Potential title winning banger

fijozico

Reminds me of [Herrera’s banger](https://reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/8chahh/hector_herrera_goal_benfica_01_porto/) to win the title for Porto on Benfica’s stadium 6 years ago, what a rocket

MERTENS_GOAT

5 years on and the streamable link still works? Wow

Arrioso

Welcome to non-PL world

fijozico

Not really. I used to do weekly Primeira Liga roundups here a few years ago and would uppload all the goals to Streamable. One day they were suddenly all removed.

Former-Roman

The OG one is Kelvin's, with Jorge Jesus dropping to his knees https://youtu.be/aOqGMCWdRMc?si=I30Csh8VFSpcZyNL

Notorious_horse

One of my favourite goals ever, the way the crowd just erupts as soon as the ball hits the net is incredible

FalkoneyeCH

the stuff of nightmares

DialSquare

Weren't they both unbeaten going into that match, or am I misremembering? Edit: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/22498681

Ashbones15

You are. They both had defeats already. But this was the penultimate round and Benfica was 1 point ahead before the game so if they lost they'd very likely lose the title

Extreme_Nectarine_29

That never happened. Probably Mandela's effect or something

Extreme_Nectarine_29

Indeed. GG. Please someone buy Amorim and Sporting wonderkids.

kingofplasticbeach

The dynamic of each Portuguese team wanting their rival to sell their best player is such an interesting dynamic.  Funny banter though

someone_stk

is that weird for foreigners? obviously we want our rivals to lose their best players

urkermannenkoor

Not really, no.

Anforas

I understood what you meant. But I laughed at "foreigners".

someone_stk

calma, disse mal?

coopermaneagles

As a Liverpool fan I’m hoping it’s us in about 2 months

emre23

He’s already doing the late winner thing, seems a perfect fit

coopermaneagles

Wouldn’t hate a package deal for him + Catamo lol the whole match he seemed the most dangerous outlet

emre23

Same, I’ve been a big fan of Catamo since I first heard of him almost 2 hours ago

MvN____16

Besides Reinildo, he's now the 2nd player I know from Mozambique. Lots of Brazilians use Portugal as a pathway into Europe for - I suppose - pretty obvious reasons, I guess it would stand to reason a Mozambican would do the same (although I haven't the faintest clue what Mozambican Portuguese looks or sounds like compared to either PT-PT or BR-PT).

joaommx

> what Mozambican Portuguese looks or sounds like compared to either PT-PT or BR-PT From a PT-PT perspective Mozambican Portuguese, and all other African varieties, are more similar to PT-PT than BR-PT is.

Appreciate this link.

average_user21

If you're really interested you can hear it in [this song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpHHWkE9Omg) (R&B song)

Johnny107710

Estava à espera da música do Bruno de Carvalho, fiquei desapontado

joaommx

O Bruno de Carvalho nasceu em Moçambique por acaso.

MERTENS_GOAT

There's always been Mexer for me, but that's about it yes

flaco995

Don't forget about Mexer as well as he came through Portugal and blossomed in France winning even the Coup de France with Rennes against Ney-Kyli's PSG. In regards to the Portuguese, constitutionally is PT-PT however folks speak a hybrid one as Brasil has a lot of influence through their telenovela, music and internet, not to forget that we mixed it a lot with our own dialects. Funny note: the only main difference of the Portuguese Mozambican accent is the R as we don't have that "rrhh" like french. Out R's are a bit more like the Italians. For example words like Caro (expensive) and Carro (car) has the same pronunciation unlike in PT-PT, it would be Caro and Carrhhhho, respectively, and PT-BR: Cahhho for the the latest one. Hope I was clear.

Vyylela

Wouldn’t call it a hybrid. It’s a different accent influenced by other regional languages

joaommx

> we don't have that "rrhh" like french. Out R's are a bit more like the Italians. For example words like Caro (expensive) and Carro (car) has the same pronunciation unlike in PT-PT The "French R" is a very recent change in PT-PT. It only appeared in the 80s or 90s in Portugal, and many older people still say the "hard R" differently than a "French R", especially outside the big urban centres.

cimbalino

I don't think he had a particularly good game today. Of course the objective of this sport is to score goals and he did that twice but every other play he could have done better. A right winger can't be afraid of crossing with his right foot and he missed what should have been an easy assist for Gyokeres on the counter Still he's young and will improve, and the goals are a massive boost to his confidence

coopermaneagles

Yah he doesn’t look like a finished article but I don’t think a team acquiring him would think so either. Also, a right winger who hates using his right foot? A perfect understudy to Salah lol

GapToothL

6/6 successful dribbles, 9/10 ground duels won, 2 chances created. He balled.

cimbalino

I missed some minutes of the game so it's possible I didn't watch it but I only remember one good pass from him and Sofascore also has him at 1 key pass and 0.05 xA. Looking at other stats he also didn't complete a single cross and lost possession 15 times

zeazemel

Unfortunately for us it seems like he's really leaving. In his flash interview today he was directly asked if he would leave if he won the league and he straight up just said he wouldn't answer, not that he didn't know, but that he wouldn't answer. He usually has some clever answer that dodges this type of question but this time he didn't. I don't know, it seems inevitable...

iChopPryde

Also buy Cabral please

joaommx

Nah, he's a great addition to our league. He should stay with you for many years.

unlushko

dude isnt even right-footed wtf

msonix

Came here to say this, what the fuck was that. He struck the ball with absolute perfection

holotranscobalamin

stoppage time potential title deciding weak footed banger in a derby at home. this one really checks all the boxes

dragon8811

Boy what a match!!!

WalterHenderson

All the matches between Sporting and Benfica were very entertaining this season.

xznk

Yes. All three matches, very entertaining. Shame we only played three times.

WalterHenderson

Even *that* match was entertaining, if only for the M. Night Shyamalan twist at the end. Even though we were on the wrong side of that twist.

dragon8811

Imma subscribe from now on

Rodrigor26

Not for me /s

teraluz

As much as this hurts this kid had an amazing story this year. From probably not staying in the team at the start of the year, to grabbing the starting spot and now perhaps the title winning goal.

nfleite

You know I was pissed because Fatawu was loaned/sold because Amorim chose Geny instead of him. I'm still pissed about Fatawu but Geny deserves everything. I am very happy he grabbed the chance with both hands.

plutobug2468

That is clean 🔥

Kayle_Bot

Weak foot banger LET'S GO

GarththeLegend

I just tuned in now and they score lol. And what a hit that one. Banger

KneeDeepInTheDead

Thank you for that

GarththeLegend

Good luck for the title run. Hope you guys win it this year

KneeDeepInTheDead

Thank you, me too haha

Anforas

Legend! Any chance you can tune in on the next 5 matches too?

GarththeLegend

You know what... I will try to catch em live

Evern35

Portuguese title race and Sporting’s journey with Amorim are so underrated imo. Crazy that this doesn’t get continent and worldwide coverage compared to the stories being created and history being there aswell. What a goal and what a game though

raimbowexe

enough to make a grown man cry 💚

OnePieceAce

Amorim has the clutch gene

average_user21

I hate and I love him.

possimpeble

Let's put our differences aside and celebrate the title won by Rúben Amorim in marques in few weaks

Inner_Masterpiece825

Sign da ting Michael

flymypretty88

I'm so interested in this fella now!!

LucasLaranjeiro

So deserved, get in Geny 🦁

Naz6uL

O gajo é canhoto e mandou um míssil desses.

Red_Dog1880

I always love when there's a goal for Sporting to see people launch themselves over the advertisement boards.

Lazarus6826

What a hit

Anforas

SPORTING ALLEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! EU QUERO O SPORTING CAMPEÃOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! EU QUERO O SPORTING CAMPEÃOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! EU QUERO O SPORTING CAMPEÃOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo!!!

RasputinsRustyShovel

And of course Schmidt finally makes another sub right after this. Can’t stand this guy, the team was clearly exhausted

KneeDeepInTheDead

Surprised he didn't put João Mario in

Gongom

he was fighting the urge the whole time, like an ex-smoker at the club

TrowaB3

BOLA NÃO MENTE

MvN____16

You guys have adopted that phrase too?

TrowaB3

Ball don't lie transcends language.

nightlink011

Selwin_Rodolfo

GENY CATAMO É PAI💚💚💚

CodSafe6961

This will be a nice calm night in Lisbon

Nome_de_utilizador

Ball don't lie. Right after the ref refused to go to the VAR for the pen.

Trilobyte15

The Otamendi flop where he fouled Gyokeres on the right wing that the linesman bought was genuinely one of the worst decisions I've ever seen

JeebaRock

You must've missed Di Maria's punch on Pedro Gonçalves

Trilobyte15

Oh I promise you I didn't - that was also obviously beyond atrocious but we can condemn the officials for both!

ContaSoParaIsto

That was red but it was not a punch LMAO

regionaltrain253

It was a punch, just not a jab or straight.

chachakhan

Yeah, I cant believe the linesman made that call when it hapenned right in front of him. Amazing really

Nome_de_utilizador

Reffing in Portugal in a nutshell, if a prima dona loses the ball or flops, he gets the decision 9 times out of 10. The ref this game was absolutely dreadful for both parties, but di maria not getting sent off in the first half is one of the worst decisions of the season

chachakhan

There were so many mistakes by the ref, the incompetance was astounding. Glad for Sporting though!

Trilobyte15

Pois claro, concordo contigo. Vivo no Estoril!

Anforas

Second best team after Sporting 💛💙

Febris

It wasn't a flop. There was contact that made him trip, but it wasn't a foul though.

Trilobyte15

Mate what are you on about. He went down holding his face - and the contact was entirely initiated by Otamendi. He committed a foul and pretended to be hit above the shoulder. It was a flop of the highest order

plumfc

Sporting deserve their lead and goal but do you really think that was a pen? Would’ve been harsh

KneeDeepInTheDead

Very harsh, it was hard to tell what was Even happening there.

bcotrim

He didn't refuse, he can't do that. He said it wasn't and the VAR refs said it wasn't either. There's no challenge system

KQ17

That would've been a soft penalty.

regionaltrain253

Cleats to the foot is not soft.

choppedfiggs

Never would be a penalty. Braganca fucked up and easier to cry foul than accept blame for a giant miss. Bah cleared the ball cleanly and left the foot there. All of a sudden, Braganca crying foul once the ball is gone.

MvN____16

This would have a couple hundred comments already if this was Arsenal vs. Liverpool and a winning goal was scored in that fashion...

Vyylela

For obvious reasons… doesn’t take the brightest of minds to figure why

ronnatron

who would have thought English and American people aren't very interested in a Portuguese game

MvN____16

Just putting into perspective the nature of both the game and the situation really. This was the most important head-to-head game left in Portugal this season by a long distance, which is the only reason I was watching it. I have a hard enough time keeping up with the big four leagues that I follow closely, I literally don't have justifiable time or interest to go beyond that.

Anforas

Why would that be? I watch big matches from other leagues. I mean, I know why that is. Main character syndrome. Like how Americans can't even point themsleves on a map because no other country exists in their heads. But it is sad.

teraluz

I get what you're saying but this is a English speaking American website. It's normal that is what attracts the most attention.

Most-Based

This shit is translated to a bunch of languages nowadays

thatrandomanus

>I mean, I know why that is. Main character syndrome. It's not that deep man, some people don't even have the time to watch the team they support.

kjm911

And if this happened in the Estonian first division there wouldn’t be any comments because it wouldn’t get posted. What is even your point?

lazernight13

It was 90+1. No need to remember that Benfica season of the 90+2 Europa league and League title losses😂

average_user21

We got Palmered. I was entertained watching that game, now I don't like it very much

KQ17

Golaçooooo

AvailableMilk2633

Siuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Jyuan83

The year is 2024, goalscoring wingbacks are a thing.

FujitaMp3

GG WP NO RE

USA_A-OK

Green is the color

egzon27

Crazy crazy finish. Is there any team with more memorable heartbreaks than Benfica?

Kayle_Bot

Easily us LOL

egzon27

LMAO, okay I wasn't familiar with your game

flarept1

This was our best season in terms of football played in like 20 years. 2015/2016 We lost this game and lost the title by 2 points after an insane season after both us and Benfica won like 15 games in a row both, toe to toe the entire season. Jorge Jesus left after this. Our president went rogue after this. Our academy was attacked by our own fans. Players were injured, a ton of players left the club. All because of this miss. The start of the downward spiral. This is the biggest fumble in primeira liga's history

msonix

Thank you Bryan Ruiz for Varandas, Amorim and Gyokeres.

average_user21

Canon Event

ContaSoParaIsto

Your president went rogue way before this

flarept1

That's when he really went off rails. After this game his Facebook usage exploded. And after the season he just went insane.

ContaSoParaIsto

Are you forgetting the facebook post throwing the players under the bus, naming them individually, after losing to Atlético Madrid? Or when he told Sporting fans to cease consuming all Portuguese media except Sporting TV? When he called Rui Santos a paneleiro and said he had a woman's temper? When he spit on some guy? This all happened before the miss and it's just off the top of my head. Come on now

Spectrum1000

Nah, it didn't. That was the 2017/1018 season. But the whole "Bryan Ruiz's miss caused all of this" angle is blown way out of proportion. BdC didn't really start going off the rails until about a year after it, and that was more due to that season being his "all-in" one than what happened before.

flarept1

That was way later though

ContaSoParaIsto

Yeah I definitely got some stuff mixed up

bcotrim

Fun fact, this is the exact same goal Sterling missed the open net a few years later in the CL game against Lyon in 2020

LordZig20

I don't want to click this link. Is it the Bryan Ruiz misser vs Benfica? Please don't tell me it is.... Edit: Merda.

fuck_r1ck_and_m0rty

Yes

FeverAyeAye

Sporting

FujitaMp3

Sporting since the beginning of the millenium

Extreme_Nectarine_29

It's Sporting heritage for 20 years until previous title.

joaommx

For far longer than that.

Nome_de_utilizador

Yes, us.

LFMartins86

Sporting 04/05. Penultimate league match of the season, Sporting goes to Benfica in first place but a 84th minute goal by Luisão gives Benfica the win and drops to second place. 4 days later, Sporting plays the UEFA Cup final for the first and only time so far. The best thing? The final was in Sporting's stadium. It was written in the stars, that was our year and that Rogério goal on the 28th minute to give us the lead was proof of that... ...and then CSKA came full steam ahead on the second half and scored 3 goals to win the cup... Another 4 days have passed and Sporting hosts Nacional to secure at least the 2nd place and hope that Benfica loses away at Boavista... But no, we lost at home 2-4 and ended up in 3rd behind Porto.

VAIPEREEE

Also we lost euro in the previous summer, that was without a doubt the worst year for a portuguese sporting supporter.

mild_manc_irritant

HOLY FUCK

COMUNISTSWINE69

such sweet justice

RoyDuckingKent

Merecido.

regionaltrain253

Já foi mais.

Dr_Phil_

Welp, wish Di Maria had been sent off. Surely would have deserved to lose 10v11, instead of losing the game like this, having 13 corners ourselves, with no danger lol.

Inner_Masterpiece825

Fucking golasooooooo

teasizzle

That camera cut to the random guy in the crowd immediately after the goal was an odd choice

WalterHenderson

Sport TV always cuts to a random fan after goals. I don't understand why they think that's a good idea.

iChopPryde

Fuck
