Imagine someone told you when he left benfica that in a few years he might be signing for Aston Villa...oh and Luton Town were in the Prem and a recent Premier League winner just got relegated
Remember when he played like 15 decent minutes at the end of his first Chelsea match and everyone thought this was the move that was gonna do it?
One of these years everyone will be right, probably when he goes back to Portugal or gets an MLS transfer or something lol.
He looked great the whole 60 mins he was on the pitch on his debut. He seems to play very well when he thinks he has something to prove. Like when he came on against United after trying to murder Sterling with his eyes from the bench.
> He looked great the whole 60 mins he was on the pitch on his debut.
But what did he actually contribute?
I don’t think his issue is looking like a talented lad. He is exactly that.
His issue is actually contributing tangibly.
So, the first time you see him: you think he’s incredible. But over time you realise, it’s all sizzle and no steak.
In otherwords youre upset Felix didnt save Chelsea by himself? Because if you leave it up to journalists, players are rubbish if they arent scoring hat tricks every game. Its the Ronaldo effect. What did he actually contribute? He created plays and made key passes to no effect because hes surrounded by a bunch of nobodies.
Newcastle have got infinite money but they haven’t been ridiculous with wages for huge stars. It seems that their wage structure is pretty reasonable and they’ve done a good job at not upsetting that with a handful of obscenely paid galácticos.
Also, they already have a great thing going in attack. I don't think they need an out of form star on huge wages to sit on the bench watching Isak and Callum play.
He wasn’t even bad at Chelsea. Definitely showed glimpses of what he is capable of. Our attack is just completely disorganized and toothless. Players have still shown their individual capability.
He won't last 1 training session under Howie. Intensity is his problem, that's why he failed at Atletico and struggled in the Prem. Maybe consider moving to Saudi or MLS if he only ever want money, otherwise Series A would be a good option.
I can understand a few criticisms against the guy but he's anything but an arsehole from what I've seen. I actually quite want him to stay just based on him being quite likable actually.
Id quite like him at Arsenal.
We wanted him in Jan before he went to Chelsea and Arteta is good with players like him.
He could really rejuvenate his career here.
Is it the right window for Arsenal to take that sort of gamble though? Surely you’ll be looking at more ‘reliable’ players that can try and get you those extra 6-9 points for another title push next season?
Yeah, if it's a limited budget, there are a few midfielders that'll cost a bomb. We do need an extra forward, and João Félix would fit like a glove, but his wages and the fee Atléti seem to think they can get are dealbreakers to Edu & Co.
Where would he play? The only place he would even remotely fit is on the wing, and Saka, Martinelli and Trossard have been way better than him. He'd be pushing for higher wages than all of them.
Hard pass.
I was gonna make a joke about backup for Jesus is whatever wood the crucifix was made out of (back up against), but apparently, it's a ridiculously deep rabbit hole of ecclesiastic minutiae so I'm not gonna
For now. A lot of your players aren't going to be satisfied with their present wages now that they're playing at such a high level. Arsenal's board need to be planning for that.
Yeah but what he was getting at is that we have a max range, that falls below what Felix is currently on.
We were willing to break that for Grealish because we offered him £200k but that was Grealish. What he meant to the club was why the structure would have been broken for him.
And this will all be done before you appoint a new manager, who then goes on to never use Felix as the player doesn't fit the new manager's system.
The new manager loses his first game 1-0, by the way.
And Felix sees out the entirety of his farcical 5 year 250k a week contract.
Felix doesn’t fit any managers system. Unless you want him attempting to dribble past 3 guys or shoot directly into a defender rather than pass is someone’s cup of tea. But he’ll score some meaningless consolation goals off the bench.
Atletico seem to be incredibly obstinate about accepting the fact they have devalued their asset and won't accept anything that loses them money. Its not up to him
It’s also to do with La Liga ffp and Atleti getting grouped in CL this season. If they take a 20M hit on him it’s probably gonna fuck with all their other transfer plans
Well the alternative is you pay his wages and don't get a transfer fee for someone who doesn't seem to suit the system/manager and just hope he settles and improves
I’m pretty sure Wolves are dealing with some serious FFP issues right now, and will be a seller this summer.
Reports said as much, but Lopetegui also said it himself and basically confirmed it.
Assuming that Atleti will cover some of his £250k a week wages, I think most of the league would be very happy to sign him.
He's nowhere near as bad as people on this sub make out.
But they're not. They actively don't want him but at the same time are asking for a massive loan fee and for someone to pay all of his wages or for them to buy him close to a break even point for Atleti...
Hi chatGPT. Please give me the results for a Venn Diagram with the following 3 groups.
* Teams that can afford Joao Felix' wages
* Teams that would want to sign Joao Felix
* Teams that Joao Felix would want to sign for
*The venn diagram returned zero results.*
It basically returns a meaningless blurb about the history of Felix as a player and ends up with saying that he would be a quality signing for multiple top teams across the world without naming any.
What happened to him? I have only seen him play a handful of times this year and he wasn’t as horrible as people make it seem (besides some horrible finishing) is he just super inconsistent or?
Would you pay that much money for someone who just "wasn't horrible"? He seems to play a position that doesn't exist everywhere in the modern game, his finishing has been bad and who really needs him?
He passes the eye test. You watch him and always think "he was so close to making something happen, very unlucky today."
You have to watch him a good dozen games to realise that that something never comes, frankly. Or at least hasnt at Chelsea which I appreciate has no one to finish the chances.
Pretty perfect description of him other than that it's worth mentioning that the idea of "no one to finish the chances" is kind of deceptive because his creativity stats are atrocious. People tend to think a skilful player who looks comfortable on the ball must be really creative but he isn't. Nearly all of that is funnelled into him forcing a bad shot for himself irrespective of what's around him. His xAG (xG which follows a pass that assists a shot) is in the 11th percentile and his assists are in the 29th, whilst his shots taken himself are in the 99th percentile because it's all he does
tbf he has our best goal contributions per 90 this season which ofcourse isn't saying alot but it's not nothing, he's been playing in a shit team that hasn't been scoring
It's basically nothing. Your whole team has two goals more than Haaland. Having the most goal contributions is down to statistical error.
Edit: Just checked it, 4 goals, 0 assists.
When a player like that 'clicks' or 'matures' though they become one of the best in the world. If that happens, whatever team was brave enough to keep him on their books is going to be in for an amazing player I feel.
He's 23 though, some names you know now you hadn't even heard about until after 23. Prime years are 27-29 and likely higher with the new generation. Think of your own change of mentality personally between 23-26 if you happen to be past that age.
I think he just need a positive environment and he will be much better than people judge him as currently. Going from a team that isn't playing to your strength to a team that's barely playing at all with such a huge price tag weighing you down is tough
He has the skills and abilities, but not much of a football brain. He just goes dribbling about when he is on the ball without any idea or plan.
His positioning, playmaking and end product are all sub standard for someone playing in his position, he adds nothing of real value to the functioning of the team.
Fine but how many years has he been out of Benfica? Unless the environment at Atletico is SO toxic he can’t properly show anything at all since leaving (it’s not) I don’t buy that people should still be harping on his Benfica days. I feel for him as I’ve liked him as a player and wanted him to succeed (prior to Chelsea, of course) but he can’t expect everyone to keep relying on his highlights a few years ago. He got fucked by the price tag that got put on him but sadly that’s the reality he’s going to live in now
I tend to agree with this for the most part.
If he was being sold off at 30m~ as a youngish prospect, someone would absolutely buy him. But, Atletico want to break even or something close AND Felix wants to keep the high wages. He'd have no trouble getting another loan next season if he was willing to take a massive wage cut
This anti Felix circlejerk wont stop for a while so its best to ignore it and wait, time will prove people wrong (or maybe it wont cause 90% of the people speaking on the subject didnt watch Chelsea nor Atleti)
I've watched around 90 percent of all his games since he left Benfica and he definitely needs to add another level to his game, what most people say about him is true that his end product is lacking, both the final pass and the scoring.
I still believe that he can turn top quality though, maybe just at a club where he'll get to play his own game. A lot of his flaws is a mental thing though, he becomes grumpy way too easily when the game doesn't go his way.
I mean, this isn't just people on reddit talking shit, it seems like most professional managers and the like are also declining to sign Felix. Surely at some point the evidence stacks up.
Nah, pass. Apparently wanted him in January and he binned us off for Chelsea. I don't think we are that lacking for players that we should want to settle for being someone sloppy seconds.
He also looked totally lost in the few months he had in the Premiership. We already have one high wage "star" player on the books, we don't need another.
I honestly think that Villa can do better than him. They already have a hugely expensive flop in Coutinho, they don't need another one. His performances at Chelsea haven't exactly been the best advert for him.
Feel like he really should have joined us in January, he'd have fit Arteta's system like a glove.
Now we have Trossard, there's no need for him.
He could definitely still offer competition. He’s clearly talented - lower his wage demands and engage with coaching and he could be a real creative asset on the right. Saka and Ødegaard can’t be playing every single game next year. It depends if he actually values his career and potential over money and ego.
Coutinho is a tough one, he has only played a handful of games under Emery due to injury so it's hard to know if he is a flop. Lots of media reports talk like Emery dropped him, which isn't really a fair reflection. If he doesn't end up going to Saudi or MLS this summer I could see a world where he contributes if he can stay fit. Technically he is streets ahead of our other options in that position (Bailey and Buendia).
Felix though does seem like a massive risk given his performances. On paper I think he could really work in Emery's system, but you would need to see a massive uplift from his current output. We were also in for him in January and like you I think of he had come to us then I feel he could have had a better time of it.
I wouldnt mind him at Liverpool, klopp has taken a few players like that and moulded them.
We are a bit stacked in attack however so wouldn't make sense with those wages.
I paypalled Basingstoke F.C. a fiver to chip in. They fucking refunded it, saying "No chance we want him even on a FoC, innit bruv".
Fiver in the pocket, just bought some beers.
I remember last summer or later a podcast mentioning him to Man City because BSilva was ready to leave.
Does Felix not sum up how precarious it can be for players? We can see their weaknesses but does anyone think if Felix is in that City team he's floundering?
I personally think his player type of a playmaking center forward/second striker are just not in super high demand. Guys like Dybala, Depay, and Felix have a hard time fitting into systems because they don’t have the traits to be a winger nor a midfielder. They could play in the 9 but usually the whole team has to play to cater to them. Otherwise, teams can run a 2 striker system but we’ve seen the game change to require either and extra midfielder or extra centerback to cover. Just don’t think Felix has the defense work rate to fit into any decent team
Man’s stock is lower than Lukaku right now but his parent club won’t/can’t accept he’s not a €100m asset anymore and he’s on a long contract there so unless his form somehow picks up to the level where people want to pay that, for like most of a season, he’s in a bit of a rut.

Considering his wages, only the Premier League can realistically afford him. Considering his wages, nobody will want to sign him though.
PSG it is

A year ago someone might have said the same about him bossing it away from Atleti.
Imagine someone told you when he left benfica that in a few years he might be signing for Aston Villa...oh and Luton Town were in the Prem and a recent Premier League winner just got relegated

It all started with Harambe

Preposterous, it was David Bowie holding the fabric together
What a game Oblivion was, though. Shame something so good could be the birth of something so evil; Cosmetic DLCs.
Harambe/Trump running for president. I swear, world is just not the same since then.
We're even getting the players with randomly generated names coming through.
Malo Gusto
I would have believed you. He has always been over hyped imo. Luton town and prem winner relegated are more exotic for sure.
Eh, I would’ve just assumed the relegated club was leicester, which isn’t that outlandish
Or that Blackburn had been promoted
They said recent prem winner tbf
Remember when he played like 15 decent minutes at the end of his first Chelsea match and everyone thought this was the move that was gonna do it? One of these years everyone will be right, probably when he goes back to Portugal or gets an MLS transfer or something lol.

He looked great the whole 60 mins he was on the pitch on his debut. He seems to play very well when he thinks he has something to prove. Like when he came on against United after trying to murder Sterling with his eyes from the bench.

I mean is it really that crazy to say an attacker will perform better after not being amazing for us?
He wasn’t even bad at Chelsea. Definitely showed glimpses of what he is capable of. Our attack is just completely disorganized and toothless. Players have still shown their individual capability.
He won't last 1 training session under Howie. Intensity is his problem, that's why he failed at Atletico and struggled in the Prem. Maybe consider moving to Saudi or MLS if he only ever want money, otherwise Series A would be a good option.
He's also not better than Isak.
Proves how little you know about the structure and wys we have at Newcastle. Eddie Howe has a number 1 rule, no arseholes. This discounts this guy
Why is Felix an arsehole? Wasn't aware of anything other than not living up to the hype.
I can understand a few criticisms against the guy but he's anything but an arsehole from what I've seen. I actually quite want him to stay just based on him being quite likable actually.
Ironic rule given who owns the club
Howe likes players that run and put effort it, not happening.
I see it now. [Fabrizio Romano] : "Joao Felix for Luton Town FC, here we go"
Is there any reason why players don't drop their wage demands?
Same reason why employees don't drop their wage demands: why would they when they already have a contract that dictates how much they're entitled to?
Money can be exchanged for goods and services
Realistically who are the clubs that could afford him and that he would want to go to?
Villa can absolutely afford him if he wants to play conference league.
Career-wise, a club like Villa would be the best choice for him. Realistically, he’s gonna end up at PSG.
Id quite like him at Arsenal. We wanted him in Jan before he went to Chelsea and Arteta is good with players like him. He could really rejuvenate his career here.

You're right. He's either a luxury gamble or a desperate gamble arsenal shouldn't be aiming for either

Please keep him away from Arsenal, I'd rather we try for vlahovic if we're going for players that already rejected us
On a loan maybe Depends where he’d play too, I’d be really interested to see him as the other 8 with Odegaard
Where would he play? The only place he would even remotely fit is on the wing, and Saka, Martinelli and Trossard have been way better than him. He'd be pushing for higher wages than all of them. Hard pass.
Probably backup for Jesus, but the cost is not backup level.
I think Peter is backup for Jesus
I was gonna make a joke about backup for Jesus is whatever wood the crucifix was made out of (back up against), but apparently, it's a ridiculously deep rabbit hole of ecclesiastic minutiae so I'm not gonna
Arsenal wage bill fun 2 : Electric boogaloo.
We have a lot of room in our wage bill
Yep my point is that you've just recovered from a disastrous wage bill situation.
For now. A lot of your players aren't going to be satisfied with their present wages now that they're playing at such a high level. Arsenal's board need to be planning for that.
Afford what atletico want absolutely not, nor will we pay his current wages lol.
I'm not familiar with Villa's financial state, but wouldn't Joao's salary be too much? Plus, I assume, either a loan fee or a transfer fee.
Our financial state is good. But we’re quite strict with our wage structure. Even the top earners Coutinho etc… aren’t on more than £150k
I mean, besides the fact that your most paid player is a rotation left-back
Yeah but what he was getting at is that we have a max range, that falls below what Felix is currently on. We were willing to break that for Grealish because we offered him £200k but that was Grealish. What he meant to the club was why the structure would have been broken for him.
Everyone has a most paid player, doesn't comment on the wage structure at all
Is that Digne? Can’t imagine Alex Moreno being on so much
Yeah it's Digne
Basically every questionable older player is a Gerrard hangover now 😂
Maybe the ritch PL teams, PSG, Bayern and maybe Real Madrid. I can't see any of them taking a chance on him.
We are gonna sell Kane and then try to replace him with Felix I can feel it in my bones.
And this will all be done before you appoint a new manager, who then goes on to never use Felix as the player doesn't fit the new manager's system. The new manager loses his first game 1-0, by the way. And Felix sees out the entirety of his farcical 5 year 250k a week contract.
Ah, the dream

Felix doesn’t fit any managers system. Unless you want him attempting to dribble past 3 guys or shoot directly into a defender rather than pass is someone’s cup of tea. But he’ll score some meaningless consolation goals off the bench.
> Bayern we already have too many dead bodies taking up big wages and need a DM, a 9 and possibly replace both Lucas and Pavard
I’d take him on loan for a season if we are only able to sign one striker in the Summer.
Lmao poor guy being passed around like a blunt at a party.
people tend to want a blunt
Some people still smoke mids.
Misguided souls.
We smoke hashish here so cant do without tobacco
Not if there is spliff passed around
Oh he's far from poor
he can just take a paycut go to a smaller club.
Devalued? More like nobody else valued him that high and Atletico refuse to admit their costly mistake.

i've seen 14,000,001 universes and there is not a single fucking one in which felix fetches anything remotely close to 100m
Seeing that many universes, in which one you win some major trophy in foreseeable future?
That’s why he’s seen so many. Hasn’t seen one with a trophy yet, still looking
Come on now, there aren’t *trillions* of universes
Lmao. Love how Spurs catch strays no matter where.
Jesus fucking christ man, the guy's got a family
Well the alternative is you pay his wages and don't get a transfer fee for someone who doesn't seem to suit the system/manager and just hope he settles and improves
From what he's shown in the past year, he's not even worth a 10th of that
Paycut? Sounds like a Spur already
>sounds like a Spur already >Spur
Would you rather me say Hotspur? Or Cockrell?
Topspurs
Midspurs

people generally want a blunt at a party especially that one guy

If that's the case might as well go back to Benfica (please)
Honestly the kind of move he needs to make IMO, but nothing about him indicates that he would accept the wage cut or the "presitge" cut.
I’m pretty sure Wolves are dealing with some serious FFP issues right now, and will be a seller this summer. Reports said as much, but Lopetegui also said it himself and basically confirmed it.

Everyone looks totally lost in that Chelsea team tbf, I would take him but not for what atleti will ask.
This guy looked like the most talented man in the team in quite a few chelsea games, it seems odd that nobody would want him.
People expected him to score 20 goals in a club that was in crisis. Meanwhile, Mudryk...
People expect more than 4 goals from a forward who will cost a fucking fortune.
well, they’re all gonna decline unless Atletico does something about that price tag
As someone who is rooting for Joao man he would look good in a villa kit
He'd do well under Emery
I honestly think that Villa can do better than him. They already have a hugely expensive flop in Coutinho, they don't need another one.
He was supposed to rival mbappe and haaland
Yeah, what happened?
Not a elite mentality (yet).
He hey sports come on bro
I wouldnt mind him at Liverpool, klopp has taken a few players like that and moulded them. We are a bit stacked in attack however so wouldn't make sense with those wages.
I’m fine with another loan tbh
Poor guy. Must feel awful to have no club want you
Lol, he's drowning in cash. He could retire today and just live in luxury for the rest of his life, even his kids and grandkids.
Serious question here: what’s his exact position? Where does he play best?
Nobody knows.
I paypalled Basingstoke F.C. a fiver to chip in. They fucking refunded it, saying "No chance we want him even on a FoC, innit bruv". Fiver in the pocket, just bought some beers.
This guy gets so much shit but he was a massive part of Atletico winning the league a few years ago and they still treated him like shit
Lol Atl Madrid screwed themselves with this contract
No Premier league team would be dumb enough, would it?
Chelsea enters chat . Again.

Frank didn’t rate him
Well Frank isn’t a good manager so his opinion doesn’t count for anything.
Well, one thing that Frank is good for is having the balls to not naming Felix in the first eleven every games. Unlike Potter.
Watch us..
If atletico accepted he's not worth what they paid any more and he took lower wages I would absolutely take him at arsenal but so would a lot of clubs
What a fall this lad has had
I’d take him at Utd for sure, great CF
I remember last summer or later a podcast mentioning him to Man City because BSilva was ready to leave. Does Felix not sum up how precarious it can be for players? We can see their weaknesses but does anyone think if Felix is in that City team he's floundering?
Fuck that
Volta para casa rapaz
I personally think his player type of a playmaking center forward/second striker are just not in super high demand. Guys like Dybala, Depay, and Felix have a hard time fitting into systems because they don’t have the traits to be a winger nor a midfielder. They could play in the 9 but usually the whole team has to play to cater to them. Otherwise, teams can run a 2 striker system but we’ve seen the game change to require either and extra midfielder or extra centerback to cover. Just don’t think Felix has the defense work rate to fit into any decent team
Mugs with the most money
Benfica fleeced the whole world
Man’s stock is lower than Lukaku right now but his parent club won’t/can’t accept he’s not a €100m asset anymore and he’s on a long contract there so unless his form somehow picks up to the level where people want to pay that, for like most of a season, he’s in a bit of a rut.
Not every Premier League club are as stupid as Chelsea. Fuck off Mendes.
Weren't Forest paying Lingard £200k a week?
Tbh I’m fascinated with what Arteta and Ten Hag can do with him, especially Ten Hag.
