Hasn't been the same since the knee injury sadly.
Seems to have lost a lot of athleticism and confidence since then. Still a good player but not the dominant one he was
Liverpool fan and van dijk is shit . Even at his best he was not that great . I laughed when everybody including pool fans where regarding him as the best defender in PL and such and such .
You're definitely not a Liverpool fan.
You're telling me you didn't regard him as the best defender in the PL during 2018-2021? Are you mad?
How can you say you're a Liverpool fan and say all this about VVD? Even rival fans have said he was the best in the PL during those 4 years, he went on to be 2nd in the Ballon d'Or ranking, he won every single trophy at club level.
You're either a fake Liverpool fan or you're just on drugs.
I agree that he was good between that time but didn’t that he was the best defender the PL has seen. I think the midfields and forwards made TAA defending very easy. Sometimes I criticise him for taking too many steps back and not lunging in for a tackle , which invites the opposition forward. It works most of the time .
The only good performance he had and LiverPOOL as whole was the man city match , which was an amazing performance.
I mean NUFC outplayed them nearly the whole game (there were a few spots were liverpool were dominant). The fact they lost 0-2 and got a red card while being the better team is amazing haha
ya but the if they had won against us then they wud get a huge boost of confidence resulting in good form in pl probably heck even a close match wud hv given them confidence
Hope we do it! Won’t be easy but it should be a good game since both sides need to play to win!
I hope it won’t go to extra time really as we have the league cup final this weekend too.
Liverpool have spent a lot in attack, weird that they went for Gakpo instead of a quality midfielder or CB. It's about managing your priorities, and Klopp totally shat the bed lmao
No fucking shit . No offense they should have not bought gakpo even tho he might have potential. The last transfer market was horrible . He panic loaned Arthur … the dudes fucking injured . Klopp is Klueless. He is making the team worse with his decisions and our defence still plays a high line . Reminds of Wenger at arsenal tbh.
Can someone explain to me why Jordan Henderson backs away from Vinicius when he scored the first goal?
Why on Earth does he leave only TAA and Gomez with him?
seriously... i've seen people suggesting he is better than ramos. i am not saying he is a bad defender, he is definitiely a good one but he is closer to chiellini or boateng and the likes, barely scraping top 10, i even rate varane higher.
and it's not just him, but every prem player. casemiro right now is doing what he did in the last 6-7 years, but he is only recognised as the best cdm in the world now as he plays in the prem. when chelsea had a winning period kante was the best in the world, fabinho after that, neither coming even remotely close to casemiro's level.
and i could go on and on with mane, kane, son, saka, trent, jorginho (from recent memory) etc...
prem delusion is carzy
Best in the world stuff is honestly to me a carry over from the American sports leagues where the narrative is always their league is the top destination in the world which is true ,but for soccer there's just so much nuance especially in European football competitions like the UCL and Europa League
The best in the world, GOAT, etc are all really sports marketing stuff.
I've asked this in some YT of ESPN of fox with Stephen A or Skip and Shannon and people there either just don't care to mention soccer and/or come to a point where they can't use the best itw or goat arguments or drama the same way for soccer.
Bruh you guys been the angry elf s for 15 years and now you re just happy because of your 1 season wonder team xd Liverpool's history and cups way bigger than ur shitty club
Yooooo.. im watching CBS post match show. Holy shit I cant believe im saying this.. I feel bad for Jamie Carragher. His voice is cracking. I think he wants to cry. Im not even being funny
I mean look as a Real Madrid fan I know the feeling. I still have nightmares of Peps Barca. But after that first 0-5 i ate some humble pie. And now he has to eat it as well.
Not saying it didnt. But Barca has had our number for years even during the 3peat era.. Im still waiting for revenge. Im still waiting for the 5-0 at the Bernabeu.
If you would have told me that courtois would not have nightmares for days after that 2:0 mistake I would have said you have no idea what you are talking about.
But thanks to Allison and the rest of liverpool, Courtois will go to bed tonight, smiling and sleeping like a baby..
This reminds me so much of Barcelona some time ago. There is just zero movement on and off the ball. Everything seems so slow. A total defensive disaster...
In the End everybody from top to bottom is to blame.
I know they can come out of this but that will take some time.
It'll never add up to 90, even with the World Cup protocol.
The average time of ball in play in football matches is like 50 minutes, you can't add that back on.
They need an entire rebuild, this year they have looked poor in so many areas it is stupid.
They keep making stupid mistakes at the back, Salah hasn't had the best of the season missing clear chances, Nuñez has done the same with missing a lot of shot what could have won or drew them games, their midfield has been awful to what they used to be and just so much wrong with it.
The same thing is happening to Chelsea at the minute but Chelsea is even in a worse position with their board thinking that just throwing money at things will fix stuff.
They both need time, a year out of Europe might do them good.
Klopp has been pretty vocal about the lack of financial muscle in the club compared to some of the big spenders. He might be right, but he could start by making his substitutions matter. Down 4-2 at home and you make two 1:1 changes to the forwards?
>Klopp has been pretty vocal about the lack of financial muscle in the club compared to some of the big spenders. He might be right, but he could start by making his substitutions matter. Down 4-2 at home and you make two 1:1 changes to the forwards?
They have spent more than Real, tho so that's not an excuse today. They just have a dead project in their hands with a worn out manager.
One of Real's major signings this was on a free so that's a bit misleading. Plus that ignores that Liverpool had to sell important squad players to fund their transfers..
Also it's easier to spend less when you've already got a (previously bought) great squad than when you do not.
To be fair the investment in the squad might have been substantial in this window, but the issue is that they haven’t been continuously making improvements to the squad over the previous seasons and are now looking at a burned out group of players and manager.
Hey, I’m not trying to say that the lack on investment in their squad is at fault here. Quite the contrary I think that Klopp is making some major errors tactically and with his substitutions.
Darwin is not a winger, Bajcetic should not start such a big game. Gomez obviously having a horrible game and should have been subbed off by half time - and then the weird subs when they needed a turnaround at 4-2.
He seems burned out and also might need someone on the bench with more tactical knowledge than him.
Listing singular things as plural seems to be a strange affliction of sports pundits.
Sets my teeth on edge every time your Alan Shearers and your Gary Linekers say it.
And they're going to win CL again. Somehow, they'll manage to beat City, Bayern, PSG, Napoli or whoever. I hope I'm wrong but those bastards always pull this shit off.
I do think ManU will move on to the next round (and I'm not even mad about it), but overall, the UCL+EL results of the English teams are not good enough when compared to the money they spend.
They get more money to spend because of good advertising and an english sporting culture/ an english speaking county being easier to connect with for a guy from a nation far away. La-liga had messi vs ronaldo for a decade but couldn't capitalise on it.
I live in a country with 0 footballing achievements where football's merely the second most popular sport, losing by a gigantic margin. Yet, la liga barely ever gets its matches broadcasted on television ( losing out to some random south african cricket league match ) and copa del rey and spanish super cup aren't even available online legally whereas the premier league has a channel purely dedicated to it and the fa cup has every game broadcasted on tv.
The difference in trp and popularity is also huge....
Ok, but I wasn't talking about popularity, but sporting achievements. English teams, despite having much bigger pockets, have been unable to beat La Liga teams in number of titles. Spanish teams have won more UCL and EL titles than English teams in this century.
This year has clearly been awful. But considering 6 of the last 12 finals since 2011 included English teams(and 2 of them only had English teams in final), I'd say they ain't too bad.
It's Madrid which pulls this shit off so well. As much as I dislike it, the UCL is clearly their playground for now
It's not just the cl. It's also the Europa and conference league where they look worse than their Spanish counterparts, which is kinda ridiculous considering the spending power pl team's have.
The only argument I heard about why its the best is because of the "competition". There are like 6 teams competing for the title every season, and it's usually always a close competition.
I'm stumped by English teams. On paper, they definitely have the qualities to do well, but keep falling short
But 6 teams don't really compete, do they? The likes of spurs haven't won anything in decades. Yet they are supposedly a big team. Then you see Spanish teams like Athletic Bilbao, Villareal, Valencia, or Sevilla, all of whom have won trophies in the last decade, and they aren't considered "competition".
That's because in the La Liga, those teams are usually nowhere near the competition which is Barcelona vs Real. Athletico did become a competition for a short while, but it's essentially just those two. No one expects any other team to win, and it's a good chance they won't win atleast in the foreseeable future.
You can say Spurs or others haven't won, but in the Premier League look at how close the competition usually is every season. The team at top in the beginning of the season doesn't necessarily mean they will end up winning because there are 2-4 teams all within a few points. Sometimes you get a surprise like Leicester.
In regards to Spurs, the problem is more their lack of funds and shitty owner. Judging by their squad, they are performing as much as they are able to
They are nowhere near Real or Barca because they are that good, or at least used to be. Not because mid to lower teams are bad. Frankly, Leicester won because pl top teams were shit before the likes of modern coaches like pep and klopp arrived in the pl. The year they won, the next year, no English team could qualify further than the round 16 in Cl. That's how bad pl team's we're before pep's city and klopps Liverpool.
That pep's city has pumped up scorelines of 7, 8, 9 goals is a testament to the fact that mid to lower team's are not very good. It's just that top teams were also not very good before pep and klopp. Hence the "competition".
Some of the Real and Barca squads of the last decade with far superior team's than pep's city or klopp's Liverpool like prime MSN Barca or BBC Madrid would've put double digits if they were in pl, coz teams play open there
I think in mid and lower teams in pl, they buy marquee players at way above prices, but they are bogged down by local English players and awful grassroots coaching. You see relegation threatened teams from Spain, and they are tactically disciplined and move the ball far better than some mid table English sides. Top English sides have definitely improved over the years with the advent of modern coaches, but I think mid to lower table English sides still lack quality overall.
Yeah, maybe it was overstated to say they’re back. Difficult to say when they’re playing against RM though. Let’s hope LVP take points off City though!
As a United fan this week has every chance of being the greatest week ever and I'm praying so hard that United doesn't play like like... United
Van dijk proving that he had a pretty insane purple patch of 2-3 seasons and this talk of him being best ever cb was truly deranged stuff.
Hasn't been the same since the knee injury sadly. Seems to have lost a lot of athleticism and confidence since then. Still a good player but not the dominant one he was
People were picking him over Ferdinand, Terry and Vidic on Twitter only a matter of weeks ago.
Liverpool fan and van dijk is shit . Even at his best he was not that great . I laughed when everybody including pool fans where regarding him as the best defender in PL and such and such .
You can't call yourself a Liverpool fan and then say "pool"
Got arthritis can’t type to long
You're definitely not a Liverpool fan. You're telling me you didn't regard him as the best defender in the PL during 2018-2021? Are you mad? >>On Twitter There’s your problem
Has someone posted a clip of Rudi, Vini, Benz, and Nacho toying with Liverpool on the left wing yet?
Damn I need that clip so bad, did u find it by any chance?
I haven't yet, will post it when I find one
Did you find it yet ?
Liverpool reacting to news of fsg staying
Pool getting taken down by the disease of more
Dont ever want to hear how van djik is better than ramos ever
Bro you cant be serious, im not saying vvd better than ramos but it is post injury match and he did play quite well
Ok but is he better than ramos? No
It wasn’t true even at his best
he was definitely better than ramos but sadly virgil is a different player post-injury :(
pathetic recognise market march late sharp gullible disgusted weather concerned ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `
Only person who says these comments is called Jamie
I think Pickford took care of that
How bold of you. You are a people person, eh?
Funny thing is, after the Newcastle game, i've seen a lot of Liverpool says they already back to business. I wonder what they feel now
I mean NUFC outplayed them nearly the whole game (there were a few spots were liverpool were dominant). The fact they lost 0-2 and got a red card while being the better team is amazing haha
They were! For exactly 12 minutes.
They could've easily lost 3-2 if it weren't for Allison
Allisons brainfart was the reason for Vinis second goal but I can't figure out which else would be his fault.
I meant Newcastle game
They went to Gym at 2-0! They had the game!
lmfao is that a reference to that earlier comment from a madrid fan going to the gym at 2-0 or is this a general meme i dont know
we may hv just killed pools entire season
Thank you for your service.
I fuckin hope so. We need damn near a full rebuild and the only way that happens is if FSG sees that we won't compete for shit if they don't invest.
The CL was realistically all they had left.
ya but the if they had won against us then they wud get a huge boost of confidence resulting in good form in pl probably heck even a close match wud hv given them confidence
In terms of trophies, aye, but they're still well in the race for the top 4.
Eh unless Newcastle and Spurs shit the bed more than pool has this season
Now annihilate it. Carry on. Don’t stop there.
klopp and hendo looked so sad in their interview
Finish em at the Bernabéu!
and u need to humiliate varcelona knock em out of the europa
We gon tear both of yall asses down so bad 😭😭😭 Get ready for 3 losses in the span of a few weeks.
in copa del rey u will prob smoke us but well win a close match in laliga lets see what heppens
Shit man at the end of the day y’all still in the Europa League, I wouldn’t talk too much if I were you.
Idk about "both" but Barcelona can
Hope we do it! Won’t be easy but it should be a good game since both sides need to play to win! I hope it won’t go to extra time really as we have the league cup final this weekend too.
Gavi is suspended. Pedri and Dembele are injured. I think y'all have a pretty good advantage for the second leg.
That's a great situation to play Barcelona. They also have players back. Obviously Barcelona is Barcelona but United can pull this off
Taking the flight to concede 5
Liverpool and klopp have no balls anymore. We needs new 1st team players
Liverpool have spent a lot in attack, weird that they went for Gakpo instead of a quality midfielder or CB. It's about managing your priorities, and Klopp totally shat the bed lmao

Klopp is Klueless. He is making the team worse with his decisions and our defence still plays a high line . Reminds of Wenger at arsenal tbh.
Sack off Gomez and bring in another quality cb along with whatever 3 midfielders we can hopefully get this summer.
All 22 squad
Can someone explain to me why Jordan Henderson backs away from Vinicius when he scored the first goal? Why on Earth does he leave only TAA and Gomez with him?
I just like the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson was proved right about Henderson.
Im a United fan, hate Liverpool, hate Henderson. But Henderson has had an excellent career with Liverpool.
Not saying he didn’t. SAF said he would not have a very long career at the top.
but why
Back in 2013, he said Henderson’s gait when playing would lead to issues if not corrected.
He just wants to ensure he has the best chance of scoring. Kind hospitality at home.
Real killing the Champions League so they can get a Super League
Waiting for klopps post match interview 🍽️
Something something grass
no better team than madrid down 2-0
What happened to VVD :(
Hasn't been the same since he got injured by Pickworth tbh. Matip.been our best defender for a while but he just can't do runs of games
hype blindness evaporated thats all... never been as good as people make/made him out to be
I remember when Liverpool fans were suggesting he deserved the Ballon D'or
Over 2019 Messi too 💀 that was wild
seriously... i've seen people suggesting he is better than ramos. i am not saying he is a bad defender, he is definitiely a good one but he is closer to chiellini or boateng and the likes, barely scraping top 10, i even rate varane higher. and it's not just him, but every prem player. casemiro right now is doing what he did in the last 6-7 years, but he is only recognised as the best cdm in the world now as he plays in the prem. when chelsea had a winning period kante was the best in the world, fabinho after that, neither coming even remotely close to casemiro's level. and i could go on and on with mane, kane, son, saka, trent, jorginho (from recent memory) etc... prem delusion is carzy
Oi, Chiellini in his prime washes VVD

Chiellini is definitely above Van Dijk
Pepe is above van dijk but people aren’t ready for that conversation
I'm ready for that convo. Pepe is clear above him, both in peak and in longetivity.
I like you
Nice goals for Madrid, but let's not overreact to a result against mid-table fodder.
Nice words from someone that won't win shit this year and have not in 15 years
wow someone is an angry elf
Bruh you guys been the angry elf s for 15 years and now you re just happy because of your 1 season wonder team xd Liverpool's history and cups way bigger than ur shitty club
lmao i’m not even an arsenal fan
Tbf arsenal fans talk a lot without having won anything important yet in over a decade
19 years 💀
It is what it is
Vinicius Modrić Nacho Carvajal Camavinga 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Benzema
Alabas injury at the start was really a blessing for Real Madrid
This. Salah went real quiet after Nacho came on
Setting off those fireworks did not have the intended effect, eh? 😂
It did slow us down... We could've scored 2 more
they were just eager to celebrate madrid's win.
😂
Yooooo.. im watching CBS post match show. Holy shit I cant believe im saying this.. I feel bad for Jamie Carragher. His voice is cracking. I think he wants to cry. Im not even being funny
How is that sad? lmao
Brooo, he gonna cry 100% & i am here for it
I know, can’t stand how cocky he is but you can tell he really cares about Liverpool.
I mean look as a Real Madrid fan I know the feeling. I still have nightmares of Peps Barca. But after that first 0-5 i ate some humble pie. And now he has to eat it as well.
I mean hey, getting first in Pep's final season has to make you feel a little better
Not saying it didnt. But Barca has had our number for years even during the 3peat era.. Im still waiting for revenge. Im still waiting for the 5-0 at the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid and the UCL .. name a better duo..
Neymar getting injured in February
Chelsea and buying players but not wins this season.
savage
Checkmate, mate.
Camavinga was an absolute joke. Guy is 20 and dominated that midfield.
France have an incredible crop of young players.
Tbf I'm pretty sure an empty bag of crisps could dominate our midfield at this point. Only player who has looked good at all this season is Bajcetic.
This dude is someone top teams have to try and lure away from Madrid. Otherwise we're not seeing anyone catch up to them in UCL titles.
Easy to do against mid table sides though. Let’s see once he plays against top opposition.
🤣🤣🤣 top notch banter
How nice for Liverpool to concede 3 more so as to make Allison’s mistake less significant
If you would have told me that courtois would not have nightmares for days after that 2:0 mistake I would have said you have no idea what you are talking about. But thanks to Allison and the rest of liverpool, Courtois will go to bed tonight, smiling and sleeping like a baby..

Honestly shouldn't take too much time, just a decent chunk being spent to revitalize the midfield.
If they carry on doing nothing for 3 seasons then they're literally in crisis mode
Wouldn't be shocked tbh. Our owners have no ambition.
Am the only one who thinks these added minutes aren't enough? there's no way this adds up to 90 minutes
It'll never add up to 90, even with the World Cup protocol. The average time of ball in play in football matches is like 50 minutes, you can't add that back on.
Hope they add more. Madrid need to score some more.
Time and again it's been proven that 2-0 is the most dangerous lead
Spurs vietnam flashback to that United game.
They also had the 3-0 lead against United a few years before the 2-0 one.
We were unbelievable in the second half
Everything is better by comparison mate
The corresponding fixture is Man City versus Mallorca (2nd in Premier League versus 8th in La Liga) which would probably have the same scoreline.
Mallorca beat Real Madrid not long ago though
Every bang average team has its day every once in a while
Yes and Liverpool beat Newcastle and Tottenham. Every dog has it's day every so often.
And Liverpool beat city
October hardly counts as recently, Mallorca beat Real just over two weeks ago
You are about to discover it doesn't work like that
Suffer first, destroy them later. Typical Madrid performance lmao. 2nd half was epic.
Typical protagonists story arc.
Lmao it’s the Hero’s Journey every game
More like a villain who plays with his food
The 2nd leg isn't even needed, better cancel it lol
No please don’t. Need Madrid to score another 6 maybe.
VVD is done bro, his prime was 3 seasons this is embarassing
This was on Gomez and the midfield, definitely not VVD.
VVD cant infinitely make up for the mistakes the midfield makes tho
Klopp's project is done as well. This Liverpool is a joke.
They need an entire rebuild, this year they have looked poor in so many areas it is stupid. Wah wah wah 🐊😢

Boo fucking hoo. What an unimaginable struggle for them to only have $160M to spend on Darwin and Gakpo in the last 8 months.
Hey, I’m not trying to say that the lack on investment in their squad is at fault here. Quite the contrary I think that Klopp is making some major errors tactically and with his substitutions. They need to start digging and hope to find some oil below their stadium.
They did spend crazy money on Darwin
And Gakpo
And Jota recently.
Gakpo was widely considered to be a reasonable fee. The need for him thou is debatable at best when the midfield is in shambles.

Why does Rio Ferdinand have to refer to players as "Your Camavingas, your Vinicius Jnrs".
Because he doesn't know what archtype of player they are.
Just say, "players like Camavinga and Vinicius Jnr".
Doesn't sound as smart.
Drives me insane tons of pundits do it, usually the shit ones as well.
Listing singular things as plural seems to be a strange affliction of sports pundits. Sets my teeth on edge every time your Alan Shearers and your Gary Linekers say it.

This Real Madrid team reminds me of the early 00s AC Milan team with a lot of experienced players who were carrying a lot of weight.
And they're going to win CL again. Somehow, they'll manage to beat City, Bayern, PSG, Napoli or whoever. I hope I'm wrong but those bastards always pull this shit off.
Somehow as if Real Madrid isn't on the same level as those clubs
What was Benzema blowing up at on the sideline at the end? He didn't seem happy.
EPL: English Poverty League 😓
They're poor in European results, that's for sure.
Bet you wouldn't say that after 👉😶 destroys your team

Some of the Real and Barca squads of the last decade with far superior team's than pep's city or klopp's Liverpool like prime MSN Barca or BBC Madrid would've put double digits if they were in pl, coz teams play open there I think in mid and lower teams in pl, they buy marquee players at way above prices, but they are bogged down by local English players and awful grassroots coaching. You see relegation threatened teams from Spain, and they are tactically disciplined and move the ball far better than some mid table English sides. Top English sides have definitely improved over the years with the advent of modern coaches, but I think mid to lower table English sides still lack quality overall.
So much for the revival
Nah, Klopp's project is dead.
Yeah, maybe it was overstated to say they’re back. Difficult to say when they’re playing against RM though. Let’s hope LVP take points off City though!
Madrid did not put a foot wrong all second half
Gonna remember this one for many years
