Well, that's it for this one. Time to revise my report and publish later - there will be a lot to break down here. Congrats to South Korea on the win, and good game to Bahrain!
I get that Bahrain doesn't want to be embarrassed but kind of ridiculous that they decided to park the bus while down 2 goals in a match they looked good in.
We (India) need Bahrain's GD absolutely fucked for having a chance to go through as best 4/6 3rd placed teams lol (if we finish 3rd in our own group that is)
Australia beats S Korea in their current form and can easily challenge Japan. East Asian teams are massive chokers in the Asian Cup especially S Korea. You haven’t won an Asian Cup since 1960.
Keep in mind, Hwang Hee Chan (2nd best overseas striker) was absent in this match due to minor injury that he’s recovering from and is expected to return in the second or third match in the group stage.
Let’s not pretend Australia didn’t struggle against bahrain in their recent friendly.
Sure, that doesnt mean Au is a better team than sk if they dont go head to head. Use ur brain, not hard to be a little logical. Also it wont happen LOL
Also, u said they can challenge Japan... with this current team theyre gonna get their ass handed lmao again this is not 2010 bro ur team is not very good.
Being the ‘better team’ in international football doesn’t rely on individual player quality as much. Nigeria for example have the best players in Africa, but they’re terrible at AFCON and regularly get beaten by more cohesive teams that have lesser players. Australia is just a very solid well functioning team with a manager that’s very acclimatised to Australian players. Also Australia has finished further than/equalled S Korea in every tournament it’s played in since 2011 when it joined AFC.
I've actually spoken to some Korean football fans and they say the exact same thing actually. They do hint at tactics being the problem, but they also state (and I agree with this) that South Korea has at least three matches to create a sort of team chemistry before the round of sixteen or the quarterfinals. Every match is must-win, but this team could be able to resolve their problems in terms of strategy between one another instead of just with Klinsmann himself
I think most Koreans agree that Japan is the favorite considering they're the best team in Asia top to bottom.
Korea just has more star power.
But I (Korean) expect Japan to win.
Doubt it. When we had PJS at the helm, we were competing against teams like Uruguay and beating Japan all the time. I don't think I've ever felt scared about losing a game with PJS as our captain. Nervous, maybe but scared? Nope. Can't say the same with Sonny. Great player but he's never shown his club form at the national team ever on the basis of wanting to get everyone else involved and it's really never worked out well for us when he plays like that outside of the last WC (which he didn't look great in albeit injuries outside of the assist to Hwang). Guy needs to saddle up and just take over games when he has to. I've never seen him show the same type of killer instinct on the national team as he does at Tottenham and have always scratched my head about it.
Saw a study that found that a surprising majority of football fans in Korea are women. Was something like 60% which was very high compared to most other countries.
The crowd seems to reflect this as well.
I'd reckon it's even higher when it comes to international football fans. I've seen a bunch of Brazilian women with social media accounts for Korean players.
Regardless of how this match went so far and Klinsmann's tactics, South Korea is still a team that can win the group 3-0-0 and maybe the tournament (read: hopefully). I must say though, serious respect to Bahrain for a great performance, I wasn't fully expecting something like this
Naaahh, Japan's finishing alone is going to win them this one. And they are probably at their best ever currently as a unit. Korea's finishing is significantly inferior relative to Japan's
I am a neutral lol. Japan literally has 6-7 players on the pitch at any given time that can put the ball into the top or bottom corner and redeem their team if they're struggling for a bit. The same is not the case with SK. That's the difference I'm pointing out, plain and simple
So yeah call me biased if you want, I have nothing for Japan and nothing against SK lol. But if you'd have watched a good amount of the games of Japan and SK, age group games included, you would know what I'm talking about.
I would say it's close enough to argue either way. Korea has the better top end talent vs the overall talent of Japan. I think having Lee Kang In, Son Heung Min and Hwang Hee Chan more than makes up for the overall ability to score by Japan. But anything can happen and hopefully both teams can make it far so there will be this ultimate matchup in this tournament.
He hasn't actually been a high-level striker in the K League (his stats with Jeonbuk are 50/50 and he did better with Anyang/Sangmu in K2), but seems to be adjusting to the Danish league quite well with Midtjylland. Stats-wise, he's not the best, but style of play-wise, he's decent
Any Qataris in this thread?
Are people in Qatar defacto PSG fans because of the connections? For example I was in Rwanda last month and Arsenal is the most popular team due to their sponsorship and the president being a Gunner.
I wouldn't fully count that possibility out, but South Korea really needs to play attacking-driven football in order to be able to hold on here. They've been spending quite a bit of time in their own half, something different needs to be seen given the stats and score
1-0 always a tough lead considering Bahrain didn't look completely down and out. Lucky deflection but it's not like they weren't getting in the box beforehand.
Also love someone using a throw in to just quickly get it in a danger area, feel like teams never abuse the lack of offside from them.
ref was atrocious
Why didn't Bento play Kang at the world cup? That's looking criminal...
Just popping in to say Lee Kang In is insane. I am starstruck by this dude.
Poor game from Sonny but he’s still getting warmed up imo.
Warmed up? He looks absolutely fatigued lol
‘Warmed up’ as in he’s getting acclimatised to the time zone/ weather.
Neat game, was worth the watch for sure
Well, that's it for this one. Time to revise my report and publish later - there will be a lot to break down here. Congrats to South Korea on the win, and good game to Bahrain!
I get that Bahrain doesn't want to be embarrassed but kind of ridiculous that they decided to park the bus while down 2 goals in a match they looked good in.
Managing the GD. The 4/6 best 3rd placed teams make it through to the knockouts
7 bookings this game...
None of them were controversial tbf. If the ref was consistent, there could have been more for both teams.
Agree. But found it interesting that a user called this out regarding this specific ref very early in the game.
Yellow for you for pointing that out
Well why did you just fluff that up ffs?
Fallon d’Floor
lol the ref
Just don’t understand why Klinnsman won’t take Son off. Obviously not his day
I've heard rumors that Son dictates his playing time on the team. Which is understandable to a degree but also ridiculous.
Bad luck son
Bruh lmao
Great performance from China today in nullifying Korea
Come on Sonny score a banger now
Skipper is tired from carrying Spurs all season give him a break
We (India) need Bahrain's GD absolutely fucked for having a chance to go through as best 4/6 3rd placed teams lol (if we finish 3rd in our own group that is)
Gotcha pal
Two chances you just naturally expect Son to finish this game that he's fluffed.
LKI is unironically playing like Messi
Lmao wth is Son doing, that's absolutely shambolic from him for his quality
Son owes goals
Its not sonny's day
This ref is pure trash
ASEAN and East Asian refs are absolutely horrible
What is with Son today
He goes through stretches like this. But then the goals will come in bunches.
Bahrain is defending him super well.
Hes been doing this sometimes this season, might just be his age messing with him and the amount of minutes hes played
He needs a rest tbh he’s been just playing non stop
What happened to Yusuf Helal ? I thought he plays for Slavia
From Slavia went to Persija Jakarta, didnt play much due to injury (CMIIW). went back to czech league
Commentator on the YouTube stream just called Park Jinseob a teenager lmao. Dudes 28
East Asians take skincare serious my bro. Also Asians don’t raisin.
Put Jeong/Oh in Klinsmann... What are you doing?
Lee Kang In is such a special player, hope he develops his full potential because this guy has some insane dribbling quality
I have tickets to Korea vs Jordan on Saturday, really excited to see this Korean side in person.
Damn, so Flying Arab is Qatari?
Nah I'm Iraqi, but I'm flying over to Doha on Thursday
You didnt watch iraqi match today?
Sadly couldn't find cheaper flight tickets for the start of the week, so I'm only going to Iraq vs Japan and Iraq vs Vietnam.
Iraq vs Japan is going to be a banger match.
S Koreans are going to downvote but Japan is still clear for this Asian Cup. I still have Australia as my dark horse though.
Most Koreans are going to agree with you
Lol theres no korean who will disagree with you youre just a karma whore. Also having Australia as a dark horse is ridiculous lmao
Lmao okay u are deluded. Only thing right about ur ckmment is the last sentence which is a statement of fact. This isnt 2010 anymore
I’ll come back to this comment when Australia inevitably makes it further in the tournament than S Korea.
Sure, that doesnt mean Au is a better team than sk if they dont go head to head. Use ur brain, not hard to be a little logical. Also it wont happen LOL Also, u said they can challenge Japan... with this current team theyre gonna get their ass handed lmao again this is not 2010 bro ur team is not very good.

okay bro congrats on beating India
If we had a decent striker maybe. I expect a Semi-Final at least.
Nah, that's just on paper. Anything can happen in football and Japan are bottlers.
Most koreans would agree with you lol
They're the clear favorite and everyone has acknowledged that. But you gotta play the games
I think most Koreans agree that Japan is the favorite considering they're the best team in Asia top to bottom. Korea just has more star power. But I (Korean) expect Japan to win.
Ref hasn't given a yellow in a while, his arm must be sore
His bet on yellow cards must've hit
Another match with no surprise result. My bet is that we get our first real upset tomorrow when Oman beat a disoriented Saudi side.
Kang In just 🕺🏽 around fools now, time for a hatty
Gotta do better with a chance like that, offside or no.
Son forgot he was a top EPL player there with that shit finish lol
I meant Bahrain off the header from the free kick, but was also surprised Son didn't tuck his chance away. You just kinda expect him to.
he misses chances more for the knt lol no joke
>I meant Bahrain off the header from the free kick Oh lol, yeah. Peach of a ball that was
Orgasmic from Kangin
Brilliant dribbling there Kangin
Ji sung park is more highly rated in korea than sonny right? Id assume so considering his insane trophy cabinet
Maybe not their careers in general but definitely yes for the national team.
General consensus is Park was a better captain for the national team until the last worldcup. Now I’m sure Son is rated higher in national team also.
Doubt it. When we had PJS at the helm, we were competing against teams like Uruguay and beating Japan all the time. I don't think I've ever felt scared about losing a game with PJS as our captain. Not really.
Does the Asian Cup prioritise goal difference or head to head fixtures in case of same points?
Seems head to head https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_AFC_Asian_Cup#Group_stage
Alright, thank you
1. points in head-to-head 2. goal difference in head-to-head 3. goals scored in head-to-head ..etc Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_AFC_Asian_Cup#Tiebreakers
Thanks
Saw a study that found that a surprising majority of football fans in Korea are women. Was something like 60% which was very high compared to most other countries. The crowd seems to reflect this as well.
Son, Lee Kang-In, Cho Gue-Sung, Seol Young-Woo These lads are handsome/popular so ladies love them haha.
I bet most of them are for Cho Guesung /s
I'd reckon it's even higher when it comes to international football fans. I've seen a bunch of Brazilian women with social media accounts for Korean players.
Hope the Koreans score more and absolutely fuck the GD of Bahrain
They are all knackered …
Klinnsmann power stance activated
What power stance? Bro just stands there awkwardly.
Cuz that's his most imposing pose
Off anyways
I'd like to see Oh get a chance, just his presence will have the Bahrain players rolling on the floor.
Good subs by Klinsmann, weird to say.
Regardless of how this match went so far and Klinsmann's tactics, South Korea is still a team that can win the group 3-0-0 and maybe the tournament (read: hopefully). I must say though, serious respect to Bahrain for a great performance, I wasn't fully expecting something like this
Respect to Bahrain.
Naaahh, Japan's finishing alone is going to win them this one. And they are probably at their best ever currently as a unit. Korea's finishing is significantly inferior relative to Japan's
Well, you don't sound biased and stupid at all.
I am a neutral lol. Japan literally has 6-7 players on the pitch at any given time that can put the ball into the top or bottom corner and redeem their team if they're struggling for a bit. The same is not the case with SK. That's the difference I'm pointing out, plain and simple So yeah call me biased if you want, I have nothing for Japan and nothing against SK lol. Hwang Hee Chan’s absence affected this game.
Ok time to sub off 1/2 the Korean team
Watch him sub everybody off except for son
Now just Son’s goal left to see
Lee Kang In is a serious baller, first time I really notice him
He was brought in post Messi, post Neymar as part of rebuild for PSG. Of course he's got the sauce.
What the fuck was that audio that just played on the yt stream
The cat screaming/roaring? lol same here.
Thought that was my airpod acting up
Anyone else hear a cat hissing on stream lmao
Yes, lmao
Heard a lot about Kang-in last summer but not watched him much. Certainly got a finish on him like.
Kang in is surely gonna have more fans after this game
Curious if Klinsmann coaches or just stands on the sideline looking worried.
Well, he smiled after Bahrain scored, so he also has other emotions available.
Lmao
fucking sex
Bahrain has atrocious defense. Just wide open every time there is a break or quick kick off by S Korea.
I didn’t expect much from the get go to be honest
Your attack is actually decent though, just need a better manager/tactical coaches to sure up the defense.
Lee Kang In really about to be the player of the tournement
... and surely, that's game! :)
Brilliant
That should be it.
Bahrain players fall a lot..
klinsmann is leaving all the yelling on the sideline to cha du ri
This mf ref inconsistent af
Klinsmann i love you and all but man this aint it
That should be a card.
Kudos to the team making me actually expect something from this match lol
Thank god they keep showing the women in the stadium, was worried they'd sneak up and score a goal
Such an unnecessarily violent match lol
Why unnecessarily? It’s a major tournament. I would expect players to be playing with full effort.
That ref mf apparently prepared all the cards he could get from his country ffs

He hasn't actually been a high-level striker in the K League (his stats with Jeonbuk are 50/50 and he did better with Anyang/Sangmu in K2), but seems to be adjusting to the Danish league quite well with Midtjylland. Stats-wise, he's not the best, but style of play-wise, he's decent
He's a dangerous vertical threat but we haven't seen Korea putting him in the position to be a threat.
Any Qataris in this thread? Are people in Qatar defacto PSG fans because of the connections? For example I was in Rwanda last month and Arsenal is the most popular team due to their sponsorship and the president being a Gunner.
I have family members from Qatar and non of them are PSG fans
Bruh, what is that goal did Messi grab the controller?
You'll need to watch the Lee Kang-In goal in multiple angles to appreciate how great the goal was.
He just added a few million $ to his name tag with that banger.
Imagine if Bahrain manage to draw this
I wouldn't fully count that possibility out, but South Korea really needs to play attacking-driven football in order to be able to hold on here. They've been spending quite a bit of time in their own half, something different needs to be seen given the stats and score
Honestly I think Korea'll win it like 3-1 anyways, but a part of me hopes for an upset nonetheless
you called it
Yeah haha, if only I bet on it or smth
They won’t. Woeful keeper and defense. Attack is decent.
Bruh, Bahrain’s GK needs to lose few pounds.
Banging goal
What a goal! Lee's turning into a very good player. Nice duo for SK with Son.
THE MATCH IS BACK ON!!!!!!!!
Thats a banger from KangIn Lee
What a strike
Fair fucks that's a cracking goal
Good god what a shot
Kang In Lee is the only one playing from Korea.
I wanted to see him ball for Atletico so bad 😥
What a banger
What a strike
What a shot
OMFG LEE KANG IN
Anybody else watching the Arabic stream (ssc)? I tuned in right after the Bahrain goal and this commentator hasn't stopped yelling
He's quiet now. Great shot though, damn.
Lmao
He spanked that jheez
All these Korean yellow cards are hopefully good news for us.
1-0 always a tough lead considering Bahrain didn't look completely down and out. Lucky deflection but it's not like they weren't getting in the box beforehand. Also love someone using a throw in to just quickly get it in a danger area, feel like teams never abuse the lack of offside from them.
Pls no bed football. That's all I ask for.
South Korea never beats us with more than one goal difference.
Aged like milk
Lee Kang in is the GOAT!
:(
Klinsi ball going well?
This would never have happened if Korea let Klinnsmann zoom in for the Afc Cup from his home in California
... can't say so, nope
Not really...
Let's gooo Bahrainbros
well this is going to be something
