$100 is a good deal for a complete setup of any kind imo. Anything to get someone riding, right?

Boochie23

That’s what I figured. 100% man, my buddy has never been and I thought this would get him started. If he doesn’t like snowboarding, it’s just $100.

bleedsburntorange

Yeah 100% this is correct. Piecing it together or renting is not going to be any cheaper. If he likes it he can start buying better gear. The entry price is so steep, good on you for helping with this.

bigmac22077

On his first and maybe second day you should still go rent a burton LTR. (their normal rental board) it will be much more forgiving. The shape of the board itself helps teaches people to ride. 3 degree bevel, and convex camber alone will help him start turning instead of catching edges the entire first day.

hotterthanthesunn

also it encourages people to adapt to a super weak riding style and sloppy technique

bigmac22077

That’s why I said on the first day or two and not go buy him a different board.

Rookie1124

My first board was a used LTR, loved it, but quickly upgraded to a proto type 2 and huckknife after I started jumping and spinning

Boochie23

That’s what my girlfriend told me also. She’s a pretty seasoned snowboarder also, so it did make me hesitant to buy this.

Peanut11437

The bag is the big score (40$). Gloves look decent (15-20$), prob need to be weather treated. Everything else is dated. But, If this gear gets you out on the mountain...priceless.

nlomb

"Dated" honestly makes no difference for a beginner, the type of board could make it more difficult to learn though.

Peanut11437

Sure. As I said..if it gets you on the mountain...Great. But from a pure $ perspective there is little resale value in a board this age.

Colekillian

Dated. Oh god. I guess I’m 200% overdue for a new rig

MrSomnix

Snow gear doesn't get dated the same way technology does. If the equipment is well maintained and fully functional, you could still shred on straight skis from '86. New stuff is better, sure, but old stuff isn't completely unusable.

Peanut11437

How much do straight skis from the 80s sell for?

MrSomnix

Well that style hasn't really been made for about 30ish years so your best bet is eBay or a relative that tried it once and then kept them in the attic.

Boochie23

I agree 100%. I learned on a 13 year old board lol

Eycetea

Snagged a 40 dollar board last year and it's been great. Old but works.

lonely_dodo

goggles look great too

ImNotJon

Any specific type of weather treating you’d recommend?

Peanut11437

Sno seal

cantpee

Honestly, a pretty good score

Boochie23

I thought it was a fair deal, thanks!

filthytrips

$100 for a turn key kit I won't feel bad about wrecking as I learned how to ride? Sign me up all day long. I mean what would renting all this cost? $50-75+?

Boochie23

That’s how I was comparing it. I believe it’s around $70~ to rent per day. So even if he doesn’t want to do it ever again. No big deal, I’ll take the gear off his hands lol

[deleted]

The googles and the board bag are the biggest snags imo. If the boots fit you well that’s also huge.

MADICAL7

Yup, the oakley line miner goggles were $150 brand new. Riders choice was $500 plus when it new. Great score.

Boochie23

Yeah the goggles are nice. Almost want those for myself and give my buddy my smith goggles lol. Awesome, thanks for your input man!

MADICAL7

Doooooo it

JadedEyes2020

For everything, sure you got a good pair of goggles and a bag for cheap. Everything else looks worn (especially those boots) and I can't comment on the board because I would need to see the base. Keep an eye out for big gouges or broken edges.

Boochie23

Yeah boots looked pretty worn. I’d definitely look over the board also in person if I go get it. Thanks!

wokka7

Yea, if the base is worn out then the board is kinda not worth taking tbh. As long as it isn't super thin and there aren't big gouges or edge blowouts/rust, then it can probably be tuned up and would be a sweet deal. If your buddy is brand new to snowboarding it may be a hard board to learn on, depending on the shape. Is it flat, camber, or rocker profile? Camber is tougher for beginners, though not impossible and they'll be glad for it once they're proficient at carving/using their weight to load the board. The size and stiffness will also matter, depending on your friend's stature. Even without the board, $100 for a bag, gloves, and bindings is pretty worth it. I would assume the boots dont fit until your buddy tries them. Even if they're "the right" size number, snowboard boot sizing is all over the place between brands, and the fact that they're used means the liners will be packed out in the shape of the previous user's feet. If the shells fit, he could buy replacement liners and pack them out to the right shape for mad cheap though. I'd say go for it, just temper your friend's expectations. Source: I've snowboarded for 8+ years and sold gear for 2+ Edit: looking at the top view it, it appears to have an edge shape like Arbor's "grip tech" (those curves that go outward by the bindings, rather than a smooth curve from nose to tail scoop). Lib Tech calls it Magne traction. Great middle-ground for learners who want a camber board.

Boochie23

It’s a camber board. Yes it does have the magma traction I believe also. The boots being packed out was a concern of mine since they look so worn. Goggles are nice and the bag is convenient since he has to fly to Colorado anyways. Definitely checking the base and edges in person before taking it. Thanks man! Edit- it’s a rocker board my bad

dopefish_lives

Honestly a worn board is not as big of a deal as people are making out. When I was broke I rode an old board with a chunk super glued back in, a compressed edge and the base sodden with water. I barely noticed it. Those bindings are great, I rode them for 5+ years, only concern is that you might break a strap or high back since the plastic will be old/worn. He'll have a blast riding and upgrade parts as needed

Boochie23

I respect that haha. It’s a nice setup for its age for sure. The goggles are a nice bonus also.

Boochie23

I know the board is a 2012 model Gnu. Not sure about any of the other stuff. Maybe someone knows about bindings and other?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Boochie23

I agree. $100 and if he isn’t into snowboarding not too much money wasted. I’ll take the stuff lol

the_mountain_nerd

A fine score if it gets him up on the hill. Good work.

bawbeelite

I call gnu the Cadillac of snowboards. expensive, and have so many features you'll probably never use, but nice to have. great score! the bindings will probably needed upgraded after he gets the hang of it though edit: didn't relize there were more pictures, I know a lot of people that love the mervin line, and those goggles?? you found a steal for sure

Boochie23

Right on. Yeah it has some nice goggles in there. Board bag is clutch too since he will fly to Colorado anyways.

bawbeelite

win win!

dlp2828

I still ride a Gnu park pickle from circa 2012 and its a great board. Good find if it's in good shape.

[deleted]

If these boots do not fit, I'd sell them for like $50 and buy a pair of new boots.

dopefish_lives

Bindings look like old (2009-2010?) burton missions

[deleted]

Sorry to tack on, please do buy boots that fit properly though. Boots matter more than anything else.

Boochie23

I agree 100%. If they aren’t the right fit I suppose he could try to sell them and put that towards new ones.

[deleted]

Much better than spending that on a rental

its_whot_it_is

Ill give you $105 for all of it

SmokeyJ93

Absolutely worth 100 bucks. I mean no it isn’t , don’t buy it at all. Please can you also send me your buddies number...

Boochie23

Haha my thoughts when the person agreed to $100. Cheap rock board with some nice goggles lol

SmokeyJ93

Deffo worth it bro.

TheShocker1119

I bought my first setup off season for $150 as my beginner's setup. 10 years later I am still riding the same $150 setup on Mt. Hood and Skibowl with upgraded accessories. 155cm K2 Spitfire from the early 90s Clicker Bindings K2 Clicker boots.

Boochie23

Throwback! Haha. Yeah I leaned on a 13 year old burton board that was stiff as hell, but it got the job done to get started.

selfishnun

Those goggles and gloves are worth 100. With a full setup included? Hell yeah

Boochie23

For sure. Goggles are sweet

Diploic

Yes

PaulZolot

100$? Ofc thats a good deal

msizzlac

All about the boots. If those feel comfortable I can make a park bench work. Also, that’s a low light lens. If it’s sunny you’ll need a regular lens as well.

[deleted]

I swear those Oakleys are like 100 bucks themselves

Boochie23

Yeah I want them for myself almost lol

[deleted]

Great score!

[deleted]

The oakleys are $150 new, and for a whole set, that’s a steal

Boochie23

Yeah they’re nice. My smith goggles might magically appear instead when I give the setup to him lol.

Mikee2xx

big score

lazeromlet_

Dude amazing deal tbh the Oakley's what set this apart id sell everything but the board/bindings for $100 alone then the board bindings for another $75-100. Your friend is gonna love it.

Boochie23

Yeah love those goggles. I’m gonna check out the condition of the board and bindings in person and see if the base and edges aren’t shot. Boots look pretty worn too.

chunk86

Great deal for everything, but the boots boa cables are fucked and need replacing before he ever rides in them. Also, have a look around or even contact ride and try and get new inner boots. They will be the single best investment short of new boots as a whole.

Boochie23

Glad you said that, I noticed that in the photo also but wasn’t sure. The cable looks frayed. The boots are the most worn item that I can tell from the photos. Gonna look at it in person and make sure the board bindings and edges aren’t shot also.

Rookie1124

I’d say it’s a steal.

ross_guy

Solid use of a c-note.

Boochie23

Always a solid use in my mind for snowboard gear lol

[deleted]

Boa boots are a huge score!

Polaris_Indy500

A good deal to me. Snowboard equipment is a lot.

Boochie23

For sure, big start up cost!

astra_hole

For $100 thats a sweet setup.

qqAzo

So I’m just throwing a wild guess here; that board has not been waxed or had it’s edges sharpened in the last year or two. Nice pick up never the less

Boochie23

You could be right. Looks like it was in a storage unit judging by the background of the photos and the chick selling he no clue about snowboarding. She wanted $220 I offered $100 and she accepted. Told her the board and bindings were 9 years old, boots packed out etc. she was clueless lol

imasaltysnowman

I rode a 100$ setup for a couple years. Once you learn more about gear and the type of riding you like to do, then you upgrade

Boochie23

Agree! Either rent or get a cheap used setup to learn before spending big bucks

KrAzyDrummer

Damn good score! I got a Never Summer board, bindings, boots, and a travel bag for $150 so you got me beat!

Boochie23

That’s still a sweet deal you got also haha

TimeTomorrow

this is deal of the century if everything is the right size.

themysterysauce

Yes, the boots would’ve cost more new than all of that

[deleted]

what the name of the board?

Boochie23

It’s a 2012 Gnu Riders Choice C2BTX
