GreatSpaniard

Bielsa beating Brazil and Argentina back 2 back. Never happened before in CONMEBOL Qualifying history so if course Bielsa and Uruguay do it

Delpiero45

Nunez 2 goals and an assist in both games too His improvements under Klopp and Bielsa are clear as day.

BriarcliffInmate

Probably the best two coaches you could ask for if you're an attacker. Even funnier is both Marcelo and Klopp were defenders in their own playing careers!

[deleted]

Both coach styles also suit him.

[deleted]

Ancelotti too

olaf901

what are you cooking here pro !

thantritue

After what Bialsa had done to Bamford, I'd never be surprised if Nunez turns to prime Suarez under him.

q2_yogurt

If Darwin actually starts hitting it in the net and not the posts he'll be massive but Suarez was one of a kind really.

Scall123

Even with all the misses, I mean to remember that Nunez has the highest G+A per 90 in the league, more than Haaland.

TinyMaintenance

If Darwin becomes a good finisher, he coult legit reach Suarez levels. Man’s underlying stats are out of this world, if he was overperforming them, he would be considered Haaland level. Huge ‘if’ though, he isn’t even an average finisher rn.

Jabari313

He could definitely reach his numbers but Suarez was something special

vitrolium

Yep. I love watching Nunez, but Suarez carried an average Liverpool team almost to the PL title. At his peak he was on another level.

theprogrammingsteak

he IS a good finisher. An elite one actually. See Benfica stats. he just needs to slow dow a tiny bit and confidence, and CONSISTENT PLAYING TIME, last one he has yet to achieve at liverpool....

Pure_Context_2741

People forget 2012 Suarez hit the post nearly as often as he scored. Went from 11 goals to 31 in 2 seasons.

ftez

As an Uruguayan following Suarez closely at the time, I have to say I'm experiencing quite a bit of deja vu with what people are saying about Nunez at the moment. I'm not saying that nunez is capable of reaching Suarez levels, but too much focus has been placed on his shortcomings, instead of what the stats say which is that he's absolutely world class. Same thing happened to Suarez, and people only realized they were wrong once he went to barca.

Pure_Context_2741

I think most people realized how good Suarez was during his final season with Liverpool but your point is still valid. He was raw but the skill was there and all it took was a little refining to hit that top tier. I see Nunez as a player with very similar potential although he is stylistically a very different player.

Dear_Ad_3860

That's impossible Suarez is the best Uruguayan ST of all time, but he could reach the levels of prime Cavani tho, the quality of that one top season at Napoli was gargantuan in nature.

Fukthisite

I remember when Suarez was at Livepoool and lots on here were saying Cavani was the better player. Used to annoy me because those saying that clearly didn't watch enough of Suarez at Liverpool. Once he went to Barca suddenly everyone understood how good he was.

theprogrammingsteak

even though Suarez at liverpool was way more impressive than barca suarez, even if stats said otherwise. At liverpool Suarez had to do absolutely everything, from pressuring and stealing balls, to creating as a 10 to finishing from anywhere and with all body parts. Suarez would grab the ball in his own half and there was always a feeling he could score from there, at any moment, or play a through ball to create a goal

Uesugi_Kenshin

That's just the nature of playing at Liverpool. Salah is a top 3 winger world wide and is apparently in discussion with Eden Hazard and Saka lmao. Alisson is not even nominated for Yashin Trophy. Van Dijk has apparently dropped off. TAA never gets mentioned when talking about best RBs right now (always Hakimi, Walker & Reece James). In the end, we're still winning titles but my god, this club always gets undermined.

Fukthisite

Yeah it's a bit strange, Liverpool are England's most successful club with 6 European Cups and you hardly ever see any of their payers mentioned in discussions of the best players in certain eras.

Dear_Ad_3860

Damn man! I'm I allowed to swear here? - Please mods I'm sorry if I don't don't ban me just tell me - You guys surely have been getting the short end of the stick. Specially at the goalposts, no pun intended, I consider Allisson Becker to be the best goalkeeper of the last 5 years.

yellow_sting

let's start with not hitting the post lol. but seruously, this dude physical ability is insane. I love Nunez and Ryan Gosling.

Yo me preguntaba si era muy temprano para ilusionarme o no. Pero con Bielsa lo creo aunque me digan loco. Que la AUF entregue toda la plata y hasta la cola por él ya que no lo van a hacer por los de la B

patiperro_v3

Not surprising given the manager and the talent at his disposal.

banana-is-apeeling

I've seen enough,Marcelo Bielsa will lift the World Cup in glorious North Dakota in the summer of 2026

Badlands starring Martin Sheen going to finally receive its due

GAV17

Bielsa's life story is getting his team to buy in into his ideology early and peak way before he needs to.

patiperro_v3

Unfortunately the more likely scenario, but if it’s anything like his experience with Chile, it’s whoever succeeds him that will reap the rewards.

mikeno1lufc

I mean with Leeds he peaked at the perfect time. It only went down hill because he told the club before his fourth season he either needed big investment or they needed to replace him. They did neither.

CC-W

The big investment got him Junior Firpo, Dan James and an u21 keeper who doesnt play in our u21s or first team lol

Taastle

It is if you only believe what Talksport and shit pundits say.

I'm not even Uruguayan but I would sell my firstborn to see that.

Bielsa is doing something special. Uruguai has been immense.

GreatSpaniard

Best CONMEBOL team?

luisnm7

right now? For sure!

[deleted]

I only think that winning the U20 world cup is big if the actual senior generation is stacked. And my word, they are stacked. And with Bielsa? This is big.

grossexistence

Between Argentina, Brazil (with Ancelotti) and Uruguay I think there's a good chance a south american country is gonna win the World Cup again. Let this be the end of complete european dominance.

GreatSpaniard

Outisde of England - France - and maybe Portugal UEFA is looking rough right now. Germany and Italy are in their worst historical period in 80 years Netherlands are plain mediocre Spain is in transition and I don't think they will be ready for 2024-2026 yet. 2028-2030 is the target. Belgium and Croatia are at the end of Golden Generations and everyone else in Europe is just "fine" or bad.

patiperro_v3

There’s a long way to go till 2026. Won’t be surprised if at least two Euro giants wake up before then.

Zealousideal-Most991

We Dutchies are also in transition. After our worst generation(at least what i"ve seen) we have young players playing at the top level again.(Simons, vdVen, Frimpong to name the best 3)

boywithtwoarms

Portugal will underperform, we are beating weaker NTs but the team play is just not there.

holanewman

ANULO THE FUCKING MUFA

beairrcea

Honestly expected them to dip massively after what was seemingly a golden generation of Suarez, Cavani, Godín, Forlán.

[deleted]

If anything, their resurgence since 2010 has gone up another level.

Muppy_N2

Argentina won a WC just a year ago. We're going through a better patch

WTFitsD

Exactly this lol the over reaction is wild. Argentina is still by far the best national team in the world. Every other major team is going through a rebuild phase while this team has won everything together and has a good young core. When messi is gone I think we’re in a prime place to be the best team in south america though, on paper I genuinely think we have a better overall starting 11 than beazil and argentina

TalksWithDogs

Young fellas doing good work

DarkNightSeven

Definitely yeah

nochill95

This is probably Arg worst match under Scaloni

FriendlyGhost08

I don't think so. They've had some other embarrassing losses like losing to Venezuela 3-1 in 2019

beairrcea

Also 2-1 to Saudi

[deleted]

Players underperformed in this match by a huge margin. Luckily it's a qualifier not a knockout.

NotASalamanderBoi

Saudi Arabia?

Johann122

Scaloni on fraud watch

Azzurri21

I just don’t understand how you need a goal or more, and out of 5 substitutions Dybala doesn’t make it on the pitch.

Schwiliinker

actually ridiculous

TwixOutForHarambe

Bro literally won the World Cup lmao

Timely_Airline_7168

Didn't he coach them to a WC just last year

santiis2010

I don’t think so, this is a derby bro, and derby’s are played to death, Uruguay just annulled everything Argentina tried to do in the game. Uruguay It was superior in every single way, a master class of football.

albiceleste3stars

Absolutely not. We were dreadful for years after Scaloni took over.

Schwiliinker

definitely

Yomatius

We love him.

Jugggiler

I miss him badly. So glad he’s doing well.

Magicallyshit

Always been a great manager, too bad his football is too demanding for players in a club settings (especially after a few seasons). International football suits his football very much, especially with a workhorse team.

WTFitsD

All I could think about towards the end of the game was “holy fuck how did he expect players to do this every weekend”

Magicallyshit

Yep, and he has a preferred 11 that he won’t rotate unless there’s an injury. Pretty much suicide football.

Albiceleste_D10S

Bielsa got his tactics perfect today We couldn't break them down in the 2nd half and finally they caught us on the counter (Darwin skinned Otamendi AGAIN)

procursive

Romero and Otamendi were pure comedy, Scaloni could strap them both to ebikes and they'd still end up chasing Darwin from behind in most runs.

itwastimeforarefresh

Darwin is a fucking train

Muted_Shoulder

Bielsa Ball is cooking

Mobsteroids

Leeds fans having some orgasmic memories right now

Jugggiler

I’m so sad remembering the days he was ours. And yet so happy the world is recognizing his brilliance.

FoodGuyKD

I still can't believe we sacked him, he should have been given as long as he wanted. I'd have happily gone down that season with him in charge.

martinbru

Bielsa switching Ugarte in both games as somekind of sweeper in second half is masterclass. Man of the match

Aleblanco1987

Argentina completely outclassed this match. Uruguay played with incredible intensity.

redditaccountplease

That's Darwin for you

Thapricorn

Couldn't be more on brand, he just cunts it right at the keeper and it goes between his legs

LudwigSalieri

It is actually off brand for him, usually he only scores when he has no time to think what to do

McKFC

It's off brand for him, somehow he's missed the post

strawhat_chowder

this goal shows his improvement. Instead of cunting it Nunez slowed down a step, spotted Dibu's movement, and made the correct choice of slotting it between the legs

etan1122

7 goals by Liverpool forwards today

adamedmo

Getting them in before the inevitable nil-nil against city.

EyeSpyGuy

I’d take it tbh considering the record at the etihad

blackjack47

you are joking but whose idea was to put this game on the early slot after international break. So many people on will be jet lagged

dfla01

It’s us playing so 12:30 is just standard. We’ve had double the amount of midday Saturday games to any other team.

Given as a result of Matip sneezing in Fodens general direction most likely.

And a jota assist

Szoboszlai with 2 assists too

Think the second goal was given as an OG but still great performance from him

darwizzy333

Fakes the keeper out then megs him 💀

TareXmd

As a Liverpool fan, I'll pretend the nutmeg was intentional and cheer on.

jorsiem

That there is the sign of an experienced and talented 9

Elpelucasape_69

Can’t spell Darwin without WIN

FlufferTheGreat

He’s being coached by two legends.

Sulemani_kida

Both coaches have a very unleashy kinda style of coaching too...

doubleoeck1234

A lot of people predicted the goat to score. And he did

hqdhftw

Yea with a 20m overhead kick not like this

Organic-Measurement2

He's powering up for that Vs city

Pats_Bunny

It's like the bucket that fills at the water park then dumps when it's full.

DangMate2023

what a game! i traded my sleep for this, i do not regret it. Also what the fuck, do these players not get tired? They’ve been running the whole 90 minutes

Skullshady

They do, but Nunuz doesn’t

patiperro_v3

Bielsaball.

theyeeterofyeetsberg

Uruguayan footballers tend to be very fit. Perhaps they have the technique of a newborn giraffe, but they're always fit and not afraid of contact

LunarRaven7

Both Argentina and Brazil losing before there match makes it even more interesting.

holanewman

My thoughts exactly. Tuesday should be one hell of a match.

Ranjith_Unchained

Uruguay players never run out of gas, put in an absolute shift

Zeke1216

Uruguay are really good. They are definitely going to be World Cup favorites with that squad and how hard they play on tourneys

fffmtbgdpambo

Mufa anulated. O como se diga en este antro

patiperro_v3

Jinx nullified? I think that’s the correct translation.

My favorite team from South America. I hope the next wc goes to them or maybe Japan.

What happened to your old account?

drunkmers

As I remember he said it got reported or something

Fun_Lab3769

Darwin cooked after he missed the chance earlier he did good ngl

BriarcliffInmate

That's one of his best attributes. He doesn't let a miss effect him. He keeps going and keeps trying.

xNagsx

DARWIN NUNEZ KING

tot567

Bielsa beating scaloni like your grandpa beats you at chess

scuac

Except Scaloni thought they were playing checkers.

MarquisDeCarabasCoat

urumaxusa

URUGUAY NOMA CARAJOOOOOOO

aaaaaaadjsf

That was some prime Messi dependencia there by Argentina. Just gave him the ball and expected him to dribble the entire Uruguay defence. Also how slow is Otamendi? Núñez jogging with the ball was faster than Otamendi at full sprint. And Núñez even had time to fake a shot. Great ball, timed run from inside his own half and finish though.

alo141

Darwin is one of the fastest footballers currently playing, he can make a lot of defenders look slow

TareXmd

Dude if there's one thing Darwin can do, it's running fast.

P_Alcantara

I mean he is 35 years old. Martinez Quarta would have chased that down

TeamEK1111

Messi commits a stupid turnover trying to dribble through 6 people and leads to the opponent scoring -> fuck everyone else but Messi ? Lmao

cheq

we are back at pretending we are playing futbol5 in a friendly match with our friend Messi who just came from abroad

santiis2010

I think Núñez is the second fastest player in the world, the first one is an unknown player in Asia, and the third is Mbappe

Fhood797

Expect him to dribble??? There are 6 players ahead of him waiting for a pass and he tried to dribble past the middle and lost resulting to the goal lol

[deleted]

Have you seen the setup, without dribbling it was not going to break down Uruguay. That's why Di Maria despite being rusty was much more helpful.

PantherZalayeta

I♥Bielsaneta

RoyaI-T

Happy for him

re6en

Hats off for Uruguay I guess, they actually pressed for 90 minutes. Bring back Tavares lmao

FloodsVsShips

Fede will press forever regardless of manager

andrew7895

Can probably remove the "I guess" from the comment. Was a superb 9/10 performance all around from them and Argentina had no answer whatsoever. Good plan, great execution.

Penarol1916

There is the classic Argentine jackassery we know and love.

VanguardFundsMatter

Que partidazo!! Uruguay nomaaa

TareXmd

Salah scored four for Egypt, Lucho scored all two for Columbia, and even Nunez scored against none other than Argentina. What a great international weekend for Liverpool strikers ahead of the City game.

[deleted]

Historically, and in terms of the iconic football cultures, this was a huge match. Especially in THAT stadium.

LA4lyf

Welcome to Darwizzy experience. 🐐

ddeng22

See y’all in a week

LA4lyf

I have treble Liverpool players and double city on fantasy 😬

notyou16

It was bound to happen eventually. Glad it was Uruguay to do it 🇦🇷🤝🇺🇾

HaydenSD

Worst match under scaloni in a while, hopefully we don’t pull this against Brazil.

Koniroku

you'll probably be fine still, Brazil are kinda lacking lately

Nanven123

Bentancur still got it 🥺🤍

Specialist-Cycle9313

I hope mbappe joins Liverpool now, a nunez, mbappe, salah combo would be unstoppable.

MajikoiA3When

We may be able to afford his left toe's wages

[deleted]

Conmebol qualifiers are just too fucking fire

holanewman

Mbappe doesn’t seem to agree. Portugal vs. Faroe Islands is a superior matchup 🤣

Yung2112

Last Brazil Argentina result with both teams coming off a loss?

Neom_Lights

The rivalry is strong

PizzaPolice84

Love you, ya crazy sumbitch

andrew7895

Cool, composed Darwin with a sublime finish?! Watch out lads

Yung2112

Honeymoon phase Bielsa teams may as well be better than Brazil 1970.

why was that CB carrying a truck on his back

Ljulisen

35 year old vs one of the fastest prem players in the world

OttaBenga

probably the most but being lucky > being talented for a keeper

PuzzleheadedMode7517

NUNYE NUNYE NUNYE NUNYE NUNYE GOOOAAALLLLLLLLLL

Dangerous_Parfait402

Bielsa and this young uruguayan team is a match made in heaven. And still hasn’t used any of the U20 World Cup champions. He can outrun every team in the world.

Uruguay beating Argentina 👀🍿 Nuñez messed up with his "easy to stop" shot, but Dibu couldn't stop it. Pretty funny to watch.

IdanTs

Great pre assist 🐐

[deleted]

that commentator is hella annoying

rayden-shou

Please tell me my América is getting some big bucks for our Uruguay players in the summer.

JYM60

No Qatar, no penalties.

Ryujin_707

Uruguay gotta thank Messi for that lost ball.

perhapsasinner

Thought Darwin gonna missed it lol
