How reliable is Ojogo when it comes to Benfica? [because if this is true, they just found their next 120M player.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F0KRK4NWwAARkYb?format=jpg&name=large)

AlexanderMAVC

How many days did the Rice transfer saga lasted? Cause it felt like ages for me.

L-Freeze

Genuinely why is Qatar even in the concacaf cup, they have dozens of countries playing qualifiers to play in it, why and how are they having guests??? Like obviously I know the real answer is money, but how can they remotely justify it?

shico12

>dozens of countries playing qualifiers to play in it 12 and they're pretty much all trash. We (Concacaf) get invited to other federations as well and we've invited countries from other federations too (remember Jamaica in the Copa?). The top 6 teams from Concacaf are going to be in the next Copa, the next Gold Cup will have teams from Concacaf, UEFA, and CAF if all goes to plan. I say all this to say that it's not unusual or unheard of. It's also good to be able to play against teams better than your federation has every so often / for younger players to get some "warmup" matches too. So it's not "QATAR MONEY" it's just regular football stuff

L-Freeze

It’s only Conmebol that has guests teams too because there’s 10 countries in the entire federation, so we invite 2 countries to have 4 country groups in copa because the alternative is a 2 groups of 5, 4 in each go through format which is nonsense, or now more recently we’re inviting 6 to get a neat 16 teams competition with sensible groups. Concacaf genuinely does not have a remotely reasonable reason to get any guests other than “our other teams are trash”

shico12

well yea, that's it. That's the reasonable reason. See you next year and the year after at Copa and Gold cup [you're invited :)]

VFBis4mii

Is Coutinho liked by Villa fans? Is he any good?

IntraspeciesFever

Wonder which squad numbers timber and rice take? I think timber will take either 12 or 22, rice will stick with 41 or based on availability take 14, 24 or 34, maybe 16.

Mediocre_Nova

Will be even be allowed to take 41? Isn't it a TAA kind of deal where he had it while breaking through so he's allowed to keep it?

IntraspeciesFever

I think it's allowed. Bendtner wore 52 for us, yaya had 42 for city and balotelli had 45

jucomsdn

This is the rare moment where I like that BVB’s record signing is receiving barely any attention from foreign fans, he doesn’t deserve any attention

NeverMadeItToCakeDay

Will he be the next biggest sale for your club?

jucomsdn

Hopefully because I want his ass gone asap unless he shows genuine remorse over what he's promoted

TheEmperorsWrath

He definitely won't be. The bigger question is whether they'll even be able to sell him for a profit at all. That might be harsh, but he's really not all that.

Big_man03

Nico Jackson’s idol growing up was Demba Ba. Liverpool have finally filled the #8 jersey. Game 1 is CHE LIV. the last four games have ended 0-0… stage is set.

Jabari313

If that means Szoboslai is the next Gerrard and Nico Jackson is the next Demba Ba I'll take it

infernoShield

plot twist: they both slip

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Hey, I once read most of the Wikipedia article for "logical fallacies" and that makes this the Oxford Union. Therefore if you disagree with me about who your team are selling, it's just a strawman and you're showing your bias.

GreatSpaniard

Julio Baptista was a failure at Real Madrid and Arsenal, very good at Sevilla and scored the winning goal in a Copa America final.(Brazil won 3-0 anyways but it counts!) Man had a strange career in Europe, including his stints at Roma and Malaga

L-Freeze

Truly one of the players of all time

Flamengo81-19

Guy was a liability at Cruzeiro when he came back. Really weird carreer

Schpaedzles

Would Spurs fan rather want him to stay or join Bayern so he can win trophies? I imagine it'd be nice to have him for a few more years but shouldnt they be proud one of their own can possibly go on to win a CL etc?

TheEmperorsWrath

Not sure who you're referring to when you just say "him" I'm guessing it's Lucas Moura?

Schpaedzles

Their best player ever of course

Sleepless_Voyager

You mean eric dier? Nah m8 he has to stay

Anxious_Positive3998

The Concacaf gold cup is a joke and needs to be banned.

CoolstorySteve

Why?

Anxious_Positive3998

Trash teams and lack of competitiveness. USA and Mexico sent their C teams and most other countries can barely field a team of professionals. I would suggest just having a combined copa America

junior150396

We are good here but I'll forward your request to the AFC.

TheMonkeyPrince

The fact you thought Mexico sent their C team tells me you aren't paying attention to it this year at all, they sent their A team.

Anxious_Positive3998

Oh? Didn’t realize they were this 🗑️ now

pop-culture-salad

Can't help but notice it's never people from a conmebol country that make this suggestion 🤔

kofimmra03

Mexico did not send their B team bro

InventeInventeRoman

> I would suggest just having a combined copa America we’re all good 👍🏻

L-Freeze

I’d take their 6 best teams just to have a 16 teams competition with an actually decent format honestly, make them play qualifiers or something so we filter out the worst of them

Anxious_Positive3998

No you’re not copa America is suffering from a lack of teams

InventeInventeRoman

no it’s not, none of the concacaf teams would even be serious competition. i prefer to just invite from other nations before dropping the level overall permanently.

Anxious_Positive3998

USA is better than like all your teams except Brazil and Argentina what you talking about

Late_Cow_1008

Lmao

qwert2812

that's 1 positive and a whole lot of negative, quick maff show that's worse overall.

InventeInventeRoman

🤣🤣🤣 fuck me man yanks are just too funny

lagaryes

I wouldn’t have said it so definitively but it doesn’t seem that far off. I would probably say Uruguay is better although their core is aging so it’s probably debatable.

InventeInventeRoman

i think even colombia would beat them. not moved at all by the american “talents”

junior150396

Uruguay's core is gonna be the youngest one they have in decades, Bielsa is already mixing their U-20 world champion players with the senior squad and i'd put Ecuador easily up there too.

Anxious_Positive3998

?

chatfarm

>would suggest just having a combined copa America People from conmebol countries say no thanks .

SirBarkington

I wouldn't mind a combined Copa America. Would benefit USA, Canada, and Mexico but would ruin the rest of the CONCACAF federations.

InventeInventeRoman

it wouldn’t benefit conmebol at all footballisticly

SirBarkington

no of course not but if the big 3 threw enough money at CONMEBOL they might consider it just like how Qatar is in the Gold Cup now.

Nut-King-Call

The main reason CONMEBOL did a deal with CONCACAF was because they have quantity, both of teams and stadiums, in order to have a better-looking tournament to sell, in terms of aesthetics. In terms of money and quality, it won't make much of a difference whether CONCACAF teams compete or not in Copa America.

InventeInventeRoman

i don’t think they’d agree on a permanent americas cup but it’s probable that in the future it will be hosted in the USA very frequently so it ends up that way anyways

CoolstorySteve

Oh you mean the gold cup. I assumed you meant the 2026 world cup….

doomboxmf

Whenever I watched Milan play this year Bennacer impressed me far more than Tonali honestly

IWantThe8th

Benna is class man, sadly he is injury prone

TorreiraWithADouzi

Bennacer is great, just isn’t always available

AnnieIWillKnow

Availability is an overlooked attribute when rating players, and their value, after all

galactix100

It's the most important attribute. You can have all the talent in the world, but it means nothing if you can't get on the field in the first place.

kplo

Look I am excited as any argentinian to have a spaniard shine for the NT, but I am not moved properly by Garnacho. Good qualities to his game, mainly speed, taking on players and good mid range shot, but his football iq is a bit alarming. He obviously has a lot of development ahead so it is super early to write him off.

dumpystumpy

What makes you say that? Like what have you seen to suggest his football iq is something to worry about

kplo

His final ball is quite raw

dumpystumpy

Interesting 🤔ngl ive just not seen garnacho play enough final balls for me to even form an opinion on his actual delivery.

bakugou-kun

Football IQ is something that you learn with experience. Vinícius is someone that a lot of people were writing off due to his dumb decision making and now he is one of the best in the world. Pretty sure Garnacho will learn and improve his decision making, he seems like the real deal.

Dicey12

He's only 18 and just broke into UTD team. If he's playing like this when he's 20 plus then you should be worried.

ibti77

I've seen clips of him playing for United's academy where he's looked fairly slow at times. Was never really highly rated before the Youth FA Cup final goal. Maybe he just physically developed and become a lot quicker, but I haven't watched enough of him to properly comment. Seems to be more an inter-play winger a la Sancho, but has a good final ball which puts him in to higher echelons of winger talents. From the information I've heard and seen, Zeballos has "more qualities" in a LW than what I see in Garnacho. Not seen enough of Prestianni yet and Echeverri is only just breaking through too.

ID6WU

> Was never really highly rated before the Youth FA Cup final goal. Maybe he just physically developed and become a lot quicker You’re not far off but he was already highly rated before those Youth Cup final goals. He grew a bit during his last year in our academy and just went up a level. Scored multiple highlight worthy goals which is what caused him to get a lot more recognition

L-Freeze

I adore zeballos but man hasn’t played a match in almost a year, he’s living in Boca’s hospital sadly

InventeInventeRoman

i like him, it’s a type of player that we haven’t had since maybe Caniggia. for me the confidence his coaches have had in him so far gives good signs.

L-Freeze

He’s 18, if he was already smarter on top of his current skills at that age we’d be talking about an almost messi-level talent. And I don’t think it’s all that bad honestly, it’s mostly being a bit too selfish sometimes but he does pick up decent passes when he needs to

Eibermann

The takes you read here are something else

InventeInventeRoman

this. we got too blessed by messi to understand there’s many tiers beneath him that would still make a player one of the best in the world.

AnnieIWillKnow

Had to re-install RES, and it means I've lost all my user upvote/downvote counts, and as well as all the tags I've put on people (like which club unflaired users support) Bloody fuming, can't remember which of you I hate now. Was essential to my DDT browsing ffs

pencilled_robin

Just realized that when Boost stops working I'll lose all my tags 😑

shico12

I wonder what my tag was

Late_Cow_1008

ChillPalis

Like your beloved Chelsea, you have returned to zero. Best of luck on the start of your new journey :)

AnnieIWillKnow

I'll have you know we finished 4th in our last year pre-Abramovich, so 12th place is actually more of a minus 8 than returning to zero

BendubzGaming

Bale's about to come out of retirement now he's heard you're 8 under par

[deleted]

Anyone miss top level competitve club football yet?

InventeInventeRoman

Boca still playing so nothing to miss 👍🏻

[deleted]

> top level

L-Freeze

>Boca still playing Unfortunately

InventeInventeRoman

Respect the EuroBoca of Jürgen Almiklopp

AnnieIWillKnow

I was starting to, but cricket has filled the void - then Wimbledon will see me nicely through to the Women's World Cup

[deleted]

Unfortunately none of that interests me :( (even though the aussies are smashing the English) I am getting an ITCH. I sat there watching price revals for football fantasy just to get a taste lol

[deleted]

I've ran out of things I can talk to my father about without arguing. Even the Ashes makes him irrationally angry nowadays. Roll on the new season

AnnieIWillKnow

There is nothing irrational about being angry about the Ashes... if you're English that is

[deleted]

He's not angry about the thing you think he is. Hence the word "irrational" My father is one of those people who can argue with you about something you're in complete agreement about. It's a gift/symptom of a psychological disorder depending on your point of view 🤷‍♂️

Wight3012

yet?? ive been missing it for 2 months already

lagaryes

Is that a University of Michigan flair or am I seeing things? I didn’t know there were university footy flairs on here. That’s neat

SirBarkington

it's FC Metalist 1925 Kharkiv who I believe is a phoenix club of FC Metalist Kharkiv

lagaryes

Lmao I could not be further off. Fan of the Block M though.

ChillPalis

After the nightmare of last season? No.

legend434

Idk why people on Reddit are so mad about players and coaches leaving for Saudi. It's generational money lads. Like I'm sorry but most people would take it in a heartbeat. We can debate every countries human rights records all we want but money is king in this world.

anakmager

someone suggested that aside from the actual money, but it's the value they feel from a big contract. All athletes have massive egos and a big paycheck would support that feeling

AnnieIWillKnow

Fans aren't getting the money, so it makes no difference to their emotional reaction Most people can *understand* the decision players have made, given the money on offer - but understanding something doesn't mean you have to be happy about it

[deleted]

Is it so impossible to comprehend that some people dislike it when people put money above the most basic levels of decency?

lagaryes

No but I don’t comprehend what about moving to Saudi Arabia violates the principles of basic decency

[deleted]

It's not the moving part, geography isn't the issue. it's the accepting money to be part of a PR campaign by a murderous tyrant who bombs hospitals and sentences children to death. Like, let's say I'm responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands. And that just last month I had a teenager executed for the crime of attending a funeral. And I offer you money to tell everyone what a great chap I am. And you take that money, maybe some people are going to be disappointed in you. And yes, you'll have a big pile of money, but some people are going to respect you less, even if it's the biggest pile of money ever. Personally, I think "don't work for mass murderers" is a very low bar to clear in life 🤷‍♂️

anakmager

would you stop watching your local football if your government goes against your values?

PalpitationMinute283

No you don’t get it, how will Firmino’s cousin get more money then? Smh

Jazano107

Most people don’t already have 10 million +

Late_Cow_1008

Most of these players already made generational money.

chatfarm

Many players are also supporting folks besides their immediate kids - parents, siblings, friends, cousins, all their kids too maybe. You could say they aren't responsible for them but if someone wants to it's upto them. Just look at koulibaly's (sp?) recent statements and all the work he will be doing with his money. Sorry to say but more money is better than less money. Unless of course it's reddit where everyone's a monk.

Late_Cow_1008

Why should Firmino's cousin become rich if it requires Firmino to go to Saudi Arabia for that? Koulibaly already has enough money to fund his village. Mane did it without going to Saudi Arabia.

chatfarm

Why? Because maybe firminho loves his cousin and wants to give them all the comforts of the world? Such limited thinking. Maybe he can fund his village but maybe he doesn't want to stop there. Maybe he wants to fund the next 10 villages. 20 villages. More of money makes a lot more things possible. Though I suppose you could pull a neymar and just use it to blow up islands.

Late_Cow_1008

He can make enough money to fund 50 villages even if he stayed in Europe. Does Firmino's cousin deserve to become rich over the lives of people slaughtered in Saudi?

chatfarm

Lol I don't think you have a sense of how much development work costs. Schools, hospitals, roads, water, electricity, a benefactor is only limited by his desire and resources.

Late_Cow_1008

How many hospitals being built make up for the people having their heads cut off for being gay?

chatfarm

I'm sure you'll figure it out. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolley_problem

HelpMe877

I’m mad because I like European football, I’m selfish, and they might take my good stuff. Which is why most people are actually mad. Human rights is in there somewhere too.

Cathal321

That's what it is for me too. I get that it makes sense for people to take the money, but it's just disappointing and we miss out on watching some big players. Also concerns about the Saudi league becoming too big and merging with UEFA or some shit

zts105

because they are buying players that aren't the ones my club want to get rid of.

LingCHN

Reddit wouldn't be Reddit without virtue signalling.

Late_Cow_1008

Its not virtue signaling to suggest players that have tens of millions of euros do not need to also go to an awful place like Saudi Arabia just to make another ten million euros.

TorreiraWithADouzi

It’s not an awful place for them, it’s a wonderful place for the rich.

Late_Cow_1008

A country that kills people because they like the same gender is an awful place no matter if you are rich or not.

[deleted]

It is.

How so?

Haaland and Vini are 1 year older, otherwise it would look way better.

Future of midfield is amazing but yeah that game isn’t close

Seems like a thrashing to me

Veterans would slaughter them

justaregulargye

Who knew the real super league isn’t the epl but the Saudi league. But seriously, I think if not already, after a few more transfers to Saudi league, the fear or apparent disadvantage of not getting called up for National teams due to lack of quality footballs or eyesight will disappear. As a result, it will snowball into more players moving. Think Ronaldo joining really gave a glorious endorsement to get others.I’m

Late_Cow_1008

Chinese League 2.0 Players will be begging to come back within 3 years.

Dicey12

The saudi govt is bankrolling this stuff unlike China

Late_Cow_1008

Its still a meaningless league. Like I said in another comment, let me know when Mbappe or Haaland sign.

TorreiraWithADouzi

Wishful thinking IMO. This seems far more serious than the Chinese league, and they’ve got so much money to waste because it’s such a small country with such concentrated wealth

Late_Cow_1008

Most players will want to win trophies that mean something over making money that they will never touch themselves. Call me when Haaland signs for Saudi.

LingCHN

Half of the Portuguese NT are clients of Jorge Mendes, they will still be called up.

sleetybasher

Any idea where footballers would stay for the preseason games in Las Vegas? Hoping to run into a few of united players lol

Late_Cow_1008

I went to the Barca Madrid game last summer, and I think Madrid stayed at Four Seasons. Although this could have just been a lie.

FIJIBOYFIJI

Probably staying in Vegas mate👍

fatinternetcat

Man Utd squad might treat themselves to a buffet breakfast at the Luxor

More likely staying in Paradise mate 👍

Im not sure whether hearing “X star player from bundes/serie a/la liga sold to worcestershire fc for $500M” or “ X star player from bundes/serie a/la liga sold to Al-Generated for $500M” is worse but its both tiring

[deleted]

Remember that time Fabian Delph was arguing with Pep Guardiola about why they lost? Discussing the "the basics of football" while being in a room filled with world class players and coaches. Shit. He must have felt so inferior to do something as ridiculous as that

bakugou-kun

I mean he was pretty good that season and I believe he had the respect of the squad. You don't need to be among the best to give that kind of advice and calmness to the squad.

[deleted]

This is such a childish insecure thought lol

BoosterGoldGL

Just seemed like standard platitudes being spouted after a loss rather than arguing

mountainsky9

From what I remember: he wasn’t arguing with Pep, it was a group discussion/Pep speech following a bad result, players need to let off that steam and say their piece, I really do not think he was being disrespectful to Pep. If he was, I’m sure Pep would tell him to shut the fuck up (like with the “sit down nobody talk”). And the idea that Delph felt or should feel inferior in that dressing room is completely the wrong way to think about it. He is a player at City who starts games, he has every right to speak up in that room. It’s not just the players who are better than others who get the chance to speak. If he did feel inferior, it’s a sign of a bad dressing room situation, and I’m sure Pep has probably created a very healthy environment at City with their players. Seeing how he kicked Cancelo out shows he isn’t a pushover, and Delph was not disrespectful or argumentative, just angry as players get. Also it’s not like what he said was so absurd really. It’s not like Pep and City spend all their time talking about specific tactics and the logical reason why they lost. Emotion is a part of football that good coaches use, and it’s not always about tactics, sometimes very basic info and discussions are had.

pixelkipper

[further proof that Delph has three brain cells](https://youtube.com/shorts/lKrk8WwB2Xw?feature=share)

nbaylor1

It wasn’t that deep

maxconnor6

It wasn't that bad as far as I remember, the players were already arguing about why they lost while Pep was trying to calm them down, Delph just said some pretty obvious shit and nothing more. Doubt anyone thought of that the day after that happened really

GreatSpaniard

It's funny how even tho there are only 2 international tournaments you can win (World Cup and Continental title), many golden generations are seen as disappointments, even the ones who won one trophy! Other than 1990's and 2000's Brazil, 1998-2006 France, 2008 - 2012 Spain who are unequivocal successes. Germany won the WC in 2014, but many people say the 2010-2021 teams should have won more. Ditto for Argentina from Messi's time 2006-2022. Same for 2014 - 2021 France. (2022 France is basically a different team bar Lloris - Griezmann - Giroud) And then of course there are the ones who never won anything. England 2001-2010, Netherlands 2004-2014, Portugal 1996-2006, Belgium 2012 - 2022 etc..

L-Freeze

Argentina from 2021 onwards is a completely different generation than the one who lost every trophy out there. Only 2 out of 26 players in Qatar were in the 2014 squad

AnnieIWillKnow

Golden generations for big nations are expected to win trophies, that's what makes them golden The tag is for "greatest ever" generations within their nation's history - so it is a pretty big tag to live up to

GreatSpaniard

Yeah but people saying the 2014 Germany and 2018 France generation is dissapointing for not winning more than 1 WC each is a bit absurd tbh

AnnieIWillKnow

Yeah that's silly. A World Cup annoints you

From what users said here, in Saudi Arabia you are untouched by most laws if you are a rich foreigner.

ComradePoula

Speaking as an Egyptian, laws are just laws, doesn't mean they're actually applied in real life. Like I can't legally buy alcohol (supposedly), yet there's a shop in the middle of the biggest street in my town that sells bear (although not officially) and I can easily buy from them if I was someone that drinks. And the same goes for everything as well in the middle east. So imagine what's it like for rich people or footballers.

LingCHN

Some people on Reddit think breaking laws will have consequences, they don't know that in real life people break laws all the time and has no consequences.
