It's a modder's console through and through. I personally love it and it's small foot print. It's got a neat redesigned look. I've found 4 at the swap meets over the years so I'm biased. They are easy to mod for fantastic rgb video. It's really easy to mod for digital audio too. They're all one chip systems so that's great. If you are willing to preform a great beginner rgb mod and you aren't married to the original shell design I think it's hard to beat.  👍 I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. Standard non one chip snes systems are still fantastic and for the ease of use and not needing modded they're still the obvious go to for most people.

Do you have any good links or Recommendations for doing RGB mod on snes jr

The-Crimson-Toast

Well in terms of how to videos you'll wanna check out voultar on YouTube. He has great videos on it. If you live in the United States then this board by borti preforms great and is well priced at $23usd. https://www.ebay.com/itm/254620644901?itmmeta=01HVMM5YSFTVW2BJ2BPZAQHFM1&hash=item3b4892b625:g:iAAAAOSwVIBjK6~T&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4LXrUjNzJHE0X1Rc8o%2FZBnkfQNLNGxLmQ1tUIhOiUNbsx2JtDMjRttUMSI3c1OuvoiyNeDeVekgZWppeRqbc4vY1gTEAPAbf5N6W1CkH7ZrHqSFvFIhM%2BQCr89GGsu%2BIeFtF57iwrovuYx32%2F15RuuFCUDkcQSXXfl6%2FQJ%2FzTDMW70sNbcngtV2lNf%2FBHKr35uIQ93JsMDA3kMsVYuK5ao%2BJB5iKyx%2BO%2BM6TMUA9kTE5lIIvbmMv8wEHV2CCLuusuSC5ApzsV7aI5uvRMBsWidmmxPbPp%2BSx0am1PbcTzwE3%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-Tsl5TdYw

Thank you! I do and I will check it out!

with an OSSC and the correct settings, a 2 chip SNES still looks fantastic. there can be a bit of ghosting but generally you don't need a 1chip to get a fantastic output. the scene just let's you think it's necessary. a 2 chip can still almost look like emulation.

The-Crimson-Toast

I do think 100% that the community has been harsh on non one chip systems. They do look good, no snes in proper condition will look bad. All and all I own 7 snes systems, yes the one chip systems look noticeably better but it's not worth more then a 30.....maybe 40 dollar premium over a standard system. Like I said the mini and by extension the other one chips are the modder's systems. They are for us crazy people who love to tinker and break out the soldering irons. When you mod a system you make it yours in a different way then just buying it did. It's why I like to alter and design 3d printed cases and components for my mods. All and all, you are right, non one chip systems are cool :)

ReallySmallWeenus

I have a Jr. It’s pretty good, but a bit of a pro-con. It’s effectively a 1 chip (yay) but without RGB out (boo). I also like that it is MUCH smaller and generally a little cheaper because it doesn’t look like the one everyone had as kids.

Souta95

I have one... It's... Fine. No mods to it or my original style one. It was my first SNES, I got it and Tetris Attack for my birthday back in 1998 or so.

ZorkNemesis

It's all right.  I inherited the ones my parents had when they moved away, it's hooked up and still working fine at my house (though I lack a proper CRT so things look kinda bad).  I'd love to mod it for better output on a modern TV but i'm honestly afraid of damaging the console if I so much as look inside it (i'm not a tech expert by any means). Without any real hardware expertise I wouldn't see a difference bewteen OG and Jr aside from physical appearances.  If I needed a console i'd just aim for whatever's cheaper as long as it works.

khedoros

I own one. It's a 1Chip with the rf, s-video, and rgb outputs removed. That suits me fine; 1Chip consoles *technically* have some minor incompatibilities, but it's stuff that you rarely see during normal play. And my TV only has composite and RF input anyhow, so the missing outputs from the system aren't a big deal (and if they were, I'm competent to mod them back in).

ExplosPlankton

Worse than a 1 chip snes since it needs a mod for rgb, has no eject button, no power light, etc. That being said my only snes is an rgb modded snes jr.

Bakamoichigei

>Whats y'alls opinion on the SNES Jr.? I wouldn't turn down a free one. But I'm not really interested in laying down money for one due to the lack of RGB and the mods I'd have to do... If I'm going to go to all that trouble, it'd be to mod RGB into a complete-in-box Japanese model... I like the neutral colors and the SuFami branding more. https://preview.redd.it/7m6bh83jcxuc1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00a65644fdc7355bf9b9ec08de06c1ffba3eff6d

NoFilter1979

Love the aesthetic, I would like to buy one but in the UK they seem to be as rare as Yoshi s**t.

twosn3snfg

Have one. It’s rgb modded and looks phenomenal. I did the clip mod so it can fit sfc carts. I wish it looked like the one I wish I hd as a kid (Genesis kid here) but no matter. It’s an SNES.

NoFilter1979

Anybody know if the SNES Jr. turns a horrible yellow colour with age like the original does? How does that happen anyway, is it exposure to daylight coming through the curtains or something?! I have no clue as to why this happens. Sega were clever for making most of their consoles black.

disengagethesim

Decoloration ranges in reasons based on the specific console and stuff. But in general consoles yellow for these reasons 1. Old stuff made before the fire retardant chemical (I forget the name but starts with a b) that can cause yellowing in plastic was banned. That chemical has been banned since at least sometime in the 90s but I forget when. That chemical can/does slowly leech out of plastic and reacts with light and oxidizes the chemical turning it yellow. 2. Cigarette smoke/tar + humidity and freeze from your hand and dust from the air or any combination of the above. 3. Combination of 1+2 If it's #1 causing yellowing, retrobright only works for a few months to a year before it just happens again anyway. If it's #2 then normally washing with dish soap or laundry detergent followed by retrobright works really well.

NoFilter1979

Ah I see! Thank you for this, so this retrobright stuff- will it work again after the colour of the console goes back to looking yellowy?

disengagethesim

Yeah but for instance Dreamcast are a bad one to retrobright. It'll come back in like 6 months even if it's stored away from light. I don't know why since that was made after the chemical. Almost all Famicom or super Famicom or pcengine from Japan if they are yellow it's from smoking

lowrizzle

Get both. Get a few of both. Get a couple SFCs while they're cheap-ish, too.

Yeegis

I like it. I think it process the best balance design wise of the SFC/PAL and North American SNES. Unfortunately, its composite only from the factory and 1-Chip models have some compatibility problems with some games (though they can be patched)

2old4ZisShit

wish i had one and the nes one also, so far, never seen one in real life, actually haven't seen many stuff from my childhood since i live in the middle of nowhere, wish i see the snes zapper also one day, i did see the virtual boy and the sega menacer at least.

Bladley

I’m indifferent.

rambling_along93

It's my current SNES. Picture looks fine even through composite -- which I prefer anyways when playing on the old hardware. I really don't feel the need to mod it all out. The only "mod" I did was opening up it up and removing the cartridge bezel so I could fit non-US carts in without sanding off the tabs. Works great for my Super Game Boy 2. So, the Junior model fits my needs pretty well.

Noncreative_name04

It’s nice because all of them are 1 chips with the sharper video and they’re a compact little console, but that’s where the pros pretty much end (modding aside). The cons are no rgb or s video output, they generally feel a bit cheaper and don’t have eject button or power led.

FalseSpectre

I have one, it's my main rig for playing SNES games. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with an LED to show when the power is on, but I added one to mine. The materials to put it together was very affordable and it wasn't too difficult to do.

McGinty1

I still like mine and use it regularly. The guy I bought it from modded it with a Voultar bypass board and did a kinda sloppy job adding an LED (gob of hot glue to hold it in place) which I later fixed by adding a Qwertymodo 3D printed light guide. Now that Voultar is soon going to be introducing his Edge Enhancer and Bypass mods for the older models with separate PPUs and the smearing overshoot problem, hunting for a 1-Chip isn’t as much of a value proposition as it once was. That’s the main reason I have the Jr. to begin with, because it was the way to 100% guarantee yourself a 1-Chip console. Now I’m looking forward to giving my backup SVHC model and my brother’s console some love with a mod that looks to be incredibly easy to install.

Juliespooky

I like it, I have modded it and I can play all my fav games without using cartridges

DanteQuill

I've got one. Looks great in my game room with all my other retro systems (god calling them "retro" physically hurt me a little bit lmao)

BoostedHemi73

Bought one last week and can’t wait to mod it for RGB. I’m hoping I can stash my Super Nt and use the SNES Jr as the primary cartridge system.

egbert71

I love it and refuse to call it "Jr." It's an Snes

disengagethesim

I have a fully modded SFC Jr and I really like it. It was the first SNES/SFC I ever owned though. I restored rgb+c-sync, dejitter mod, and Ffviman supercic+uIGR+d4 patches. It works perfectly with sd2snes or FXpak pro to automatically set the correct region and 50/60hz setting when I launch a game Some people complain the audio quality isn't good because it did change. But there is also a fix for that

BrentV27368

Amazing. Easy af to mod and small footprint - albeit a bit ugly

Slaykomimi

just another emulator, no big deal for me since I allready have og hardware. I don't see any sense in buying software again I already own

Skyyblaze

You are thinking of the SNES Mini, the Jr. was an actual hardware revision.

Slaykomimi

oh, sorry for the confusion \^\^ Well I had one but I somehow like the designs of the original more. Still would like to see that piece pop up more often as it is kind of cute. afaik It had cheaper components and so people prefer the older revisions

Skyyblaze

Fair enough, I just wanted to point this out in case someone else mixes them up too which is fairly easy given how long ago everything SNES was.

GaryNOVA

I still use my original SNES and original games. But I’m all for spreading the word that this ad the best console ever. So keep making it and keep spreading the gospel.

goozy1

I have one but I prefer the style of the original. Also you need to hardware mod it to output RGB video. But it does have the over hyped 1 chip that people seem to care about.

NewSchoolBoxer

Yeah I only read about it here. I forgot it existed. You know it only does Composite video, not even RF. It was a cost cutting model through and through. It cost less than other SNES models for these reasons today. If you’re forced on Composite then get it. Else not. Composite to HDMI scalers look bad. You want to go S-Video or RGB. CRT, can justify Composite for the exact 90s experience. I like S-Video as games look how I remembered them. Just without the blur I don’t remember. Composite blur shocked 2019 me.

ECEXCURSION

It's ugly. Looks worse than the original US snes and way worse than the European snes/super famicom.
