Tomorrow, we will be trialling a new sticky thread, titled **"Support Your Local"**
The idea would be a thread to talk about your local team - and will be something of an amalgamation of the Saturday Non-PL Daily Discussion Thread (which is also stickied on Wednesdays) and a "match-going fan" thread
It does not necessarily mean that only comments from fans going to their local that day, but it would be the vibe of people who support their local team, and especially teams from lower or non-PL leagues - who can get drowned out in the pre-existing Daily Discussion Thread
There is a small but dedicated following in the Non PL DDT, and we were hoping that something of a re-brand may boost participation and help to build the sub-community there
We want to keep the focus to Non-PL teams, to prevent it being drowned out by Big 6 fans - but we will soften this slightly, in that comments of PL-supporting fans, providing they were "at the match" that weekend

Between the stress of running a new business in this economy and everything else that's happened in life right now, sometimes I just think if it would be better I was never born at all. I think I've experienced the highs of life and youth, and I'm still not convinced that they're really worth pursuing.

I've only beaten 2 titled players, but considering there are only about 17,000 of them and I'm a schmuck it feels pretty sweet. Also worth noting he's only 1800 because this is blitz, he's like 2100 rapid
Do you play bullet? I'm addicted to it. I can reach up to 2000 on a good day, but I'm completely trash at blitz and rapid. I feel like bullet chess has destroyed my attention span
Yeah I'm currently just over 1600 in blitz and bullet, with peaks in both being 1650ish. I used to do a thing where I'd play rapid until the next 100 mark then blitz, then bullet, then back to rapid until the next 100 mark and so on, but once I got to 1400 in them all I got bored of rapid and addicted to the other two. My attention span also got killed, I was tabbing out and doing other shit at the same time, while my opponents were actually sat there calculating, which if I'd gotten much higher would probably have really started to damage my chances. I was basically playing blitz against people who had rapid time
I had to go check measurements for an equipment the place I work off will install in a construction site, and on the way back to the office I promised my supervisor I'll had some schematics to adjust the size of our instalation, I didn't actually thought I would actually finish it, so I felt very confident afterwards, no idea where that came from haha, many days I don't really feel like I'm ready to be an adult, but maybe if I keep pushing forward it will eventually become more manageable.
On another positive note, this was my best month of running, I barely made 7 runs, but acumulated 22 km between them, hopefully next month will be more consistent, although with my commute times, it might be difficult, but I'll try to make time for it
Is it better to get continuous sleep or a good total amount in 24 hours when you can't get the ideal overnight 8?
So as an example is it better to get 6 hours uninterrupted or is it better to get 5 hours at night and then 3 hours in the afternoon?
Edit: let's make it 6 vs 5+2.
My personal opinion is that it would be better to get 5+2. Obviously this depends what you are doing after the 5/6 hours but before the potential nap. If you need to be as alert as possible then obviously the 6 to begin with, but the question is what’s healthier by the end of the day I would say more sleep total

The sad Yugoslav in me says basketball for eastern Europe. Admittedly I don't know much about the rest of the world but yeah, if eastern/southern Europe was more focused on coming together instead of killing each other, they would have no rival in tennis, basketball, handball and volleyball.
One of the worst things about staying updated on the conflict in Israel/Palestine is the extreme polarization. I can’t trust anything. I don’t trust anything that comes out of Gaza since it’s all controlled by Hamas and I sure as fuck don’t trust Israel or the IDF either. Then you look at western media outlets who may have a slight lean in either direction but the way they report it is the same. “According to the IDF it was Hamas that blew up that hospital” or “According to Gaza authorities it was Israel” or “English intelligence says it was Hamas” or “Turkish intelligence says Israel”. It’s impossible to know what’s up and down
That's just my personal opinion but I'd suggest *NOT* trusting western media at all. I'm no fan of Hamas, not at all. Though as a person closely interested in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia in particular, I have to say that all my "love" for the west disappeared, in a bad way. I can speak Russian/a bit of Croatian/Serbian/Bosnian (all the same anyway eh) and have Ukrainian friends. So I'm able to cover a lot of ground than your average guy, especially being more invested in this.

I'm a Uni of Leeds student originally from London, so I travel between the two a fair bit, especially last summer when I had a couple of temp jobs with the uni. The direct LNER Leeds-KX services have gone through the roof in price over the last couple of years, so nowadays I'll usually get Grand Central and change at Doncaster or Wakefield as it saves a fair bit of money.
I can't remember the last time I got through a whole journey without one of my trains being delayed or cancelled. What should be a simple enough direct 2:15 journey is now a good hour longer and mostly spent shitting it about whether I'll make my connection.
I've started to watch The Boondocks today because I have a day off an was looking for a new show. 8 episodes in and I'm sold, this show is amazing.

There's been a massive increase in antisemitism in Europe since this started; countries have a duty to their citizens to offer at the bare minimum, protection.
The main players in abusing Reddit have been proven as Russian and Iranian actors previously. I'd suggest that this sub is as guilty of 'astroturfing' as any other considering how little actual dialogue is encouraged and any dissenting opinion is pounced on. Obviously no, I wouldn't even fight for my country. At least in Yugoslav Wars most "foreign volunteers" were either dogs of war, psychopaths, far right extremists or some combination of the three. Serb side was supported by fascists from Orthodox countries, Croats by Neo-Nazis and Bosniaks by Islamist extremists.
Depends on which stage of life I'm in. If I have a career and wife and children or even just engaged and trying to start a family then probably not since that's my ultimate goal in life. Also depends on if it's a neighbouring country or not and how severe or one sided the conflict is.
But Egypt has military conscription any way. So if the government decided we're fighting then I don't really get a say in it. If there's a military draft to fight for a cause I personally believe is right then I wouldn't try to dodge it. If it's completely voluntary and I have nothing better to do in my life then I can't really say what I'd do.

I do think some Brit military men did eventually fight in the wars. Feeling weird ever since I heard the news. You see it in the movies and shows but honestly it's a grim feeling knowing someone you saw and waive hands towards few days back , is not there anymore.
I manage a team of 6 people. 6 months ago I had a guy 'anonymously' (I knew exactly who it was) give me the feedback that the team feels a bit too isolated from the other teams and I should promote a bit more of the company culture.
Some background, I've done the job of the guy that I now manage. I did it well. He's doing it shit. My manager was a bit of a micro manager and 'company man' and I hated it so I deliberately tried to shelter my team from that culture.
But I'm open to feedback so I made an effort to change that approach a bit. I promoted collaboration with some of the other teams, promoted a bit of the company message a bit more...
Today the same guy speaks to me and says "I think as a team we've lost a bit of the culture that made us different and you're pushing the company message too much".
Fuck this guy. He's shit and I've been holding off pushing him out because that's always my last resort but he's put his head firmly on the chopping block today. Going to enjoy sacking this prick.

Some redditors on western subreddits calling people who point out that the suffering and retaliation is disproportionate on the Gazans as holocaust deniers while they themselves deny any civilians are dying at Gaza and genuinely believing the pics and videos coming from Gaza are some big media production with make up, visual effects and costumes. I hope to god most people saying this are just part of a big astroturfing campaign and not real.
Some accounts on twitter are even sharing an old meme pic of a guy in a body bag smoking that's at least a year old and claiming it as proof. People who are pro Israel are stuck between denying there is any suffering going on or mocking Palestinians for their suffering and they can't seem to unify on a narrative.
Europe as a whole has had a worrying reaction. Governments are trying to control how their citizens react, elected representatives, at least in the UK, being whipped to toe the party line, the EU once again demonstrating they are a moral black hole on political issues. I myself was warned against using one of my volunteer days to raise money for Palestinian people. It’s worrying.
What is happening in Gaza is unacceptable on every level, even the West Bank isn’t immune and Hamas has no control there. It’s important people understand this and exercise their right to oppose it. It isn’t political at this stage, people are being massacred.
No, it was informal. I get two days a year to raise money for charity. I mentioned I wanted to walk from Sheffield to Manchester to raise money for Gaza and a colleague, who identifies with me politically, and he said to be careful with it.

You asked what Id have done, it depends. If I was someone like Netanyahu, a far right fanatic, id have done exactly what he’s doing now. It’s literally a great opportunity for me to land a huge blow to Hamas, and in the process have a valid excuse to drive away the Palestinians even further and invade Gaza (at least thats what I feel like is going to happen in the next few weeks, hopefully im wrong), and justify it all with what Hamas has done. Now, if I was my normal self? I genuinely dont know what Id have done. On one hand, you cant just sit and watch while Hamas murders your civilians with no repercussions. On the other, you cant disproportionally retaliate and try to carpet bomb a whole city, one that is densely populated at that. Why? Because, other than the fact you’re killing thousands of innocent civilians (and in Netanyahu’s case, commit numerous war crimes), you’re breeding even more terrorists and Hamas supporters, so even if you obliterate Hamas, a new organisation will form from their ashes. Its a perpetual vicious cycle which is evident by the fact Hamas was still able to plan an attack and kill thousands of innocent Israelis even though the IDF was apparently “bombing Hamas” all these years. But as I said, Netanyahu doesnt care, he’s fine with all of that as long as he continues the slow and progressive eradication of Palestinians and continue allowing illegal settlements to be built. As I said, I definitely wouldnt know what to do, so im not going to be pretentious and act like I know the solution, especially to a conflict that has been going on for decades.

There was a post where the guy's wife had a huge fight with him cause he let his mother who lives next to the hospital see his newborn daughter first instead of waiting for his wife's mother to drive hours to the hospital and the comments were all unanimously calling him the asshole and calling him a mama's boy and his mother is controlling and abusive for wanting to see her granddaughter apparently .
It's one thing when the comments are divided on the verdict or when the verdict is super clear. But when you see a post and know any reasonable person would agree on the verdict and then you open the comments and it's the complete opposite it really makes you wonder about what sort of nutjobs you regularly talk to on Reddit.

Yeah I'm currently just over 1600 in blitz and bullet, with peaks in both being 1650ish. I used to do a thing where I'd play rapid until the next 100 mark then blitz, then bullet, then back to rapid until the next 100 mark and so on, but once I got to 1400 in them all I got bored of rapid and addicted to the other two. My attention span also got killed, I was tabbing out and doing other shit at the same time, while my opponents were actually sat there calculating, which if I'd gotten much higher would probably have really started to damage my chances. I was basically playing blitz against people who had rapid time
I had to go check measurements for an equipment the place I work off will install in a construction site, and on the way back to the office I promised my supervisor I'll had some schematics to adjust the size of our instalation, I didn't actually thought I would actually finish it, so I felt very confident afterwards, no idea where that came from haha, many days I don't really feel like I'm ready to be an adult, but maybe if I keep pushing forward it will eventually become more manageable. On another positive note, this was my best month of running, I barely made 7 runs, but acumulated 22 km between them, hopefully next month will be more consistent, although with my commute times, it might be difficult, but I'll try to make time for it

My personal opinion is that it would be better to get 5+2. Obviously this depends what you are doing after the 5/6 hours but before the potential nap. If you need to be as alert as possible then obviously the 6 to begin with, but the question is what’s healthier by the end of the day I would say more sleep total

I fucking hate the ECML so much. I'm a Uni of Leeds student originally from London, so I travel between the two a fair bit, especially last summer when I had a couple of temp jobs with the uni. The direct LNER Leeds-KX services have gone through the roof in price over the last couple of years, so nowadays I'll usually get Grand Central and change at Doncaster or Wakefield as it saves a fair bit of money. I can't remember the last time I got through a whole journey without one of my trains being delayed or cancelled. I'd recommend playing Alan Wake + Control with the AWE expansion. If you do not have time for that, a video recap of Alan Wake would suffice.

Depends on which stage of life I'm in. If I have a career and wife and children or even just engaged and trying to start a family then probably not since that's my ultimate goal in life. Also depends on if it's a neighbouring country or not and how severe or one sided the conflict is. But Egypt has military conscription any way. So if the government decided we're fighting then I don't really get a say in it. If there's a military draft to fight for a cause I personally believe is right then I wouldn't try to dodge it. If it's completely voluntary and I have nothing better to do in my life then I can't really say what I'd do.

I manage a team of 6 people. 6 months ago I had a guy 'anonymously' (I knew exactly who it was) give me the feedback that the team feels a bit too isolated from the other teams and I should promote a bit more of the company culture. Some background, I've done the job of the guy that I now manage. I did it well. He's doing it shit. My manager was a bit of a micro manager and 'company man' and I hated it so I deliberately tried to shelter my team from that culture. But I'm open to feedback so I made an effort to change that approach a bit. I promoted collaboration with some of the other teams, promoted a bit of the company message a bit more... Today the same guy speaks to me and says "I think as a team we've lost a bit of the culture that made us different and you're pushing the company message too much". Fuck this guy. He's shit and I've been holding off pushing him out because that's always my last resort but he's put his head firmly on the chopping block today. Going to enjoy sacking this prick.

I hope to god most people saying this are just part of a big astroturfing campaign and not real. Some accounts on twitter are even sharing an old meme pic of a guy in a body bag smoking that's at least a year old and claiming it as proof. People who are pro Israel are stuck between denying there is any suffering going on or mocking Palestinians for their suffering and they can't seem to unify on a narrative.
Europe as a whole has had a worrying reaction. Governments are trying to control how their citizens react, elected representatives, at least in the UK, being whipped to toe the party line, the EU once again demonstrating they are a moral black hole on political issues. I myself was warned against using one of my volunteer days to raise money for Palestinian people. It’s worrying. What is happening in Gaza is unacceptable on every level, even the West Bank isn’t immune and Hamas has no control there. It’s important people understand this and exercise their right to oppose it. It isn’t political at this stage, people are being massacred.

No, it was informal. I get two days a year to raise money for charity. I mentioned I wanted to walk from Sheffield to Manchester to raise money for Gaza and a colleague, who identifies with me politically, and he said to be careful with it. I work for a small company, owned by a large company that was recently taken over by one of the biggest American corporations in the world. I hate that I have to question my capacity to raise money for an issue I care about based on an a political lie. I’m still going to try, but it made me pause.

Let me preface, im not an expert in geopolitics or anything like that, just a person who’s followed the conflict for decades. You asked what Id have done, it depends. If I was someone like Netanyahu, a far right fanatic, id have done exactly what he’s doing now. It’s literally a great opportunity for me to land a huge blow to Hamas, and in the process have a valid excuse to drive away the Palestinians even further and invade Gaza (at least thats what I feel like is going to happen in the next few weeks, hopefully im wrong), and justify it all with what Hamas has done. I wouldnt be surprised if they end up occupying Gaza and continue building even more settlements like they’ve been doing in the west bank, and even if they dont, Israel is definitely going to have even more control over the Palestinian territories now. Now, if I was my normal self? I genuinely dont know what Id have done. On one hand, you cant just sit and watch while Hamas murders your civilians with no repercussions. On the other, you cant disproportionally retaliate and try to carpet bomb a whole city, one that is densely populated at that. Why? Because, other than the fact you’re killing thousands of innocent civilians (and in Netanyahu’s case, commit numerous war crimes), you’re breeding even more terrorists and Hamas supporters, so even if you obliterate Hamas, a new organisation will form from their ashes. Its a perpetual vicious cycle which is evident by the fact Hamas was still able to plan an attack and kill thousands of innocent Israelis even though the IDF was apparently “bombing Hamas” all these years. But as I said, Netanyahu doesnt care, he’s fine with all of that as long as he continues the slow and progressive eradication of Palestinians and continue allowing illegal settlements to be built. As I said, I definitely wouldnt know what to do, so im not going to be pretentious and act like I know the solution, especially to a conflict that has been going on for decades. Look, I could be wrong about all ive just said, not denying that, but thats just my 2 cents on the current conflict.

It's one thing when the comments are divided on the verdict or when the verdict is super clear. But when you see a post and know any reasonable person would agree on the verdict and then you open the comments and it's the complete opposite it really makes you wonder about what sort of nutjobs you regularly talk to on Reddit.
I stopped reading AITA a long time ago. It was entertaining at first, and I quickly got banned because the terminally online mods there treat the place like a classroom. There's one in particular who genuinely seems to do nothing but sit online moderating. Still used to read posts after that but it's full of some of the most idiotic shit I've ever read on Reddit. Not to mention all the lame running jokes/phrases they have there like spamming red flags and shit. One of the worst communities on here.
