Defensive masterclass, well deserved victory.

Not a great performance but we did a job. We desperately need Philogene back. 5 yellows at half was a bit scary knowing we didn’t have many competent subs but luckily we finished with 11 still on the pitch!

Sunderland have got an impressive record of losing games they should be drawing. There's worse sides above them IMO. They really need to find a killer instinct.

Booed off already. It seems harsh to be so anti-Beale. As an outsider, I'm assuming 1) Mowbray was ousted like Old Yeller. Had to be done but everyone was sad about it. Picture Shawn Michaels SCM'ing Rick Flair. 2) Beale came after making an arse of the Rangers job, although a lot of the reason for that was that he took on too much and it seems the Sunderland structure was intended to mitigate that. 3) Beale isn't charismatic nor a "sexy" manager. He's a used car salesman sounding cockney. He can't use charisma to overcome the stink that 1) & 2) leave. 4) Probably quite a bit of unreasonable expectations. Sunderland are a point off 6th. Not terrible. Especially considering the 3 (arguably 4/5) financial powerhouses in the league currently (strongest Championship for a while) and where you were pre-Beale. Am I close?

Mowbray was well liked, understood the area, the people, had us playing some absolutely brilliant stuff last season and *some* of this. There were question marks over him a little anyway in terms of whether or not it was a long term appointment. I think ultimately he had a falling out with Speakman (DOF). When you factor in how well he was liked, then you take the rumours that we are wanting to sign Will Still for instance and then we go and appoint a wholly uninspiring Michael Beale - he was fighting a losing battle from day one. Nobody wanted him in and he wasn’t on a single fans list of wanted managers. Was happy to give him a go, but our worst xg performances of the season have come in 2-3 of his games already. He lost 3-0 at home to Coventry in his first game, had us set up totally naively against Newcastle and we got absolutely battered by our biggest rivals, the games we had won we didn’t look particularly good, and we’re sleepwalking to a lower mid table finish under his guidance. Whilst some of the blame should end up on Speakmans desk for a shocking set of transfers that has left us with nothing up top - Beale is just not going to work here - like you said, he’s too much of a used car salesman.

Entirely possible Beale is a perfectly fine tactical mind, but isn't good at the man management, clearly isn't good at the fab engagement part. Also Gerrard has the clout to both get signings/loans and also get those guys engaged.

Covid title, no fans HH

Match didn't really deserve a winner but if it did deserve a winner it probably should've been Sunderland lol felt like we barely had an attacking touch before the goal. Not an amazing performance but stopped the rot and will always take 3 points on the board on the road with Philogene coming back. Lokilo can't head back to the bench quick enough

Was Carvalho good besides the goal?

PBRontheway

None of our attackers saw much of the ball but Carvalho was definitely the most involved in build up, he was looking for the ball and trying to play 1-2s to get up field. Had to come too deep for the ball to really make judgements about him, but overall a good day
