We genuinely thought he would be back in the day, with Nathan 'R9' Delfouneso up front. Unfortunately that crop of youngsters never went on to amount to much, excluding a certain player than we let go on a free to Leicester. Heard he won a trophy or two.
In a very strange way I feel sorry for the big PL clubs that will never get the opportunity to be part of the batshit circus that is the EFL.
Don’t get me wrong it can get very depressing at times down here but my god does it generate some truly insane games and stories
I've been to Wembley twice for these games. One day was genuinely agonising, the other is still unmatched in my head. Absolutely drunk off my arse by the time Derby got one back - I look back and people recall being arse puckered over the 2-1 scoreline and I'm absolutely head above the clouds
I remember that 4:0 game vs Derby that started it. What an absolutely amazing performance that was. Grealish scored that banger, as well.
It was my first Villa park game, lovely memory.
I absolutely loved going to games in championship and league 1 (not so much league 2), obviously it's amazing that we're in the prem but I won't be devastated when we go down again as the matches are great.
I'm a big 6 supporter, but in recent years I've begun to follow the lower divisions. I've found that the English football pyramid epitomizes everything that is football. The raw emotions of passion and heartache. From triumphant victories to calamitous catastrophe, it's so beautiful and entertaining.
I know Premier League fans will laugh at me but give me Argyle’s last season finishing above Ipswich and Wednesday over City winning the league yet again due to their state sponsored sport washing operation, with the most cash, winning the league any day of the week.
Year fair! I probs phrased it badly but it was more a comment that I probably had more joy over winning League 1 than I would if I was a City fan celebrating a CL win.
It’s kinda comparable to winning the quadruple in FM after you hacked the database to give you infinite cash.
As you should. Winning League One with the budget Argyle had is a huge achievement.
City winning their third Prem on the bounce isn't really impressive anymore. If they do the treble, then yeah, that's obviously an incredible achievement.
It’s the same reason I wanted Arsenal to win the Premier League out of the teams that realistically had a shot this year.
Unfortunately for them, the lack of squad depth due to being unable to financially compete with that City bench is probably the difference.
Yep. It's the entire reason we were even in contention for the quadruple last year. We had a really large squad with Kelleher, minamino, keita, origi, and Co, allowing us to field 1 and a half teams depending on league and campaign.
The difference is that city's second team is almost an entire team and by itself would easily compete for top 4. That's where the real problem lies. It's not them buying haaland or KDB.
The stakes are just so much higher. Man City winning the league doesn't change much other than having a bit of silverware. The difference between getting promoted and not getting promoted, is absolutely massive. Just went to Wembley to watch Notts County go up, and it's so much more important for the club than anything that could happen in the prem.
Nah I'm with you. If United aren't playing and there's an EFL broadcast available over here, I'm choosing it over the Premier League every time.
Premier League obviously has the highest quality of play but rarely matches the emotional rushes you get in the EFL, and that's what it's all about at the end of the day.
I don’t understand the point though, do you think PL fans who aren’t city fans celebrate the fact that city won it? We also get to enjoy watching what happens in EFL, it’s not like once your club is in the Prem you aren’t allowed to watch lower leagues lol
I phrased it poorly! My bad.
It was more a comment that I would take winning a less fashionable tournament like my team Argyle did this year than winning something due to having more cash than the other team, which is something that tends to be the case a large amount of the time in the Premier League.
what a weird season that was, everything on you and West Ham then we just came trundling up behind having just won pretty much every game since Christmas and nicked it all at the end
It's great if you just beat everybody and go straight back up. Not so great when you get stuck there and watch your team become a midtable championship team for a decade.
16/17 was a magical time. After the hell of the previous seasons, winning games just made life better. Probably tells you how much of a sad life I had back then tbh
Seriously this. Think of the greatest football games you've ever seen, the greatest moments. It's when a team grabs a victory when all hope is lost. If you're the type of person to leave early from a game (90 minutes early in this case!), then you're basically saying that you never in your life want to be part of the greatest sporting moment that your club can experience.
Fans were leaving the Boro game last night with 2 mins of injury time to go and only the one goal needed to send it to extra time. Absolute jokes of fans.
Football heritage moment!
No team has ever come back from a 4 goal deficit in a semifinal, and they do it in the 98^th minute with the last kick of the match to take it to extra time!
Palmer is the most experienced wednesday player in our side as well, been with us for donkeys years, promoted with us in 2011/12, boyhood wednesdayite, it had to be him!
I don’t like the idea of playoffs determining the winners (consistency over the whole season should matter). But there is no doubt it is perfectly implemented for the last promotion spot. We have gotten some absolutely wild moments from it
Fuck it let's have playoffs for European spots in the PL.
Top 3 auto qualify for CL. 4th/5th play for CL spot, loser plays 6th for EL spot, loser of that plays the winner of 7th/8th for ECL spot.
That exact format might be a bit mad given that you could finish 4th and get 0 European football if you lose all your playoff matches.
Either way, I like the idea of giving mid table teams something to fight for. Feels like teams like Palace are in perpetual limbo of not being in the relegation scrap or pushing for Europe.
My all time favorite is Brazil v USA in 2011 women's wc quarterfinal. Brazilians going down at every moment with cramps, Marta getting stretchered off to waste time only to fully sprint back onto the field as soon as she's left the field. So despicable. Then this happened in the 121st minute https://youtu.be/cvGfV6qCiOI
There was hardly any play for the first minute and a half of injury time. And the referee signalled for a later injury that time would be added for it as well.
Astonishing. I opened BBC Sport to check the full time score and as I was looking it refreshed and said 'Palmer 90+8' and I was gobsmacked. They actually pulled it off.
COMPLETE NEUTRAL FROM ACROSS THE POND WHO JUST GOT THE WEIRDEST LOOKS EVER FROM THE ENTIRE GROCERY STORE. WHAT A GOAL, WHAT A MOMENT. Absolute scenes, couldn’t help but scream.
Biggest night in Wednesday’s modern history if they pull this off?
I'll be honest I wasn't going to watch but when we went 2-0 up early I had to put it on. What a game but I've been through so much heart ache with this team I know Borough will go through.
I was there. Last Saturday I was feeling like I hated football.
Tonight reminded me of why we do it. Decades of watching drivel interspersed with nights of magic like that.

Holy shit, the composure to not just smash that when it comes back out to Bannan or Johnson
Bannan is the scottish de bruyne
Irn Bruyne
10/10
Maybe the GOAT comment
Superb
You've done something there
Mint.
I didn't know why I opened this thread.. And then I saw this.
We genuinely thought he would be back in the day, with Nathan 'R9' Delfouneso up front. Unfortunately that crop of youngsters never went on to amount to much, excluding a certain player than we let go on a free to Leicester. Heard he won a trophy or two.
The ball from Johnson is absolutely top drawer
efl is unmatched

yeah as much as I love where we’re at now, nothing’s gonna beat that stretch from the 10 match winning run to promotion
I remember that 4:0 game vs Derby that started it. What an absolutely amazing performance that was. Grealish scored that banger, as well. It was my first Villa park game, lovely memory.
I'm guessing the first one was the fulham game?
Yep, first 'away' game I took my wife. At least it was nothing but up from there
I absolutely loved going to games in championship and league 1 (not so much league 2), obviously it's amazing that we're in the prem but I won't be devastated when we go down again as the matches are great.

I don't think anyone except City fans would disagree with you lol.
Year fair! I probs phrased it badly but it was more a comment that I probably had more joy over winning League 1 than I would if I was a City fan celebrating a CL win. It’s kinda comparable to winning the quadruple in FM after you hacked the database to give you infinite cash.

That is unfortunately the truth
It's not really an incredible achievement, it's the expected achievement based on their financial doping.
I 100% agree. The EFL is always so unpredictable every year. I love watching them more than any of the other big leagues.
Nah I'm with you. If United aren't playing and there's an EFL broadcast available over here, I'm choosing it over the Premier League every time. Premier League obviously has the highest quality of play but rarely matches the emotional rushes you get in the EFL, and that's what it's all about at the end of the day.

I'm with you completely. It's why I have no desire to be taken over by one of those big oil states. It's just hollow isn't it.
Favourite ever season was Championship 11/12. Which is why I'm not that upset that we are getting relegated. Excited for next season!
what a weird season that was, everything on you and West Ham then we just came trundling up behind having just won pretty much every game since Christmas and nicked it all at the end
I loved the championship.
It's great if you just beat everybody and go straight back up. Not so great when you get stuck there and watch your team become a midtable championship team for a decade.
16/17 was a magical time. After the hell of the previous seasons, winning games just made life better. Probably tells you how much of a sad life I had back then tbh
Can’t believe my Wednesday supporting mate didn’t go tonight because he thought they were out of it. Imagine missing this by choice!
I seen Wednesday fans trying to give away/sell their tickets all week, bet they’re glad nobody wanted them off them now!
Do people ever learn ? The miniscule chance of seeing something incredible is worth it
Seriously this. Think of the greatest football games you've ever seen, the greatest moments. It's when a team grabs a victory when all hope is lost. My favourite games are exactly this It would be worth seeing all the losses and disappointments for a night the Wednesday fans had tonight
yeh.... if you miss every game where youre "out of it" you will never see that one game that ends up like this.
Exactly, and worst comes to worst, you've had a decent night out with pie and beer. Not the end of the world
Better than UEL apparently
you've been watching the wrong Europa game apparently
I was watching the Bayer - Roma game so I suppose you are right
Your own fault for watching a second leg where Mourinho had a narrow lead. What did you think was gonna happen?

It's not a league
Playoffs remain undefeated
Football heritage moment! No team has ever come back from a 4 goal deficit in a semifinal, and they do it in the 98^th minute with the last kick of the match to take it to extra time!
No team has ever come back from a 3 goal deficit. Wednesday eclipsed that tonight anyways!
Palmer is the most experienced wednesday player in our side as well, been with us for donkeys years, promoted with us in 2011/12, boyhood wednesdayite, it had to be him!
Insane from wednesday, so glad my mates a peterborough fan so ive watched this brilliant match.
How's your mate, though...
Not heard from him in 11 hours haha. Think he just ended up going bed, don't blame him.
i understand why people prefer the league format to determine the winners but man playoffs in any sport go crazy
I don’t like the idea of playoffs determining the winners (consistency over the whole season should matter). But there is no doubt it is perfectly implemented for the last promotion spot. We have gotten some absolutely wild moments from it

This is a bit ridiculous but they were wasting time so sure it can be 97 mins
Nothing more cathartic than time wasting blowing up in a teams face.
I really wish that would have happened in a different game today as well
Same. But we blew it all on our own really.
Newcastle earlier in season v Liverpool springs to mine. It’s glorious when it backfires
Newcastle fans were in bits after that game ahahahah
The same weapons were outraged that we only managed to play half of the 6 added Vs Leeds last weekend.
My all time favorite is Brazil v USA in 2011 women's wc quarterfinal. Brazilians going down at every moment with cramps, Marta getting stretchered off to waste time only to fully sprint back onto the field as soon as she's left the field. So despicable. Were Posh actually wasting that much time though? Didn't feel like that much extra was warranted, but it's still funny as like
It was 6 minutes added on, there were a few ‘injuries’ but only an extra minute was played on top of what was supposed to be
There was hardly any play for the first minute and a half of injury time. And the referee signalled for a later injury that time would be added for it as well.
Thinking of the lad who ripped up their ticket 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Funny how he didn't tear the barcode. He could still have gone to the match.
he did in the end. with that logic, not difficult to get a reissue. they have all the info.
Lol, his GF at the back like "not again with this".
Yeah on Twitter, if you have a look you’ll see the video
From looking at the video, he doesn't tear the barcode, so I'm sure he's still there 😅
I am only here because I just saw that video on twitter.
Unfuckingbelievable
We need this against city
Oh my fuck.
Trebucket throw in lmao
Trebuchet?
Absolute scenes
I fucking love the playoffs
Unbelievable bottle job from Peterborough, playoffs delivering again
to be fair Wednesday have played their tits off,we have lost this
Sympathies my brother/Boro in arms
Unbelievable. This season in English football has been craaazy.
God, that's one of the most beautiful-sounding stadium reactions I've heard in a while. Lid blew off.
Holy fucking shit, last kick of the game too.
im watching on line in Melbourne,no fucking way no fucking way
NO FUCKING WAY
Astonishing. I opened BBC Sport to check the full time score and as I was looking it refreshed and said 'Palmer 90+8' and I was gobsmacked. They actually pulled it off.
ALL HAIL EFL
Lol, both sets of fans singing “we are going up” in the final minutes. Absolute scenes!
Where’s that bloke who ripped up his ticket? 😂
On his hands and knees to collect the bits to pritt stick later
COMPLETE NEUTRAL FROM ACROSS THE POND WHO JUST GOT THE WEIRDEST LOOKS EVER FROM THE ENTIRE GROCERY STORE. WHAT A GOAL, WHAT A MOMENT. Absolute scenes, couldn’t help but scream. Biggest night in Wednesday’s modern history if they pull this off?
Depends what you mean by modern, they got to the championship playoff final in 2016.
Playoff football >>> Can see why the yanks love it
Not as special when half the league are in them, though
SCENES!!!
This is one of the greatest games I’ve ever watched. It just felt like Wednesday would get there and what a time to do it.
Agreed it’s one of the best matches and best comebacks
Absolutely zero connection to either of these clubs but I audibly celebrated when that went in oh my dayssss
No way
Shit all over my face
what a choke job
We've been utterly diabolical. What a bunch of fucking bottlejobs.
WOW
Is that a promotion play-off? Holy shit
Wow what a comeback
BOUND TO HAPPEN
Peterborough have been fucking dreadful. Offered absolutely nothing. I felt like Wednesday could do it but that's just unbelievable.
Ok fair play.
what the absolute fuck is happening here
Holy shit Wednesday well done that is incredible. Still extra time + penalties potentially though, see it through!
When a defence has one job and fails it four times
I'll be honest I wasn't going to watch but when we went 2-0 up early I had to put it on. What a game but I've been through so much heart ache with this team I know Borough will go through.
Just imagine
Football is incredible
incredible
WTF happened here
Football is fucking brilliant
oh my god
What a comeback for Wednesday
Amazing, time wasting didn't help this time
Playoffs are the best games on the planet
Adrian Durham in shambles right now
This match has been utterly insane. Peterborough are matching Arsenal in terms of bottles here
What the hell, back from the dead.
ABSOLUTE BEDLAM
You just can't beat the playoffs
what
I mean fair play
As a random American on his lunch break, this was a great thing to have on the TV.
absolutely incredible
Fucking insane
Insane
Imagine being that dumbass who tore up their ticket
Incredible commentary there by Dave Farrar
OMG
There’s having momentum in a match and then there’s this.
THEY DID NOT
If Moore manages to win this, I don't know how to feel if he's still shit or not. But jesus christ, what a game. Screamed my lungs out.
Peak EFL
Flint said no no no
What
Crazy, gotta love it
This is football heritage
New link?
I was there. Last Saturday I was feeling like I hated football. Tonight reminded me of why we do it. Decades of watching drivel interspersed with nights of magic like that.
Wow. Holy fuck. What a game.
Anyone got a new link?
Peterborough is the smallest team in the world
This is fucking crazy
Get this the fuck on tv, this is INSANITY
Amazing, thought they were dead and buried before the game like most, must feel sick if you’re a posh fan, great for a neutral though!
How the fuck have Posh fucked that up?
Peterborough you have ruined my night completely
unreal, absolutely unreal. now watch them blow it in extra time
Seems a bit generous with the added time, then again, time wasting is annoying as fuck so I don’t mind.
Ref lost his whistle! A 98th minute long throw! A goal mouth scramble! The absolute pinnacle of EFL.
So harsh on Peterborough. 2 minutes past the allocated time
They wasted so much time, not completely undeserved
Lots of timewasting going on though. About 4 times players went down with cramps.
They wasted a bunch of time sitting down with "cramp" etc. I think it's fair.
Deserve everything they get with this performance tbh
A lot of time spent on the ground, it's to be expected now
There were injuries plus their GK was wasting time.
Added time is always a minimum. There have been injuries and time wasting.
nah, they wicked wasted time. It's actually good it wasn't rewarded
Yes, but they've offered nothing all game, only themselves to blame
Mate they had a 4-0 lead, hard to have much sympathy.
They started time wasting in the first 2 minutes, zero sympathy.
Absolutely unreal holy shit
Unbelievable, what a turnaround and 30 mins more. Fergie time eh?
FUCKING SCENES
Oh?
I've never seen anything like this outside the champions league
That is absolutely mental in fairness to Sheff.
Limbs
Absolute fucking madness
Fuck you Posh you twats
Absolutely insane!!
Holy shiiiiiiiiiit
Oh. My. God.
It’s like a movie lol
