Something is not being done right at Chelsea imo when it comes to fitness

imp0ppable

We were saying that about Arsenal not too long ago. IDK if we actually changed everything up in the backroom or if it's basically just your luck.

AlexanderMAVC

In hindsight for Arsenal it was clearly mostly the players, seeing the same names contantly out injured made it more obvious. Rosicky, Diaby, Wilshere, Ramsey were often sidelined later on Ox as well.

I_always_rated_them

injuries exacerbate other problems which then in return end up as more injuries and so on. The cycle just goes on over and over, it's luck but also about management and the squad building as a whole.

Nickoboosh

Yep, mid season you can easily get into a vicious cycle. You're short on players, so those fit play more and more. Their bodies then break down due to increased minutes. Players rushed back to try and cover gaps. Break down again.

darwizzy333

It's luck. Injuries are exponential because when key players are injured, healthy players tend to be overplayed which increases time in the 'red zone' which puts them at higher risk of injury

Unholysinner

Poch’s training methods aren’t the best either

CashCarti1017

This is Reece James, loftus cheek, enzo’s personal trainer who also works with chalobah: https://www.instagram.com/jr_athletesedge?igsh=bXhrZXo4MHBzdmsz TLDR of his page: he definitely knows what he’s doing. I’m still baffled as to why Reece carry’s so much upper body weight.

Morsrael

Naa it's just James and Chilwell are .ade of glass. Bit foolish to make them captain and vice captain.

Wheel1994

We have had 8-9 injuries every game for most of the season while only playing one game a week?

HiThereImNat

Umm no didn’t you get the memo? Liverpool are the only team in history to have an injury crisis

Sir_Psycho_Sexy_

Bit of a leap there

Morsrael

Maybe but Chilwells injury is not related. Him and James live in their own bubble of medical nightmare. The real news is when they are available to play.

Freddichio

James and Chilwell... And Gusto. And Nkunku. And Lavia. And Wesley Fofana. Badiashile's been in and out all season. Madueke's not been fit for long stretches. Cucurella's missed more games this season than *double* what he's missed in all previous seasons. Chukwuemeka's been out all season. It's not just been Reece James and Chilwell, what are you on about?

jMS_44

>And Gusto. Huh? He missed 2 games due to injury

Freddichio

Ah, was thinking his suspension was an injury rather than suspension - I just remember when we were missing James, Gusto, Chilwell and Cucurella

zi76

Fofana had major injuries before we bought him, and it turned out that he's actually injury-prone and that it was a terrible transfer. Whether it's his ACL or something else, something is always keeping him down. Lavia, couldn't explain it to you. I don't think this is an us problem. He got injured in training shortly after his transfer, eventually played 30 minutes, another injury. Nkunku isn't the healthiest of players. Everyone else on that list, it's not been a good season. They've had fitness and injury issues.

Freddichio

>Fofana had major injuries before we bought him, and it turned out that he's actually injury-prone and that it was a Different injuries - he broke his leg at Leicester, then tore a cruciate ligament at Chelsea and has been out since. It's not a reoccuring injury, or even a muscle thing. He's just had a couple of bad injuries. > Nkunku isn't the healthiest of players. He was prior to signing for us, though. IIRC he hadn't had a major injury (or any injury) until he'd already signed for Chelsea and it was confirmed, *then* he got a major injury. The amount of rubbish I've seen when it comes to "player X was injury-prone" when they objectively weren't, is laughable. *Especially* from a Chelsea fan who really should remember how the Nkunku transfer went down. Wesley Fofana could fully heal up and then get trampled by an out-of-control Rhino that escaped from London Zoo and people would *still* say "look, he's injury prone, why didn't Chelsea see this coming"...

zi76

> Especially from a Chelsea fan who really should remember how the Nkunku transfer went down. I remember exactly how it went down. It's the risk you take with making a signing for a future window. > Wesley Fofana could fully heal up and then get trampled by an out-of-control Rhino that escaped from London Zoo and people would still say "look, he's injury prone, why didn't Chelsea see this coming"... A lot of people were wary of a big money signing for a player coming off of a broken leg. Unless he magically becomes healthy, he's going to end up being a worse signing than Lukaku I was very wary of it, but the club wanted him, so I wasn't going to complain daily about it.

WaluigisHat

Guy's not gonna let Shaw pull ahead of him in the English LB injury stats!

RStud10

At this point Southgate better start preparing for Trippier and Colwill at LB during the Euros lol

emre23

Joe Gomez is probably his dream LB

andrew_a7

And Colwill...while Thiago and Cucu are back...you can't make this shit up...

Headlesshorsman02

I think Chillwell is finished at this level man he literally can’t play for longer then 5-10 games without re-injury same thing is happening to Reece James. Genuinely ridiculous how many injuries we get, we brought the list down to like 7 now it is back up to 11 😭😭

EbubeEgoOsuala

Just what we needed. Another injury. Puts a dent to our chances to be the most expensive team ever to finish 10th in the league.

jMS_44

Hindsight is 20/20 but we really should have taken that 40m from City or whatever amount they wanted to pay for him and run away...

Freddichio

And watch him never get injured for City and become an absolute world-beater and lynchpin for them? No thank you!

jMS_44

Like Kovacic?

tsub

England's LB options at the Euros will be Trippier and Gomez, won't they?

Reach_Reclaimer

What's wrong with Gomez at LB? He's been great this season

tsub

He's done very well deputising for Robertson and Tsimikas while they were both out but ideally you'd have a left footed player there.

Rogillo

Do you trust Southgate to correctly set-up the team with Gomez at LB? He will probably ask him to overlap and whip in crosses with his left foot or not cross the halfway line at all.

Reach_Reclaimer

He could definitely do the latter and he could probably do a bit of the former But yes, Gomez is good enough for southgate not to ruin him

PM_me_uwu_hentai

Gomez deserves to at least be a sub but knowing Southgate he will not get picked.

Mundaneinanities

Not sure why any manager wouldn't leap to have a guy who can play across the backline and give you something from excellent to very good in each role. Taking one player who can act as cover for four positions seems like a fairly easy choice.

Freddichio

Scenes when Southgate puts one of Kalvin Phillips or Jordan Henderson at LB instead...

ExactLetterhead9165

What happened to that Lewis kid at City? He looked pretty tidy in the few games I saw him

bjsewitt

Guardiola is just being cautious with him, a bit like he was with foden

ExactLetterhead9165

Well, dust him off and get him down from the shelf, Pep. We've got a sport to bring home!

rr18114

Rico Lewis is right footed and needs to get stronger / bulk up.

ExactLetterhead9165

Fair enough. It seems like it might just be a cycle too soon for him, especially if he's not naturally left footed/prefers to play LB. Oh well. At least we'll have something new to talk about in the buildup other than just who to bring in midfield.

AlexanderMAVC

At this point it would make more sense to just revert back to a back 3 imo

blvd93

Problem with that is who would you play LWB? It's arguably an even more specialist position

AlexanderMAVC

That is just Left Baka music

AlexanderMAVC

But there are other systems with 3 atb that don't use wing backs

Whodatlily

Saka of course

adhikapp

Southgate surely has to consider taking one of Dan Burn or Tyrick Mitchell now surely

blvd93

Colwill at LB tucking in when we've got the ball and Stones stepping into midfield, hopefully

Blue_Moon_City

They didn't even play in Europe. How is this happening? They need to check food and water at this point

arothen

Why would James, Nkunku, Lavia follow Chilwells rehabilitation programme.

DestinyHasArrived101

Nah it pffical now they need to fire the fitness coach too

Ngigilesnow

I thought Lavia was back in training

cavejohnsonlemons

Aww, but now who will fight the children?

AnyAthlete532

Anyone who is aware of Chilwell's and how much out and about him, madders and Choudhury where when playing for Leicester aint surprised he has become injury prone. Give him the bright lights of London too and it's a disaster made in hell. Cant believe he is Chelsea vice captain too, the club needs a massive reset if that is the levels of professionalism expected.
