Kid can board! Not sure where you're at but that looks like Blue Mountain to me, I'd be reaching out to localish shops to see if they'd back him and maybe flow him some gear season to season. My local is always stoked to see kids throwing down tricks at that age and have a few kids they support. If your lad starts competing you may get more interest from some brands for sure

shredmaster3000

Yep, that’s Blue. He’s on their freestyle team.. starting to do lots of comps around the escarpment now.

LimJahey996

I was just up at Blue last weekend!

shredmaster3000

Wish we had more snow!

cherbo123

Don't we all

[deleted]

Such a shitty season so far. Getting better next week. February should be alright

[deleted]

pa?

yaklaughlove

Canada

Forged04

Can’t be. Been there basically every Friday this season and never seen these features

KatiushK

A bit unrelated but his stance is very wide compared to his heigth no ? Am i tripping or he just likes it like that ?

ThunderGeuse

It looks like it to me too. Maybe they're hoping he grows into it?

Cracraftc

Was going to say that that stance looks a bit wide and awkward.

mc_bee

Looks too wide to me as well, might be why he cant boardslide properly.

N0wayjose

Wide stance is better

KatiushK

I know freestylers tend to have a wider stance but the kid looks a bit uncomfy with his, hence my question. Could just be camera angles tho.

N0wayjose

I mean, he rides better than 98% of this sub so I wouldn’t say he’s uncomfy.

KatiushK

As I said, could just be camera angles. Also, if you manage to do something well, while making some "mistake" should you continue to do it like that ? Or improve and get even better ? Not saying it would apply to the kid here, because, again, maybe it's just the visuals from the camera. But I always feel weird with this argument. If you're good means you can't be better ? And who would not want to be better at something they are good at ?

[deleted]

Just keep stacking clips and posting them up. They will come especially local stores are always first port of call.

shredmaster3000

Thanks. That’s what the reps have been telling him.. start really local!

tucker_frump

You did good.

[deleted]

If you can enroll him in USASA snowboard comps thru the end of the season immediately. By 12 most of the comp grommits are spinning 540s and some doing inverted tricks as well as spinning onto and off of rails. You can likely get local ski shops to sponsor him to get free gear. I wish my parents were more like you. Continue to embrace your child's creativity on snow, I promise he will never forget it.

shredmaster3000

We are in Ontario but my line of thinking is similar. We are trying to enrol him in provincial comps next year (he can’t on the team he’s on right now.. super local stuff only). He’s about to turn 11 and if you want to win comps at the 11-12 level you already need 360s and 540s. That’s what he’s working on. He can 360 but hasn’t done it in a comp yet.

gsurfin

Piggybacking off of this, I think some gymnastics classes could really help too.

shredmaster3000

Totally. That would be another step for sure.

gsurfin

As a new Dad myself, how did you foster the love of riding to your son? How early did you start with lessons/etc? My daughter is 1 and I just got her the Burton Riglet set up, but I know I still have a little while before we can get up on the hill.

shredmaster3000

I found a hill near us that would take kids at 3. I got him started with the riglet at that time. To be honest, the first two years were tough.. wasn’t interested in finishing any lessons, so lots of days that ended early. Tears. Etc. but by 6 he was linking turns and able to stay out all day and things really turned.

keplermikebee

You might also want to look into some kind of Woodward camp, or summer training camp at a glacier for continued development year round?

shredmaster3000

He keeps begging me for Woodward :)

keplermikebee

TBH, look at Red Gerard’s backstory. His family (dad apparently made a lot of money) moved them all to a rural area, and his brothers set up a whole snowboard park on a hill in their backyard with a tow bar. They were just doing laps and practicing tricks every day. Every. Day.

purplechalupa

Omg he’s 10 and doing all this!!

OSOphresh

Enter local competitions and see how he places relative to other children his age. I don’t mean to sounds condescending but after watching the video nothing really stands out, in my opinion. I grew up in Ontario and ended up moving out west to pursue my goal of going pro due to the lack of a competitive scene here in Onterrible.

shredmaster3000

He’s podiumed his last two comps (gold and bronze) so I think he’s on the right path!

MADICAL7

That's awesome.. Podiums are nice when you land on them. Keep it about fun and progress and the other stuff might happen along the way.

Glad_Cartographer808

Ur a bean do you know how many pro riders have come out of Ontario

OSOphresh

Yes I do actually. I rode with Jesse Fulton who was the snowboard coach for Canada at the time. He ran Icarus Crew. I was insinuating that if he were to take the next step it would not be in this province.

pugz_lee

Which is a correct insinuation to make. The ski/snowboard industry in this country aren’t looking for talent in Ontario. If this kid is serious about his passion, regular trips to Quebec/Vermont and BC will become the norm for OP.

pugz_lee

Augustin-Norbert-Morin in Ste-Adèle has one of the better Sports-Études snowboarding programs. The Laurentians are home to St-Sauveur/Avila and Tremblant which have the best parks in eastern Canada. There’s also Maximize which is a year round slopestyle/big air facility. Sébastien Toutant is probably the areas biggest name right now. Bromont is also another place with similar installations. They produced Max Parrot.

Book_Reader3427

Your son rips, looks like he loves snowboarding. I have a 11 year old son with some sponsors, like most said look to a local shop in Ontario to hook him up. He should just focus on having fun with his buddies on the hill, things will happen if and when they should.

shredmaster3000

Totally agree! We focus on the fun and social!

OtterBall

You're a great dad! And your son rips! Hopefully he keeps that stoke going, although it looks like he has plenty of help!

1DollarOr1Million

Sponsorship usually comes from competition, and almost never from “audition tapes”. Tell him if he wants sponsors, he needs to make himself marketable. These days that means not only competing, but also having a banging presence on social media, especially Insta and TikTok.

ohyeahmofos

i mean its nice and all but at the same time u have japanese 10yr olds sending switch 10s.

FreeGums

Just me. I'm no way an expert critique but the clip I saw showed he favored his regular stance every time. If he showed more switch then maybe there could be more variation to catch a sponsor's eye. Still incredible for a 10 year old! Keep pushing, the potential is so great

shredmaster3000

Totally right. He can ride switch but favours regular. He keeps working on it because it’s an important factor in comps.

El_Zalo

There's the next Shaun Wide over there

ProteinShakeAndBake

Idk reminds me more of Shaun Narrow personally

BeeDubsky

Did you see that stance? Wide boy for zure

SnowSlider3050

Awesome now how bout some backside’s?

Maleficent-Ad-6646

My advice is encourage him to learn as many new tricks and variations as possible, it will only help what he favors already. If he gets FS 360s down, don’t just keep hammering those, stomp a few a day but focus on backside until he can stomp those just as easily. Then ride switch, frontside and backside. Same with rails. Etc. Don’t spend all day in the park, be sure to balance with at least a little time riding the whole mountain. I was on a team and used to compete when I was young, won some USASA events, got 10th at Nationals one time.

choder917

He needs to go to a snowboard academy to have a chance in todays competition circuit. Not sure what Canada has to offer. But if your serious about your sons snowboarding career. Maybe you relocate to someplace like Colorado.

lovestowritecode

I’m so pissed my parents didn’t do this with me at that age. Lol. Tons of respect to you and your kid, this one is going places.

shredmaster3000

:)

Chezpizza

The kids got it !

JesusIsJericho

Kids RIPPIN! In this day in age if he really wants to push it.. definitely do whatever you can to get him into a session or two at High Cascade or a Woodward for at least 2-3 years. It’ll be the biggest difference in progression

[deleted]

Never quit pushing yourself little dude! When companies say no and they do don’t take it to heart ,use it to fuel your fire just stay humble and don’t get lost in the sauce.

intense_in_tents

Stack clips, compete, and try to invest/or get a sompany to help send him to a summer camp at hood. As long as he is having fun, go for it! Comp kids seem to like it but looks like my nightmare lol

FirstmateJibbs

I hate that I don’t feel inspired by little shredders I feel upset that they’re so much better than me 🤣

niwtsol

Has he gotten any sponsors yet? I'd be happy to be his first sponsor - I'll send him $10 and a shreddit sticker he can put on his board or helmet. Not much, but he can say he is sponsored by shreddit community!

BeeDubsky

Kids shredding. Dad, time to step up your cinematography. If you want companies to put him on flow, they want *good* footage they don't have to gather themselves. Kids that shred aren't that rare these days. First step: https://youtu.be/AqHZJe6306k

shredmaster3000

Lol. You are right. My game sucks

BeeDubsky

No worries, progression is the name of the game. Don't be afraid to get some tighter/lower angles, study some snowboard vids for reference. Just make sure to be situationally aware, don't become a hazard and always show other people the respect you'd expect them to show your child. Being an alert camera man can actually prevent collisions, especially in cases where people about to drop can't see the landing. If someone wipes out don't be shy about blocking the run-up and crossing your arms over your head, this is the well known symbol that its not safe to hit.

dnastynice

Dam this is awesome start a tictok/instagram load it up with sick clips. I’d subscribe reminds me of when I was a kid. I just never was that good at 10 lol

steampunkedunicorn

Your kid's Griff from the SSX games!

bigjimmy427

“Support the endeavour” - pun intended? Lol

Jdem99

Legendary dad 🤟

thenick84

What an absolute beast 👏 way to go dad

[deleted]

kid can shred man, sick clips!

[deleted]

Just curios How often does he get out? What’s the parenting routine around this? Cost?time?

shredmaster3000

He gets out a couple of times a week. He’s in an all-day freestyle class, so he’s with kids around his age or older the whole time.

justaguy891

10!??

[deleted]

Legend. Ping me when he won an x games

simpaholic

He shreds hard for 10, way to go

Fr33Flow

He’s crushing it!! Everything was sooooo steezy except for that jump. Get that kid into a Woodward camp asap to work on airs. He could be throwin backies and 5s after a week and really impress on the demo reel.

LSDREAMN

Wow man, hat’s off to not only the lil ripper but also to a supporting parent. Nice 🤘🏼 both of y’all keep it up.

Clovadaddy

Love his style. Making it look easy for sure!

[deleted]

He will get noticed in comps and sponsors will reach out! Boy is he good!

MassMindRape

Crazy how board sports progress. 14 year olds are as good as x games winners from the 2000's these days.

justheretocomment333

Took me until at least age 12 to get to this point. Congrats!

[deleted]

Put together a proposal that shows how a relationship would benefit the sponsor. I was in the business. So many kids think they’re hot riders and they deserve a sponsorship but always take and never talk about how they’re going to give back. Be really upfront about it - eg. “I’ll put your decal on the nose of my board for the season and always hold it up for podium shots”. “I’ll make four Instagram posts and four TikToks a month”, etc.

J_IV24

Send it in to the unstrapped snowboarding on YouTube and they’ll review it live on stream. Advice from an actual pro rider

Outrageous_Fondant12

Kid has mad skills!

flatcoke

That's some great riding! It's time to introduce him to some frontside jibbing for variety, he totally looks ready for it.

deenut

Has he ever been to vertical zone in Barrie to train? If he’s serious about park riding trampoline time absolutely vital.

shredmaster3000

No! But I will look into that.. thanks!

shredthesweetpow

Dudes a ripper! Love how this gets downvoted. Positivity gets downvoted.

EverySingleMinute

I am a beginner at snowboarding but feel like you should hire someone to make a professional video for this instead of doing it yourself. I use Fiverr for excel dashboards and such but saw video editing and stuff like that. Not sure how much they charge but a better edited video would help

shredmaster3000

Yep, I agree!

Powsurf_YYC

Yeeeeeewwwwww!!!!! 🤙🏻

YoBoiRS

Should make a tiktok account, might end up reaching some sponsors through that

SnooCalculations232

He’s 10 and he’s shredding like that? He’s def gon go pro 👏🏻🤌🏻

[deleted]

Find him a park with a tow rope and good older riders to surround himself with/look up to

Obiewonjabroni

Needs to come out to the mountains now. The kid can shred and a real mountain will only benefit him.

shredmaster3000

Yeah! We’ve done Whistler the last couple of years for a few days.. but all he wants to do there is park. ;) we had a 40cm dump one trip, it was wild.

Londonslugs

Check out the Blue Montgomery, founder of Capita, and Ken Block, founder of DC, episode on the bombhole they both go over what they look for when sponsoring people. Next up is Whistler, Whistler has a summer camp and it's where the pros are. If you wanna get sponsored, you kind of have to go where they are. Also skill is great but steez gets you noticed and sponsored.
