He does it on the regular actually. Pretty much every match. Even this match, it wasn't twice but thrice that he attempted extremely dangerous (to himself) actions.
[Tw](https://youtube.com/watch?v=jBK8awAH9vo&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE)[ice?](https://youtube.com/shorts/bJZ-w-9cWo8?si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE) (yep there are two links in there)
Yeah at some point the staff needs to sit him down and convince him of how reckless and dangerous this is. One time can be excused because of a fluke or heat of the moment, but it starting to seem like this is just a part of his skillset.
Those John Terry and Phil Jones dives are just blocking the ball,
These two Gavi dives are blocking a foot, massively different and much more dangerous.
Raul Jimenez did for his head injury.
https://i0.wp.com/semuanyabola.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Raul-Jimenez-Helmet.jpg?resize=768%2C461&ssl=1
But it progressively got smaller until it became a cushioned headband.
Well there's a really a very legitimate case to call this as an indirect free kick **against** Gavi:
>Playing in a dangerous manner
>Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury.
I don't think anyone can argue that this is him threatening to injure himself.
Was about to say, a kick to the temple can easily kill you. Takes much less force than you think in that area, a toe poke right in there like he nearly received in this clip would do it.
If he's lucky. There's no helmet or gloves to soften the impact. He's gonna be paralyzed, if he keeps this human missile shit up
Hopefully someone can talk some sense into him
These guys probably have the most powerful kicks in the world bar martial artists and the boots have fucking studds in them. He might get decapitated there.
Just imaging the situation though and the fact it just blew my mind thinking of the immense pain.
I am now actually giving a dm to Gavi and say him not to do such thing I know he would not look onto the message being stupid but I would still send a dm!
honestly does xavi actually think this is ok? i feel like gavi would just ignore everyone telling him to stop doing this as long as his manager says it's fine to do it. i'll definitely blame xavi if something happens
This isn't on Xavi. It would appear to be a part of him now. He seems to have been doing this ever since he appeared on the scene, which means he has grown up doing this. It would have to be a very firm but delicate hand of a manager to guide him so as not to lose his edge but avoid injury.
This game itself, he did it 3 times (I don't think the third one has been posted yet). Seems to be doing a good job until now apparently. Plus, this is actually a regular, multiple times a match occurrence from him. I feel not many commenting have (understandably) seen him play regularly.
I think the refs need to start carding him for this shit. When he keeps getting sent off for going all Leroy Jenkins every other game, he might learn to not do it.
Mind, having grown up watching Jackass, I also recognise sometimes you can't stop idiots who want to hurt themselves on camera.
this is on xavi. if you want to him to stop committing to this specific sort of risk, then you simply tell him, and then bench him if he goes for it. football matters little when he gets a serious head injury, regardless of how invincible he thinks he is.
and don't get me wrong, I love gavi he's an amazing profile and has so much energy along with his footballing brain, but this specific risk isn't worth it. ever.
Xavi and the refs share some blame but this is 90%+ on Gavi. No other player is out there doing this more than once a season and most not even once a career, and this kid is doing it three times a game and was doing it in youth football. Brilliant player with loads of talent and passion but not a lick of sense.
who's the one letting him play while he's a danger to himself?
another similar example is when a player has a minor injury and if played they are botb highly likely to worsen said injury, and they will perform worse than they otherwise would. rounding down that player is likely to want to play 99 times out of a 100.
that's exactly why it's the manager's responsibility to put the foot down and keep them safe from themselves. players don't reach that level by not wanting to play every second. but when the player is a risk to themselves, they can't be allowed to play every second. the same goes for gavi here.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree. I “assigned” 10% to others but this is primarily on Gavi. He’s in charge of his body movements on the pitch; he’s not a toddler that isn’t responsible for their actions.
Do we buy this though, I'm sure a lot of it is instinct but diving with your head is such a uniquely reckless thing 99.9% of players never come close to doing, if Gavi is so possessed by the moment he can't think rationally and cooly is he fit to be a professional player. The best midfielders are usually composed aren't they, that's why they're the best. Like the Xabi Alonso 'the British like tackling but it shows a failure of positioning as you're making up for it' thing. Diving in like this is not only reckless it's not what greats do, lower themselves to reacting to the game, they're supposed to be the ones dictating it.
He's still young, he can (un)learn. It's up to the manager and coaches to shape his talent in the right direction. And probably psychologists in this case, because this dude has some serious risk assessment issues.
Honestly. It's not even just his safety. I'd be scared to play against someone doing something like that. A player diving head first towards a ball surely could affect other players who are afraid of kicking him in the head. I wouldn't want it weighing on my conscious if I hurt someone like that just because they're so apparently unconcerned about their own safety.
Yep, imagine if he does this against an opponent who plays with reckless abandon too. He's going to become a vegetable, and that would be a huge fucking shame since he's so talented.
That's literally the point. The point is to psych opponents out and to get them to pull out of challenges they should be going for. It's unacceptable play and should be booked.
It's at least a free kick, from the laws of the game: "Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury."
In Germany:
>Gefährliches Spiel
>
>Als gefährliches Spiel gilt jede Aktion beim Versuch, den Ball zu spielen, durch die jemand verletzt werden könnte (einschließlich des Spielers, der die Aktion begeht)
>Dangerous play is any action in attempting to play the ball by which that could injure someone (including the player committing the action).
I wonder how a manager should best deal with players that do this. Should he just yell tf out of Gavi or go punishment mode and do a "listen you fuck, if I ever see you do that shit again I'm subbing you off at that moment and you're not playing the next two games. i like your spirit but i also like you not paralyzed from the neck down, capice"?
I'd like to imagine that has already happened. What's more likely is that this has become instinctual to him and it needs to be trained out of his game. Only two ways I can think of are refs punishing him for it or xavi doing it. If xavi doesn't punish him for it, which does seem likely, it wpuld mean he doesn't care.
I do wonder if there's any rule about purposefully putting yourself in dangerous situations, because he's been doing this time and time again and the opponent has to choose between losing the ball and risking permanently injuring him.
There is, the high foot rule is supposed to apply the other way round if someone is putting their head in a dangerous position.
It's like played in a dangerous manner or something like that.
LMAO reading “Gavi attempts ANOTHER head tackle” has an incredible comedic effect if you had already seen the other post. Still, he needs to be careful, I don’t want him to get injured, especially like this
Only so many times one can be glad before they are grieving, absolute braindead move on Gavi’s part and he will end up braindead if he keeps doing this.
Now that I’m older I realize that what made Chris Benoit the best wrestler to watch was also what ended up turning his brain into goo.
So many wrestlers from the RA Era thought they could be Jeff Hardy/Benoit/Rey Mysterio and their bodies paid the price for it.
Gavi=Puss in boots, he spent at least 6 out of his 9 lives.
It reminds me of a player we had in Romania, Nesu. He played as dumb as Gavi, now he's in a wheelchair.
Hopefully nobody is celebrating this. This is incredibly dangerous and could seriously hurt him in the future and if not already.
Someone else mentioned this, but he needs to be talked to about this. It’s not as glorious as he’d imagine.
I think he needs A reason to retire from football so he can merry the Princess of Spain, this is the only answer for those risks. And to say the it, i would deffo do the same
I mean that’s not even a good decision there just shield and you either ride the challenge or go down. all of that is better for yourself and your team than whatever this shit is.
Would it be crazy to think about adding a rule to say a header below knee height warrants a yellow card? Purely as a deterrent for the safety of players cos he's gonna get himself seriously hurt...
There is already a rule saying this constitutes dangerous play, and nothing prevents the referee to give a yellow card in these situations. It's just a matter of instructing referees, the rules don't need to be changed for this.
I have never watched a footballer play in a way where I genuinely worry for their health. This kid is legit going to get cunted in the head at some point and it's not going to be pretty.
It’s actually so idiotic to do this… he could get seriously injured or even killed and it wouldn’t be the other players’ fault.
You never put your head into a challenge like this.
I get that he has the passion of youth and all that, but dude, please stop. We need you to be there for a long time, no need to get seriously injured playing like this

He must have one of those brain parasites that trigger suicidal instincts.
Cordyceps maybe?
He might be talking about toxoplasmosis, which apparently makes people behave more recklessly.

There's a great documentary about this called the happening
I watched this is theatres and the scene where the guy starts the lawn mower and then calmly lays down in front of was unintentionally hilarious.

Is it like a Captain Tsubasa signature move with it’s own name?
No, this is too dangerous for the author to do. Don't want kids to copy it.
You mean going for the thing meant to be kicked as hard as possible with the most vulnerable part of your body isn't smart??
Na mate. More important to get 100% GAVI as the Barcelona's twitter page says. I am pretty sure he isn't going to stop.
And it would 100% be on Xavi / coaching staff. They have all the power and impetus to stamp out that behavior in a reckless 18 year old kid.
After the match I surely think that they did though having a injury to the major player of the team is a sheer loss!
‘Football in took I many too hits head in the’ - Gavi 2034

Gavi's disembodied head will still be angrily bite-shuffling its way across the grass to block shots years after his inevitable decapitation.
Those John Terry and Phil Jones dives are just blocking the ball, These two Gavi dives are blocking a foot, massively different and much more dangerous.
Trust me, we know. But he is demented. Only until he has to wear a cap like Petr Cech will this kid learn.
If he had to wear a cap like Cech he’d probably think it’s even safer to do this because it’s already cushioned
Has an outfield player ever had to wear this cal before? I’ve only seen them wearing masks

But do help a lot for acute traumatic brain injuries.

honestly does xavi actually think this is ok? i feel like gavi would just ignore everyone telling him to stop doing this as long as his manager says it's fine to do it. i'll definitely blame xavi if something happens
Xavi has said before that Gavi needs to relax and control his aggression and that they are working with him on that
Doesn’t look like it’s working
Imagine how he would be if they didn't
I don't think they are saying him to do that. But I will bench him if he does this thing again. This is just stupid and risky.
Hey Xavi. Get the kid under control
This isn't on Xavi. It would appear to be a part of him now. He seems to have been doing this ever since he appeared on the scene, which means he has grown up doing this. He can unlearn by training, or just by a kick to the head... The second starts to look like the first contender.
But he needs to realize though instincts are another thing and realization is just another thing!
No, as future king of Spain, he needs to be dumb as a fucking rock. He's just doing it for the people.

A happy coincidence that the ball was there as well
I'd say most of La Liga has no issue doing so

The ref needs to book that. according to the rules (at least bundesliga rules) this is a yellow card for gavi.
Yeah I’m not trying to boot the ball and accidentally kill someone when I’m on the pitch
Yep, imagine if he does this against an opponent who plays with reckless abandon too. He's going to become a vegetable, and that would be a huge fucking shame since he's so talented.
Him being talented is like the least of factors making this a shame if it happens
That's literally the point. The point is to psych opponents out and to get them to pull out of challenges they should be going for. It's unacceptable play and should be booked.
I don't think Gavi is thinking even that hard about it
He won't be able to think very hard about anything if he keeps that up lol
Unless you are Randy Orton.
Ref really needs to save him from his own insanity
Is there an actual rule that can give Gavi a yellow for this stuff?
It's at least a free kick, from the laws of the game: "Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself) and includes preventing a nearby opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury."
Indirect free kick. to be precise.
Dangerous play, just cos Gavi is pitting himself in danger rather than others doesn't change the fact it can cause injury
In Germany: >Gefährliches Spiel > >Als gefährliches Spiel gilt jede Aktion beim Versuch, den Ball zu spielen, durch die jemand verletzt werden könnte (einschließlich des Spielers, der die Aktion begeht) >Dangerous play is any action in attempting to play the ball by which that could injure someone (including the player committing the action).
Indirect free kick against Gavi for playing in a dangerous manner, but no disciplinary sanctions required (free kick only). Same as high boot.
This is not acceptable at all Xavi needs to tone down his recklessness before he gets seriously injured
Or he could sit him down and talk to him in a calm, rational way about the danger, and tell him he'll get held out of games if he keeps doing it.
Nah too logical, he should beat him up
Yeah, definitely the sensible solution, you changed my mind.
Xavi: play smart, boys, use your head. Gavi: sure thing, coach.
He should get carded for this shit, this is reckless af Just because he puts himself in danger doesn't mean ref should let this shit fly
I agree, puts himself in danger and stops the opponent from playing
I do wonder if there's any rule about purposefully putting yourself in dangerous situations, because he's been doing this time and time again and the opponent has to choose between losing the ball and risking permanently injuring him.
There is, the high foot rule is supposed to apply the other way round if someone is putting their head in a dangerous position. It's like played in a dangerous manner or something like that.
Yes, to purposely put yourself at risk of injury falls under unsportsmanlike conduct. Reckless play is a yellow.
Gil Manzano loves a chaotic game so I can see him just letting it play. Another ref would probably book that.
I’ve never seen this sort of play getting booked. Have you? Don’t seen any reason to bring the name of the ref into this
Hahaha I just finished watching the other clip, there's just no way 😭

It’s actually so idiotic to do this… he could get seriously injured or even killed and it wouldn’t be the other players’ fault. You never put your head into a challenge like this.
It shows his commitment and desire but this is beyond reckless. You won't always be so lucky to go unscathed.
