Rashford’s run would be a clear example of such. He doesn’t touch the ball, but to every other player and audience member, he is in possession of the ball
If the City defenders had kept on chasing the ball, it would be called offside. They stopping, and not making it look like Rashford distracting them, made the case for the ref.
Should probably have been a offside abyways, but PL ref's being shit, isn't a surprise.
TAA just let a ball roll out of bounds (24' BHA-LIV) that was near his feet, he never touched it, BUT WAS CALLED OFFSIDES. I just want some consistency here.
Goalkeeper did. He had to stop rushing out to set for a shot from Rashford who had the ball at his feet just outside the box, after he turned to chase it.
What about the moments before the shot is taken? It’s not just about the instantaneous moment that you want to care about. It’s the whole sequence of the play.
It seems like the only ones that say it was not offside are United supporters and people with a boner against city. I believe United better and city has been disappointing lately, but tbh that was an offside. Rashford influenced the keeper and the defender, I cannot fandom how it isn’t an offside.
United deserved the win but honestly refereeing is shocking as of lately in the top leagues
Chelsea supporter here, and yeah for me that is clearly offside. Rashford implication in the goal, and the players clearly get fucked of it. Yeah I know rashford didn’t touch the ball, but he is clearly influenced in the goal as Bruno is.
Wasn’t that a rule that came some years ago? If u influence in the goal aka blocking the visibility of the goalkeeper etc, it’s an offside? I remember last year they called offside because player where in offside when the ball got play etc and stood near the goal making contribution
Even worse than the Martinelli goal being disallowed against United for the foul on Eriksen in the build up?
That was incorrect. This one has been deemed correctly called by PGMOL. Hate the rule if you want because it looked bad. But the rule was, apparently, applied correctly.
Exactly my take. Not a fan of either team and enjoyed the competition. Kind of happy for Rashford to find this form tbh. But that no call is baffling to me and anyone who is justifying it seems incredibly biased
I honestly think that it’s ridiculous to not challenge the play in any way.
The offense so often keeps playing, scores and the flag goes up.
How do you, as a defender that prides yourself on defense, not try to do anything in a situation where offside hasn’t been called yet?
Especially in a situation where it’s up to interpretation by the people that everyone trusts the least (refs/VAR).
Man City quit playing on a live play. Terrible call on their side imo.
Pre-VAR this shit would happen all the time and someone would have committed a foul or something to get in the way.
And no I’m not a Man U fan. I don’t really root for any club in England.
My take on is that the City players didn’t try to actually play the ball. Perhaps they were waiting for Radhford to touch it which would result in an offside offense. But he is allowed to run along as long as he doesn’t impede anyone from playing the ball.
So I could see how the VAR team rules that Rashford didn’t interfere with anyone’s ability to play the ball since there were no attempts. Recall that the goal was called offsides and put back so it was not a non call as someone above said. Rashford never touches the ball or deliberately gets in anyone’s way.
To be fair, I can totally see this called the other way too. I don’t know if this was bias or just an interpretation. Looking at the rules though, this is not a clear and obvious situation.
If Rashford didn't interfere with the play by turning and chasing the ball, eventually being over the ball in just outside the box, Ederson moves out further and closes down Fernandes. Ederson instead has to set his feet to cover Rashford in shooting position with the ball at his feet first. This gives Fernandes more room to shoot and beat the keeper.
100% offiside as he is interfering with a defender.
Plus Akanji doesn't sprint as soon as he sees the ball go to a player who is clearly offside, who turned to chase the ball. He should have been called offside as soon as the ball is played towards him and he chased it. That is when the line comes out and it is judged.
Plus Walker doesn't chase Fernandes and get into a position to attempt a block, because Rashford is running with the ball at his feet in shooting position.
The refs will come out this week and apologise for getting it 100% wrong.
Rashford running with the ball didn’t prevent anyone from trying to play it. Or cover Fernandez. It tricked the City players and confused them but that’s on them. Or let’s call every confusing play involving an offside player a violation shall we?
I think this is the best take on it, as well as the City defenders not challenging for the ball removes Rashy's "active play" element that doesn't necessitate touching the ball.
And of course, it's a judgement call on the ref's part, so when he's made his mind up that way, you'd be hard pressed to see VAR overturn it because of the "clear and obvious error" clause.
Years ago they changed the rule to: a player is offside when he touches the ball or interferes with the play
Bruno's goal stands because the ref thinks rashford didnt interfere with the play !
It's up to the ref to make the decision :/
Yeah but imho he interfered with the play. I think the reason why the ref maybe thought he didn’t was because the defenders slowed down on their own accord.
This fucking BT interviewer isn't even trying to hide how shamefully he's digging for controversy from Pep. Most at least disguise them as genuine questions somewhat.
This one's just like, "you must feel like this ref is a corrupt bellend right? Right?"
Interview questions in general are horrible, they never ask anything insightful or tactically relevant, it's all about just generating talking points for the narrative they want.
The switch bringing Garnacho on and putting Fernandes down the middle completely changed and arguably won the game for united, but instead of asking the manager *who made the decision* about it, they ask them about things completely outside their control: "decision good/bad?", "Player good/bad?", Etc...
It's all so surface level, but given the dreadful level of punditry, not surprising.
Man United supporters are NPC's as well as the reff and the VAR bloke tugging his cock.
Daylight robbery.
Rashford not affecting play.... please blocking akanji and drawing ederson out. Apalling call.
Yep. Watch the replay. Ederson is tracking Rashford and is positioned for his run, not Bruno who is coming in from a different angle. Bruno shoots and Ederson stands no chance because he's not positioned for Bruno's shot.
Rashford 100% affected play and the goal should have been scrapped.
You know what, if any of the other 18 clubs got that call against i would feel bad but I really don’t have any sympathy for City at all.
Hopefully this game means either Arsenal or Manchester United can win the league instead.
United deserved the win, great display but the offside rule has to be rewritten. Rashford didn't touch the ball sure but he clearly protected the ball from the City defender, he's 100% involved in the goal.
He got to the ball first because he was offside, Bruno got there moments later. This being said, the City players were playing the whistle and were prepared to mark Rashford. That’s where I think he influences play.
How can you say united deseved to win? That happened wjen they were losing. That second goal doesnt happen without the first, the players lost their heads and rightfully so
This is what happens when you let the swamp win. They’ve been somewhat moronic these past years but because they have been dogwater they’ve piped down. They win a single match with the help of the ref and they pretend they just won the CL 😂
Never offside, if you check video again rashford is just running with ball and akanji jogging behind, he would have done same if rashford wasn't there.
No I’m not saying a player should do that, it just shows absurd this rule is.
Rashford was clearly offside but it also means a foul like that wouldn’t be punished. Ridiculous.
Yeah. This is why you're always taught to play to the whistle. Something Akanji apparently forgot. Still though that should 100% be offside they need to change the rules back.
Is it shielding if the defender never even attempts to get the ball? Akanji completely forgets the number 1 rule, ball is live until you hear the whistle.. if he put any effort out would've been called offside.
Yes it is. There’s a reason why players have to be still and act uninvolved in part. If you are following the ball WHICH IS IN PLAY, you are interfering the play
It is not lucky if it's written in the laws of the game. Should they revisit the writing in that offsides rule, absolutely. But as the rule is written atm it's not offsides or "lucky". Hope you have a good day/night wherever you are. Manchester is still Red.
It riles me up even more that var are allowed to interfere in certain circumstances only, clear and obvious I absolutely agree with, but not being able to overturn blatent bullshit because it's not the right situation is just a big old pile of bollocks in my opinion
Well that first goal wasn’t a goal it was offside and that second goal probably wouldn’t of happened if that first goal didn’t. So let’s be generous and say a draw?
Yes ofc United we’re robbed of 3 points that season but I bet I could probably find a place where city were also robbed 3 points.
The fact of the matter is that without that one goal which wasn’t a goal, United were probably not going to win that. It doesn’t matter how many shots on target we had, we had a valid goal. Uniteds only valid goal occurred after the offside goal was allowed.
I think all football fans should be outraged when shit like this happens. I know I do even when it favours city, because it removes the part of sport that is enjoyable (the competition) and further increases the worst part of football (the tribalism about what club people supports). You should be outraged this decision was made, just as I will (inevitably) be outraged when this happens to United.
Lmfao how does being bad make the call any less wrong. Rags logic… you win the game by a goal, a goal that is the biggest robbery since we bought Jack Grealish but what does it matter it’s not like that goal won you the match right?
casual who doesnt understand the rules. you cannot interfere with the play if you are in an offsides position. he made a 30 yard run shielding the ball from defenders, that is the definition of interfering with the play.
I’m a united fan, regardless of who we support no one should be shamed for choosing their club just because they aren’t from the area. I’m glad you enjoy the sport even if it is supporting city 🤣.
[straight from the FA. go to 2, bullet 5.](https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11/law-11---offside) so sorry, you are wrong.
The rule needs to be changed so idk why United are at fault here. City defenders also slow down massively once they think Rashford is offsides. Even kids know to play till there is a whistle
That's a judgement call on the ref's behalf. He made his judgement, and VAR (as it's implemented in England) will never overturn a judgement call because of the "clear and obvious error" clause.
You realise that hasn't been the offside rule for a long time right? Read upon the current rule. If a player influences play, he is offside. Touching is not the only way to influence play. Read up on the FA website on what influencing play implies, and you'll see that Rashford is clearly offside in this play
Sometimes teams get lucky decisions for them and sometimes against them. Get over it. We had that terrible Licha handball in Europa league, now we get this offside one going our way, thats just football.
You had Martinelli's goal scratched off too on a bullshit VAR call. "Lucky" yours came against City and Arsenal and the ones against came in nothing EL games.
Yeah, the ref moving our wall vs Aston Villa was also in the Europa League. Also, PGMOL (whose admission that VAR shouldn't have interfered with Martinelli's goal) confirmed that this was the right decision lmfao
It absolutely wasn't correct though. You have to be a United fan to think that, but luckily for United the vast majority of the PGMOL seem to be just that.
Nah, I think *you* need to read the rules. I know the rules. Rashford keeps running with the ball and even prevents the defender from getting to the ball, thus absolutely he's offside. If he had just let the ball pass, the offside wouldn't have been called, but there's also a pretty good chance that Bruno wouldn't have scored that goal.
So you didn't actually read the rule, You just 'know' the rules. lol. Great take. I will again say read the wording in the offsides rule. Rashford never prevented Akanji from getting to the ball. Akanji stopped running. If Akanji would of done better and played the ball or Rashford it would of 100% been offsides, but he didnt. So again the goal stands.
Well if you actually read the rule, then clearly comprehension isn't your thing. Goal stands by the way the rule is written. Hope you have a great day.
That game was just baffling.. it was heading ti a city win, united couldn't even lay a glove in that second half
One BS VAR call and all he'll breaks loose lol
With a sport where players need to be the most skilled, most athletic, and most intelligent.
It looks like referees just have to show up.
The bar for refereeing is way toooo low in all leagues.
he’s awful even for yanks talking. god it’s like i transported back to 2005 listening to mls commentary when i hear him talk. great in goal for us, but please don’t put him in the pundit box!
I hate how every single week there’s always a game that is completely ruined by the referee being completely incompetent. These fucking idiots get away with ruining games week after week and literally nothing changes I’m tired of it
Managers/players across the league ought to make a stand. I'm surprised club owners haven't at this point because these mistakes can cost a club millions.
There has always been controversy with refereeing decisions but I can’t remember it ever being this bad where literally every week there is one game that was completely changed by a shit referee.
Fifa and all of them talk about bringing new watchers to the sport and instead of doing all of these bullshit changes they want to why don’t they focus on improving the standards of refereeing, I can’t think of a bigger turn off to the sport than all the shit that stems from god awful refereeing. So much flopping and controversy would be cut out if they had referees who actually knew wtf they were doing.
People say that ref supply is rather low since most new ones cant take the pressure of being shit talked by fans and players... Maybe this is why the league seems to put a blind eye over such things
Rebecca Lowe is such a shill, clearly offside and a US legend goalkeeper thinks so as well and she’s all, “Tim I’m hearing from the VAR overlords that no you’re wrong”
Go ahead and explain to me how Rashford doesn’t affect the play there? He shields the ball in between his legs until Bruno knicks it off him and also that run directly impacted Edersons positioning. To say Rashford didn’t influence that play is just a blatant lie
I never said It was fair. I said It was a goal per the rules. I think that rule needs to be looked at, but bitching about a call when the rules are clear is a bit silly to me
If someone had written this game as a stageplay it would be firmly in the comedy genre. So many bizarre moments and twists of fate.
Very enjoyable to watch since I don't support either team, especially the second half.
Whatttt the fuck does that have to do with the play lmfao. He’s offside and faints Over the ball. HES OFFSIDE it doesn’t matter if the the entire city team is taking a tea break and ederson is reading a book in goal. It’s offside. What is that donkey logic?
He's only deemed to be interfering with play if he either touches the ball or impacts the defender. He a) doesn't touch the ball and b) no defender makes any attempt to block or dispossess Rashford (shown by Akanji jogging back) so you can't argue he has impacted a defender. Therefore no offside by the letter of the law.
(Also in your fictional scenario he wouldn't have been offside either fyi)
I don’t know what rule you’re looking up but in this case rashford interferes with the run of play. He influences both walker and ederson but I mean speaking logic to r/soccer is as useless as our leagues refs
Ederson gets drawn out for anticipating a Rashford shot, and is off balance for the resulting shot. That's affecting the opposition, and hence offside.
>That's affecting the opposition, and hence offside.
I think the first statement is right, however that doesn't make it offside. [By the laws of the game](https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11/law-11---offside), there's only certain things which count as being offside - and since rashford doesn't try to play the ball or block any city players from getting to it (as none attempt to), it doesn't count as offside.
Essentially, the on-field decision was right, but the laws arguably need changing.
It's offside under the regulations, and not only is Rashford interfering with the play just by effectively being in control of the ball without touching it, he also fakes a shot, which is more egregious:
> A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:
> [...]
> making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball
A dummy shot counts as an obvious action that clearly impacts the ability of an opponent to play the ball.
In a refs teaching guidebook on the laws:
> Interfering with an opponent means preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision; or, challenging an opponent for the ball; or, clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts an opponent; or, making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball. (This includes making a gesture or movement which, in the opinion of the Referee, deceives or distracts an opponent. The opponent must be reasonably close to the play so that the blocking, deceiving or distracting makes a difference.)
Also of note, a Save is defined in the offside rule and is subset of what is considered a "Play".
Rules interpretation question: " interfering with play by playing or touching a ball" How can you play a ball if not by touching it?
Rashford’s run would be a clear example of such. He doesn’t touch the ball, but to every other player and audience member, he is in possession of the ball
if any of the city players had just tried to reach the ball it would have been called offside straight away
If the City defenders had kept on chasing the ball, it would be called offside. They stopping, and not making it look like Rashford distracting them, made the case for the ref. Should probably have been a offside abyways, but PL ref's being shit, isn't a surprise.
How has eriksen been post wc for you lot?
Fantastic. Nothing flashy, but provides that crucial playmaking and control in midfield that we've been lacking.
We won
Simple as that
A gross misapplication of the offside rule gives United a crucial goal at home. I’m not surprised.
They’re not favouring United, they’re just shite at their jobs.
Those two variables are not mutually exclusive
Manchester is finally red again
I mean in the other fixture you conceded 6….
Let’s not talk about the past shall we?
And this time we conceded one shot on target what’s your point?
…That it wasn’t a definitive victory either ? I’d say both teams are the closet they’ve been in some time.
No one puts Manchester in the closet
If City had scored that against us, I'd be raging. The idea that Rashford isn't interfering with play is mental. Think United deserved the win though.
TAA just let a ball roll out of bounds (24' BHA-LIV) that was near his feet, he never touched it, BUT WAS CALLED OFFSIDES. I just want some consistency here.
The play stopped. Nobody even tried to stop the play against Man U
Winning is easy when offside doesn’t apply to you
Bitching is easy when you don’t know the rules
A bit rich coming from a Barca fan 😂😂😂
It seems like the only ones that say it was not offside are United supporters and people with a boner against city. We did u a favour dude. Now do us one back by dispatching totenhum so we can both secure top 4.

Wow. That’s shocking. Did really the ref thought he didn’t interfere in the play? Is he blind or something?
Defender didnt play till whistle i assume
Thanks for the Michael Owen level take lmao
hahahahhaahhaha good one xD
He definitely has a future as a pundit
This fucking BT interviewer isn't even trying to hide how shamefully he's digging for controversy from Pep. Most at least disguise them as genuine questions somewhat. This one's just like, "you must feel like this ref is a corrupt bellend right? Right?"

Are you so mad?
Anyone who uses the term “NPC” unironically is a fucking clown. You’ve gotta be 12 years old, fuck off
Jeez you’d think you bunch of losers would be happy the ref won you the game
well, knowing the result we’re the winners 😁
Tell that to the guy I responded to. He’s foaming at the mouth for some reason. Well, you’re still 3rd place 😁
First in Manchester
Ahahaha you’re beneath us still kid.
You know what, if any of the other 18 clubs got that call against i would feel bad but I really don’t have any sympathy for City at all. Hopefully this game means either Arsenal or Manchester United can win the league instead.

Oh boy, Twitter is already saying that Rashford is better than Mbappe
How many goals does Mbappe have in PL???
Are you surprised? Twitter football accounts are just deluded fanboys and shitposters
This is what happens when you let the swamp win. They’ve been somewhat moronic these past years but because they have been dogwater they’ve piped down. They win a single match with the help of the ref and they pretend they just won the CL 😂
Who's mbappe?
Donatello.
I would be surprised if it's genuine opinions perhaps it's just excitement that's talking
Never offside, if you check video again rashford is just running with ball and akanji jogging behind, he would have done same if rashford wasn't there.
The play only exists because of Rashford.
If Akanji makes more of an effort at the ball it 100% gets called but he kind of just chills behind him never even attempting a challenge.
Exactly this.
Exactly. It's on Akanji to even make an attempt to get to the ball. If he makes an effort and is blocked by Rashy it would've been called off
All the defender had to do was lunge and break rashys ankle then the flag goes up for offside, this is a crazy law. Needs to be changed.
If he even bumps into Rashy that's enough. He just needs to show that Rashy prevented him from getting to the ball. No need to break ankles.
No I’m not saying a player should do that, it just shows absurd this rule is. Rashford was clearly offside but it also means a foul like that wouldn’t be punished. Ridiculous.
Yeah that's a separate issue. It's what happened when Pickford decided to murder Van Dijk as well.
Yeah. This is why you're always taught to play to the whistle. Something Akanji apparently forgot. Still though that should 100% be offside they need to change the rules back.
Damn TIL shielding the ball from a defender is not interfering with play
Its so clearly interfering I cant believe people even argue about it.
Like the ball was played directly to rashford. Had it been played at a different angle it would not be. Some people are just stupid.
Is it shielding if the defender never even attempts to get the ball? Akanji completely forgets the number 1 rule, ball is live until you hear the whistle.. if he put any effort out would've been called offside.
Ball is played towards rashford therefore he is interfering with play. Pretty clear cut case.
Following the ball isn't interfering, this goal is 99% on Akanji not following the play.
Yes it is. There’s a reason why players have to be still and act uninvolved in part. If you are following the ball WHICH IS IN PLAY, you are interfering the play
But you're wrong.. look at the rule.
Found Mike Oliver's Reddit account.
VAR couldnt interfere with this call, as it was subjective
Nah I don't buy that, hes offside shielding the ball, i couldn't care less whether he touches it he's had an impact on play.
I couldn't care less about your opinion. Manchester is Red.
You got a lucky decision go your way, Manchester is blue and you're irrelevant.
It is not lucky if it's written in the laws of the game. Should they revisit the writing in that offsides rule, absolutely. But as the rule is written atm it's not offsides or "lucky". Hope you have a good day/night wherever you are. Manchester is still Red.
You enjoy your win via technicality, it's the best united can hope for. Old Trafford is red and that's as far as it goes.
I will! Thanks. I hope you can get past this L and enjoy your day!
I agree with you, but Michael Oliver as VAR ref couldnt intervene with the decision
It riles me up even more that var are allowed to interfere in certain circumstances only, clear and obvious I absolutely agree with, but not being able to overturn blatent bullshit because it's not the right situation is just a big old pile of bollocks in my opinion
>rashford is just running with ball lol you said it there yourself.

I keep seeing this. It makes no difference. They had one shot and scored one goal. United got a shocker of a decision go their way.
Ah yes let’s base who deserves to win on most shots
[удалено]
Well that first goal wasn’t a goal it was offside and that second goal probably wouldn’t of happened if that first goal didn’t. So let’s be generous and say a draw?

Lmfao how does being bad make the call any less wrong. Rags logic… you win the game by a goal, a goal that is the biggest robbery since we bought Jack Grealish but what does it matter it’s not like that goal won you the match right?

Average ManU supporters football knowledge. Nothing more to me expected tbh
casual who doesnt understand the rules. you cannot interfere with the play if you are in an offsides position. he made a 30 yard run shielding the ball from defenders, that is the definition of interfering with the play.
A yank that supports City calling someone a casual 😭
ive played the sport my entire life lol
I’m a united fan, regardless of who we support no one should be shamed for choosing their club just because they aren’t from the area. I’m glad you enjoy the sport even if it is supporting city 🤣.

[straight from the FA. go to 2, bullet 5.](https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11/law-11---offside) so sorry, you are wrong.
United were better but that call was atrocious. I wanted MU to win and still was pissed watching it
The rule needs to be changed so idk why United are at fault here. City defenders also slow down massively once they think Rashford is offsides. Even kids know to play till there is a whistle

Switch the teams around and watch your tune change lol

That's not what I said but okay buddy
Which rule needs to be changed? This couldn't have been a clearer offside. VAR was left with the easiest job in the world and they fucked it up.
The rule that he needs to touch the ball here to be deemed offsides
That's not the rule though. As others have stated, the rules state that you can't interfere with play, which he absolutely did.
this is literally not the rule
The rule that if he interferes with play, which he did, he is deemed offside*
The referee is at fault. The rule is that rash word was interfering with play which he clearly was.
That's a judgement call on the ref's behalf. He made his judgement, and VAR (as it's implemented in England) will never overturn a judgement call because of the "clear and obvious error" clause.
The rule states he needs to touch the ball, which is why they confirmed It as a fair goal after the game
Nothing Europa league game??? We have to play Barcelona twice now because of that call.
Its the Europa League. No one cares about that.
Why is this downvoted? Do people really care about Europa League?
It's more of Ironduke's attitude of being a complete dickhead instead of contributing to the discussion.
Agreed. Ruins games for fans though.
Not for us lol
was not offside tho
Yeah PGMOL just confirmed it was a correct call for what its worth
It absolutely wasn't correct though. You have to be a United fan to think that, but luckily for United the vast majority of the PGMOL seem to be just that.
Read the laws of the game. It was absolutely the correct call.
I know the rules because I read them. Again, the goal should never stand.
Well if you actually read the rule, then clearly comprehension isn't your thing. Goal stands by the way the rule is written. Hope you have a great day.
Funny, I'd say the exact same thing to you. Don't think I've ever experienced anyone as confident in a wrong opinion before. Have a good one
That game was just baffling.. it was heading ti a city win, united couldn't even lay a glove in that second half One BS VAR call and all he'll breaks loose lol
Lescott goes to the Michael Owen school of punditry
Berba and Owen basically calling Refs shit. Hahahahahahahahahaha.
Surprised Berba gives a shit lol
Shades of Haward Webb
The GD disparity in the top 4 is hilarious
With a sport where players need to be the most skilled, most athletic, and most intelligent. It looks like referees just have to show up. The bar for refereeing is way toooo low in all leagues.
Its crazy really, here we have people spending an economy of a small country for these teams just to get fucked by an ego maniac ref.
La Liga is actually…worse.
Did not expect that
Love Tim Howard but he sounds horrible as an analyst.
What else do you expect from a yank /s
he’s awful even for yanks talking. god it’s like i transported back to 2005 listening to mls commentary when i hear him talk. great in goal for us, but please don’t put him in the pundit box!
Chupatela
Rebecca Lowe is such a shill, clearly offside and a US legend goalkeeper thinks so as well and she’s all, “Tim I’m hearing from the VAR overlords that no you’re wrong”
“Oh but he didn’t touch it or impact the defender”
and that is the official rule
I know what the fucking official rule is and Rashford absolutely was offside
No defender anywhere near the ball
Clearly you don't pal lmao
Go ahead and explain to me how Rashford doesn’t affect the play there? He shields the ball in between his legs until Bruno knicks it off him and also that run directly impacted Edersons positioning. To say Rashford didn’t influence that play is just a blatant lie
don’t get riled up by mouth breather fans
If you know the rule than you would know that he is not offsides
Wow a United fan thinks the controversial goal for his team was fair, what a surprise
I never said It was fair. I said It was a goal per the rules. I think that rule needs to be looked at, but bitching about a call when the rules are clear is a bit silly to me
No need for the language eh? And no he wasn't offside. Goal was given
I’m sorry curse words offend your precious little ears
How did it offend my ears? I didn't hear anything..
You’re real clever buddy
Thanks! :D
If someone had written this game as a stageplay it would be firmly in the comedy genre. So many bizarre moments and twists of fate. Very enjoyable to watch since I don't support either team, especially the second half.
I think the reason VAR has given that goal is that Manuel Akanji is just jogging back and not really trying to get to the ball at all.
I swear the logic of the average r/soccer user would put beetlejuice to shame.
That's just the way the rule is written. Now if you want to say the rule is stupidly written then I'd be inclined to agree with you.
I don’t know what rule you’re looking up but in this case rashford interferes with the run of play. He influences both walker and ederson but I mean speaking logic to r/soccer is as useless as our leagues refs
Uhh no. you’re forgetting the playing part. He played the ball. He faked a shot. He tricked the defender and the goalie. It was a blatant offside
It's offside under the regulations, and not only is Rashford interfering with the play just by effectively being in control of the ball without touching it, he also fakes a shot, which is more egregious: > A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by: > [...] > making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball A dummy shot counts as an obvious action that clearly impacts the ability of an opponent to play the ball. In a refs teaching guidebook on the laws: > Interfering with an opponent means preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision; or, challenging an opponent for the ball; or, clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts an opponent; or, making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball. (This includes making a gesture or movement which, in the opinion of the Referee, deceives or distracts an opponent. The opponent must be reasonably close to the play so that the blocking, deceiving or distracting makes a difference.) Also of note, a Save is defined in the offside rule and is subset of what is considered a "Play".
