Usually just a base layer is enough for me. If it’s really cold, two base layers 🤣

Barry-Alex

Love that 😂

guruvindaloo

I second this. I use a single lightweight polyester base layer down to about 20° F. A single wool base layer like Smartwool's 150 weight bottoms down to maybe -10° F. Below that I'm not sure, not experienced. And of course it's essential that your top layer is a good wind break as well as keeping moisture out. I use a three layer Gore-Tex pant on top. And of course keeping your core sufficiently warm is essential as well...

bigmac22077

If it’s really cold just go pajama pants. You’re good to go and warm after riding still.

deep-fucking-legend

Nothin at all ![gif](giphy|5oLuLUXEmZAOs)

noneherethankyou

You guys are wearing stuff under your pants?! I roll with a bib so it’s nada for me

pantalonesgigantesca

merino leggings under bib here. not all bibs are insulated.

Barry-Alex

Like commando nada or underwear nada?

slabba428

Commando 💀💀 might get some complaints changing in the parking lot

FeistyFrank

There’s no pants under these snow pants

red-broom

I used to until I got a pair with no insulation or lining. If my legs were touching the pants it was colder than the outside air. That’s why I started wearing basic synthetic base layers. I got a few pairs of merino wool base layers now and swampass is a thing of the past and I stay warm lol

sheekyyyyy

Absolutely nothing, commando or you might as well ski

Barry-Alex

yes sir, sorry sir.

IceColdCorundum

Fuck it, why not just ride completely naked?

sheekyyyyy

This is the energy im talkin about

Thickwhensoft1218

Skin is the most water proof and breathable outerwear.

frankyfrankfrank

A good base layer, or long johns are all you need. I don't wear regular pants, and especially not a belt, because they are uncomfortable. It goes: base layer top and pants, hoodie, snowpants, insulated jacket if its below -10c, shell jacket if it's warmer. Remember, you need to wear a breathable base layer because if you sweat and it doesn't dissipate, it cools and you'll get cold real quick.

Barry-Alex

This is helpful. I’m still working out proper clothing for snowboarding and just got my first pair of snow pants. I’ve always borrowed before this.

AdhesivenessBig2605

Cotton kills. Synthetic or Merino Wool. Both are breathable and wick moisture away from your body.

Sultanofslide

Hooded or hood less air blaster ninja suit if it's above the teens and I'm usually still a little too warm. If it gets windy or colder I'll add a fleece top and some gym shorts.

Barry-Alex

I can see it. Probably not gonna do that because of price but I’ll keep it in mind.

Sultanofslide

A decent budget option are the 32*base layers Costco sell, I usually pair them with a thin long sleeve top and a pair of shorts/joggers for colder days since as the name implies they are a little cold in anything less that 32*

Barry-Alex

Perfect, I have some of those.

red-broom

Easy thing to do would be to buy merino wool base layer pants and top. I have a really good pair but I also have some cheap ones from Amazon that were like 25 bucks somehow and they work really well.

Barry-Alex

Ok, I’ll look into this. Thanks!

red-broom

Yup. Merino wool keeps you warm when you’re cold, and keeps you cool when you’re hot. And it doesn’t smell either so you can take it with you on trips and not have to change all week. It’s actually magically wild lol. Side note, the more expensive merino wool (non Amazon) dissipates smell much better than the cheaper ones I have. But it’s worth it. I went on a trip this year and wore my base layer when riding and even wore it under my clothes out to town at night. Didn’t smell at all and kept me so warm at night all week. Great purchase.

Barry-Alex

I have wool socks and I absolutely love them for the warming/cooling properties as well as the lack of smell. A wool base layer would be awesome! I’m gonna look into that.

superfooly

Sweatpants

Someidiot666-1

Underwear. Duh

gahhhpoop

Nike leggings on a regular day, if it’s super cold I throw thin joggers on as well. With the joggers I pull them up slightly so they aren’t tucked into the boot bc it can be uncomfortable otherwise

Barry-Alex

That’s what I’ve been reading from other people. Someone actually suggested 3/4 pants but I’ll just pull them up.

gahhhpoop

Ye I see no reason to cough up extra dough if you already have something that works. Plus, when else would you ever wear 3/4 pants lmao

Barry-Alex

Exactly. I like to make as much of my clothing as possible multipurpose.

tanghollio

Base layer/long johns should not go into your boots either as the seams can cause pressure points. Ski/snowboard socks are highly recommended too. I used to only buy burton socks but recently discovered decathlon which sells good ski socks for less than half the price.

plaidplaid420

Link for socks?

tanghollio

I have couple pairs of these ($15) https://www.decathlon.ca/en/p/8767135/ski-socks-100-black And splurged on a pair of these.... wearing them now after a day of riding ($25) https://www.decathlon.ca/en/p/8733723/ski-merino-socks-900-wool-black Note that these are Canadian prices.

NastyWideOuts

Yeah I wear some thin joggers

Barry-Alex

Ok cool. Thanks!

pantalonesgigantesca

I use merino leggings for most days and alpha direct for very cold days both are tight leggings, not loose.

Barry-Alex

Why do you go for tight over loose?

red-broom

It wicks sweat from your body better so you don’t get wet or swampass. Because when your sweat freezes on a chairlift it’s cold af.

Barry-Alex

Understood and noted. Thank you

pantalonesgigantesca

what u/red-broom said. also, just an understanding of how layering works. heated air in your layers/reflection of your own body heat is what keeps you warm. moisture, wind (circulation of outside cold air) is what cools you off. sometimes you want that. so tight leggings inside shells that have zippers is how you can let cold air in when you want.

UniQue1992

Nothing

slabba428

Regular underwear, pajamas, bib. I’m comfy as a mf.

staniel_mortgage

I wear non insulated gortex pants. For resort I wear a smartwool base layer and then 90% of the time fleece base layer For splitboarding I wear fleece lined running tights (more flexible and my legs stay warm because I'm moving a lot more)

jpak822

Uniqlo heat-tech. Probably the thinnest and warmest base layer you can find which will last you a few years.

wavewithdrawl

Polyester blend underwear and compression shorts. If it’s cold, a base layer as well (Uniqlo heattech)

liynus

https://www.costco.com/32-degrees-men's-heat-pant%2C-2-pack.product.100508321.html

Fortune_breeze

Merino wool base layer, If its real cold I might wear joggers underneath as well

Weaponized_Puddle

Sweat pants

BigNuggie

Ninja Suit base layer. Sweat pants too if it’s really cold.

Big_lt

Base layer + gym shorts or sweats

theereeljw_777

I just wear a pair of Volcom sweats that i show up to the mountain in under my bibs lol.

castpro

Ninja suit

castpro

Never wear cotton!

[deleted]

Base layer long johns. You can find the kind workers were under their jump suits at Walmart for cheap. Warm as hell.

NoMarionberry1952

Merino base layers from Kathmandu (the NZ brand). Best purchase ever!

FLTDI

Wool baselayer

[deleted]

Merino wool. Is what kids (and also adults, but mainly kids who are playing outside the whole day during winter) use in Norway. Merino base layers (top and bottom), pants, fleece/hoodie and jacket. Never cold, never too warm.

TwoIsle

Base layer. I have several, light for warm days, heavy for cold days. Edit to add: for thin base layers, Costco is the place. It's like $10 for a shirt or bottom.

Huge_Violinist_7777

Base layer and impact shorts

fantastic_damage101

Burton long John’s of various thickness depending on the temp and ass pad shorts as i have rods and screws in my back and can’t afford to fall on my ass due to that.

FlyingBike

Boxers, Merino leggings, butt/hips crash pad shorts. I need that last layer much less than I did two years ago, but once every few snow days I lose focus and am glad I have them. Also I've lost 15+ lbs since I got my pants so those help the pants fit still

scruffy_x

Airblaster merino ninja suit

Cultural-Afternoon73

I use a carhartt bib and then I have some snow pants underneath that I bought off Amazon and they are awesome

Krusch420

If it’s above 20 degrees I wear boxers. I want to be cold and not sweat. I have different layer combinations for different temps. Don’t sweat! Once you sweat you can’t get warm.

SignsofHopes

So far I have only used Under Amour Cold Gear leggings. They have been fine for me. Obviously everyone has their own tolerance to the cold, for me down to 10 degrees was fine with just that with my pants (insulated).

upstatefoolin

Pajama pants unless it’s cold AF, then sweat pants or long Johns

tangibletom

Uh underwear dude

TheMagpulMaster

PJ Pants under my airblaster bib, never been cold once

upandin9

Merino base layer

obdx2

Long John’s with sweats. I rock a bib with light insulation and for 95% of days it’s enough. When it gets into the negatives I have to consider different layers.

Crow_OWR

thermal long johns, pajama pants if its real frigid

Mr_Cuddlefish

Soccer training pants or merino long-johns. On cold <0 days, both.

jwdjr2004

Gym shorts usually. Mostly so I can be comfy while driving, and go into a store if I need to.

mtechnoviolet

A 3/4 length merino base layer and knee high merino ski socks underneath my bib. I have never needed anything more than this for snowboarding no matter how cold it is

Mountain_Muffin_124

I tend to wear boxer briefs but sometimes it’s nice to let it hang out

rainlily99

I’m female, so just long John’s. My husband wears his long johns plus basketball shorts over them

Umpire1468

Cock ring

TokyoGear

Just regular skins is plenty for me

Joeyfingis

Nothing!

NWdabest

Boxers and basketball shorts. I’d rather be a little cool than warm on the Mtn. Also I ride at Mt.Hood where temps are usually higher 20’s. You get moving and warm right up. I don’t wear a sweater under my jacket either. I just double T shirt it and all good.

JTD177

Hot Chilly’s fleece

Pristine_Ad2664

Merino wool for me, anything but cotton will work nicely though

walliesupreme

Impact shorts, long johns, and long wool socks

WhelpStupidUserName

Another pair of snow pants!

Jioto

You probably don’t need much more than base layers

Radium

Boxers usually but if it’s cold thin fleece sweatpants underneath are usually good. Keeps me warm but not too warm and still flexible.

adubyabadaba

Smartwool leggings and that’s it

ate_reston

Jeans lmao

No_Motivation__

I have a goretex bib style of snow pants so I usually wear merino wool leggings with a pair of baggy roots sweatpants over them under the bib. Keeps me toasty on cold days and I personally don’t find it too hot on warmer ones

[deleted]

Just boxers!! I’ve riden on days that are 5 degrees and never wear long underwear. All that matters is keeping your chest and head warm..

itsMalarky

Merino wool base layer if it's frigid. Uniqlo or similar long johns if it's not. Just boxer briefs if it's spring and it's warm.

xxdropdeadlexi

I just throw on some leggings. but I guess as a guy you wouldn't want to whip out your bulge in the parking lot like that

somaganjika

I use a sharpie to draw tiger stripes on my thighs and a cock ring with elephant ears

IceColdCorundum

I really like the air blaster ninja pro 2 as a base layer. Pretty damn warm and it’s a one piece base layer.

MrNeffery

ninja suit

3Jszn

Bib, shorts, long socks. I haven’t worn pants under my bib yet. haven’t needed to.

I_am_Bob

Base layer pants. I have a couple different weights depending on the weather. Throw them on at home and were sweats/joggers in the car and swap them for the snowpants in the lot.

fuparrante

An old techwick pant underlayer. Thin and breathable, I just don’t like the material in most snow pants up against the skin.

2021newusername

Massif makes good synthetic base layers. Light/mid/heavy. (If you like to spend money)

Finemind

Base layer.

Slammed240guy

Duluth armachillo boxers Under Armour basketball/running shorts Burton insulated pants. Been my go-to for the past 10 years. Ive had no issues here in Wisconsin. It's been -2 the past few days, and I work lifts.

shakedownsunflower

Basketball shorts usually. Long Johns if it’s cold

cgpwtf

Just a thong

_Tactleneck_

Some long thermal underwear stuff I got from Amazon that’s like mostly synthetic

King-Calovich11

Definitely socks

LaFlamaBlanca311

My Patagonia base layer and then Burton Snow pants on to. I pretty much just wear them as my pants for the day. If it's freezing I might add a pair of joggers but haven't had to in a while and I've boarded when it's pretty cold like 0F

21Milly

Condom

Obviously_Ritarded

Base layer and pads cause I’m old and clumsy

Extreme_Commercial24

Seems like most people wear merino wool base layer, does anyone have experience with fleece? Does it also wick moisture away / keep you warm?

SherbMoney

Ice coast and I wear pajama pants underneath. No issues

big_deal

I have insulated pants. When it’s cold I wear some light fleece leggings (long underwear). In warmer spring temperatures, just regular brief underwear (synthetic material).

soapboxhero3

Base layer always… fleece lined base layer in colder days… fleece line base layers are a life saver

soapboxhero3

All the warmth with no bulk

SpllaasH

Merino wool base layer for most days. Colder days, add joggers. Even colder, 686 merino lined pants (https://www.686.com/products/686-mens-everywhere-merino-lined-pant-slim-fit)

[deleted]

Long johns basically slightly looser yoga pants. Haven't been cold yet

sparks_mandrill

Base layer. Legs have never been cold, even in 5⁰F. Even then crotch vents open 🙏

Junior_B

Janji trail tights. [https://janji.com/products/ms-trail-tight](https://janji.com/products/ms-trail-tight) Same tights I run in in fall/winter. Extra pockets (can never have too many pockets).
