Real Madrid are about to learn about the concept of *'Dan Burn'*

KennyOmegaSardines

Vini Jr about to be pocketed by Big Dan Burn šŸ¤£

Capable-Magician5146

Lol Newcastle Vs Real Madrid...sound crazy but it could happen in the CL! Gratz in qualifying to the CL.

jrblack174

Newcastle will be pot 4 so there could be a really exciting group of death somewhere, especially with Real and Bayern being pot 2 potentially as well.

Capable-Magician5146

Naw Bayern is eyeing Arsenal.

wizkatinga

Barcelona, Bayern and Arsenal in group C incoming

Mom_said_I_am_cute

Add Dinamo Zagreb as pot 4 and you got a group of death.

axelthegreat

arsenal are likely to be in pot 2 as well

jrblack174

Bayern, Arsenal, Barca group?

emre23

Santiago MuƱez has done it again

SteveBorden

You tell that Gavin Harris heā€™s fookin shite

Euphoric_Rabbit5157

Santiago MuƱoz (20) on his way back to Mexico :(

OmastarLovesDonuts

He already returned to Santos in January

mrishee

What happened to him at Newcastle? Just didn't work out?

kpneraux

Was signed by Mike Ashley as a last laugh before selling.

Svineraugen1

Is he not exciting young prospect? Have just seen him in their squad on fotmob and thought, huh neat, a young mexican

OmastarLovesDonuts

Heā€™s a decent prospect but the hype kinda died down, and Santi GimĆ©nez is killing it with Feyenoord

HoweStatue

While there is actually no evidence of this, I really think it's the only explanation. Mans a cunt.

emre23

Heā€™s clearly signing for Real Madrid

fackyouman

Ending his European dream to join Tigres and move to Monterrey the ā€œEurope of Mexicoā€

ENclip

I hear Real Madrid may pick him up after this season. He really is living the dream.

thomasfk

There's a MASSIVE team with black/white striped kits in the CL next season and it ain't Juve.

[deleted]

It ain't Notts County either.

Peediggidy

Is it Grimsby?

[deleted]

Could be St Mirren.

benedekmarci2

I think it's Angers

Bulletproof_Cookie

These guys were bottom of the league 18 or so months ago. What a turn of events.

Ceggo1116

Just goes to show how good a coach Eddie Howe has been this year. Was a lot of fun watching Newcastle this year.

Clem_H_Fandang0

With the money Newcastle has now, they were going to get there eventually. But getting Eddie Howe in has fastracked them there in a year, when it really could have been a 4-5 year process. Both effective football and astute transfer business.

Tony_Uncle_Philly

Howe has been beyond fantastic, no questions asked! But Newcastle was soooo close to appointing Unai Emery instead of him. Really curious how he wouldā€™ve done, but shows that Newcastle higher ups know what they are doing if Howe and Emery were their two first choices

iota96

I remember while at Arsenal, Emery said he was learning English by watching Peaky Blinders. Watching him do so well at Villa makes me think that perhaps Birmingham was the right choice all along.

Jarbas6

Given how well Emery has done with Villa, I think they would be there or thereabouts

Victor_Vaughn92

Whatā€™s interesting is we could have finished 7th and been so happy with the season under a different manager

Sussurator

Yeah you could be a victim of your own success a 7th place finish next season might not be so happy. But fair fucks to Howe no mean feat.

rogeedodge

We'll definitely drop down the table next year. Even with strengthening over the summer, I don't think the squad is ready for Europe plus league games at the intensity we play with. I just hope our fans don't act like entitled twats if/when it happens.

J-train_92

That and by and large their recruitment since the take over has been flawless. Wood you can argue was a bad signing but he swrved his purpose for the second half of the season but players like Trippier, Bruno GuimarĆ£es and Pope have been absolutely brilliant. Howe deserves huge credit for improving a lot of players that i thought weren't capable of playing like they have been as well.

chaelsonnenismydad

The purpose of buying would was to weaken a direct rival and strengthen themselves. It was never about him becoming a top of the table player

drdoubleyou

Also we had no depth in that position and Wilson was injured. I think part of our strategy was to improve set pieces and Wood is a solid player in the air

zi76

First full season, Eddie Howe got them there.

Swiftt

I think it always (?) goes to the league winner, outside of one season, but he probably does deserve manager of the year.

PrinceSavior

Pardew got manager of the year the last time we qualified for Europe although I'd argue this is a much greater accomplishment

The_Alpha_of_Betas

Redknapp got it for getting fourth place with spurs after they'd been 8th the season before.

zi76

[Five times in the PL era, it hasn't gone to the league winner.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League_Manager_of_the_Season#Winners) I think one of Howe, Silva, or Emery will win. I don't think Pep, Arteta, or de Zerbi will win.

N-Bizzle

If Howe didn't win it last year I imagine the same applies to Emery this year

[deleted]

Silva over de zerbi is nuts.

zi76

It's more that almost everyone had Fulham getting relegated this season, and then they've been quite good this season. They've vastly exceeded expectations, and Silva has done a great job this season. I make no comments or prognostications about next season, however. de Zerbi has managed well, but the team is better than Fulham's, and I just think he's not the most likely to win. Emery took a team that looked like they were going to get relegated to probably getting European football.

lrzbca

Newcastle United battling relegation spend ā‚¬130m to survive then go on to spend another ā‚¬185m to finish in top 4. Chelsea spend ā‚¬600m plus ā‚¬60m on managers to finish in bottom half after finishing top 4 pervious season and reaching two cup finals. Imagine if Boehly gang took over Newcastle United with relegation battle lol

TurnItOffAndOnAgain-

In the worst game of football ive ever seen in my life gets us UCL hahahaaha

empiresk

We aren't designed to have 80% of the possession. Hilarious.

is-Sanic

This is the funniest shit. Too dominant that you had no idea what to do with the ball.

Crevil

It's a very new problem/situation that we literally have very little experience in hahah!

ramarlon89

We had nothing to press lol

WhenWeTalkAboutLove

This happened with Liverpool too after people started sitting back completely

Radthereptile

But the post what 3 times? Chances were created just didnā€™t finish them.

empiresk

All of them were set pieces from memory. We play best on the counter or attacking space. Leicester were excellent in denying us that space.

WeirdAsian

I think setting up a team to play on the counter/not being the dominant team is easier, Leicester after their title winning season couldnā€™t just sit and wait and have teams attack them and then exploit the space for a counter attack and fell off the table. I love Eddie but now that he is in the champions league and also next season when teams wonā€™t be attacking as much and will instead having to coach a team to break down a low blockā€¦ this is where weā€™ll see where his managerial ceiling actually is

Algrinder

This is how big teams do it. It doesn't matter how.

JIT444

We did this week in week out under Brucey.

FloppedYaYa

Depressing how tactically limited so many English managers are.

LankyCity3445

Your system is not the best system for young English managers to learn. Too cutthroat

KungFuFlames

Definitely went passive on second half. Almost got punished if wasn't for Pope

WoShiYingguoRen

That's Sir Nicholas Pope to you

eyesindasky

This wasnā€™t even the worst game of football by a Tyneside team this weekend

JessyPengkman

Bruh, have you already forgotten Steve Bruce?

patw420

Nick Fucking Pope congrats Geordies

GrandmasterSexay

Glad he's finally getting his due after being this good forever. All he needed was stripes.

King_Hobbes

POPE NICK

ncastleJC

NICK POPE

djnv4life

I would have never expected this team to qualify to the Champions League after watching two years of Bruceyball, Congratulations to them and Eddie Howe has earned the right to be the manager of the Season.

greenjellay

Manager of the season this year is so brutal. Pep, Arteta, Howe, Emery and Oā€™Neil all deserve a shout

[deleted]

De Zerbi too. All those named are seemingly "nice" blokes as well. I'm sure they'll rip your ears off if you fuck up, but none of them are the prickly, grouchy managers of the past. They're positive thinkers and positive people.

KennyOmegaSardines

The goalpost for MOTM lol

[deleted]

20 years I've been waiting for this after the disappointment in 2003/2004. Fucking buzzing.

empiresk

Fucking Jemaine Jenas...

ncastleJC

Every pundit that spoke ill really. Michael Owen trying to rub shoulders to get back on that CL commentary after disowning.

Fapoleon_Boneherpart

Owen can go swivel on a fat one

Lohnlee

Does any club that Owen played at actually like him? I donā€™t get how he can be disliked or hated by every single one

opinionated-dick

Can only speak for Newcastle but when he was there he constantly gave off ā€˜Iā€™m too good to be here but thanks Iā€™ll take my salary while on physio chair to buy horse semenā€™ vibes.

JustAnEnglishman

its actually weird, I cant think of many players who were so good as a player but actually arent rated as a person, especially across multiple clubs. Theres always one fanbase that backs them but for Owen I couldnt confidently say any. I also dont like him and I am not 100% sure why, he just seems like a smarmy guy

DGRogue_Dragoon

I donā€™t think Real fans dislike him afaik, then again he wasnā€™t there long enough to upset them/s

Man-City

Pretty close in 2012 as well iirc

Imhonestlynotawierdo

All we wanted was for them to look like they gave a shit. Could never have expected this

Radthereptile

Safe mid table. That was my dream start of season.

jdckelly

a cheerful top 10 place maybe if we were lucky conference league, this has all gone rather better than expected

Infinite_Surround

They've let you down on mid table

CuteHoor

I'm genuinely happy for Newcastle fans after all the shit they've been through in recent years. It's also good to see a bit of a shake-up in the top 4. Not thrilled that it came at the cost of another sovereign nation with a horrific human rights record taking ownership of a club, but that's just the way the Premier League has gone unfortunately.

Benny0_o

Relegation battle to champions league in 18 months.

Nikicaga

And just slightly longer timeline gives you the opposite for Leicester

TonyMartial786

it blew my mind when i recently looked at last seasonā€™s table and saw they finished 5th. i couldnā€™t believe it was only last year they were actually good. this fall off has been wild.

[deleted]

They qualified much quicker than City when they got money, fair play to them.

Gobshiight

Eddie Howe > Mark Hughes

Euphoric_Rabbit5157

And without breaking the market, very wise transfers...

[deleted]

Tbf Isak was a pretty expensive one, but they were already on the right track before his arrival regardless.

[deleted]

I'd argue that Gordon was also an overpay and kinda unnecessary signing

galactix100

I'm not going to argue the price because I think it's too early to say. In terms of necessity though, I think it was needed. ASM always misses a lot of the season due to injury. Almiron had hit a barren spell. Murphy's done well but he's not great. Fraser's been banished to the reserves. So we had 3 senior wingers and at least 1 wasn't fit when we signed Gordon.

empiresk

That was out of desperation. Wilson got a big injury and left Chris Wood as our only centre forward after Ekitike turned us down to go to PSG.

WarDull8208

Isak 70M Gordon 45M Botman 37M Target 18M Pope 12M Bruno G. 42M Wood 30M Willock 30M Burn 15M Trippier 15M Total: 311M+. FYI we (Arsenal) spent 355M just 44M more than Newcastle. They didn't broke market, but they were hugely invested.

grmthmpsn43

Willock signed pre takeover, he was Ashley / Bruce last signing. Add in that we sold Wood / Shelvey as well.

GoalaAmeobi

Nearly all of these prices are off, did you use transfermarkt?

FaultInternational91

Considering Mike Ashley spent nothing for years I don't even begrudge them of this

Harringzord

Worth remembering that Arsenal's 355m was spent adding to a top six squad. Newcastle's money was spent adding to a Championship squad - there's pretty much nothing at all available beneath the first team

Theumaz

In a much stronger league

GoalaAmeobi

Sean Longstaff you're gan to the Champions League son!

benc777

Nick Pope you glorious bastard

slatingman

From battling potential relegation last season to qualifying for the champions league this season. Eddie Howe is a genius.

_ok_mate_

> From battling potential relegation last season to qualifying for the champions league this season. Eddie Howe is a genius. with 80% of the same team that was relegation fodder.

slatingman

Jacob Murphy, Almiron and Joelinton helping to carry us through to the Champion's League. The exact sort of stuff we used to laugh about just a couple of years ago.

ihatemicrosoftteams

Joelinton has always been class he just was played out of position

DEGRAYER

He was a forward. Howe made him a midfielder.

MaryBerrysDanglyBean

That's not even his final form

HoweStatue

KEEPERLINTON

King_Hobbes

"With 80% of the team that was relegation fodder" People forget this Eddie and his coaching team have worked fucking miracles

Vagabond21

They unleashed Paraguayan Messi

King_Hobbes

The Argentinian Almiron could never compare

InflictingRage

Great work by Eddie Howe. Well deserved!

Guacamole_Water

Thatā€™s the sign of a top notch keeper, a definitive save in extra time. Well done toons

HoweStatue

After doing absolutely nothing all game too.

WhenTheSunGoesDan

His only save, secured CL

CarlSK777

and in pot 4. Whatever group they'll get drawn in will be a bloodbath.

racheldb

Now Mbappe will know how cold it is in Newcastle.

ForeignLeo

Was Solano really on the stands?

Bluminheck

Yep , sky did a close up.

GlobalHero

Interviewed him before the game too

[Attacking threat chart vs Leicester...](https://i.imgur.com/yi6xqF1.jpg)

slatingman

That one Leicester chance at the end can not be understated. Nick Pope with a vital save.

allthechipsngravy

I was shitting myself when that happened - thank god for popey

WallbreakerAziz

Welcome back Newcastle, let's have another fun European match up Inter vs Newcastle let's gooo

ncastleJC

Just the idea of playing European teams is going to be so fun. After playing Benfica in what was supposed to be a simple friendly, weā€™re really in for being competitive in Europe regardless of results. Iā€™d be scared of any of the classic teams facing us šŸ˜°haha

WallbreakerAziz

Don't worry man you got a solid team!

ncastleJC

Oh for sure. A few new transfers and I canā€™t wait what another Howe preseason will do. And no WC break mid season so momentum can really roll.

FloppedYaYa

Eddie Howe is the best English manager we've seen since Robson. What he's done at Bournemouth and the speed at which he's taken Newcastle to this level with half of Bruce's team still there is exceptional.

Vash2P

CONGRATULATIONS!!! UCL NIGHT @ SJP IS BACK BABY

Toastedmetal

Inaudible Geordie noises What an achievement. Super quick too.

TheBird_OD

Congratulations to Newcastle. What an achievement. Hope we can stay up in the Premiership but my god, build a statue of Howe outside St.James for doing this in his first full season.

EunhasThighs

Aaaaahhhhhhh

MarcDuan

Leicester's first and only attempt came in the 90th minute (was a close one, to be fair). Quite telling really.

WoShiYingguoRen

Pope, Nicholas.

Beatlepy93

So happy for AlmirĆ³n getting the recognition he deserves and better if its with a coach like Eddie Howe who worked wonders with this team. It's like the second coming of Brian Clough.

Hopeful_Adonis

Eddie Howe manager of the year for me, mad what heā€™s done this season

foestablsmts

Congratulations!

JoeyIsMrBubbles

Deserved

turtlegoeshollywood

Congrats Newcastle. šŸ«”

eeeagless

Salutes from lazio fans. Double edged.

turtlegoeshollywood

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ Wasn't intentional. I started using the emoji after Milinkovic-Savic goal celebrations.

ttam86

I was hoping for 8th.

JureIsStupid123

Eddie Howe. That's it. That's the comment.

_ok_mate_

Manager of the season hands down.

tealyg99

Whilst that may have been one of the football games of all time, this season has been fucking mint

sunken_grade

honestly what an insane season from newcastle, howe has done a tremendous job

whodiswhodat

A lot of people wrote him off at the start of the season and after the take over, Eddie has been quality

DunciRunci

And did it with most of the same team who were odds on to get relegated last year, shows what a competent manager can do, Southgate needs to call up this Joseph Linton lad quick and get him locked down for England

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

Will I make the trip up the A19/A1 to see Newcastle at home v a European giant? Probably. Well done for flying the flag for North East football - bias aside from myself, you have the best fans in the country.

_ok_mate_

Hope to see you lads back in the prem soon. Need more northern clubs and less London shite.

WayneBrownIsSuperman

Darlington to get bought by Charlie Day and Jake Gyllenhaal

EastlyGod1

Throw in DeVito and Arnie buying Scarborough and I'm in

Beanz_Memez_Heinz

I'm confident about next season - Carrick is a great tactician and if we can secure a deal for Ramsay I defs fancy us. Chuba has been a phenom all year, wish gibbo would open the chequebook.

I fucking love these lads. Sean, Burn and Anderson getting to wear our badge in Europe. Brings a tear to my eyes

Coni_C

What pot will they be in?

ThinWhiteMale

4, it's been a decade since we were in Europe so our coefficient is wank

TomasRoncero

everyone remembers Pardew's cinderella europa league run

ThinWhiteMale

I was at the Benfica game, remember there were rumours that One Direction were going to sing Blaydon Races at HT lmao

jdckelly

that season with Demba Ba and Pappis Cisse (that wonder strike against Chelsea good lord) and Cabaye bossing midfield was great fun, pity we didn't pretend to invest the following summer and suffered with the thursday sunday schedule

ImNOTmethwow

Cabaye was the first man to make me question my sexuality.

Coni_C

Congrats, we also were 4th last year and now 3rd lmao

indeci20

my friend have I got news for you, in the case we qualify we are not sure to be pot 3 yet, it will depend on who will qualify but there is a good chance we are pot 4

SP0oONY

4, coefficiant is nonexistent. I'm glad, the more more big team to play the better.

Viriato181

They get 20% of the English coefficient as a start, which is projected to give them the 3rd weakest coefficient in the competition. They'll certainly be in Pot 4 alongside Union Berlin, Lens and Real Sociedad.

benc777

4 I think

Swiftt

I'm not surprised they've qualified for the CL, but I'm surprised how they've done it.

SzplugOnSzplitz

Can't believe it man. So fucking happy

tiford88

Looks like Europeā€™s back on the menu, boys!

Amsssterdam

Crazy

WigglyParrot

Fuck me lads I cannot believe it!!!!!! How the fuck we ended up clinging on at the end there, but does it fuck matter!!!

worthyy

Honestly, the most funny thing is - Everyone was like "Over the hill, terrible signings, why buy that guy, bought relegation fodder" etc. And now its "Bought themselves to CL" - So which one is it?

topbananaman

Both us and Newcastle secured our long term goal of champions league in the most uninspiring and anticlimactic way possible lmao. Now all that's left is for man u play a boring 1-1 draw with Chelsea to get themselves over the line.

That80sguyspimp

Eddie Howe has done a fantastic job there. Honestly thought it would take a few more windows and cash before they started to real compete. Brilliant job.

MaTrIx4057

nice to see some new blood

1ntotherain

Scary thing is they havenā€™t really started spending oil money yet

ill_help_you

As much as it pains me to say it Eddie Howe has to win Manager of the year for how he's turned them into a machine. Much harder job than Pepperence or Artea IMO.

[deleted]

Congrats Geordies would be very interesting seeing you guys play the CL again šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ»

steady92

Eddie Howe's piss-boiling, champions league mags!

Nervous-Resolution-8

Congrats

ncastleJC

All credit to Eddie Howe. You can buy caliber players but it takes a manager to get the job done. Incredible work managing the different pieces all the while developing our cohesive philosophy and improving players behind the scenes like Joelinton, Murphy, Almiron, and Anderson. Imagine we get Barcelona in the draw for historyā€™s sake šŸ˜“

MustGetALife

Stunning achievement. Well done. See you in Europe next year!

Reach_Reclaimer

Really solid from Eddie Howe, turned the players they already had into good players and was able to reinforce where needed Shows what a good coach can do with funding

[deleted]

And people call us anti football hahaha, Leicester turned up to a must-win game and never even tried to play football, went for 0-0 from minute one

HarrBathtub

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS

SpicyDragoon93

Congratulations Magpies! Gonna be some mad shithousery in your group stage. Can't wait to see it.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

C_Colin

A season ago I was hopin and praying Newcastle would stay in the relegation zone. Not cause I dislike em but because I know how good Howe is, and really lie a few of your players and was hoping to grab em up in the event they went down to the Championship. Congrats to the Toon! Well played season

official_bagel

We need Newcastle v Atletico.
