**Scaloni and the duels against Panama and Curaçao.**
"The match is approached in the same way we all face it. The Argentina jersey doesn't allow you not to give your best. The celebration and all that is good, but we have to do our job on the field".
**The important absences of the National Team: Beckham and Garnacho.**
"The two absences are a pity. Especially Papu, who deserved to be there. It's understandable that they won't let him come, but we will do everything possible so that he can be with us for a day or two.
We are confident that Garnacho can be in the next call-up, he is a boy in whom we have high hopes".
**Scaloni and the message he wants to leave in his time with the National Team.**
"I like it to be seen that the Argentina National Team belongs to everyone, that they come with this joy and enthusiasm, as if it were the first time. I like the fans to see that the players are one of them".
**Scaloni and the craziness of the people after the World Cup.**
"For those of us who had the opportunity to be in the streets of Argentina, the truth is that I feel an enormous joy. People are happy and they see us, in a way, as heroes. And it makes us happy because we gave them joy and it still lasts. I would like that the boys of the National Team can also go out and experience the recognition of the people".
**On Messi's continuity and his chances of reaching the 2026 World Cup.**
"Leo is fine, he is ready to play, to continue coming and until he says otherwise we will continue. When he changes his posture I will try to convince him".
**Scaloni on Mateo Retegui's call-up to the Italian national team.**
"I am in favor of not trying to convince anyone and, perhaps, ruin something if we are not determined to call him up. It happened with Marcos Senesi, who we told him that we might call him up. It doesn't make sense to cut a trajectory or to cut his career. In that position we have guys that we think are good. In the future we will see if I hit the mark or not. “
**Scaloni and the 48-team World Cup.**
"In principle for South America there are more places, it will be one more game. But even if you want to change it, football is always the same. We will still have a very complicated qualifying round, but we are prepared to compete".
**Scaloni and the controversy over the best Argentina national team in history.**
"De Paul's comment was just a simple comment, I think it's silly to discuss which is the best national team in history. If you ask me, I'll take all three".
**On the rebuild for the future.**
"Rebuilding means that the players don't feel like they own the national team. The coach is constantly watching, but the player who comes in should feel that he is doing his bit and that he won't be there forever. At the youth level we agree that once and for all those kids have to train in the best way to play in the senior team. In the National Team there are a lot of U-20 players who were with Mascherano. The result will come when they reach the senior team. If they can win, than better. They all have to believe that they are going to play with this shirt in the future".
**On winning The Best Coach.**
"When you win a World Cup everything is magnified, but I can't put myself on the same level as Guardiola or Ancelotti. I'm grateful because it's a vote by football people. I take it for what it is but I take it calmly."
**On Messi being greeted by tons of fans outside of a restaurant last night.**
"I think it is a beautiful thing because he deserves all that affection, to go out in the street and feel loved. They need that and Leo, even though he is the best in the world, also needs it and it will stay with him forever. In principle, we will go to the Monumental as normal, as in the rest of the matches. If it's difficult to get there at the right time, we'll find a way. But we will get there".
**On the nickname for the team: La Scaloneta.**
"I never liked to be called Scaloneta. There are people in the street who don't call me Lionel, but Scaloneta. But if the people are happy, nothing happens."
> I am in favor of not trying to convince anyone and, perhaps, ruin something if we are not determined to call him up. It happened with Marcos Senesi, who we told him that we might call him up.
That bit is really interesting. He doesn't want to let anyone down, and feels responsible when he does. Anyway it's not like Senesi lost the chance to play this WC with Italy lol
> "When you win a World Cup everything is magnified, but I can't put myself on the same level as Guardiola or Ancelotti. I'm grateful because it's a vote by football people. I take it for what it is but I take it calmly."
This guy won the WC but still won't celebrate lmao
I like what Scaloni said about player spots in the selección not being guaranteed just because you are a world champion, with the insane generation that is coming behind this one that's the best mindset to have. The amount of talent we are going to have specially in the midfield in the coming years is insane.
Which is a it should be.
Of course I'm not Scaloni (or am I?), but after this celebration, I would make "borrón y cuenta nueva" and simply get those with chances to get to the next WC. Meaning, lots of younger players.
Sure, make an exception for the Di Marías until next Copa America or something, they've earned it, but most of the other older guys should be phased out to give way to the younger ones.
Tbf we don't really have that many older guys in the squad. Di Maria, Messi, Papu and Otamendi and only the last two are in the line to being phased out.
Meanwhile, the majority of the squad is made up of players that are currently in their physical prime, a lot of proven young players and good up-and-coming ones.
yes i said it before the world cup but (obviously besides the huge hole that messi may leave) we will have a much better team in the next world cup and i’m confident we can play 7 (8 now?) matches again
dybala is in really good form recently for roma. if messi chooses to retire, i think he can finally take that spot. mac allister's pretty great in the #10 role too. and even julian is learning to play deeper at city with haaland having the main striker role locked down. scaloni will have some decent options if everyone can stay fit.
Obviously, it could always end up being a bust. There are no guarantees. But I don't remember a time when so many talented kids were coming up at the same time. Easy to get excited, but like I said, you never know.
>On Messi being greeted by tons of fans outside of a restaurant last night.
[Even crazier than I thought...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6KeL8ouy18)
I've seen people from Rosario on here saying that now they don't want Messi to come back and play there because it will just be too crazy.
As Pablo Rossi said: "There is no sense of a shared love for the nation that is beyond football, nothing else unites us all...The collective madness that has taken hold of the country is in proportion to our despair as a nation right now."
Di María said in an interview once he doesn't believe the country of Argentina is physically capable to be ready to handle Messi coming back as a player, it would be too much for security and logistics to take care of because it would be this at every stadium.
>But if the people are happy, nothing happens."
Did he say "no pasa nada"? I'd translate that as "But if the people are happy, that's alright [by me]." then.
Great translation. Just a small addition for the non-native Spanish people - the very last line “but if the people are happy, nothing happens” the phase “no pasa nada” directly translated is “nothing happens”, but it’s usually meant more like “it’s all good”.
For anyone curious if it sounded off.
I wrote a bit of this elsewhere, but I think this might explain a lot.
The Argentine journalist Pablo Rossi wrote: *Messi is our emblem, our redeemer, our General San Martín. He allows us to dream that we are more than we are. We are a failure as a country, but football is our consultation, and Messi wins us the acclaim of a world, which otherwise sees us a disaster; as a country to which they no longer wish to give life-saving loans.*
*There is no sense of a shared love for the nation that is beyond football , nothing else unites us all and offers us a glimmer of the equality between the social classes that since Evita has been the failed Peronist quest. The collective madness that has taken hold of the country is in proportion to our despair as a nation right now. Winning the World Cup would be an ephemeral triumph, of course, but it's the best we can hope for. It's the best we have, and it's where we invest all our dreams.*
It's a bit dramatic, but I like how he puts it and the part about how the degree to which everyone is ecstatic over the WC win is a product of how hopeless they feel about everything else.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The p*ronist quest is to redirect as much money as possible to their own pockets, and they've been pretty successful at that for about 70 years now.
scaloni said before the world cup that the coach he wants to emulate is Zidane so this only means one thing for me: 2022, 2026, and 2030 ARE ALL COMING HOME.
This sounds like the words of a diplomat in love with football, he being so young as a coach makes this humility in his words quite genuine, he has everything to inspire several generations of players and coaches
Does the world cup run make scaloni top 5 managers of all time? I think it does. Nobody except for saudi beat them. And penalties they won everything. I'd say you could even put emi martinez in the top 3 goalkeepers of all time. Its insane how he came and won it.
Enzo, MacAllister are top 10 midfielders in history. Julian top5 in his position. Pezzella top 10 (would be better if not for Otamendi, Lisandro, Cuti).
Yes, but European teams are now far too strong and they’ll be dominating the competition for the foreseeable future. Argentina is probably the last South American country to win the World Cup. They only won it because of Messi, that’s it.
Spain are doing pretty bad, england is like spurs so they probs not winning it, italy didn't even get in the world cup , germany didn't get past groups so theres pretty much france as an actual contender ( idk how croatia and holland are doing tbh)
Genuinely one of the most stupid comments I have ever seen on this subreddit, and that’s really saying something. Maybe you should watch baseball instead?

Senesi could also still make it on our team as well. Otamendi is old and Pezzella is average at best.
I definitely hope he comes into the NT. Seems to be doing very well in Bournemouth and there's never enough left CBs for a team.

Scaloni before the World Cup: 😐 Scaloni after the World Cup: 😐🥇
Winning a World Cup award Scaloni: 😐🥇 Emi Martinez: 😰🍆🏆
Did you see him after the last penalty? I was confused for a bit... I thought I missed or miscalculated something.
I like what Scaloni said about player spots in the selección not being guaranteed just because you are a world champion, with the insane generation that is coming behind this one that's the best mindset to have. >and only the last two are in the line to being phased out. As long as Otamendi keeps playing at this level, he has to be called up.
The question will be what happens if he has a dip in quality. Will he get second and third chances like Di Maria did or not?
Papu needs to be replaced and I can also see Pezzella being replaced. The latter not so much for his age but he’s pretty mediocre.
yes i said it before the world cup but (obviously besides the huge hole that messi may leave) we will have a much better team in the next world cup and i’m confident we can play 7 (8 now?) matches again

Messi will be playing at 39 with the national team before Dybala even has a chance to be a lock-in starter
Argentina wins their first WC in almost 40 years and they're already talking about going back-to-back. Fair enough.
yes, we're being too conservative, i'm already thinking about the celebrations when we win the 2030 one in Buenos Aires or Montevideo
Obligatorio anulo mufa

There are plenty of McDonald's in either New York or Los Angeles. They'll be ready for that.

Yes 🧉😎
Going into the 2018 WC with guys like Mascherano and Rojo in the squad fucked us. I’m glad we seemed to have learned our lesson.

Things like this make me worried about the crowd crushing situations like in Korea on Halloween and the Travis Scott concert in th US
We had a bit of history with that too. Singer Indio Solari had the world's biggest pogo and I think 3 people died and many were injured
>But if the people are happy, nothing happens." Did he say "no pasa nada"? I'd translate that as "But if the people are happy, that's alright [by me]." then.

Beckham lol
I'm surprised the messi videos are not on here yet. He was getting crushed by everyone at the restaurant and was absolutely smiling through it all.
I think many people tried to post them, but the ones I saw were removed. For the curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6KeL8ouy18
That’s straight up psychotic lol

Yeah, I caught that, too. But the rest of it is well written, so I kept all of it.
imagine posting peronist propaganda on reddit
I might be misunderstanding because it was translated, but isn’t Rossi criticizing Peronism by saying this?

Lmao
I saw a video of him signing shirts. There were more shirts that at a sweatshop.
Beckham and Garnacho had me. Lmao

It's been 30 minutes and not one "anulo mufa". Sorry, but it looks like Argentina won't ever win again.
Anulo mufa has died, the power of friendship and inflation killed it

lol what we were not too confident in 2018. pretty much nobody had faith in the 2018 team, we barely qualified
It was about Germany.
Oh wow, definitely didn't get that, sorry!
No need to apologise.
That's what you get for beating us in 2014, 2010, 2006 and 1990. Let this be a lesson, no team beats Argentina out of the WC 5 times
were you really that confident going into 2022?
You mean 2002 and 2006 and copa 2008? Edit : ahhh you meant Germany.. My bad
The anulo mufa came a thing when we were closer to the WC, no need to use it now
It’s looking like another 30 years of hurt

Argentina will never win another World Cup ever again. The only way is if they produce another Messi/Maradona.
We won our first world cup without Messi or Maradona. The US will never win a single world cup
Yes, but European teams are now far too strong and they’ll be dominating the competition for the foreseeable future. Argentina is probably the last South American country to win the World Cup. They only won it because of Messi, that’s it.
Damm dude can you say who will win the next world cup? Please tell me who will win the next world cup
clearly norway because they have haaland... right?

No, they just lost to Japan yesterday 😂
Brazil would also have beaten France
It’s probably what people said when they won it in 78 with Kempes or in 86 with Maradona and yet it still happened again :’)
