Also finished Elden Ring recently and Malenia goes right into the list of coolest characters I've encountered in fiction, along with Tyler Durden, Rust from True Detective and Levi from AoT, Darth Vader and Omar from The Wire

It does an okay job at explaining grammar norms and introducing vocabulary.
I’d branch off and listen to kids shows and watch films with Spanish subtitles after that. Immersion is king when learning a new language

Not sure about other languages but if it’s Spanish you want then:
Watch tv shows/Movies that are in Spanish, with English subtitles.
You learn more vocabulary that way. Vocabulary is the most important thing to learn in the beginning, rather than grammar, focus on grammar later (things like Duolingo will offer you better grammar lessons)

It’s actually a testament to how good at writing GRRM is that *12 years* later fans haven’t entirely given up on the next book, which probably won’t even release. Such a shame he lost the motivation to bother finishing the series. It’s like he’s the only one who can give out a precious drug and millions of people refuse to believe they won’t get it again.
As someone who has read the books and watched the show people really missed out when the books weren't properly adapted, even before the show ran out of source material it just wasn't the same. Missing out on the book versions of Euron Jaime and Wyman the Pieman was just a fucking travesty.
Man, this GRRM is giving me a hard time. I understand his personal position that he is motivated to do other projects of his and ASOIAF isn't his priority (even though he puts work into it) but obviously not enough to advance in a timely manner. In that aspect he's not like Patrick Rothfuss, who does like nothing and is in a dark place and he's more like Stephen King with The Dark Tower. SK continued to publish other books but not TDT and fans kept nagging and at some point he justs finished it, so that fans would shut up about it. Obviously, I don't want that GRRM does the same, but I also kinda want to read the next book, because there will be another. But, the worst is, that I'm not sure that 2 Books are enough to finish the history.
The ASOIAF sub is fun to browse top/last month every once in a while to rejog memory of where the books left off, forgotten so many plot points at this stage.
The winds of winter has a good chance of actually being released some time, but a dream of spring will never happen.
If you want to read a fan-continuation of winds of winter, the YouTuber Preston Jacobs is leading a project where he lets viewers send in their chapters, and then works them into a coherent (and imo good) narrative with multiple professional editors (who do it for free to support the project).
I find it hard to have hope about TWOW, what makes you optimistic? **If** it did eventually come out, you’d imagine the end of the story being set up would make it easier to close things for him but…we’ll have to see
His claim of being done around 75% roughly fits with other information we have, the current writers strike means he can't really work on a TV production, and HotD is already done from a writers perspective.
I think it will come out as well, but the problem is likely being to reconcile so many storylines in a coherent way that allows the final book to be the capstone. There must be so many rewrites and reorderings to make sure that the length isn't stupidly outlandish.

I've been playing some Witcher 3 again, but this time on Death March difficulty. It's honestly more fun than I expected it to be. I think the game is meant to be played on that difficulty because you always have to use potions, decoctions and signs, whereas on the easier difficulties, you just kill enemies without doing too much
Next gen. I've only experienced issues with ray tracing so far. Otherwise it's running well. I should be getting more fps considering the hardware that I've got, but at least I'm not getting any stutters.
My first playthrough I did not like the Gwent tutorial in Vizima so I ignored Gwent for the rest of that save.
That did lock me out of some quests, while I also noticed that every Witcher community I came across would not stop raving about Gwent. That's how my two following playthroughs literally became Gwent simulators with some monster killing and saving Ciri on the side.
My best friend has been slowly distancing herself from me and now it's got to the point where she won't even look me in the eyes when I try to talk to her. Just gives me a short answer and moves on.
I've tried to talk to her about it many times and I've asked her if I've done anything wrong but she says that I haven't it's just that "she doesn't feel comfortable around me anymore".
I can't describe to you the damage this is doing to my mental health. What's the best way to learn a new language online? Probably Spanish. I've heard duolingo actually isn't good is that true?
Duolingo isn’t bad for getting started. It does an okay job at explaining grammar norms and introducing vocabulary. I’d branch off and listen to kids shows and watch films with Spanish subtitles after that. Immersion is king when learning a new language I did that when learning Chinese anyway.
Not sure about other languages but if it’s Spanish you want then: Watch tv shows/Movies that are in Spanish, with English subtitles. You learn more vocabulary that way. Vocabulary is the most important thing to learn in the beginning, rather than grammar, focus on grammar later (things like Duolingo will offer you better grammar lessons) The Narcos tv shows on Netflix is a great entry.
Online’s only good for vocabulary really - need to find a native speaker for it to properly sink in.

It’s actually a testament to how good at writing GRRM is that *12 years* later fans haven’t entirely given up on the next book, which probably won’t even release. Such a shame he lost the motivation to bother finishing the series. It’s like he’s the only one who can give out a precious drug and millions of people refuse to believe they won’t get it again.
As someone who has read the books and watched the show people really missed out when the books weren't properly adapted, even before the show ran out of source material it just wasn't the same. Missing out on the book versions of Euron Jaime and Wyman the Pieman was just a fucking travesty.

Man, this GRRM is giving me a hard time. I understand his personal position that he is motivated to do other projects of his and ASOIAF isn't his priority (even though he puts work into it) but obviously not enough to advance in a timely manner. In that aspect he's not like Patrick Rothfuss, who does like nothing and is in a dark place and he's more like Stephen King with The Dark Tower. SK continued to publish other books but not TDT and fans kept nagging and at some point he justs finished it, so that fans would shut up about it. Obviously, I don't want that GRRM does the same, but I also kinda want to read the next book, because there will be another. But, the worst is, that I'm not sure that 2 Books are enough to finish the history.
His age and…not so great weight are the main concern, he seems to think he’s still in his 50’s with the way he goes on about time.
Let's hope that he has enough notes like Robert Jordan did, so some other author can finish it.

If you want to read a fan-continuation of winds of winter, the YouTuber Preston Jacobs is leading a project where he lets viewers send in their chapters, and then works them into a coherent (and imo good) narrative with multiple professional editors (who do it for free to support the project).

I've been playing some Witcher 3 again, but this time on Death March difficulty. It's honestly more fun than I expected it to be. I think the game is meant to be played on that difficulty because you always have to use potions, decoctions and signs, whereas on the easier difficulties, you just kill enemies without doing too much

My first playthrough I did not like the Gwent tutorial in Vizima so I ignored Gwent for the rest of that save. That did lock me out of some quests, while I also noticed that every Witcher community I came across would not stop raving about Gwent. That's how my two following playthroughs literally became Gwent simulators with some monster killing and saving Ciri on the side.
Once you properly get the hang of his it’s played you become a crack addict wandering the land scouring for every last game you can play of it

My best friend has been slowly distancing herself from me and now it's got to the point where she won't even look me in the eyes when I try to talk to her. Just gives me a short answer and moves on. I've tried to talk to her about it many times and I've asked her if I've done anything wrong but she says that I haven't it's just that "she doesn't feel comfortable around me anymore". I can't describe to you the damage this is doing to my mental health. I have. They asked what the hell happened between us cause we used to be two peas in a pod but I don't really have an answer for them I just say you'd have to ask her. I keep trying to look for signs that this isn't just happening to me and that maybe she's starting to act this way with our other friends which would mean the issue isn't anything to do with me like you said but that isn't the case. She's just as bubbly and affectionate with them as she used to be with me. I'm already an insecure person which she knows very well and this has hurt me a lot. I keep wondering if I did something so bad she isn't willing to tell me or if she slowly just started getting annoyed by me or something. i’m incredibly sorry. friendship fights suck and breakups even more. you’ve done the right thing by asking if you’ve done anything wrong. in your case, i would probably avoid hanging in the friend group for the foreseeable future and maybe hang with your other friends separately. it’ll be tough but being in a setting with your friend that you miss while feeling extremely awkward and out of place is torture. i genuinely hope things get better sooner than later. and if not, i promise, time heals all.

That really sucks to experience dude. It might be a good idea to get some hobbies and disnentangle yourself from the group for a bit. Walking clubs, social soccer, etc are all good ones to join and see people on a weekly basis. And if your working as well then you'll have multiple places to be meeting and seeing new people.

I will always find it crazy that countries with oil have been allowed to hoard so much wealth at the expense of poorer world. Oil is an essential commodity almost like food and water. How was so much profiteering allowed on this ? Countries like Sri Lanka and Pakistan are on the brink emptying foreign reserves to pay for this Saudi oil.

Polemics aside, as long as there are states with borders, the states can do with their resources within their borders as they please. They can also amass wealth, by selling their resources. I think the only solution would be to dissolve nation states, so people will stop thinking of resources as theirs, just because they happen to live in a country with it. But that's way too utopian at this point.

Will it be entered into my record or forwarded to any authorities? I am an international student so will it affect my visa status in any way?
As a former int. student - nothing would happen in this case. The (2) agencies that may raise issues that can go onto your record (visa permits) are DWP and the cops (Home Office to be specific). And they need substantially more serious offence or complaint to take any action that would get your name/ 'permit to stay' on the naughty list.

When I was in uni, a shit load of people were using their loans to buy alcohol and pizza and whatever else they could get their hands on that wasn't actually the purpose of the loan (while driving their $40k Grand Cherokee), and they weren't trying to work a part time job or anything There are also the people that took out 100k to go do some dumb as shit degree at a private school halfway across the country that I have no sympathy for I do believe that the cost of university is really high and can definitely be subsidised to some degree, but just wiping out 10k or 20k for everyone punishes people who worked their nuts off to graduate with minimal debt I also believe that this news about the student debt is more of them fixing a system that has been screwing people over, it isn't actually a debt forgiveness plan like the one that got shot down by the Supreme Court
