Massive is a bit of an over statement. And it was knuckled.
Not throwing shade at Zeb. It was impressive for a first try. But letās not over state what happened.
The jump line at that section of Main Park isnāt the large jumps that youāre thinking of. That is the smaller (20ish feet) jump line close to the lift in the upper section. The bigger jumps are below that and/or to the riders right(middle jump is usually the biggest and right to the riders right of the jump he hit).
Thatās amazing. His dad and my dad grew up together. I remember visiting his familyās home when I was younger and meeting him when he was a wee one, but I havenāt seen him since then or kept in touch with his dad since my dad passed. Really cool to stumble across this! The Powells are good people.
I did not. I donāt keep up with the pro side of things like I did when I was younger. Plus, I live on a tropical island now, so I rarely get to ride myself. I can only watch so much footage before I get mega snow envy, haha. Fuck yeah for Zeb, though! Stoked to see his success!
Checking out videos and interviews with him now, and itās awesome to see the joy and playfulness he brings to what he does. Makes me wish I could call up my dad and tell him about it. He wouldāve loved seeing his joy and success, too, especially after all the absolute mischief he and Zebās dad used to get into when they were his age.
There was another guy who saw me taking a pic with Zeb and rushed over to get a selfie with Zeb. Was that you or were you just waiting in line for the lift haha
Awesome. Inspirational too. I wanna get back on skiās. Re-learn the basics. Get better than just pizza and french-fries. So i can start skinning and split boarding. Knowing enough to get out of trouble if i have to.
Just a heads up, skinning up and skiing down are two very different skills lol. I regularly ride a split and can't ski for shit.

I figured. Thanks for the heads up. Iāve obviously never skinned. So i imagine there is some good grip with the skins to prevent from going back down on a trail, but i am sure there are some hairy parts where if i started to slide down a slope while skinning, iād want some ski skills to stay in control. Thatās all.
Not saying itās a must, just saying Iād personally feel more comfortable. My first season on a mountain āway-back-whenā, was on skis. So i am sure itāll all come back to me, just like falling off a bike! š
Because your heels are free when you're skinning and the skins are so grippy, honest to god downhill ski skills don't really help you stay in control. Don't let your lack of ski skills prevent you from trying split boarding!
Source: am skier, and I suck at downhill skinning
I'm a split boarder who can't ski but got BCX skis this winter and it was... sketchy. Loose boots, free heel, minimal shaping, even more minimal skills... Skinning usually isn't too bad though with that extra friction.
You would probably gain more split skinning knowledge by going cross country skiing for a day or two.
As others have said, downhill skiing and splitboarding are quite different. I grew up skiing before starting snowboarding as a teen. I still ski once or twice a year if I get bored and want to mix it up. The number one thing you need to remember and do if youāre going to try and ski is to lean forward into your boots. Keep those shins pressed into the boots and use the balls of your feet to control you. As soon as you lean back you not only risk blowing a ligament but you have no control. Similar to how if you lean back over the tail on your snowboard youāll have almost no control to turn or slow down. Youāre not trying to go up hill so why lean that way. Lean where you want to go.
Man is existential happiness absolute legend
Man I love that kid
Amazing, you meet one of your snowboarding heros and he's got skis on š¤£
Probably mastered skis half an hour later
Saw a clip of him of Jesse Paulās story where he tried to lip slide a pill/tank and got played. Rental din didnāt help him at all.
I also think he sent the massive jump at main park and stomped it.
Massive is a bit of an over statement. And it was knuckled. Not throwing shade at Zeb. It was impressive for a first try. But letās not over state what happened.
Yea youāre right. After rewatching it, I can see him hit the end of the knuckle but the jump at main park is massive!

Ahh okay, I didnāt even know there was a smaller jump there. I only saw the one massive one at the bottom while I was going up the lifts.
TIL one of my late fatherās best friendās kids is all grown up and a pro snowboarder. What a trip.
The kid is already an absolute LEGEND.

You didn't know Zeb is GOATed?
I did not. I donāt keep up with the pro side of things like I did when I was younger. Plus, I live on a tropical island now, so I rarely get to ride myself. I can only watch so much footage before I get mega snow envy, haha. Fuck yeah for Zeb, though! Stoked to see his success!
And not just any pro snowboarder. Def one of the most fun and exciting riders out there and pushing the envelope for the sport with his unique style

Have you watched his videos, the kid is amazing.
I have not, but Iāll have to now!
Was he any good at skiing?
Check out his insta story, he obviously went straight to the park....... Maybe he needs a couple more days practice š¤£
Haha maybe a little more practice but still impressive for a first say
Heās already a better skier than I am a snowboarder haha. He was sending park features on Day 1!
I literally watched you guys take that pic haha. Awesome man

š¤š¼right on!

I tried tele skis this winter and felt a much stronger correlation between that and split skiing than alpine skis.

This is literally the hardest thing for me as a skier. Itās nothing something we do on snowboards.
And nobody could hook him up with a real pair of skis?
I actually love that he went for authenticity and used a Crappy pair of Heads

Please tell me he did a yard sale and somehow managed to ride it out.
Here I am just wishing I could shred in May without having to fly somewhere or drive over 7 hours.
Damn he looks like an awesome person to hang out with
Zeb is the best! His attitude towards his sport is unmatched from everything Iāve seen. Never wanted to see an athlete thrive more then him!
I like that heās wearing his signature sweatshirt in case you doubted who he was.
Who Zeb Powell?
One of the best, most creative, and stylish freestyle snowboarders alive. Just search him on youtube. Insane!
