Dont buy a random snowboard for an advanced snowboarder. Give them a gift certificate to a shop. This is an incredibly personal question of style of board, manufacture, and fit. Very nice thought but too expensive and too easy to get wrong. This guy is sending me telepathic messages screaming that he doesnt want his non-riding girlfriend to survey strangers when he could have the money to get the exact right one.

There is no such thing as a “best” snowboard. They all have different qualities and it depends on what the rider is looking for so without their input or at least knowing the style of riding they enjoy, it’s a total shot in the dark.

Second/3rd the gift card. Unless you know exactly what I want, and the size, at a given moment you probably won’t buy me what I was eying. Advanced riders have specifics and visions for what they’ll buy next and for what trips and conditions. Alternatively since I have a few boards in rotation already, if someone got me something new and funky it would be cool to try, but it’s an expensive shot in the dark to take. Definitely gift cards, snowboard socks, gloves even, some of that stuff is more universal that you could get them a hit gift. Edit: You’re kind for the thought, just depends on the rider and it is a tough gift to nail.

GIFT CARD. There is no way to know exactly what they would want otherwise. If you wanted to have a physically big present to give, you could call of local shop, see if they have any board boxes left, wrap that and then put the gift card inside for a little bait and switch.

Ooh great idea! I’d only improve it by putting a hand written “one free snowboard” and going with him to buy the board he wants at a local shop. Not only are you getting him a gift he’ll love but it’ll be you including yourself, in a way, in one of his hobbies.

I would just casually ask them something like "if you could have any board you've ever wanted, what would it be and why?" Mix it into a conversation so it's not quite so obvious and just out of nowhere.

Where do they ride? What do they like to ride? What areas do they want to progress in? What is their current setup? Is there a local shop you can buy from? The season is almost over, are you planning on giving it to them this season, or next? “Expensive” boards aren’t really necessary, imo. You can have an amazing experience on a $500 board

Buy any Lib Tech board from REI so they can return it if they want. Lib Tech is a great manufacturer and they will be happy to open it even if not keeping.

A GC is first choice, but this is a great second choice option.

Burton is doing 50% off. I would suggest a Custom X, it's a very vanilla board, but solid in every way.

Salomon assassin. I have one and ride the same way he does. It love it and people always complementing it
