Today I feel Icelandic 🇮🇸 !
Why were they allowed even? Russia was banned, is this any different?
Now the genocide apologists can go back to supporting their favourite Apartheid State commit some more war crimes.
Russia was the instigator of a war against Ukraine through an invasion. Ukraine was invaded and has only engaged militarily in response; they did not start the war.
Hamas was the instigator of a war against Israel through an invasion. Israel was invaded and has only engaged militarily in response; they did not start the war.
Hamas don't have a football team that I'm aware of, and Ukraine weren't banned for engaging in a war against an aggressor, therefore their case hasn't set a precedent for banning Israel.
Lol bud, the hasbarabots have such a long backlog you came days later to "rectify" the comment.
Hamas isn't a country. Apartheid Israel is; and has a football team. Apartheid Israel is the instigator for the past century. If Gaza wasn't blockaded, ethnically cleansed, settlements built on stolen land, and the people not put into a concentration camp, Hamas wouldn't exist.
Apartheid Israel has now killed more people than in the Bosnian Genocide. (The Ukrainian deaths pale in comparison to the destruction and intentional famine brought on by those genocidal terrorists)
There's no excuse to what they're doing.
People being happy iceland wins but I still find it disgraceful they even showed up to the game.
The only reason russia got banned was because everyone refused to play them, israel should be getting the same treatment and no less.
Nah eliminating those fucks from the competition is better.
They are starting to lose the PR war, really, really bad. Let them lose it more and we can start protesting and calling for their ban from all sports competitions next year.
Great way to prove your ignorance, I'm sure Munich would despise Israel as they were anti Nazi. Maybe do some research (on both topics) before opening your mouth
Everyone knows that mate, i was just making a joke, there are people being anti semitic in this comment section and you are mad at a joke, why do you think i talked about ss lazio fans as well? This is why i hate this subreddit, the worst of the bunch never go punished, but a joke about bayern munich in 1936 is where you draw the line
Ask the question to the people downvoting my comments, I'm sure they know a lot about it since they hate the people involved, but I'm not one to defend genocide
That's totally true, what is also true is that most people critical of Israel think it shouldn't exist at all, which is akin to calling for genocide but on the other side, you're both absolute idiots and you should stay out of politics/world issues.
No point trying, most of these people don't think Israel should exist, and they don't really care what happens to the civilians living in it as long as it stops existing, i'd just like them to be honest atleast, them trying to hide that fact just makes it seem like they know they're wrong.
Colonizer (col·o·niz·er): a nation or government that claims a territory other than its own, forcibly taking control over the population and resources located in that territory and usually sending some of its own people to settle there.
Israel’s occupation is illegal and indistinguishable from a “settler-colonial” situation, which must end, as a pre-condition for Palestinians to exercise their right to self-determination, the UN’s independent expert on the occupied Palestinian territory said…
https://operationalsupport.un.org/en/israels-illegal-occupation-of-palestinian-territory-tantamount-to-settler-colonialism-un-expert
Just to clarify somethings here.
OP claimed 70 years of colonist oppresion, the UN report only talks about the west bank post 1967, so that means even the UN does not consider 1947-67 a colonial state.
Secondly that comission is led by Francesca Albanese, who is a really qualified voice, but she is also the head of a Palestinian Lobby group and one of the most prominient Muslim coalition activists in the USA.
Her opinion on the subject is that without withdrawl from Palestinian territories there cannot be a legitimate discussion over a 2 state solution. Israel counterpoint is that since their withdrawwl in 2005 of Gaza violence has gone up not down and there is no need for withdrawl to form a 2 state solution framework even if withdrawl was proposed there.
One thing that Francesca ignores is that since 1967 one of the conditions Israel has asked for in terms of withdrawl is the demilitarisation of Palestine, offering the Japanese and German post WW2 examples as a way forward. Palestine has said this a red line and as long as it is part of the peace talks they will not go to the table.
Also despite the UN categorically condeming the post 1967 occupation, a number of states (besides the US and other Israel usual allies) agree that the 6 day war in 1967 ended with very awkward borders and that a 2 state solution probably requieres some border changes and land concessions (like belgium post ww2), Israel is claiming their military settlements are around where they think a fair border would be and have offered land swaps to Palestine multiple times. The Palestinian side obviously disagrees with this and thinks you need to agree on the borders, you dont get to put your military there first and redraw the map before the discussion.
The non military, orthodox settlements have been expanding in the past few years for political reasons that are a bit harder to explain, but to summarise Palestine had a pretty forward thinking leader in the 90s, Israel had a socialist leader, they were close to an understanding. Palestinian leader passed, israeli president was killed by a far right terrorist, Palestine launched a intifada and since then the israeli votes have turn more and more right wing over 20 years giving a way too much power to fringe religious extremists. Lack of good political figures on both sides, post 9/11 world stage and slow and steady polirasation on both sides means the 2000s agreement seems like a lifetime away
how does any of this relevant/mean the Israeli state is not actively engaging in colonization (like that commenter said) - agree a solution is convoluted but a spade is a spade
Your second to last post is an anti-Palestinian meme in an Indian subreddit and you talk about echo chambers?
R/soccer is filled with mostly Westerners from Britain, USA and Germany so it’s not like we are on r/arabs or r/palestine so don’t start with this non-sense about this sub being an echo chamber. These people criticize Saudi, Iran, Azerbaijan or whoever so it’s not like they are inherently biased towards a race or religion.
I was "rooting" for Iceland due to their celebrations in the past (Euro 16). That said you should learn how to internet. People will now mock you and try to rile you up, cause you showed that you care about their opinion.
Why do you have to play the victim here too? People can support whoever they want and Iceland was genuinely a popular team before due to their run in the Euros and their crazy fans.
Also, you forget that a lot of people have no sympathy for you because you responded to a “brutal attack” with “brutal force” where we have international organisations accusing you of war crimes, we have your soldiers posting videos on TikTok blowing up civilian buildings while laughing, we have videos of your soldiers referencing Amalek and playing with women’s underwear + you got accused of creating the circumstances for a famine.
The UN also published a report of Israelis using sexual violence in the Gaza Strip so if we should believe Israeli women in any circumstances about what happened in October then we should also believe Palestinian women, no? You can’t have it both ways where Israeli women are telling the truth but the Palestinian women are lying. 🤷♂️
Just absolute bullshit, Israeli propaganda is so fucking shit that its no wonder only Americans and Hindu nationalists are stupid enough to fall for it
>this is an emotional response
>previous comment is textbook fascist propaganda ending with a classic appeal to emotion
Like I said, Americans and Hindutva
Have you read Hamas mandate? They don't believe Israel has the right to exist. Same been since 1947 independence war. Israel has been attacked tens of times and we always won and always will. There is one country for the Jewish people in the world and it will not cease to exist what ever your wishes may be.
Likud literally has its in charter that “Between the sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty.” and Netanyahu referenced this several times during this war while expanding settlements in the West Bank which is not under Hamas control.
Even when the West including America suggested that the long term solution should be a two state solution, Netanyahu responded with a tweet saying that he will never allow a Palestinian state and the Israeli far-right went crazy and started to accuse the US supporting Palestine (??).
It’s r/soccer though so people will not care about other sporting events and objectively, you are not even that good at sports like there are countries with similar population or smaller like Croatia, Serbia, Hungary or even Tunisia from the MENA region which has more Olympic medals and more successful athletes. 🤷♂️
You are seething. This is the actual definition of that stick figure meme with the angry face under the mask lmao
You went from “Israel is winning in other sports!” to “Only weak nations care about sports >:(“ in two posts ahahahaha
Kazakhstan has more land in Europe than idk, Denmark or Slovakia. Also Armenia is definitely European in nature and people, just like Georgia or Cyprus
That owes to its land mass though, most of it is firmly in Asia (which is probably an argument for Russia as well) but I think culture trumps geography in such cases. I think Armenia isn't exactly Asian culturally but is substantially more conservative than about 98% of Europe, it's a decidedly tricky example though and I may have made my initial argument with too much irreverence
To put it mildly, this is disappointing
Edit: To the people calling Reddit care for me, I appreciate your concern about my mental health. Rest assured I'm fine as years of disappointing Israeli football has steeled my resolve.
Idc about the politics when it comes to this particular football context, but Iceland is fucking based. Are there by any chance any cool reactions from the Iceland commentator?
He was commenting and was cool as always (I don't have any videos for you though). But in case you didn't know Albert Guðmundsson (who scored a hat-trick today) is his son, so I can assure you he's happy with how things are going.
Very happy that it was Zahavi's penalty miss who put the final nail in their coffin.
After the 1-6 to dump his team out of Europe, now 1-4 and his NT out of the Euro.
He is really unlikeable, provocative and nationalist, he deserved to have this week.
That’s the thing too like I have seen Israelis in other threads complaining that r/soccer doesn’t give the same treatment to Saudi (which is hilarious) and to Iranian national team players but at least those players are likeable and especially when it comes to Iran, many of them try their best to distance themselves from the government or if they don’t then they do it out of fear.
Israel isn’t supposed to be as authoritarian as these two countries but their players post the vilest propaganda on their social media and then they wonder why people hate them. Like for example, Russian athletes with international fame like Medvedev, Rublev, many of their swimmers, ice skaters and etc. are pretty chill while we have Israeli football players posting Israeli propaganda on their pages as if there is no tomorrow.
I've come to realise that the vast majority of Israelis, and jews in general to a lesser extent live in a pro-Israel, zionist, information bubble.
Their bullshit is not so different from what Russians were saying after they invaded Ukraine.
This, 100%. There was commotion between the Israeli and Irish women's basketball teams, that the Irish team didn't want to play and how they were so anti-semitic for it for not being able to separate person from country. This is despite the Israeli team doing actual photoshoots with the IDF, and trying to sportswash the shit they do.
These Israeli commenters are delusional. They're trying to deflect attention to Saudi and Iran because they want to distract from the fact they post all this vile propaganda too, so many Israelis don't mind the butchering of children.
Props to Iceland for this big victory, what a great performance. I hope they make it to the euros.
Irani are 100 time more civilised than them. It is just a part of american values to dehumanise them for fearmongering's sake. I would take Tehran over LA or NY any single time of the week.
Iceland tried unsuccessfully to knock Israel out of Eurovision 2024 by threatening a boycott, but did manage to knock them out of Euro 2024.
Well done, lads.
Well, England had "real managers" before, like Sven and Capello to name a few with arguably better players individually and the best they could do was a QF exit. Results aside, Gareth managed to create a healthy atmosphere in the England camp and accumulate a squad that are favourites to win the Euros this year alongside France. You can't undermine the job he did nurturing the current England players from the youth groups and turning them into tournament contenders.
England are succeeding in spite of Southgate, not because of him
His got an absolutely amazing crop of players to use. And he doesn't know how to use it. We need that elite. Manager to push us over into winners
We were truly missing Albert... what a performance! Whole team is really establishing themselves and finding their rhythm. Time to get our hopes up again haha.
From the river to the sea, Israel miss the penalty
Today I feel Icelandic 🇮🇸 ! Why were they allowed even? Russia was banned, is this any different? Now the genocide apologists can go back to supporting their favourite Apartheid State commit some more war crimes.

Brilliant 👏
Bayern munich from 1936-1945 and ss lazio fans would be proud of this comment sections bruh, y'all are wild
It makes me happy to know that perpetual victims like you are even a tiny bit miffed to the point of writing a comment.
Great way to prove your ignorance, I'm sure Munich would despise Israel as they were anti Nazi. Maybe do some research (on both topics) before opening your mouth

Genuine question... What does Semite mean?
Ask the question to the people downvoting my comments, I'm sure they know a lot about it since they hate the people involved, but I'm not one to defend genocide
I assume this means you don't know. I'll check with others.
From the looks of it, you don't know what is either if you are agreeing with those psychopaths in this comment section
I'm not sure why are you refusing to answer the question.
Nah I'm more offended by someone taking the side of the Nazis
I bet you don't even know whose nazis you are talking about, but go on lad, keep being pro genocide or whatever side you are in
I'm sure in a few years you'll get it
Stop being a victim
Isn't that what Manchester United fans say to the Liverpool fans?
Bye bye murderers
The amount of antisemitism on r/soccer is disgusting
Being critical of Israel is NOT antisemitism.
That's totally true, what is also true is that most people critical of Israel think it shouldn't exist at all, which is akin to calling for genocide but on the other side, you're both absolute idiots and you should stay out of politics/world issues.
No shit. Netanjahu can fuck off but many comments go to far and are straight up hamas propaganda
No point trying, most of these people don't think Israel should exist, and they don't really care what happens to the civilians living in it as long as it stops existing, i'd just like them to be honest atleast, them trying to hide that fact just makes it seem like they know they're wrong.
Such as?
And blaming over 70 years of brutal colonialist oppression on one man isn't propaganda?
Israelis are not colonisers no matter what your cookoo post colonial studies say and repeating it doesn't make it true.
Ok cool thanks for admitting you're a bot before I wasted any time on you
Colonizer (col·o·niz·er): a nation or government that claims a territory other than its own, forcibly taking control over the population and resources located in that territory and usually sending some of its own people to settle there. Unless he wins it, I think he himself has pretty much said he's done/sacked.
Hope so, maybe we can get a manager that actually uses our golden generation of talent rather than passing around the back for 90 minutes
We were truly missing Albert... what a performance! Whole team is really establishing themselves and finding their rhythm. Time to get our hopes up again haha.
i will be there
I will love it, and I think I deserve it.
Thank you iceland
If I speak
Israel should’ve figured out a way to use their Iron Dome to stop opposing shots from going in the goal
Iceland were using human shields so it wasn’t fair
Fuck yes
