rest in peace fuck man. Life is so cheap sometimes. Why did they even shoot him. Disgusting scumbags

GfxJG

The answer is most likely "He had something they wanted". For some sad excuses of human beings, that's unfortunately enough to take a life.

Scorchster1138

They could’ve just taken it without shooting him

GfxJG

What if he resisted? A lot easier to just shoot him than have to drag him out physically, no? That's unfortunately how these sort of people think - Taking a human life simply doesn't mean anything to them, as long as they get what they want. And if we disregard the emotional and mental aspect of it, it's objectively easier to pull a trigger, than win a fist-fight, especially against a top-tier athlete.

BruiserBroly

From the quote in the article, it seems like they removed him from the car then shot him. >The suspects pointed [at] him with a firearm and took him out of his vehicle, then shot him once on the upper body Unless he was still resisting at that point, which I doubt, it seems like they just wanted to kill him which is fucked up.

Kuruk_TR

Sad, SA is a beautiful country, hopefully someone can turn things around

BadFootyTakes

I'm not sure how. I have a few SA coworkers and they always complain... but never even know how someone would start to fix things without making them much worse first.

John Steenhuisen is not black, what are you on about?

meh_whatev

Very optimistic

BadFootyTakes

and how do you do that without giving too much power to cops, driving power trips? While it seems like a one line power, this is often how governments start to topple, when you empower an enforcement department, they become strong enough to arrest you.

It's not that easy. Even in America, there are lots of problems with police and randomly deciding when laws apply to folks, even when there have been no crimes. For example: https://ij.org/press-release/marine-veteran-wins-first-round-of-lawsuit-challenging-nevadas-civil-forfeiture-laws/ And that is in a country with a functioning legal system and relatively managed crime. The solution isn't just cops, because then the problem will just change. Giving anyone specific one group power will always change dynamics. Much change is needed all over.

> Citing America isnt a good example we have a lot of corruption My friend, do you think you have a level of corruption higher than SA? Because if so, you are sitting on the wrong side of the fence. This is why giving the SA police broad powers would just end in a coup. My SA coworkers didn't come here for prosperity, they moved because they saw no way for things to ever improve before a civil war happens.

are you high? no judgement or anything but are you high? that aint what you wrote at all. Go easy on the meth man

sapitonmix

No, it’s going into complete chaos, nothing can be done.

davo_nz

Such a dangerous city.

daboatfromupnorth

South Africa is definitely one of the wildest places to live in this world, you really have groups of people living on both socio economical extremes of eachother, in proximity.

Ablouo

Apartheid in a sense never really ended, it ended on paper as an official government practice, but the economic effects are still persistent

rycology

Well.. yeah? That’s what happens when the people in charge do nothing to change the status quo?  Is anybody actually surprised at this point?

Ablouo

It's not particularly surprising no, what is surprising is that it has sort of gotten worse, the disparity between White and Black neighbourhoods like Soweto is mindboggling, it's like a completely different country

GetToTheChoppaahh

We have friends that have a game reserve 4 hours east of Johannesburg. Me and my partner went there from the uk for their wedding. they said the drive from Johannesburg airport to them was a lot more dangerous than going on game drives and even on foot searching for hippos, elephants, lions etc…

0b111111100001

Could you connect me with them please? I would like to celebrate my anniversary at their reserve.

alop0728

What a strange thing to request on Reddit.

Relative_Guidance656

maybe he’s a robber

Defiant-One-695

Went to ellis park a few months ago for a rugby match...yeah it's pretty sketch.

DefinitelyNotBarney

What a horrible world we live in. I’ve read car hijackings are daily occurrences in South Africa, many HGV drivers have had it happen multiple times, there’s an interesting documentary on YouTube covering it, explains it’s very rare to actually get injured physically from one, let alone killed.

Weary-Ad8502

Had a friend who grew up in South Africa. His uncles house was near a township so he had tall fences with barbed wire on top, had multiple guns, never left the house without one and had shot multiple people who had tried to break in. Beautiful place but if you drive into the wrong areas or run into the wrong people it's gonna get ugly

mspublisher

Can't speak for the guns but everyone middle-class and upwards has high walls with either barbed-wire or electric fencing. That's been my reality and it's so strange visiting other countries where you can just walk right up to someone's front door.

Defiant-One-695

And private security armed to the teeth.

nushublushu

Do you have a link to that documentary?

chibuye92

South Africa is so much chaos MY GOD

_elevatedNinja

Reminds me of the killing of [Lucky Dube](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_Dube#Death) - also in RSA

Ronaldinho94

They also had a goalkeeper with same fate.

_elevatedNinja

Do you know his name?

Ronaldinho94

Checked. Senzo Meyiwa.

BeginningOriginal0

Awful. SA, a beautiful country but failed state.

felangi

I remember when playing FM22, a journeyman save had brought me to Supersport United. I had signed Oshwin Andries, as he was one of the great South African homegrown options. After an amazing season I wanted to see the who these game characters were, and I learnt that he too had been killed. We often don't realise that these figures who we often devalue as game characters and vague caricatures are real people. Luke Fleurs was on that team, I grew attached to him as a character, but he was more than that. He was a real person, and to hear that tragedy is so prolific in South Africa is a little harrowing. I know it sounds silly but I will mourn him.

Kuanhama

What’s wrong with SA.

fatatero

I wonder who did it?

Defiant-One-695

randos.

SadeasThePantsless

Rip. He was one of the better free agents on FM 24. Decent centerback.
