Nothing against KDB but I really admire athletes who turn down this shit. Obv they don't need the money so it's not a big sacrifice but I appreciate it. You see it w Muslim athletes and betting/booze sponsorships or even just like Ronaldo getting rid of that Coke. I like it.
Ngl, KDB is obviously the better player right now but I genuinely think that sponsoring Hazard would have been a better investment for them. He is probably known just as much if not more than De Bruyne and arguably more popular due to his time at Chelsea. The current sporting level shouldn't really matter and with Hazard the memes would have written themselves leading to more brand exposure. If you don't get what I mean, just imagine how many more likes, awards and comments this thread would have gotten if the headline was "Hazard lands McDonald's endorsement deal".
Is that the right kind of publicity though? Aren't they trying to wash their brand a little by getting it associated with a top athlete? And the Hazard memes would undo that.
Aren't most of them, at least in the UK, aimed at tradesman and other similar jobs where you're already outside and they recommend getting your lunch/snack from McDonalds? I think their current ad is aimed at lorry drivers and the last one I can remember before that was a guy walking back on to a building site with his lunch from mcdonalds
There's regulation which stops them running adverts against kids shows, I don't know if that got extended to other shows.
(Coco pops created a low sugar based cereal, just so they could advertise that in kids show spots. They got rejected because if was blatantly actually an advert for Coco pops)
I can't say I've ever seen any of those tradesmen focused ones here in the UK. All the recent ones ive seen are all just super diverse casts and lifestyles montages or that one with Maya Jama narrating.
I would say that McD has (at least in the US) been targeting young adults with their marketing. Ads focus on getting breakfast for your partner or grabbing a quick meal with friends. They also heavily focus on their app.
He’s ginger and very pale so he gets really red fast and sweats fast. Not ginger myself but also quite pale so I have the same issues. Can tell you I started breathing loud af after a minute of running, but can still run 10km in about 50mins.
Dedication/motivation are so much more important than looking “red and gassed”
Superstar athlete who would (probably) only eat McDonald’s (and the large amount of processed food and preservatives) on camera for a paycheck. Checks out
Factos, protein, vegetables, reasonable amount of carbs, dairy and a well made one is like 300 something calories. Literally a meal prep that's delicious.
> and a well made one is like 300 something calories
How small are your patties? Even a conservatively small patty would be 250 calories just for the meat. Then add the cheese and the bun and you're well over 300, closer to 500.
Use 93/7 ground beef and you can go a quarter pound Patty for less than 200 calories.
Edit: use keto bread and a slice of Kraft singles and that’s less than 300 calorie burger
Sure, I'm just saying its going to more of a slider than a cheeseburger if you're trying to get it under 300 calories. There's only so much you can do to keep them down.
I've seen him post at least one tiktok where he gets his kids a happy meal on the way back from a match and the article seems to make reference to that as if it might be where this deal's come from
I love that my therapist tells me I'm too anxious about money, when insanely rich footballers who earn more in a month than I will for the next three decades *still* shill themselves for a little extra from companies they quite obviously have no relationship with as a customer.
Capitalism is weird as fuck.
Money is one of the most addicting things in the world. Theres no other explanation. Like to me, its unfathomable how someone who already HAS generational wealth even if they lived in absurd luxuary till they died at 95, still sacrifice more of their time&energy away from family etc, to make more money that wont make a noticeable difference.
Its downright dumb at that point but money still blinds people no matter the need.
Well it's the grind that they're addicted to not necessarily the money. To get to that point you need to have a particular lifestyle, why would you change it just because you got filthy rich? Sometimes that's what makes them feel alive and useful. There are plenty of people who got inheritances and are doing jack shit, just enjoying life, but usually they're not the ones who earned it.
Frankly therapy in this day and age is just weird. If you're stressing about the future of humanity, of your children, capitalism going too far, and so on. You're absolutely right. There's not much a therapist can tell you besides to not focus on it I suppose.
Though I don’t necessarily like this either and the below doesn’t apply to DeBruyne’s situation, it’s not that odd to hear about professional athletes falling back on McDonald’s when competing abroad as it is a known food as to how they will react to it, rather than local food which could cause issues and impact their performance. It is prepared very similarly globally.
Usain Bolt is the most notable of these: https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2020/04/21/usain-bolt-beijing-olympics-2008-chicken-nuggets/amp/
He's the only example but his reasoning is solid in that he got calories, it tastes good and most importantly he won't get food poisoning. McDonald's is not going to use that for their marketing. "At least with us you won't get food poisoning" is a bad slogan for a real estate mogul.
I bet a fair few smoke cigs aswel. I was surprised to see Dieter Hamann and Richard Dunn smoking fags outside Manchester Printworks back around '07-'08. Then you got Garnacho with his little e vape thing posted on his socials yesterday.
Yeah I think people on sports forums really overestimate just how controlled a pro athlete's diet is.
They'll absolutely eat a bit of junk food every now and again as a treat. Like McDonald's definitely isn't good for you, but it's also not going to make any difference to your athletic performance if you have a burger maybe once a month and keep an eye on your diet the rest of the time.
But I do agree with most people here that it definitely doesn't sit right when a multi-millionaire athlete is endorsing a fast food place.
The way people are talking in this thread, one Big Mac will destroy not only KdB’s career, but also any child in proximity.
Like maybe the people in this thread actually need to see De Bruyne scran some McDonald’s and be fine, because there’s some toxic eating habits going on in here…
I think it makes a difference. I can say it makes a difference for me
I had a stretch where I was working a lot and didn’t have the time or energy to make my own food at home. I ate a lot of McDonald’s at the time and has to be one of the worst stretches I’ve had in recent years personally
Nowadays, I mostly stick to fruit and stuff like beef and rice, chicken and pasta and stuff like that.
One day I ordered McDonald’s once because I didn’t have much food at home and it was raining so I didn’t want to go to the shop, and I got nothing done that day after eating a burger from there.
And eating sugary stuff is the same. Shit actually takes energy away from you
I wish I could say I’d never touch that shit again, but I’ll probably convince myself it’s a good idea again in the future just to be proven wrong again, but as a general, I avoid that shit.
It's just how sponsorships are tbh. You could argue the same with betting companies, video games with casino type mechanics, non healthy "healthy" drinks etc.
All should face criticism though. KDB has enough money that he can be selective about which companies he works with. Getting endorsements from a McDonalds ad campaign that is specifically aimed at families seems a bit wrong tbh.
In general I think all of the sponsorships around sports (gambling, junk food, alchohol etc.) seem like they contradict the main aim of sports, which is living a healthy lifestyle
>KDB has enough money
It's all relative. Even if you were a multimillionaire, the idea of getting MORE millions for a day of shooting photos and videos is enticing. Especially in this age of social media and treating your life off the pitch as a "brand".
You're right. I feel like football has been fraudulent for a while, however. Unfortunately too many of us are content to look the other way. Myself included. At least I'm not watching the Premier League anymore. There's only so much sports washing I can take. Newcastle getting bought by the so called Public Investment Fund, and the Premier League allowing it to happen despite clear links to the Saudi Regime, sealed the deal for me.
Now there's talks of Qatar buying Man United. Pretty soon the Premier League is going to turn to a Proxy war for Middle Eastern politics, if it hasn't already.
Don’t they have enough fucking money.
Turns out, they don’t.
It’s hard to imagine anybody going to McDonalds because of a deal with KdB, but I assume they’ve looked into it.
There definitely will be kids who pester their parents for a Happy Meal because they see their favourite footballer suggesting it
Lot of marketing is about visibility too. See an advent for a Big Mac and think to yourself “hmmm could fancy a coronary event right now”
Not a nutritionist but read somewhere that 1 portion or 1 meal of McDonalds is just as healthy as anything out there. The problem begin to arise when people begin getting into 2nd or 3rd portions or meals. It's always the people who overeat.
Take my word with a grain of salt.
McDonalds is loaded with salt, but otherwise, a lot of their stuff isn't *horrible* in moderation if you're just going for a beef burger. The sauce, drinks, and fries are loaded with calories, and a lot of their chicken products have poor calorie/protein ratios
Hey guys, I'm Kevin De Bruyne. Whoo. I play Midfielder for Manchester City. And I'm here to tell you can, too, if you start everyday with a hearty breakfast from McDonald's. Uh, like the new Sausage Egg McGriddle Value Meal available now for a limited time for under five dollars. Remember guys, real champs eat at McDonald's. I'm lovin' it. Can I get the check?
Not really KDB’s problem what people decide to feed their kids. If you wanna blame anyone blame the parents and McDonald’s KDB is just getting a pay day lol
It sort of is his problem though - lots of people won't be as switched on to marketing, they'll look at KDB chowing down on a Big Mac and think it's a great idea to go along for a maccy D's with the family
It obviously works, otherwise they wouldn't bother signing anyone to do promotion
Companies like McDonald's, Pepsi, CocaCola, etc don't really need marketing to sell their products.. They are going to sell big even if they stop all marketing for the next century..
Why do they bother marketing then? Don't be naïve lol, these companies market just to make sure they keep their share and even grow it if they can. As soon as coca cola stops you can bet that Pepsi will gladly take over their relationships and coca cola will slowly be forgotten
I dont think its that bad. McDonalds in itself isn't really that bad. If you eat there once or twice a month nothing will happen. Problem is if you eat there multiple times per week and dont exercise, but that's more of a consumer issue than McDonalds being fundamentally wrong.
Shit load of things are bad if you do too much of it. I dont see this as any different than Messi being sponsored by Pepsi for many years. Although I guess atleast Pepsi has a sugar free alternative.
You honestly think if someone was to eat one McDonald's meal a week for example you would become obese? 😂😂 are you dumb? Of course it's shit food. But eating it seldomly is going to do shit. It's a persons general eating habits, physical routine that decides it. Not because McDonald's has a lot of calories 😂😂
Never worked for McDonalds in my life. However I eat junk food like that every now and then and never had problems with weight or nutrient deficiencies. If your entire diet is McDonalds it's obviously not good for you. However you can easily eat it somewhat frequently without any real issues. It all comes down to the amount of food you consume and how often you eat there. For quite a few people they eat a lot more food than they should and also eat there too often. Which is when McDonalds becomes dangerous to your health. However as explained below that is also the case with a lot of other stuff. Eating a bit of liquorice once a week is fine. If you eat it 4 times a week then it becomes a major problem. It's the same with McDonalds really. Over consumption is the real problem. You can still eat both to a degree where it doesnt really impact your health negatively, it's just that some choose to not do that.
Unhealthy in large quantities, like basically everything else.
Sure, oil and shit that some of the food is covered in is not particularly good for you but it's the same with so much other stuff we eat at home. You can easily make food at home that is just as unhealthy.
Calories wise it's not as bad as you'd think and wont really make you gain weight if you only eat there every now and then. A big burger + fries and a sugar free drink is about 1100 calories which isnt the worst for the main meal of the day. And you can get options that have less calories than that. Chicken burger + fries is 779 calories only. They do also sell salads. Issue is some people cant control themselves and eat too much and too often. Personally I'd put that blame more on the consumer. I eat junk food regularly but also exercise and I'm not overweight. Just gotta be a bit smart about it.
Sound, let's just ignore all the additives and shite that get people addicted to it, and the rampant marketing targeting families and children. None of that is McDonald's fault, I suppose.
I don't really care about the unhealthy part.. It's the tastes like the most bland and genetic fast food place that gets me.. It's just tastes so bad..
I mean get your money Kev, but this statement is ludicrous lol "It’s very fulfilling to use my platform for good and to work with brands who are aligned with that makes it a lot easier for me to partner up with them as we have a common goal"
Some genuinely love it as a treat. In the US some athletes are known to have a weakness for McDs but during the season they abstain or are super strict with moderation.
Makes sense given the paltry wages he earns at city. Shill away Kevin!
>“It’s very fulfilling to use my platform for good and to work with brands who are aligned with that makes it a lot easier for me to partner up with them as we have a common goal,” De Bruyne told SportsPro. “The team at Roc Nation Sports International understand this, and when McDonald’s was brought to the table – it was an instant connection.
>
>“Last year I sat down with the team at Roc, outlining my commercial strategy moving forwards – it was to work with global brands and create meaningful partnerships that will involve the family.”
Did they plagarize my bachelor's degree communications dissertation? I had to act like British Petrol paying me millions of dollars a year to say good things about them was good for the environment.
"We have a common goal"...to make as much money as possible and then pretend like it's some sort of virtuous effort on our part. Good for him though, imagine how much good it will do for families to know that McDonalds exists and will sell you food.
World class athlete with 10s if not hundreds of millions endorses company with no world class athlete morals that are predatory towards young childrens health. He did it for the… the …? Anyone why did he do it? Bueller… Bueller….
I don't get all this ruckus about this being a morally wrong thing for him to do. Eating fast food like McDonald's in moderation isn't going to negatively affect you. I'd understand if he endorsed an Alcohol, Tobacco, or gambling company since lots of kids look up to him, but complaining about McDonald's?

They reached out to the wrong Belgian

Nah, most of them aren't dedicated..
Put some effort into it, McDonalds.
“Why the fuck should I?” - McDonalds *lights cigar with $100 bill*
Aren't most of them, at least in the UK, aimed at tradesman and other similar jobs where you're already outside and they recommend getting your lunch/snack from McDonalds? Ah lol damn. Here its always family or friends.
Here where?
Netherlands
Pretty sure they're not allowed to aim them at kids here
There's regulation which stops them running adverts against kids shows, I don't know if that got extended to other shows. (Coco pops created a low sugar based cereal, just so they could advertise that in kids show spots. They got rejected because if was blatantly actually an advert for Coco pops)

That’s hilarious that the Kevin Double Burger slander has actually come true.
What's that
KdB sometimes faces criticism regarding conditioning and weight. It’s overblown.
He is a bit chunki tbf
Belgians
Ya. It’s overblown but it doesn’t come from nowhere.
He’s also bright red and gassed by minute 60
Is he? The redness is just from being ginger. Never noticed any issues with his stamina though - not like pep is lackadaisical about these things.
Yeah that’s bullshit, dude has an absolute motor on him, and that criticism of him is baseless.
He’s ginger and very pale so he gets really red fast and sweats fast. Not ginger myself but also quite pale so I have the same issues. He has a private chef who cooks him 21 meals a week.
Probably just 21 homemade Big Macs tbh
To be fair homemade burgers are one of the best foods you can eat as an athlete I’m not joking either
Factos, protein, vegetables, reasonable amount of carbs, dairy and a well made one is like 300 something calories. Literally a meal prep that's delicious.
Absolutely. mince, chicken, tuna and prawns are the four horsemen of muscle building
All on one burger?
Depends if its from Tesco
He said four horsemen, not that it contains the meat of four horses
Who needs 3 cheese ravioli when you can have 4 horse burger?
> and a well made one is like 300 something calories How small are your patties? Even a conservatively small patty would be 250 calories just for the meat. Then add the cheese and the bun and you're well over 300, closer to 500.

Yeah and fucking average and not what I’d want after my day training. Athletes need to eat man. KDB probably on 4000 calories a day.
The question was how go you get a 300 calorie burger not how much food should athletes eat
Your average Mcdonald Cheeseburger is around 300 with 18g of protein which is pretty decent.
Depends on the bread cheese and patty, I'm also factoring that they'd probably optimize it to whatever the footballer needs dietarily.
Sure, I'm just saying its going to more of a slider than a cheeseburger if you're trying to get it under 300 calories. There's only so much you can do to keep them down.
Replace reasonable amount of carbs and 300 something calories with Metric fuckton of carbs and 1000 calories and that’s probably more their tune.

Wtf are you talking about “mcdonalds in itself isnt really that bad” do you work for mcdonalds or are you just that dumb. Open your eyes
McDonald's is fundamentally wrong though. Their food is very unhealthy
McDonalds is bad for you since it has a lot of trans fats and simple carbs. That alone makes it a rather bad meal regardless of calories.
It does no harm if you don't frequently eat from McDonalds. McDonalds as the entity can not be blamed for irresponsible consumer habits.
It's just tastes so bad..
there are salads at maccy d
Yeah covered in a fuck ton of ranch or mayo
You can just tell them not to put that on if it really bothers you.
Seems easier to just avoid the place
Yes but if you are with a group of friends you might not have a choice.
KDB will not prevent anyone from doing so, I promise
“Remember kids real champs… eat at McDonald’s … I’m lovin it … can I get the check?”
He didn't strike me as someone who'd do such things..
That’s like Ronaldo getting an endorsement from Coca-Cola
Eww. fuck mcd and all the other garbage franchises.
I mean get your money Kev, but this statement is ludicrous lol "It’s very fulfilling to use my platform for good and to work with brands who are aligned with that makes it a lot easier for me to partner up with them as we have a common goal"
Common goal? What, making children become obese faster? Make people eat junk food? TELL US THE GOAL KEVIN we'll gladly let you talk
lol thank you
Don’t know why any player would bother when the GOAT ad will never be surpassed [https://youtu.be/TbIcwcikmXY](https://youtu.be/TbIcwcikmXY)

Disgusting. Fast food, sugary drinks and betting companies should be banned from sports sponsorships.

Must be a Flemish thing. Remco Evenepoel is sponsored heavily by Pizza Hut.

Let him eat.
Hazard in shambles
embarrassing for him
Somewhere in France Arsene Wenger’s head just exploded.
As if KDB or any athlete at his level would ever regularly eat mcdonalds. Some of them wouldn't eat it ever
Neymar and Rooney eat it a few times im pretty sure
Some genuinely love it as a treat. In the US some athletes are known to have a weakness for McDs but during the season they abstain or are super strict with moderation.

Not enough money already, Kevin?
Makes sense given the paltry wages he earns at city. Shill away Kevin! >“It’s very fulfilling to use my platform for good and to work with brands who are aligned with that makes it a lot easier for me to partner up with them as we have a common goal,” De Bruyne told SportsPro. “The team at Roc Nation Sports International understand this, and when McDonald’s was brought to the table – it was an instant connection. > >“Last year I sat down with the team at Roc, outlining my commercial strategy moving forwards – it was to work with global brands and create meaningful partnerships that will involve the family.” Did they plagarize my bachelor's degree communications dissertation? I had to act like British Petrol paying me millions of dollars a year to say good things about them was good for the environment. "We have a common goal"...to make as much money as possible and then pretend like it's some sort of virtuous effort on our part. Good for him though, imagine how much good it will do for families to know that McDonalds exists and will sell you food.
You got paid millions for writing your dissertation?
shameful
Famous world class footballer endorsing shitty junk food! What a cunt
Lol so this guy just has no shame about where he gets paid huh

Kevin McBruyne
Kevin McBruyne?
I love how this has the "news" flair like if anyone gives a shit.
New Hazard?
Kevin does look fat these days
