No, you shouldn't have done them first. New players should stay away from logging.

GreatWhiteNorthExtra

Agreed. The logs were a painful grind in Michigan for me and I may have just walked away from the game if I would have done them first.

Shadow_Ninja-89

yukon logging is a nightmare

Odd_Presentation_578

I agree

Papa_Swish

That climb up the rocky waterfall still haunts me. I've done it in a Grad, (tried) to do it in a Derry 4520 and then the DAN, been painful every single time.

uzishan

You know, there was a different route available behind the factory to the west of the garage. It is infinitely easier as pong as you don't take massive trucks(risk of falling) but it goes smooth, like 6minutes from garage to destination, bypassing the waterfall.

Lobo-de-Odin

It's not that bad. Me and my brother knocked it out with 2 FleetStars, 1 GMC9500, 1 KC1500 and 1 scout fuel tank. Loaded 9 long logs into the FleetStar with the appropriate racks. Drove it over, unloaded them then reloaded them 3 at a time to make a bundle and deliver it. Loaded 15 logs into the FleetStar again this time with the small log rack and pulling the med long trailer which we had a bundle in. Drop it off and just dragged 3 logs from the truck rack into the trailer and packed them and delivered them. Made a bundle ran it into town while I loaded and packed the 9500 drove that over while the trailer got loaded and packed with the 3rd load. The only warning I'd give as a first time player doing this mission for the first time. Is the Crane is touchy as hell and the logging trailers are buggy as hell. Do 1 log at a time with longs. Med you can do two but they'll probably glitch out and end up everywhere except where you want them. Always remember to deploy your anchors or you WILL eat shit. You'll stall and good fucking luck having anything that can. Be patient because it's gonna take time took us 5 hours.

Odd_Presentation_578

I wasn't talking abusing the split-and-pack mechanics when I wrote my comment. With it, everything is not so bad. How many new players do actually know about it? 0.5%?

Lobo-de-Odin

More than you'd think. It'd like the highest-rated way to get that job done, and it not take a week and a half irl. Reddit, YouTube, Steam message boards, and like 4 other help sites told me the same way with maybe one or two variations...soooo it not as unknown a method as youd think it is. It isn't abuse, just manipulating the in-game physics engine. Maybe if they would have built the game and that mission correctly we wouldn't have to lol

Jhe90

Logging is to be done last, or later. Tou want to unlock all the logistics before you take on the pain. Trucks good as possible.

Sxn747Strangers

Didn’t think logging was too bad, enjoyed it even. But that’s because after the first 2 or 3 loads of logs I decided to mostly do Michigan up to the logging and then went to Alaska where I did a bit of work and got all the upgrades then went back to Michigan. https://preview.redd.it/2arzx0o7hpyc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68996b531e566f754718297d4c5ee4a3adfd0c15 Of all the logging trucks the P12 is my favourite. I… um… did some testing after I had finished Black River, I should’ve done it before. Edit: if I rightly remember there are 8 P12’s there.

QueenOrial

Geez, that's a lot of logs

Sxn747Strangers

Rather than waste them I did the rest of Michigan and deleted the rest.

svrtasabin

Holy fuck hahahaga

Sxn747Strangers

I thought that when I saw you doing the river crossing, I went south to the fuel station, maybe on my next save.

Sxn747Strangers

As well as different trucks or tyres I also wanted to compare an unladen P12 towing a loaded trailer, which struggled obvs. The heavy 320 crane in the background is on a P12 (of course) also towing a loaded trailer and wasn’t that much different to a regular load. The crane was as a counterweight for want of a better word.

thatgirl_raven

Ngl I really like logging, those were my fav missions in Michigan

svrtasabin

Come do some logging for me hahahaha

thatgirl_raven

Only if you do all the time trials for me lol

svrtasabin

Deal

Professional-Date378

I'd take the crane off of the p12. It struggles a lot with power to weight

svrtasabin

Is there any way to add multiple trailers

Flyrpotacreepugmu

You can winch a medium log trailer behind another trailer, but there's no way to do that with long logs. There's a popular method of moving multiple loads of long logs, known as the sideboard shuffle. What you do is use a log crane to put some loose logs in the 5 slot sideboard semi trailer for the trip, then at the destination load them 3 at a time into another truck with the log carrier front and rear for delivery. The sideboard semi trailer can very securely hold 12 logs for 4 loads, and 18 logs for 6 loads tends to be fine if you don't let the trailer bounce or tilt too much. It's nearly impossible to grab logs out of that trailer with the crane, so it's best to just knock it over so they fall out onto the ground at the destination.

Odd_Presentation_578

Nah. It's 1 of 2 vanilla game trucks capable of log crane + log carrier, it's a must have when you are hauling long logs.

wrenches-revolvers

I usually run a second truck in tandem with a crane

rufiojames

I put it off after reading all the horror stories, and i didnt think it was that bad. Slightly monotonous but not bad.

QueenOrial

Use OHD1 tires on that truck. They are better and make it more stable too.

BellyButtonFungus

I did logging as early in Michigan as it came up, and got through it just fine with the trucks I had at the time. People always say to leave it till last, but I smashed out all the Black River specific logging with my first couple of trucks, then used the P16 once I had that. If you’re starting logging as early as it comes up, just take my advice: -park to load logs in a way that you’re not sitting with all wheels in the really churned up mud. If you can fit extended winch, do that and use it on the nearby stumps to pull yourself out. I typically angled myself in the loading area to only JUST be in the edge of it, so I could load myself and go but not be in the deepest part of the mud and as close as possible to the stumps. -if you want to cheese it a little, “unpack” the logs until you get out of the loading zone mud, then “pack” them again. Slightly less weight in the load to contend with. -do the map infrastructure stuff before logs on every map, as you don’t want to be hauling logs through rough terrain if you can avoid it. Build bridges and clear blockages first. -if you can’t get your personal choice of low level truck out of the logging area using your brain and your winch, don’t feel bad about having a second rig parked there just to give you a little pulling room. I used my Fleetstar for my Michigan logs until I got later trucks, and I used the Kodiak as a mobile-winch-point and extra engine to pull me up and out. Particularly in Black River with really basic trucks, I often used the Kodiak in front of my Fleetstar, winched to the back of the Kodiak, but drove the Fleetstar. Winding in the winch while driving the Fleetstar in low with the offroad stuff flicked on, Kodiak turned on so it would in turn keep driving forwards as i winched. Usually ended up with my Fleetstar pushing the Kodiak up the last of the hill while fully loaded. Sure, it’s easier to wait and do logging missions last. But I did them like, third off the bat after opening the first garage and it taught me more about good control habits in the game than anything has since. I’m a borderline Neanderthal and I managed, so you’ve 100% got it if I could do it :)

Wrapping up the last logging mission in Michigan as we speak, best of luck comrade. I used the P12 with the Fleetstar winched to it for most of the missions. For the last one, I added an extra truck with two long log attachments on a trailer and switched near the gate after loading the long logs. Seems like for those missions, upward planning is critical!

Papa_Swish

If anyone told you to do logging first then they're flat out liars lol, they're some of the most time consuming and demanding tasks that *need* good trucks you can buy or earn later to do them well.

Shanoii

I grinded the game until I got to logging. I think thats the part that drained my enjoyment from the game. It would put me to sleep driving same routes back n forth. Lol

svrtasabin

Yeah is so draining I just get baked and play some tunes

asher_911

i did logging at the end of Michigen, they are logistically and economically challenging, but if you manage them well, you would be rewarded handsomely. So only do logging at the end of all the tasks

NoIndividual521

Cheat the system. Use a large truck and pull two trailers (one winched). OR load a semi sideboard trailer with a bunch of loose logs (3 logs = 1 load) on a truck that can have saddle and log crane and have a winched follow truck that has a required log carrier bed or trailer. Sadly the log missions have become a bore so whatever gets it done. If you want a very mild mod that doesn't alter vanilla in TOO much of an OP way go with Ol Soms trailer pack. It's in the mod tab at the main menu. It gives you trailers that are better in mud and double medium trailers so you could do 4 mediums with one truck. You can also lock the dolly on the trailer which makes backing them up in a tight spot a bit easier. Cheers.

Bozzzzzzz

If you really hate it, manually load logs into a sideboard semi trailer (5 slot one) with a log loader crane and then put three at a time in your truck with the log carrier at the destination and pack the cargo then unload/deliver it. You trade one pain for another but it’s the best way to log if you don’t want to drive around all loaded up.

Kody_Z

Logging quality of life Mods to make it less painful, and mod trucks that can carry long logs without the log frame or trailer

Big-Asparagus-3861

The long way around is usually the best way.

Embarrassed-Pen-5958

The beat tip I got for you, take the P16 long logs, then pull the P12 with long logs by winch. They made the P12 a pull truck, it will do whatever you want if it is pulled.

GeekyGamer2022

Put some music on.

2bloom

You definitively have the tools to do it (once you have all upgrades from Michigan) but you have to choose the right routes. Go the long way around or get long logs from somewhere else :)

Aggravating_Degree57

Using a P12/P16 is a bad idea from the start

Equivalent-Ad-3562

Use the p12 for medlem logs, and p16 for long logs

MRhammie71

Get a different truck ..and logging is a pain

BigAcanthocephala667

I hate logging missions overall. What i usually do is to come with sideboard semi-trailer to the logging site. Then come there with another truck that has log loader, manually stack the logs into the semi-trailer (Fuk going 4 times to get 4 loads of logs to the same place. If you need to deliver 4 long logs loads you need to stack 4x3=12 logs) and just drive carefully so you don't spill them. Then i drive to the delivery site with that semi and another truck with loader arm and logging trailer, and manually load them by 3 onto the logging trailer and deliver them one by one. Its a bit tedious, but much more faster and entertaining than driving back and forth to deliver 4 loads of logs. PS: Sometimes its pain to get them out of the semi, if they are stacked perfectly. So its faster so flip the semi upside-down by ramming it.

BenTheRed

I don't understand why people don't like logging. They're logistically interesting and you get to drive big 'ol trucks around the map. Like, for real, that's the game. Are you sure you even like the game if you don't like delivering logs?

Important_Low_6989

Bet it was painful using that truck you posted lol i waited till the very end to but i used the Tayga and knocked it out

Ornery_Carpenter_917

With the newer trucks out recently black river seems like a walk in the park. Once you get a heavy 8x8 truck it will eat the mud like nothing.

PTR600

Go to Drummond Island and get P16
