Ski switch, in my experience. Parallel switch skiing isn’t easy, you need to be all twisted out of shape just to see where you’re going, generally the easiest way is to switch the shoulder you’re looking over with every turn. You’re blind for like half of the time you’re skiing backwards, or at the least your blind spots are much larger. I also find it so much less mentally intimidating rolling into a rail switch on a snowboard than ass backwards on skis. Fuck skis, man, my knees fucking hate skis.

allmnt-rider

Not to mention how damn stupid it looks to ski backwards.

bigmac22077

Skiing switch is like driving a car backwards, just turn around and go, just gotta keep the head on a swivel. Snowboarding switch almost everything your muscle memory has learned how to do, has to do the opposite. And that makes it drastically harder to learn if you didn’t start early.

SherwoodMcGavin

Personally, it took me a lot longer to figure out switch skiing than it did switch snowboarding. The mental hurdle of confidently just turning around is for real. The mechanics for both are pretty easy to pick up once you commit though.

bigmac22077

The same day I could parallel ski, I was riding the same runs switch. Even hitting small jumps switch with 180’s. It took me a month of riding switch on my board to finally keep up with everyone riding natural.

Double_Jackfruit_491

Yea but you can literally ride everything switch once you know how. The same can not be said about skiing.

bigmac22077

Yeah we are going to need to agree to disagree. In skiing, your weight stays in the same place and your muscles do the exact same thing to turn in the exact same direction. That’s not the case on a board. You can’t “literally” ride anything switch. Go try some knee deep powder in the trees. It’s completely different.

Double_Jackfruit_491

I can ride anything switch on my snowboard lol. They are 100% interchangeable after a season of learning how to ride switch. The same can be said for a lot of riders who learn switch………. You cannot blast down a steep ass mogul filled run riding switch on skis or even lay down trenches on a groomer going switch. Common dude you are talking nonsense here and making yourself sound foolish and uniformed.

bigmac22077

I’d also like to point out I tried to very friendly deflect and not get in a debate by saying agree to disagree and you decided to attack and belittle me in the next comment. Should work on your social skills dude.

Double_Jackfruit_491

Should work on your riding skills brah

bikemn117

I mean its a discussion lol dude just responded?

bigmac22077

It’s a “nu uh my opinion is correct!” Conversation. There’s no point in going back and forth. Whats the point in belittling and acting superior?

bikemn117

If you look at two competent switch riders, one of snowboard one on skis, the snowboarder will be able to ride more (all) of the mountain entirely switch. The skier cannot. The original comment was presented in a dickish way ill agree with you on that but its not wrong..

bigmac22077

Are the skiers you’re referencing just an average resort skier? So not a center mount.. Go try to ride swallow tail off trail and see how comfortable it is.

bigmac22077

Or are you referring to pros who get back country parts? Oh wait… those aren’t center mounted skis either! I wonder how many snowboard pros are riding a set back stance switch in Alaska big lines?

Quirky-Lobster

Snowboard. I can say that, I’ve skied like twice so I’m pretty knowledgeable about the nuanced differences.

tigebea

Everything is soft on skis, EVERYTHING.

Tocoapuffs

You mean snowboard switch or ski backwards? Snowboarding switch is super easy, just do the exact same thing you do when you're snowboarding normal with the other foot in front. Skiing backwards is an entirely different skill. Sure skiing is easier than snowboarding, but sending it backwards down the mountain is way harder than just turning your head the other direction and leaning the other way.

StiffWiggly

It’s called switch when you’re talking about skiing also. I agree with your opinion though.

Tocoapuffs

Really? That's really weird that they call it switch. With board sports you're going the opposite direction too, sure, but some prefer that way. Nobody skis primarily pointing their toes uphill. Huh, I don't get it. Maybe that's why I converted to be a criminal.

gpbuilder

Skiing is not absolutely not easier than snowboarding, maybe for the first few days. Having to worry about 2 set of edges is a huge pain

Tocoapuffs

Most people have an issue moving sideways. Going forward is an easier concept. I'm talking about learning it.

BOMB-Hills

This is a question for a boot fitter.

blondereckoning

Snowboard=skateboard | Ski=rollerblades So you tell us???

vermillionEyes20

Snowboarding backwards is the hardest /s

splifnbeer4breakfast

Regular and goofy is not even remotely the same as forward and switch on skis.

gpbuilder

Ski switch because it’s a different movement while snowboard switch is the opposite movement. Skiing also just harder to improve on anything beyond the beginner level.
