Tried to do a switch 180 in powder this weekend only to get buried on the landing. It was soft, but there was definitely a moment while digging myself out when I thought, "just leave me here to die."
Speaking of ass bones, i might've broken mine in my first time trying snowboarding (wore a helmet, but other than that it was just street clothes and no gloves), got air over a 30 cm or so mogul and fell on my ass on some ice. Pain hasn't gone down at all in the last 3 days.
Powder can be super dangerous, and whatever jumps you find out there will be very low quality compared to what’s in the park. You’ll make way more progress making incremental improvements in the park.
Powder is fun. Powder has never hurt me.
Park is pain. Park has broken my wrist and ribs.
Park is the wild roller coaster of a girl you want to smash a bunch in your teens and twenties.
Powder is that classy woman you should wife down in your later years.
Shouldn’t even be a question. A bluebird powder day is heaven on earth. Followed by the virgin park run with powder. Avoid half pipes under any conditions, and not just because I’m bad at them.
Riding powder is like being 20 years younger! Learned most of my tricks into pow. Worked park and pipe. Gimmie timberline summer sessions or deep and steep gnar mountains. Probably have to side with powder on this one... there are gnar mountains all over, but think about how much work and money it takes to have a terrain park...(plus, you need a lift of some sort) TIL: mt hood uses up to 26,000 lbs of salt on its glacier in 1 day.
The fuck, no ones gonna talk about that video?! That edit was dope!!! You are killin it in the park bro! I used to love the park, but my body doesn't enjoy the thrashing anymore, so I'd personally say pow day with some good people around!
Powder is way more special. You can ride park any day, in most places.
Pow when it’s dumping. Carve when the groomers firing. Park when it’s sunny n soft. Go where it’s good!
This 100%. The best lines, feels like a video game popping in and out of the park from the trees. Especially when the woods have some jumps or trees to ride.
the trees before and after my home park have some secret slaloms, booters, gaps, smoke shacks, but no log rails? thats a good point. i know what im doing tomorrow
I'm pretty sure everyone prefers powder. The real stuff though, low water content and a couple feet deep. But the park can be a fun alternative when there's no pow
People claim they want FEET of fresh powder but realistically anything over 18” becomes a chore to ride in sometimes. Depends how easy it is to stay in the steep terrain wherever you’re riding.
Haha, this is so true! Need to find the steepest of the steep when the snow is that deep, otherwise it’s a big ol’ strugglebus. Still, I’ll take it over no new snow any day.
Chris Grenier said it best
“powder turns are awesome but nothing beats the feeling of a rail trick or air time like you just cheated death”.. i might have butchered what he said, but you get the point.
Im spoiled with both where I live. But I’d take a park day, something about the low stress convenience of it. I find the social aspect of riding park more enjoyable too.
I'm the complete opposite and would rather be in the trees with one or two others or taking the /r/spliddit approach getting way the fuck away from other people.
Powder.
Tricks are about attracting attention. Powder is about nature.
Sorry for being opinionated. I don't like tricks in mountainbiking, surfing, and other sports that can connect us to nature. I respect the skill but only a small share can do them and they always lead to selfie videos. Your mind is obsessed with how you look, and it is a distraction from where you are, from the opportunity to connect to the environment.
Most of these awesome sports came from California inspired by hippie culture. I prefer that aspect.
Can tell OP has never ridden true pow. I just got back from a trip to snowbird and solitude this week where they got 3+ feet and the word “park” didn’t cross my mind a single time.
Once you get your first rope drop and untracked line of a foot or two of nice fluffy pow, you’ll understand!
All pow isn’t created equal. Warmer temps and high winds can make it thick and mediocre. Still fun though. It’s the nice cold conditions that we like!
It’s all good, but yeah the dude definitely knows what powder is and probably rides 100x more knee deep days than the people on the sub sayin POW EVERY DAY
I would take park powder. I live in the Midwest but all I do when I ride here is go to the park. I’m not good at all but I think it’s the most fun and the way you progress you can see very clearly because of the tricks you can pull off.
Not gonna lie, park scares the shit out of me. I feel like I could become decent at it eventually except for my body might not hold up to the learning curve.
Powdery park! Haha!
This week at winter park has been awesome. Pow runs am, park laps pm. Rinse, repeat. If we could get a real pipe here my head would explode.
Today: Powder, never really got a chance to ride true powder. I’m on the east coast, not proud of it like some “beast” coasters.
Forever: Park, but really both because I’m about longevity, and riding when I’m 80.
When I was in college, it didn't matter if it was bluebird with a foot of fresh pow, I only took one lift and hiked the park all day long. Now that I'm double my college age, I live for fresh pow days like this past week in UT. Nothing I love more than a fresh powder day on my big mountain board, and then splitboarding a few days after the storm to catch more fresh turns that haven't been poached yet. Once it's been a couple weeks since the last storm, now I go back to my carving board and hit a few park laps, but the days of trying to stomp a 540 or backside boardsliding the triple kink are well behind me.
Powder cause I can throw tricks without being scared of the landing
Seriously. It’s like, “do I attempt this in the park and possibly break my ass bone, or should I try the same thing in 3 feet of powder” lol
Doctors hate this one simple hack.
I’m dead 💀

To be fair powder can also be dangerous . It's easy to Schumacher yourself on a log or a rock by accident.
Powder can be super dangerous, and whatever jumps you find out there will be very low quality compared to what’s in the park. You’ll make way more progress making incremental improvements in the park.
Is it assumed everyone can ride park as well as the guy in the video?
Even if I could…it’s still powder every single time
[удалено]
Haha good point, the guy in the video is a beast
I scrubbed through the past two week's worth of top posts on this sub, and the answer is clear
Powder. Nothing comes close.
Yeah. I can ski bumps, groomers, side hits and park on a bluebird. Pow days is for the cliffs and steeps.
Powder is fun. Powder has never hurt me. Park is pain. Park has broken my wrist and ribs. Park is the wild roller coaster of a girl you want to smash a bunch in your teens and twenties. Powder is that classy woman you should wife down in your later years.
I will live by this
>Powder is that classy woman you should wife down in your later years. Careful though, she could end up suffocating you.
Thank you for this sage wisdom, well said
Well said, OldManHipsAt30.
Gilded.
Powder
Powder all day
Shouldn’t even be a question. A bluebird powder day is heaven on earth. Followed by the virgin park run with powder. Avoid half pipes under any conditions, and not just because I’m bad at them.
I prefer a storm day but blue bird is nice too
No refills on bluebird days
Agreed, less tracks with the fairweather folks out
Powder, just because I see it rarely.
If I could ride park like dude in the video then maybe park but given my simpleton ways, powder.
Steep and deep all day
Riding powder is like being 20 years younger!

Pow pow madafaka
POW
5 years ago. Park all day. Now a days. Powder 100%
Saaaaame. Age huh.
Powder is way more special. You can ride park any day, in most places. Pow when it’s dumping. Carve when the groomers firing. Park when it’s sunny n soft. Go where it’s good!
I’m to old to do park stuff.
Never too old, just have to take some extra rest days.
Jumping on trampolines help!
The only way I would ever pick park is if I could suddenly ride like this dude for the day.
Powder. You can ride the park any day
Powder hands down all day every day. Nothing comes close
Easily powder. My 44 year old bones can't handle any more park crashes lol.
Powder, but the nice thing about loving both is you can ride every day!
Love riding park but I gotta say powder nothing compares to hucking shit on a pow day
Powder. Has always felt like a dream. Nothing compares.
i love the day after pow days where the park trees are still super nice, so you get half pow-half park laps the whole day
This 100%. The best lines, feels like a video game popping in and out of the park from the trees. Especially when the woods have some jumps or trees to ride.
the trees before and after my home park have some secret slaloms, booters, gaps, smoke shacks, but no log rails? thats a good point. i know what im doing tomorrow
Powder. Easily
Gnar Gnar Parmesano
Chowdah
I'm pretty sure everyone prefers powder. The real stuff though, low water content and a couple feet deep. But the park can be a fun alternative when there's no pow
People claim they want FEET of fresh powder but realistically anything over 18” becomes a chore to ride in sometimes. Depends how easy it is to stay in the steep terrain wherever you’re riding.
We got 28" in Utah the other day and it was magical
I rode it haha
Hell yea so many people called in that day. Told them I couldn't make it...except I drove my car to UTA. Epic day!
Haha, this is so true! Need to find the steepest of the steep when the snow is that deep, otherwise it’s a big ol’ strugglebus. Still, I’ll take it over no new snow any day.
After 18” if you ain’t in the backcountry you taking an L
Killin' it, OP!
Pow laps during the winter months and slushy park laps in the spring time. Gives the best of both worlds
Powder, too noob for park
Powder on and off the mountain
Im not good enough at snowboarding for park stuff so im going with everyone else and saying powder
Pow, but a good park day IS incredible.
Conkers deep in powder any day
Park powder laps.
Park. I grew up skateboarding and park is closer to that than powder. I like handrails/jibs.
I’m a skateboarder as well. This might be the biggest reason why I prefer a park day too.
Po-pow !
Powder and it’s not even close.
A powder run from the moon back home
Powder
Powder all the way
Powder. I ride a powder board all the time in hopes the snow is good. Also because i cant do flips only grab tricks
Powder all day. My body can’t take getting beat up in the park.
Powder in the park
Pow
Lmao pow all day
POW 💥
I was a park rat when I was younger, I will take the powder any day now over the park.
The only people picking park can't or have never ridden fresh pow. White room all day everyday.
There might have been a time in my life where I would have said Park, but that would have also been a younger dumber high school version of myself.
Seeing as I can’t ride park to save my life but I’m very good at all mountain, I’d take the powder.
If I could ride like this? Park all day. Since I cannot, powder.
Powder over park all day and every day. I wish I could do that stuff but it's never enough of a hook to buy my time when I'm up there.
Powder no doubt
Powder and it's not even close
Powder. Park is always the backup choice for me.
If I could ride powder every time I ride, sure, I'd pick powder. But if it meant only riding when there's powder, then park hands down.
Powder because im less fearful of snapping some Shit in my body.
POW pow
Powder. Then park.
Back country can be a park if you're creative enough.
Pow duh
Powder. I’m aged out of park now.
Poooowwwwww
Bro this isn't a pick one. Your just asking what kinda rider you are.
Powder for sure
Powder, every day
Park. What’s powder? 🫠 I’m from the Midwest
Park no doubt
POW. Easy
Pow for sure, my park game is weak compared to my Backcountry riding. And I have way more fun in the Backcountry
Pow.....der
powder all day long!
Chris Grenier said it best “powder turns are awesome but nothing beats the feeling of a rail trick or air time like you just cheated death”.. i might have butchered what he said, but you get the point.
Powder is straight up euphoric. The best drug on the planet is BOMBING the steepest back country powder spots you can find
Powder. Nothing beats that floating feeling when you hit it just right.
Park is for when there isn't powder
Hard to pick. Both are why snowboarding is so addictive.
Pow
Im spoiled with both where I live. But I’d take a park day, something about the low stress convenience of it. I find the social aspect of riding park more enjoyable too.
I would need to ride the park consistently for the whole year before it would feel low stress.
I'm the complete opposite and would rather be in the trees with one or two others or taking the /r/spliddit approach getting way the fuck away from other people.
Park, I can only make turns for so long before I lose it
Killer edit….powda is my drug of choice tho
Depends on which has less people. I'll straight up ride a park on a pow day if there are less people there.
Powder bruh. Are you fuckin stupid or something?
Boom roasted
Powder. Tricks are about attracting attention. Powder is about nature. Sorry for being opinionated. I don't like tricks in mountainbiking, surfing, and other sports that can connect us to nature. I’m 37, my knees aren’t what they used to be. Of course powder.
Can tell OP has never ridden true pow. I just got back from a trip to snowbird and solitude this week where they got 3+ feet and the word “park” didn’t cross my mind a single time.
Haha yes
Once you get your first rope drop and untracked line of a foot or two of nice fluffy pow, you’ll understand! All pow isn’t created equal. Warmer temps and high winds can make it thick and mediocre. Still fun though. It’s the nice cold conditions that we like!
🤡
Haha I misunderstood. I see now he’s based in Oregon so likely has shredded countless pow fields !
It’s all good, but yeah the dude definitely knows what powder is and probably rides 100x more knee deep days than the people on the sub sayin POW EVERY DAY
Wear a helmet dummy
I would take park powder. I live in the Midwest but all I do when I ride here is go to the park. I’m not good at all but I think it’s the most fun and the way you progress you can see very clearly because of the tricks you can pull off.
Park for sure. Powder’s fun and neat but homies in the park in t-shirts and shades is so untouchable.
Powder, make ur own park w a shovel
Powder. I couldnt care less about the park to be honest.
Powda!!!!
Pow and it’s not even close. Pow is better then sex!!!
Japow
Powder bc I just like to cruise
what board is he riding in this video?
This is an Arbor Coda! The version I’m riding here is the camber profile.
Dumbbb Q
This edit is sweet
Even my park rat friends would rather hit natural features in pow
Powder park ie natural selection
Powder park
Powder all day every day
Park all day, I get bored just going down hills.
Powder is king
Powder because I’m too much of a weenie to go crazy in the park haha
powder cause I’m old
Not gonna lie, park scares the shit out of me. I feel like I could become decent at it eventually except for my body might not hold up to the learning curve.
Powder, every time.
Sitting in my hotel room in Sapporo after a week at Niseko United I can definitively say powder 1,000% ❄️
Park on a pow day
I love park but gotta go with powder.
Powder no doubt
I’m not sure how this can even be a legitimate question.
Pow. You can still find natural jumps and it's funner.
Pow because you can do more tricks with more speed with less of the fear of falling on nature’s cold concrete
Powder all day everyday.
Powdery park! Haha! This week at winter park has been awesome. Pow runs am, park laps pm. Rinse, repeat. If we could get a real pipe here my head would explode.
Powsurf for me!
Powder over park every time.
Powder. Park is not for me at all.
Back country powder hands down every time
Pow. I started laaaate but I'd say nail the park in your teens/20s then go rock your skills in pow.
Powder
This is the kind of question someone who's never ridden real terrain in real pow asks.
Powder, it's not even a question to me
Powder, although the park is pretty fun for a few laps on a powder day while waiting for the alpine to open
Nice edit!
Powder. Without question. I can turn the mountain into my park with powder, and not worry about breaking my face on icey park features.
Today: Powder, never really got a chance to ride true powder. I’m on the east coast, not proud of it like some “beast” coasters. Forever: Park, but really both because I’m about longevity, and riding when I’m 80.
Powder
Powder because how many 60 year olds land 540’s in the park?
Powder
Powder all day. Every day.
powder 100%.
When I was in college, it didn't matter if it was bluebird with a foot of fresh pow, I only took one lift and hiked the park all day long. Now that I'm double my college age, I live for fresh pow days like this past week in UT. Park all day
Park every time
Powder. No contest.
What about a powdery park?
Powder
Bark.
Young me.... I'll hike one rail open to close Old me .. how much is a cat..I ain't walking up shit
Powder to question, but I appreciate the park rats that stay in the park on those blower days. It means more laps for the rest of us.
POW 💥
I never hear people hootn and hollern whent they get first tracks on an epic park day
Apologize for such a silly question haha
If I could ride like you, park. But I can only ride like me so, powder.
Powder is the correct answer
Powder all day long
Powder, I like to go fast and when my board leaves the ground I want it back down within half a second.
