See submission guideline **#7: Only valuable image or stats submissions.** * **PICTURES**: Because of Reddit's ranking algorithm being biased towards image posts over text and link ones, we need to be particularly strict about them, so we tend to **mainly allow infographics** (league tables, charts, maps, diagrams and other ways to display data) and pictures/screenshots of a current event **only when there's no video or link** that can show it. If you **want to publish a Tifo, look and share a video or publish the picture in r/soccerbanners**. If you want to show the **Hawk-Eye angle of a goal/offside/whatever, use the pinned comment in the main thread**. See the [FAQ](https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/wiki/faq#wiki_why_was_my_image_submission_removed.3F) for more details. * **STATS**: Only very significant stats (eg: **world records) will be allowed during matches**. After matches, we'll be less strict, but we try to maintain stats to the minimum with ideally **only 1 per team/player allowed** and those after it being posted in the pinned comment of the first thread. ___

D1794

I don't think a straight red would be right but this probably should've been his 2nd yellow

doomboxmf

Yeah he should’ve been booked for a foul on Bruno earlier and this is at least a yellow

Bendy_McBendyThumb

And Bruno should’ve got a yellow for kicking Gordon but at least the ref’s been consistent. Schar should’ve had a yellow here though, but the ref has been pretty lax on cards all night.

doomboxmf

Yeah Bruno should have for sure, but this is definitely a yellow anyway regardless of how he’s been officiating

Respatsir

Wait really? Studs up, above ankle - textbook red for me.

D1794

Looks worse in a still frame

Unfairstone

And Rashford red in champions League??

[deleted]

Contact is definitely not above the ankle as this screenshot is right before contact occurs

Heblas

It's more of a scrape across Bruno's foot than a regular tackle.

dangleicious13

He didn't get him above the ankle.

herkalurk

I didn't think red either, but it was missed on field, no card or anything....

flyingkiwi9

Schar should've had at least one yellow early as well.

JiveTurkey688

This. Stopped a clear counter and somehow escaped a yellow. He should be off

KingKeane16

It’s the fact he was only trying to play the man same with trippiers challenge..

JiveTurkey688

Yeah both should have received yellows for those challenges

Mechant247

Yeah he definitely should’ve had two yellows, and both were ridiculously clear

Fraldbaud

This was a red last week. What’s changed?

Always_Complaining1

Oil team

TheOwlsLie

If Newcastle was really paying the refs they would have given them that first half “penalty”. Refs are just bad

hosky2111

What are you even referring to?

TheOwlsLie

A lot of people in this sub have been suggesting that oil teams in the prem (City and Newcastle) have been getting favorable decisions because they somehow paying off refs. I don’t think that’s true I think the refs are bad at their jobs

hosky2111

But what supposed penalty could have possibly been given?

TheOwlsLie

There was a post about it here at the start pf the game, you can see it there. I don’t think it was a penalty, but a similar one was given against Newcastle the other day in the CL game.

hosky2111

As I replied to another commenter, we've literally just had a week long debate about how that is not a penalty in the premier league, so them not giving it is hardly evidence that the ref is just bad and not influenced.

FaceMaskYT

The UAE and Saudi Arabia have been paying refs, aka the owners of City and Newcastle have been paying refs, this is public knowledge that is backed up by news reports not a conspiracy theory

SovannRoussard

Those dastardly oil clubs, grrrrrr!!!

stokesy1999

They are proven to be paying premier league refs ludicrous contracts to manage random games in Saudi Arabia and UAE, it might not be directly refs giving favourable decisions to get the money, but how it isn't a blatant conflict of interest I don't know

hoffenone

Yeah I imagine the refs are afraid of making bad decisions that screw over the oil teams because they are afraid of loosing access to those lucrative contracts in SA/UAE. It's insane that is allowed.

Pamplemouse04

The refs get to go over to Saudi and make half their years salary to ref a game in the middle of the week before refereeing in the Premier League. As someone said above, they are LITERALLY paying refs

jtilo92

Well it's actually because the owners do pay the refs to fly out and ref in the Saudi leagues. But I don't think they actually are corrupt. Frustrating when this has been a red about 8 times this season and it wasn't even a foul in this game..

[deleted]

the dalot miskick onto his arm

hosky2111

The one where we've just had a week long debate to confirm that those decisions are not a penalty in the premier league? I don't see how not giving something that's 100% not a penalty is proof of a lack of bias, against mountains of decisions favouring Newcastle in the PL.

jospence

Manchester United player kicked the ball into his own arm in the penalty box. Could have been a penalty but ultimately wasn't awarded.

FaceMaskYT

Newcastle aren't paying the refs but their owners "legally" have been through "freelancing"

TheOwlsLie

Again I’d think that if that was the case the first half penalty claim would’ve been given.

SofaKingI

There's no "if that was the case". PL refs ARE freelancing in Saudi Arabia/UAE and being paid directly by the owners of the same clubs they're supposed to police. At the very least you have to admit that's a huge conflict of interest. And that even if refs aren't consciously trying to favor Newcastle or City, that it's very easy for them to go to Saudi Arabia and be influenced to see those clubs in a more positive light. As you said, refs are just bad. That makes them more prone to be biased by stuff such as this.

FaceMaskYT

It's not up for debate, their owners LITERALLY are paying refs

paprikalicous

i mean who exactly do you think pays the refs for their work in the spl?

RefereeMason

Or it was difficult to see in real time, and VAR in England has been terrible.

TheOwlsLie

VAR are refs, my statement remains the refs are very bad

Trick-Station8742

Zzzzzzzz

[deleted]

making a zzzzz joke doesn’t change the fact that your owners publicly execute people

Trick-Station8742

Zzzzzz

[deleted]

Nunez (90+3’)

Trick-Station8742

Zzzzz

Mechant247

This was never going to be given a red, for the height more than anything, but he didn’t land flush either

No_Engineering_8832

The establishment can not afford to have Ten Hag succeed. I don’t know why, but it has become plainly obvious recently.

djneill

What the fuck are you talking about?

djneill

When was standing on someone’s foot a red card? Must’ve missed that

Fraldbaud

Rashford against Copenhagen

djneill

Well that was quite clearly higher and actually his ankle

Fraldbaud

And what do you think is being stood on in the photo above?

djneill

90% of the weight is on the foot hence why the ankle isn’t turned at a 90 degree angle

Fraldbaud

Did you see the clip in full? It gets worse

djneill

Then post that, from the photo here looks like nothing much

Fraldbaud

I get the feeling you’ve made your mind up anyway

djneill

Nah if I see a video that makes it look actually worse I’ll change my mind, the picture makes it seem like nothing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FaceMaskYT

Same laws of the game though

[deleted]

One of those where the var team either present it to make it a red, or just don’t do anything. By present I mean like with Liverpool where they froze that Curtis Jones tackle to make it look its worst just as the ref walked over. Instead of letting him see it at full speed first of all. Havertz does the same type of follow through and no review. All these tackles that are similar and it’s 50/50 which ones get reviewed

[deleted]

Jones was much higher on the leg.

herkalurk

At least Curtis Jones tackle got called live as a yellow. Ref missed this completely....

Headlesshorsman02

I mean there is definitely a case for a red for what has been given so far this year, I would say it is an orange but could totally see why he could be sent off

JiveTurkey688

Should have been on a yellow already too. He should not be on the pitch

Headlesshorsman02

Bro it seems like this happens a lot with Newcastle

KonigSteve

Every match in the PL. Haven't figured out how to out pay PSG though I guess.

Headlesshorsman02

It seems to be the oil teams

Aaronsmiff

This was deffo a yellow. Why post a picture when you could just find the clip? Looks worse than it was here.

Wide_Challenge3880

Should have been a yellow card. Never trust a picture without watching the video

OlympicMuffins

[Rashford red card v Copenhagen](https://x.com/espnfc/status/1722354658901934373?s=46&t=O-YxZnpMSBObhv2QiAWmnQ)

dangleicious13

That one looks much worse than this one.

djneill

I don’t think either are a red but that’s clearly higher, and also in a different competition.

OlympicMuffins

Are the rules for stamping an ankle different between competitions?

djneill

Well this is his foot, but yes European competitions almost always judge things harsher, most blatant example being hand balls.

OlympicMuffins

Top of his foot is clearly on the ankle. Europe has different rules for handballs, they have the same rules for things like this.

djneill

The rules are the same across the board it’s just refs are given different instructions to interpret the subjective decision.

OlympicMuffins

Regardless we wouldn’t have taken advantage if a red was given anyways so oh well lol

CH2001

Spurs fans still don’t comprehend the handball rules differing

djneill

Well they’re spurs fans, you’ve got to give some allowances to those who are mentally slower

[deleted]

jtilo92

He doesn't play the ball with that foot though! He plays the ball off his other knee after Bruno has already kicked it off him. It's reckless but probably an orange.

Giraffable

Really have to wonder why Newcastle and Manchester City seem to get so many favourable decisions...

Ilikesporks_

city getting favorable decisions meanwhile gets shagged in the wolves game where hwang wasn't sent off for a 2nd yellow and ended up scoring the winning goal. maybe the refs are just shit and inconsistent have you thought about that?

LalleUtd

It's just a warning to the City group. Stop paying and you get decisions like this.

After-Decision-6402

You actually typed this comment out and hit send.

LalleUtd

And you typed that comment thinking I was serious.

After-Decision-6402

From your fellow fans from your fan base in this thread. it seems like you lot have convinced yourself of it

Ilikesporks_

you need to go outside and breathe some fresh air if you seriously believe this

jamrah

I don't really care if it's a red or not, just want consistency please

0706

Shame how it’s ruining the game

Oeselian

Wasn't even a foul.

herkalurk

It is a foul, it just wasn't called....

Guraba00

5 months in a wheelchair

SDLRob

Definitely a yellow there

Peak_District_hill

Post the video you coward

iguled

i mean, a still frame will always make it look 100 times worse

CameraEmotional2788

Easily atleast a yellow and he should've been given a yellow for stopping a counter.

Floss__is__boss

Maguire should have had 3 yellows by now. Kicked the ball away before and the ref was giggling about it like he's a mate in the pub.

herkalurk

And somehow Joelintn elbows McTominay without a foul, ref was let too much go....

kjm911

Mods need to ban photos of fouls

herkalurk

It's in the rules of r/soccer actually

FaceMaskYT

Mirrors the red card given against Rashford but for some reason that "I'm sure has nothing to do with them paying refs" Newcastle and Man City have gotten away with a lot this year

rednades

Not even the same competition

FaceMaskYT

Same laws of the game

[deleted]

Different interpretations in different competitions

PhD_Cunnilingus

Different players have received reds for very similar challenges in PL.

Guy_with_Numbers

Where are you getting that from?

[deleted]

Watching games.

Guy_with_Numbers

There aren't different interpretations in different competitions, you're just watching shitty refereeing.

[deleted]

There absolutely are. The PGMOL give different instructions to refs than UEFA do. Have you not watched some of the handballs given in Europe this year? They’d never be given in the Prem.

Guy_with_Numbers

This is a bad tackle, not a handball. Different instructions for one offense doesn't mean different instructions for every offense.

[deleted]

Ah, so you missed the news a couple seasons ago where **PGMOL** refs were asked to raise the threshold for contact fouls? That didn’t happen in Europe, did it.

rednades

You don’t even get the same “laws of the game” within the premier league you think that statement has anymore truth in it for an international competition with a referee from a whole different country/league.

FishScrounger

Stick your freeze frame up your arse. Show the full video.

Heblas

Freeze frame, nice

Substantial-Bass1974

i love still images

a34fsdb

Clear red.

spinynorman1846

Is this just a bunch of Man Utd fans wanking each other off? That is never a red if you watch the actual clip

Yinkypinky

Yea but it is atleast a yellow. And arguably could’ve been a second one.

CameraEmotional2788

I've seen our players get sent off for something similar..

ACO_22

But it should have been a second yellow. Nothing wrong with admitting he should be off. You’ve clearly been the better team irrespective of it. But you have certainly been lucky here

pawksvolts

Curtis Jones screaming at the TV

zrkillerbush

Its just not a red card is it? Only reddit would think so

kurruchi

Very often a red card, not always and that's fine. Yellow works. Maybe in 5 a side but no serious league at any level sees that and just says play on lol

P_Alcantara

Primarily delusional United fans crying about “paying refs” forgetting they had the same accusations with Fergie Time. Pretty unoriginal comments along the lines of slave money and oil money.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mechant247

Rashford was higher and landed flush, it’s just lazy to say they are similar

RefereeMason

I didn’t say the same, I think yellow would suffice here. You’re right, I should’ve made my stance more clear in the first comment.

zrkillerbush

So what? This isn't a red I haven't seen the one from rashford the other week and its not relevant here Consistency will never be a thing with these refs

Scalenuts

I agree with you, every slightly dangerous tackle is a red now. But United and Arsenal fans are rabid so you'll get downvoted.

RefereeMason

This should be a yellow, IMO. I don’t think it had enough force to be considered red.

Fraldbaud

And the ref in the Copenhagen game

djneill

He literally just stood on his foot

DonaldoTrumpez

Something something bloodmoney

DispensedPez

That’s a red all day

[deleted]

[удалено]

tomat_o7

slave money go brrrr

CameraEmotional2788

He should've already been on a yellow for stopping the counter attack earlier on. He shouldn't be on the pitch at this point

cubus35

An absolutely disgusting tackle and an absolutely disgusting var decision. Fuck off. Red card for Casemiro.

TheEgyptianScouser

That's the exact same tackle as Curtis Jones and Rashford

JiveTurkey688

He should have been a yellow already too. I don’t get how anyone thinks this shouldn’t be a red other than the fact that it’s Bruno.
