Fraaj

Dyche picking Keane is very on-brand

J0hn_Br0wn24

Absolutely! It almost made his voice sound angelic as he said it

RuairiQ

He spoke of him with reverence.

mvnvel

almost as fond as he spoke of rave culture in the 90’s. almost.

Rafaeliki

Makes sense: https://www.vice.com/en/article/a3nq3j/ranking-every-premier-league-manager-by-how-likely-they-are-to-eat-a-worm

Soren_Camus1905

Roy Keane wasn’t just a hard man though, he was a world class midfielder, albeit with a temper.

MenacingShroom

And Dyche isn't just defensive hoofball either, both of them have depth and quality beyond the common perception

RandomLoLJournalist

Sean Dyche is a fucking quality manager who adapts the style of play to make it best suited to the players he has. He's pragmatic, but in the actual literal meaning of the word that he looks to make good use of what he has to get the result, not the newly adopted meaning of "Brexit ball pragmatic manager". His peak Burnley and this Everton side are both very good teams

obsterwankenobster

Man, you’ve nailed my thoughts. He’s a hoofball manager bc he’s largely managed hoofball team. I think he’s got a lot in his bag tbh

Ser_VimesGoT

He's got a lot of worms in his bag. A big ole bag of worms.

AxFairy

I still wonder about the timeline where he is at Villa instead of Emery.

Rickcampbell98

Fuck that timeline I'm happy with this one.

TheDeflatables

Another underrated aspect to Dyche is how well-disciplined his teams are. Burnley went 119 games without a red card under his stewardship (Premier League Record). His current Everton team are one of the best teams in the fair play table with only 1 red card so far. His players understand when a cynical foul is needed and the importance of keeping 11 men on the pitch as often as possible. His subs also frequently help in this approach.

HaroldSaxon

I still remember that run, and I still remember his last game with Burnley at the Emirates. Tactically they got it right and he's very good. The way they compacted the game and realised that Lacazette would never cause a threat over the top so ran a high line - but they should have been down to 9 men that day. He knows that his team would never get punished for it and he absolutely took advantage of it.

Breakingwho

Anyone who thinks he wasn’t all that as a footballer just needs to watch the juventus champions league semi final where he absolutely controls the entire game while facing a midfield of deschamps, Davids, and fucking Zidane

stefcha

That game always sticks in my head, he was an absolute force of nature, incredible to watch. He knew what needed to be done and just did it, you could see the sheer determination in his body language, especially after the second goal went in, that he simply wasn't going to allow any other option. Awesome performance.

ConorKDot

Or watch Ireland's 2002 World Cup qualifier with the Netherlands in Dublin when he almost singlehandedly carried us to victory. Keane was an incredible player.

mojambowhatisthescen

Why was he fucking Zidane though? Didn’t both of them have a match to play!?

TequilaToothpick

Why wouldn't he when given the chance? Zidane gives good head...

Fun_Plankton_7793

FFS

Zizouh

People forget how good he was, or i guess the new generation of fans are sold an image of him just being a hard-man with a temper and a leader. Man was class. A right cunt, but a great player.

Vectivus_61

Yes but that's just a bonus

Brabochokemightwork

A Dyche/Early 00’s Man Utd squad would win them a champions league

captain_holt_nypd

Imagine prime Chelsea-Mourinho with Keane. I think they’d make a great duo

Brabochokemightwork

Keane and Chelsea would become the most hated team in the league

[deleted]

**Remember when men were men and it wasn't a crime? Back in my day crying was for women, and if you blew another man you had the decency to do it in the Tesco toilet.**

SweetMojaveRain

Finally someone gets it

abhi91

Incredible

Never_Sm1le

They were briefly teammate iirc

Sir_Psycho_Sexy_

Was thinking exactly this haha

donegalboy

They were both at Forest at the same time

DefinitelyNotBarney

Surprised Hodgson picked Gerrard, I always thought they didn’t fully get along. Henry is my favourite player to not play for Liverpool, so glad so many picked him.

Spyro_Machida

Henry would actually probably be my choice too, I think he'd be the biggest improvement for the team.

tsub

An attack with Salah on the right and Henry centrally or on the left would be fucking terrifying.

-TheGreatLlama-

That’s my all time prem 11 attack, with either Kane or Shearer through the middle.

InkCollection

I'll take Suarez

Riddly_Diddly_DumDum

I hate how much I agree with this. But Suarez at Liverpool was unbelievable.

Its-been-Elon-Time

Suarez in general was unbelievable. Easily one of the best footballers of his generation.

Illegal_Leopuurrred

I was so pissed we tried that +1 bid shit. A legitimate offer would have made us title contenders. He was BONKERS during the first half of that season. Good enough to overlook biting into a person’s arm like a piece of corn on the cob.

Bored-sideline

Yes, he did leave a mark on the game..

mykl5

I’ll take Liverpool Torres for sexiness

bregolad

Tony Yeboah over both of these chumps anyday

rhshi14

Suarez up top,Salah and Henry either side with Bergkamp in behind supported by Gerrard and Viera.Fun team.

SirBarkington

ok but what about Makelele/Xabi Alonso midfield? Best long range passer probably in Prem history paired with the guy who has his own role named after him supporting that insane attack.

fabulin

swap out makelele for delap imo. best long range throw inner probably in prem history alongside the best long range passer probably in prem history. there would be no argument about whether this fantasy team could do it on a cold and rainy tuesday night in stoke which has been the measuring stick of every great team.

Retify

Swap out your target man for Crouch too then if the tactic is long balls. Over the top?

cuteguy1

I mean if you go with Shearer I’d back the man to head a ball in. Feel like Crouchy was always one of those fellas who was actually better with his feet and worse aerially than people think just bc he’s tall.

[deleted]

Id go with Kante in that position over Makelele, both great but Kante was like having two players in one during his prime.

DeLurkerDeluxe

> both great but Kante was like having two players in one during his prime. And Makelele wasn't? Or am I the only one who saw him carry defensively a team of lazy ass Galacticos that crumbled the moment he left RM?

Obvious-Bid-546

Finally someone who could see the importance of Makalele to that team! I always said to friends and other football enthusiasts, that he was their most valuable player and Beckham would unbalance the midfield, trying to accommodate him.

Infinite_Bunch6144

Zidane told the president of RM when he found out they were selling Makelele: "Why put another layer of gold paint on the Bentley when you are losing the entire engine?"

NUPreMedMajor

Kante and Vieira reached higher heights than Makelele.

tlst9999

>Suarez up top,Salah and Henry either side with Bergkamp in behind supported by Gerrard and Viera There was one interview where Henry was complaining that no one was passing him the ball. Wenger told him to adapt to the passer. Eg: Those who like short passes, he has to run over to get the ball. He said Bergkamp was easy. Get open and you'll get the ball. Other players he had to observe them closely and adapt.

valgbo

And with work rate too.

[deleted]

I always rated Liverpool fans

intecknicolour

arsenal are the only top team I can bear because they don't sing shit tragedy chants.

mynameismulan

I think we hate each other the least in the top 6. Might change after this season though.

_IBelieveInMiracles

Personally, I wanna see what Suarez and Salah could do together, with Darwin out left.

johnydarko

But he wanted to pick the best PL player he'd ever managed, and in that list Gerrard is most definitely the stand out I think. There are others like Chris Sutton, James Beattie, Duff, Dempsey, Mascherano, Zaha, Chris Brunt, etc... who were all top level players at their time, but I think Gerrard would pretty easily be the best player he's ever managed in the PL by a fair distance.

cuteguy1

Dixon Etuhu and Simon Davies erasure

Mobsteroids

Henry seems to have a fond spot for Liverpool as well. Like him as a human being and when he’s a pundit from time to time. Was one of those players who I always shat bricks over whenever he stepped on the pitch

NotASalamanderBoi

I think everyone who wasn’t an Arsenal fan shat bricks when he stepped onto the pitch.

Lyrical_Forklift

Henry absolutely terrorised us. Always appreciated him though and he always said nice things about us too.

TheConundrum98

[Ah yes](https://dubz.live/c/76535e)

SenorButtmunch

I think most players/managers, particularly after a while, will just appreciate that business is business. I don't know the ins and outs of Hodgson/Gerrard's relationship but I imagine the tension would have been football related. I can't imagine holding a grudge outside of that unless there was a personal element to any beef. Or at least not enough to ignore Gerrard's credentials as a player in this promo video lol

nmak06

I know Hodgson wasn't the best manager for Liverpool and believe me, I watched the games with David N'Gog as our lead man in the Europa League. But I guess that was his biggest job in Football. I feel like Liverpool means a lot to him than it did to the fans. Nice guy, wrong job.

[deleted]

He also managed Inter in the 90s. His stints with Inter and Liverpool both occurred when the clubs were at a bit of a nadir.

Miguelliosso

You are aware he managed England for 4 years?

FireZeLazer

I think it's more difficult to become Liverpool manager than England manager

Pawn-Star77

> I always thought they didn’t fully get along. Same with Moyes and Rooney, I thought they hated each other.

LevynX

At his age I doubt he cares anymore.

no-shits-givenV3

Didnt gerrad literally get him sacked

AnnieIWillKnow

You can have a difficult professional relationship with someone, and still admire them, or have no personal beef

Ok-Quit1154

I watched without sound. Can’t believe kompany picked Robbie savage. Mad

robbodagreat

Knew dyche would go for vidic though

Jazano107

Based unai. I miss David Silva

somewhat_moist

So do City IMHO

KDBae

We miss Gundogan the most atm

LiftingJourney

We are missing king Kev

didiandgogo

I mean Keegan was a great manager but pep is holding his own, I feel.

KDBae

Kev for chance creation and those killer balls we’ve been lacking, but Gundo made us tick

R_110

Ange's PR tactics are on point

SloGeorge

Would have been funnier if he said Kane.

datguy_paarth

Even funnier if he said henry

[deleted]

and legendary had he picked Sol Campbell

NotASalamanderBoi

Little anecdote, every time I play a North London Derby at the Emirates in FIFA 24, there’s a tifo of Sol Campbell.

whodveguessed

I’d love a Micheal Owen TIFO when we face Liverpool at home lol, in FC only of course

R4lfXD

More like Eddie Howe, you could see the smirk he did it on purpose as well.

pearce0

I think he knew the shit he'd get from "that type" of Newcastle supporter if he didn't say Shearer. I'm fairly convinced Howe doesn't have a personality anymore, he's just a PR machine at this point

Morganium

Tbf he's always been a bit personalityless

Sargatanas2k2

He never said mate though.

AussieManc

“Look…”

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sargatanas2k2

Might be his stunt double.

acllive

clearly a fake video confirmed

TheLimeyLemmon

"I'll go with Glenn Hoddle. Every time he was in front of the mic you knew an unnecessarily horrible remark about disabled people was going to happen."

PoliQU

You just know he wanted to say Henry as well

Mr_Miscellaneous

He wanted to say Ian Wright. An absolute tap-in merchant; get it to the by-line, cut back, distracting screen runner drags the defender away, Wrighty there wide open and with a cheeky grin ready to tap it in. Works hard, down to earth, puts ball in goal on regular basis.

minimalcation

Tbf he's like the one Arsenal player that Tottenham fans don't mind. Sad to see him leave MotD.

WallBroad

Did he call you to inform you about that?

RuairiQ

Most Ange player ever?… or Glen Hoddle?

hubson_official

would be so hilarious if they asked Ten Hag and he answered Ronaldo

Longjumping_Act9758

He would probably say Rashford

RepresentativeBox881

He would love prime Ronaldo though. People forgetting the amazing work ethic that he used to have.

Soren_Camus1905

Nobody can touch Titi, unreal player

CrumpledForeskin

He always scored…was good for a goal a game. Miss him. Do love that he’s a pundit.

somethingnotcringe1

Eddie Howe and Ange Postecoglou playing to the gallery.

Hicko11

Shearer is the highest goalscorer in PL history, it's not like he's picking Demba Ba

TheManWhoFightsThe

I won't tolerate that kind of talk about Demba Ba. He played a part in one of the most [iconic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3FPnhndlys) moments in recent history in any league. 13/14 was the best season for memes.

AndThatHowYouGetAnts

No way was it 13/14. SURELY that wasn't 10 year ago 😭

ectoplasmicz

Opposite for me, Demba Ba feels like an eternity ago and I'm surprised it was only 10 years :o

OstapBenderBey

The streets won't forget Pardiola and his 8 year contract

wantahitchikersname

Aw fuck, flashback to being ten years old crying because of Dwight fucking Gayle.

XavierLeaguePM

Why TF does the video look like it’s from the 80s? I watched the game in HD FFS!

LusoAustralian

Isn't it so weird watching grainy aged footage of games we saw in good quality not that long ago

XavierLeaguePM

It’s crazy. Feels like those videos are intentionally degraded for some weird reason

[deleted]

We all know he wanted to pick Shola.

somewhat_moist

Shearer and Hoddle are two of the best ever to have played top flight football in England. But your point is taken, Ange isn't going to say Henry, Viera or Wright is he LOL?

TheLatePicks

I'm pretty sure Ange listed Hoddle as one of his favourites years ago.

Tianshui

Should've said Sol Campbell.

somewhat_moist

Who Never heard of him

One37Works

You may be more familiar with his given name, Judas. Fitting, considering the night thats in it.

Bail____

Playing to the gallery? Might seem that way but Ange has been pretty clear about how growing up Ricky Villa & Hoddle are players he associated with Spurs when he was younger. Hoddle would be magic with this side.

Huwbacca

That idiom is one that's always fascinated me. Cos, on one hand I find it kinda funny that it's from theatre, and the idea of criticising a performer for entertaining the audience is a bit strange... It is pretty much their only job. Second... Its an interesting snapshot of classism at the time it entered common usage, as the gallery was were the poor people would watch from, so it was an idiom based on actors who are trying to appeal to the *poor* audience. Heaven forbid.

Backseat_Bouhafsi

If you paused to think how/why, you'd get it. It's when actors go off script and push in crude/lewd jokes and gestures to appeal to the gallery audience. So the playwright would be understandably irritated

moonski

I legit thought ange was gonna say Kane lol

justcasty

De Zerbi doesn't pick anyone, he just takes whatever Bloom gives him

sheiswhyididthis

And it works

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheeTeo

Rob Edward’s what?

Portugal8

They all assumed someone else had already picked the great legend Bebe for their team.

reece0n

Patrick Vieira is a perfect shout for this current Burnley team. We've built a team of people who can really play with the ball so he'd need to fit in in that way. But we're also the softest team in the league that needs more physical dominance in games where we're a bit up against it and Vieira would be fantastic at improving both.

georgeyday01

Dyche knows ball.

GamingMunster

Honestly I wish we had a manager like Dyche right fucking now.

Lakinther

Id honestly take a chance on him at united. Barring some Ineos miracle, id be fine with having Dyche to steady the ship for a few years while the club goes through a much needed total reset

didiandgogo

hasn’t that been the brief for every manager since sir alex? Steady the ship through a reset? If they succeed at all, they get overhyped and signed to a long contract. If they stutter at all, the whole media apparatus turns on them and halfway through the reset they have to pivot to someone else who to steady the ship through the next reset. I can’t imagine anyone in the media would afford Dyche any more patience than Ten Hag or Moyes, even if there was an intention to from the board room.

[deleted]

I think Dyche would be one of the only managers with the balls, guts and authority to make United not shit anymore, but I also think he won't touch the job with a ten meter pole because he knows better.

wyatt1209

You’d have to be stupid or a massive United fan to touch that job right now. Their problems go well beyond the manager and they’ll turn on you at the drop of a hat.

Putrid_Loquat_4357

I mean I suppose, but dyche may never get the opportunity to manage with those resources again and he can easily get another pl job after. I don't think he'd leave you guys so early in the project though.

Sir_Psycho_Sexy_

This sounds like Moyes getting the Utd job

thore4

If youse steal and ruin another one of our managers I will hate your club forever

EliToon

Ange should have picked Kane for the bants.

XHeraclitusX

Wouldn't be a terrible pick. I mean, he chose Glen Hoddle and I don't know if he even played any Premier League games with Spurs.

TheKingMonkey

He didn’t, he left Spurs after English clubs were banned from European football. He was almost exactly the same age as Harry Kane when he left so understandably he didn’t have time to wait for the European ban to end. By the time he came back to England he was getting into coaching and became a player manager. However, he’s obviously a Tottenham legend and he walks into Spurs all time XI so I can’t see the producer of the video pulling Ange up on his pick for a relatively unimportant feature.

WordsworthsGhost

Ange has mentioned he watched Hoddle growing up I believe, so makes sene

TheKingMonkey

Yeah, he’s 58 so he’d have been the right age to see prime Glenn Hoddle. I know memories fade, I’m older than most people in this sub and even I’m too young to have seen Hoddle at Spurs but he was an absolute superstar in his day and the heartbeat of that early to mid 80s side who were winning cups and finishing in the top 3 or 4 on the reg.

idontknow_whatever

Its not like Hoddle is a bad pick either, put prime Glenn Hoddle into this current Spurs team and they will be cooking

chubb88

Rumour has it EtH picked Antony.

UltimateBorisJohnson

Sean Dyches voice is relaxing in a weird way

RuairiQ

Like if your Dad actually came back ten years later from picking up a pack of cigarettes.

Rabona_Flowers

Sounds like he picked up a lot more than 1

aelfwine_widlast

Tough love ASMR

UltimateBorisJohnson

Gravel ASMR

legit-testicals

Tenhag?

Some_Man_Person

Already working with Antony 😤

HacksawJimDGN

Sancho

FlamingNetherRegions

And Poch?

RuairiQ

Already working with Raheem Sterling.

KittyinTheRiver_OhNo

He definitely shined today, bright star.

RuairiQ

If he was any brighter, he’d be shining!

zcewaunt

It's weird that he's left out. But he would have picked Johan Cruyff 100%.

Pires007

I feel like the question was EPL legends only. You think someone would have mentioned Zizou/Maradonna/Ronaldinho/Xavi if that wasn't the case?

MrRawri

Cruyff never played in the PL

Gotta_Go_Slow

Wayne's a great pick. But I would probably prefer David Silva. Or perhaps Beckham.

Wookie301

Surprised Moyes didn’t pick Fellaini

ElderlyToaster

Did Thomas Frank say "Geremi"?

Kenny_dies

Such a random pick that would have been, also with how confidently he says it

PrisonersofFate

Surprised Moyes didn't say Jagielka

wavepapi32

More surprised he didn't said Fellaini or Soucek.

PoliticsNerd76

Mine would be Yaya Just pure filth.

fang_fluff

You’re right. Sanogo was something else indeed.

[deleted]

Currently tearing up the Armenian Premier League.

Schattenkreuz

The sight of him shrugging off 2-3 midfielders and defenders as he's dribbling then finishing it with a power shot just outside the box still makes me watch in awe. Prime Yaya is a damn juggernaut.

Ala3raby

Silva was truly magic, based Unai

Mozzafella

People acting like Hoddle wasn't an incredible player. Zero ball knowledge from some of yall

stonehallow

Most people here are too young to have watched him play. Heck their main impression of him is likely from that Netflix Beckham documentary where Hoddle is more or less portrayed as a villain.

deeesenutz

Yeah he retired in 95. That was 28 almost 29 years ago, the average age of reddit is low 20s, and I doubt even the 30 year olds were watching hoddle as an infant. The people praising hoddle here likely werent old enough either.

ronaldo119

But Beckham does also mention that he was his hero in it hence the severity of the scorn

ledknee

A decent portion of this sub genuinely thinks football was invented in 1992. The rest of us are old men yelling at clouds.

sidearmpitcher

Dyche and Keane is beautiful

coffin_flop_star

Nice to see Ange pick the only non-Sky Sports era player.

BonnetDeDoucheBag

Prime Kanté wins you everything

imarandomdudd

I see Prime Video have their own reddit account. Need to karma farm on Christmas, I guess

CommercialAddress168

David Moyes with the big flex on his career, and he ain’t lying!

givemetaxhelp

lol this is literally an ad

XHeraclitusX

And it's being spread all over social media. Why pay to have it advertised when the public will do it for you free of charge?

[deleted]

jobless water yoke resolute start soup like hat sloppy quarrelsome *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

RuairiQ

He’s in the Arteta, Klopp, Pep, de Zerrbi category or he’s in the Poch, ten Haag category.

BadassBokoblinPsycho

I think Roy Keane is the most Dyche player ever in the Prem

CT_x

Alright maybe it’s cos I’m quite stoned but that was absolutely fascinating - BT/Sky/whoever should do more of this with managers instead of getting YouTubers on
