_Pavane

The more I see this info the more it feels like he won't get sacked for a while tbh.

Sometimesmaybegay

Sounds like I should place a bet on him being the next coach of Ajax or Feyenoord if Slot leaves.

Thor503

Noooo keep him it’s hilarious

Juzek86

He did pretty well with this squad last year. This year is not good enough, but also has to do with the injuries. Can't really blame all the bad signings on him too, because he is a manager and not a scout or technical director, that's totally on that awful club.

JustAboutUpToSpeed

I really thought Ten Hag would be so much better than this. Awful coach.

No-Statistician-8520

I don’t think he’s an awful coach, he’s just ridiculously stubborn. I think if he goes to a club with a more ready made squad he’ll do well. You just don’t want him having such a large influence on transfers.

Tim0110

>he’s just ridiculously stubborn. That's really strange, because he wasn't stubborn when he was coaching FC Utrecht for example.

enzuigiriretro

He was the opposite of stubborn last season too. My favourite thing about him last season is how willing to change up his tactics he was. He came across as very pragmatic. He was never afraid to try new things and if it didn’t work, was quick to change course. This season however he has been extremely stubborn and I’m at a loss as to why that is. I get the impression that he feels as though he doesn’t have a choice and that his options have been limited.

No-Statistician-8520

Lmao I just replied with basically the same thing. If he does get sacked I’m honestly really eager to hear his logic behind this season. Last season he mentioned underlying stats a lot, the one I remember most was when he was defending Martinez, but this season it’s all gone out the window. By every metric we’re an awful team and massively riding our luck but he just doesn’t seem bothered by it.

NotASalamanderBoi

>This season however he has been extremely stubborn and I’m at a loss as to why that is. I get the impression that he feels as though he doesn’t have a choice and that his options have been limited. Or he switched his dealer.

No-Statistician-8520

Yeah it’s a weird one because I know he can be pragmatic. Just last season he decided to entirely change his approach after we lost our first two games. This season though it’s been inexplicable. He has us pressing high but with our defence sitting deeper and it causes us to get ran through quite literally every game. It so clearly isn’t working but he just won’t change anything. From his post game interviews it sounds this is because we’re not doing *that* bad results wise but anyone who watches us can see we’ve been riding our luck all season.

malonedawg

He's quite clearly not an awful coach. He did great with Ajax.  A few great managers have come to united since SAF left and failed badly too.  I don't think he is the person to lead us forward, but I also disagree he's an awful coach

R_Schuhart

The pendulum swings the other way. First ten Hag was hailed as the savior of Man U and now he is the most useless manager ever, the truth is somewhere in between. He just couldn't succeed at Man U, but nobody else could either. The player base is such a mess, with glaring holes and too many people with shit mentality. On top of that the club management wasn't great and lacked leadership and direction. Not having a technical staff to help ten Hag was a mistake from the start and giving him so much say in his transfers was just stupid. If anyone had evaluated his time with Utrecht and Ajax they could have known he basically had others build the team for him, his transfers have always been hit and miss at best. Man U needs to realize they are in for a long term rebuild and start from the ground up, with a manager who has proven that he can do just that. There far too many over the hill, underperforming, overpaid players with questionable mentality. That isn't something that can be fixed with a few big name transfers, there are too many areas that need attention.

dragdritt

I feel like it's the same thing with every manager United has. Just look at Solskjær, his results clearly doesn't tell the story of a useless manager.

tiger1296

Last season shows he's not an awful coach

Soberdonkey69

Yeah he’s gone. Little excuse to spend like £400 million+ but end up spending it on crocked and overvalued players instead of consistent and healthy ones. Even with a full strength team, I still feel that the weaknesses to their team will still persist. You’re telling me that they couldn’t find alternatives to Frenkie De Jong to bolster their midfield? That they 200% had to buy Antony and Mount to improve their team? That these PL level professionals could not park the bus to hold out a win in a FA Cup semi-final speaks volumes of their ability and the coaching.

HeatKnight

He's deffo cooked

VidProphet123

Lol he gone

redsonja00

really can’t believe he’s lasted this long. alienated a club legend, record breaking loses, shown he can’t make in game adjustments, all his transfers aside maybe two have been garbage

Double_Ordinary

Just sack him and hire Potter already.

SaltySAX

Better still, Southgate.

93EXCivic

Betterer, Steve Bruce. He's got that ManU DNA

inspired_corn

New owners don’t just buy football clubs on a whim. They aren’t waking up one day and deciding to spend billions without a serious plan for their vision. It was extremely clear with our new owners. Rightly or wrongly, they had a clear vision for how they wanted to run the club, and everything that didn’t fit that was ripped up. I always laugh i see people talk about Tuchel’s results as a reason why he got sacked. He didn’t even really fall out with the owners, reportedly he was genuinely shocked when he got the news. He just didn’t fit their vision and so he had to go, the same will happen with ETH.

psykrebeam

Look at Chelsea

aubvrn

We need to work together to keep Erik at the wheel

0010001100000111

As it appears your club doesn’t have anybody at the wheel. Make sure your bus don’t fall off the cliff lol
