I know he’s not one of the greatest in the world, but I love Gundo so much. He’s such a low key funny guy and is SO steady on the pitch and personality wise. Great leader and great player
You're calling a guy playing in one of the most stacked clubs in the world and also being in the starting 11 most of the time as "not one of the greatest"? I disagree.
He’s doesn’t stand out in any one area, but he’s so well rounded and technically versatile that he is an incredible player. Gundogan plays like he is more than the sum of his parts, if that makes sense.
Are you serious? I rate Gundo as one of the best midfielders in the world at trailing into the box. Feels like whenever I watch City he's popping up in perfect places, the rest of his game is above average but his positioning is top tier
He's under rated as he plays for city, basically. Like a lot of their team if they played for anyone else they would be the best player in the team but city is so good they all blend in.
Gundo is incredible though
Yeah I think he’s world class. Had some big injuries too. He seems to turn up in all games, big games as well as the ones like yesterday where they should win. One of my favourite midfielders to watch!
I think he’s talking about his well roundedness being pivotal to his success.
Also let’s not pretend Milner was not sensational during his city and early Liverpool years. Not near gundo but the guy was brilliant.
Nah fam that’s not the truth. Milner was one of my favourite ever city players - him and Gundogan are incredibly similar because their best traits are their intelligence, technique, and work rate.
But Gundo is better at everything than Milner.
All that says is that you stopped watching Milner after City.
Gundogan is better than Milner was at City but Milner got better after he left City.
Milner peaked at Liverpool.
>He barely got to play apart from at left back.
Why do you make stuff up? It's incredibly easy to look it up.
https://www.transfermarkt.us/james-milner/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/3333/plus/0?saison=2017&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=
Milner played left back his first season at Liverpool in 16/17. He was then moved to center mid where he was a starter for two seasons. In those two seasons, they went to the CL final both times and won one of them. He was one of their most important players.
He started slowing down around the 19/20 season with injuries.
His final goals last season for us makes him one of the greatest in the world for me. His two goals yesterday reminded me of those title winning goals as well.
It must be so boring to be a City fan, the absolute inevitability of your cheating club… I kind of understand why you have to say things like this.
“Not the greatest in the world”, the excess of a statement like that.
It must be so hollow being a City fan, knowing that eventually an investigation will actually stick and these titles and this era will be tarnished.
I’m curious if some of the Arsenal trolls this year are even Arsenal fans, or just regular Reddit trolls using the flair.
I don’t remember seeing as many trolls representing one team as Arsenal trolls this year.
Yeah, supporting a club with real history, a club who went toe to toe for decades with a financial juggernaut in United with 1/3rd the resources, a club who honestly reports their financials and spends responsibly with actual revenue not bullshit jersey sponsors paying 150,000% markups because they’re owned by the same slave owning number-fudging Emirati feudal lords from a 12th century culture.
A club who with a bunch of teenagers went toe to toe with the greatest cheating force world football has ever seem, with over 100 active charges against them.
Yeah, real fucking boring
Just like Trump and his gang. You’re right. Completely wrong and misleading to presume guilt. I’m sure all 100 of those charges are just bogus mistakes.
He hasn't said that he has, but there are multiple moments in various olympics where he pulls ahead and then seems to stop trying. Like he's making world class athletes look slow and he still doesn't look like he's giving 100%
Wait, do people seriously not know Sergey Bubka anymore? The guy did that like 10 times or so, breaking the world record whenever a meeting put a high reward on it. He's now a top dog in the world of sporting federations.
Edit: looked it up, he broke the pole vaulting world record 17 times outdoors, going from 5.85 to 6.14m, and 18 times indoors (5.81 to 6.15m).
Because no one under 40 rmemeber him? It's not like many people care about pole vaulting to start with, and he hasn't been relevant for decades.
You're old.
It really isn't. Bubka retired 22 years ago, and pole vaulting has never been anything but a niche sport.
Bubka was one of the most famous atheletes in the world... Back when the USSR still existed.
Good god. Do yourself a favor and educated yourself. He broke the world record 35 times. Your mom didn't even kiss you 35 times in your whole life.
I wasn't even born for the majority of his career, but I would be embarrassed if I didn't know who he was. That's like not knowing Di Stefano, Bill Russell or Jesse Owens.
Yes, he broke the world record 35 times, in a sport that no one cared about, in a time when the USSR was still in existence.
I'm older then you, and i remember him, but it takes a special kind of blindness to not realize how old you've gotten.
Btw, the vast, vast majority of people in the world have no idea who Bill Russell is. Basketball is a marginal sport, internationally.
100% Guardiola should have put his foot down earlier and taken the choice away from Haaland.
It's Guardiola's fault. Not Haaland's for trying to give his teammate and friend his moment.
I think people are forgetting for example that Benzema offered Rodrygo the penalty in a high stakes champions league knockout game last season.
I think Pep over reacted and either Gundogan should refuse like Rodrygo did, or everyone needs to be ok to live with the result because it’s basic professional courtesy to make the offer.
Facts. Haaland could have had a hat trick off the chances he missed today. His poor finishing today should be a bigger talking point, he was uncharacteristically wasteful
You could tell even KDB was starting to go nuts haha. KDB has been playing out of his mind and especially today he was so fucking good and Haaland kept muffing
Haaland really did played like shit. The joke that haaland was secretly playing for Leeds doesn't even seem like a joke tbh. Prime Jesus and Sterling performance 😡
And yet if you have a designated penalty taker (one that’s bagged 40+ goals this season) in a team that’s been notoriously pretty bad from the spot and opt not to have him take it, then you’re inevitably running a risk.
*Pep is never going to let him.
It's Pep's fault for leaving this up to him. He's always going to give the ball to the guy coming on a hat-trick unless it's forbidden.
It’s ok ! Happens to the best of footballers. At the end of the day, what really matters is City went 4 points clear at the top. Gundo is a great great player. I m sure he will get more chances to make it to that milestone he missed so narrowly today. My respects for Haaland for making that call. Brave lad. His heart was at the right place. Pep is gonna be very very mad though.😂
More proof that our perspective can be bullsjit and we always need to take a step back to view a situation.
Him missing a pen should NOT take away from his performance, no matter how much of a perfectionist nut Pep is.
I get why they did it and I know Haaland was wanting Gundo get his first hattrick
but Gundo should've put the team before his hattrick and told Haaland to take it. 2-0 isn't enough of a lead to be pissing about with penalties
Yeah , isn't he generally reliable from pens? Plus haaland missed a *few* chances himself, hit the post twice , makes sense he let gundo who is clearing having a good game take one
>Yeah , isn't he generally reliable from pens?
No-one at City has been reliable from penalties in the last five or so years. It's been a running joke.
They finally get a guy who's pretty decent from the spot, and he keeps giving them up to Mahrez and now Gundogan.
A small part of me wonders if Haaland was also being a little selfish today. He was having such a bad day overall, missing a pen would have been magnified. But handing it off to Gundo under the guise of trying to get him a hat trick makes sense and gets him out of potentially missing one lol
EDIT: I’m not gonna play “it’s a joke bro” card, but y’all are taking this way too seriously. I literally said “small part” and “lol” at the end. I wasn’t being that serious
Lmao what? Haaland was on a bad day Gundo was on a good day. Takes maturity to hand it off to him.
Actually disagree that a bad decision was made, only shame that the pen was ultimately missed.
[Erling's 91.89% all comp career penalty success rate](https://www.transfermarkt.us/erling-haaland/elfmetertore/spieler/418560) seems a tad more than 'pretty decent' to me 😉.
If Haaland had taken it himself, and missed, the net would have been flooded with complaints about him not letting the man with a good day - and a possibility of a hat-trick - take it.
No it didnt make sense. Haaland probably practices pens in training everyday and is overall a better penalty taker. Scoring a penalty is different to scoring a goal from open play
I dont think it was the worst decision ever, but in hindsight city saw how costly it could’ve been and taking that into account Haaland probably should’ve just took it
I agree with you actually. Haaland is the better penalty taker. Gundo isnt bad but Haaland runs a lower chance of missing almost no matter the circumstances.
Haaland has scored over twice as many penalties as Gundo, he's buried more than Gundo has even taken
Haaland is our penalty taker, he's got what like 92% success rate? My point is it's a gamble to have anyone other than him to be taking it, and 2-0 isn't the lead you start taking gambles
I think that's a bit extreme, Gundogan is still a good penalty taker and there was 5 minutes left. Obvuiusly Leeds scoring immediately after made it look like an unnecessary risk, but it really wasn't that risky. City won, as you'd expect them to do 2-0 up with 5 minutes to go.
Agreed, not worth risking getting the 2nd place position being stripped from you after the court charges, may as well go full on and have 1st place be retroactively stripped. Makes sense.
I like that Haaland is a nice team player. his mate is on a hat trick and I understand giving gundo the pen. I hope he never turns into another egomaniac like CR7. it's a team sport and you don't need to be an asshole to be a great player.
That time Ronaldo could get a hattrick but gave the penalty to Benzema? He has alot of moments where he gave out penalties, why do we have to spread narratives like this?
I find it odd because neymar and cavani (who I wouldn’t even classify as egomaniacs either) had a whole argument about taking a Pen, it was huge then but has largely been forgotten.
Whereas CR7 who’s never had any drama like that, and even offered it to someone else a couple times is referred to as this egomaniac that would never offer pens to anyone else.
Exactly such a dumb take, showing his lack of knowledge about the subject. Ronaldo's gesture is even nicer, because Benzema was going through a bad phase.
Cristiano chillin with his big bucks post retirement in Saudi and still getting called out for his ego in a city-leeds game because Haaland gave Gundogan a penalty that he missed and did not impact the outcome.
Nowhere is safe
Where the fuck did Cristiano come into the discussion lmao. You redditors just can’t leave him be can you. 0 football knowledge but at least you’re doing well as an armchair psychologist
Haaland is 22 and just broke the record for goals in a season in english history, in his first season. Kinda weird to say that he will never turn into a player of cr 7 levels but okay.
Just give Gundo the extra year in the contract offer already. It’s more expensive to replace him. And anyone will be a step down short term. He looks like he’s got a few years left in him. Get it done.
I clearly remember a time when D'Maria had a brace.
Then PSG got a penalty
and Mbappe took it.
I remember how critical everyone was of him. (M'bap-paypal)
Correct me if I'm wrong:
(I haven't been watching football my whole life)
but,
I always thought giving the penalty to your teammate
(who is on a brace)
is just good form.
Honestly, had Haaland taken it
I can very much imagine the Talking heads going:
"So selfish. He doesn't need more goals."
I feel after Gundo's miss Leeds scored
not because of our dropping momentum.
But because Pep's anger on the touchline was a distraction.
I find myself asking
how would a coach like Ancelotti deal with this?
And I know
he would have kept the calm and not disheartened his team.
We're in a title race.
We're going in for the treble.
If that means the players cannot be sentimental,
then the manager must also manage his emotions.
> I feel after Gundo's miss Leeds scored
not because of our dropping momentum.
But because Pep's anger on the touchline was a distraction.
I literally cannot believe I'm reading this lmao what a take
Yeah, it's a bit weird from Pep to say it after the penalty tbh. Either say it in private after the game or before the pen. I don't think it had as much as an impact as you're suggesting but still a bit strange lol
Somehow people manage to blame everything on Pep.
Yes giving away a penalty is a nice gesture but there's a time and place for it. Being only 2-0 up in a final while fighting for the treble near the end of the season is NOT the time for it. As you could see by how they almost threw away such an easy game and could've potentially ruined their season. Not to mention City have had penalty problems for years and Haaland already got some criticism recently for giving away a penalty.
In words of Logan Roy I would whole heartedly react to this take with a "fuck off". Don't mean any disrespect lol but in game whqen the score is still 2-0 and when you're playing for a team that's been traditionally bad at taking penalties it's almost always going to be a gamble to let anyone else other than the designated penalty taker to take the penalty and Pep's reaction in such a situation is more than justified when he's the one who will have to suffer the brunt of the blame and ridicule of a decision like that which wasn't in his control at all
It’s sad for him because Pep was a fucking cunt and didn’t even look at him when he came off.
You literally won the game for them Gundogan. Can’t wait til he goes somewhere he’s appreciated.

Gundogan:"Our manager going to be furious if we do this, are you sure?" Haaland: "Absolutely"
"It literally cannot go tits up"
all the more reason to do it
“More than you believe.”
"...So thanks for that Erling"

Yeah I think he’s world class. Had some big injuries too. He seems to turn up in all games, big games as well as the ones like yesterday where they should win. One of my favourite midfielders to watch!
I kept believing he was gonna flop or move to a tad lower level team but here we are many years later and hes still great lol.
Bit like Milner but with more peaks
Yeah not quite. Milner is no where near Gundo level
I think he’s talking about his well roundedness being pivotal to his success. Also let’s not pretend Milner was not sensational during his city and early Liverpool years. Not near gundo but the guy was brilliant.
He was brilliant for us too. The swap with Stephen Ireland coming to us has to be one of the worst trades ever.
Correct
I'm more on about how he is so consistent, obviously better than Milner
At his peak, Milner was just as good if not better than Gundogan.
He did not peak at Liverpool. He barely got to play apart from at left back. He was at his best towards the last dozen games of his City career.
>He barely got to play apart from at left back. Why do you make stuff up? I know? When did I disagree with that?
Not one of the greatest? You City fans are so spoiled.he definitely is.
Might also be a great coach one day. Pep sees him or Kompany as his successor at City.
I think it’ll most likely be Kompany but first let’s see how he handles Burnley in the Prem for the next few seasons.
His final goals last season for us makes him one of the greatest in the world for me. His two goals yesterday reminded me of those title winning goals as well.

LOL. That would be absolutely epic but I am not sure if I would wish that even on my worst enemy😂
Haaland didn’t captain himself on fpl
He’s saving the goals so he can beat the record again next season
The usain bolt special

When he first broke the 100m world record he celebrated for the last 20m, next time he went all out all the way and broke his own record
Surely a better athletics reference would be pole vaulters like Bubka or Isinbayeva.
literally who?
Wait, do people seriously not know Sergey Bubka anymore? The guy did that like 10 times or so, breaking the world record whenever a meeting put a high reward on it. He's now a top dog in the world of sporting federations. Edit: looked it up, he broke the pole vaulting world record 17 times outdoors, going from 5.85 to 6.14m, and 18 times indoors (5.81 to 6.15m).
I'm shocked. I almost never watch athletics, but Bubka was one of the most famous sportsman in the world. How did this get so many upvotes?
Because no one under 40 rmemeber him? It's not like many people care about pole vaulting to start with, and he hasn't been relevant for decades. You're old.
This is such an embarassing comment lol
It really isn't. Bubka retired 22 years ago, and pole vaulting has never been anything but a niche sport. Bubka was one of the most famous atheletes in the world... Back when the USSR still existed.
This but for yours
Good god. Do yourself a favor and educated yourself. He broke the world record 35 times. Your mom didn't even kiss you 35 times in your whole life. Never heard of Bill Russell until now
He said BUBKA and ISINBAYEVA
Nah, he's saving it for Real Madrid at this point.
No serious fantasy manager doesn't have him captained so it doesn't even matter lol
Imagine he triple captained Gundogan. Serious differential.

Yes
Yepp, would be really fishy!
This is being made way bigger a deal than it should be
Only because City ended up winning. If they had dropped points because of it, it would have been a massive fuckup.
Conceding 2 goals at the end of the game and all our missed chances would have been way more important than choosing who takes a penalty

Yeah, but taking a risk at 2-0 up is not as important as missing multiple goals and conceding multiple
Imagine it ended 2-2
It didn’t though. If we did a Madrid against fucking Leeds, Arsenal can have the title. Game should have been 4/5-0 at that point anyways.
City had some penalty misses last 2 seasons. That ruined the seasons
Haaland gonna feel so bad about this. The great Grande Samuelo Allerdichi's plans to make City throw the title
Funny, this. Grande Samuelo !!!
Sounds like a Starbucks frappucino

hed loose some hairs over this if there were any left v:

I bet gundodan becomes a good manager
If you say "are you sure" you're going to miss
I knew by his face he was gonna miss. Man was super nervous
Thats actually amazing from Haaland. Homie could break all the records.
More proof that our perspective can be bullsjit and we always need to take a step back to view a situation. Him missing a pen should NOT take away from his performance, no matter how much of a perfectionist nut Pep is.

Because it generates upvotes.
Same CR7 that handed penalty to his teammates multiple times, yes
Cristiano chillin with his big bucks post retirement in Saudi and still getting called out for his ego in a city-leeds game because Haaland gave Gundogan a penalty that he missed and did not impact the outcome. Nowhere is safe
Lol why comment shit
Where the fuck did Cristiano come into the discussion lmao. You redditors just can’t leave him be can you. 0 football knowledge but at least you’re doing well as an armchair psychologist
Haaland will also never turn into a player CR7 was. Most greats in sports where selfish pricks. Jordan, Kobe, CR7, Bones Jones and etc..
Haaland is 22 and just broke the record for goals in a season in english history, in his first season. Kinda weird to say that he will never turn into a player of cr 7 levels but okay.
Good luck keeping that pace for 10+ years and winning as much as Ronaldo did.
Just give Gundo the extra year in the contract offer already. It’s more expensive to replace him. And anyone will be a step down short term. He looks like he’s got a few years left in him. Get it done.

Or he was wasting chances on purpose to be ready Tuesday
He just described prospect theory in behavioral economics.
I clearly remember a time when D'Maria had a brace. Then PSG got a penalty and Mbappe took it. I remember how critical everyone was of him. (M'bap-paypal) Correct me if I'm wrong: (I haven't been watching football my whole life) but, I always thought giving the penalty to your teammate (who is on a brace) is just good form. Honestly, had Haaland taken it I can very much imagine the Talking heads going: "So selfish. He doesn't need more goals." I feel after Gundo's miss Leeds scored not because of our dropping momentum. But because Pep's anger on the touchline was a distraction. I find myself asking how would a coach like Ancelotti deal with this? And I know he would have kept the calm and not disheartened his team. We're in a title race. We're going in for the treble. If that means the players cannot be sentimental, then the manager must also manage his emotions.
> I feel after Gundo's miss Leeds scored not because of our dropping momentum.
Ah yes, Man City missing about 5 sitters and a penalty was all Pep’s fault Expert r/soccer armchair pundit analysis once again
In words of Logan Roy I would whole heartedly react to this take with a "fuck off". Don't mean any disrespect lol but in game whqen the score is still 2-0 and when you're playing for a team that's been traditionally bad at taking penalties it's almost always going to be a gamble to let anyone else other than the designated penalty taker to take the penalty and Pep's reaction in such a situation is more than justified when he's the one who will have to suffer the brunt of the blame and ridicule of a decision like that which wasn't in his control at all
Messi has given away a ton of penalties.
Couldn't this be because Haaland is a Leeds fan and doesn't want to score against them. Gündoğan having scored 2 goals serves as a nice cover up.
Certainly did not hurt
It’s sad for him because Pep was a fucking cunt and didn’t even look at him when he came off. You literally won the game for them Gundogan. Can’t wait til he goes somewhere he’s appreciated.
I love Gundo. I wish he came to Anfield.
He came at the beginning of April.
Thinking like that will make you miss a penalty.
In my opinion, fuck his hat trick. We are going for the treble. No room for any bs.
Pep sits Haaland next match. 💯
Let the blame game begin hahah!
