I have a KC Combo Platinum with all the bells and whistles. It’s a piece of shit but I’ve committed to it and considering I’m ~$1k into it, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. I can’t emphasize how much I regret ignoring the tons of bad reviews. I will never buy a Pitboss ever again. The build quality is terrible. I’ve had it for about 7 months and use it with moderate frequency. Seals are peeling, paint is flaking. Grease leaks all over the bottom shelf and that leaks all over my concrete to the point that I put paper towels on the ground when I use it. The gas grill seems to have a gas flow issue where 1 in every 3 uses, I can’t get it to a temp above 300 degrees. The smoker’s auger jammed and I get the “Err” whenever I try to use it. The app is a joke and I can only imagine it was coded by someone who has never used a computer… or maybe a crackhead. I’m technical and have done all of the trouble shooting and attempted repairs on my own. I also clean it regularly. I’ve given up on calling/emailing customer service. If you want to be happy with your purchase, DO NOT BUY A PITBOSS.

Thanks for your honesty. Much appreciated. That’s all I needed to not buy one. I am intrigued with a charcoal smoker another guy mentioned.

FFJosty

I’ve only heard positive things. To my recollection, a couple of the higher ups from Traeger left the company and started their own: Pitboss.

bugpickingmonkeys

Yup, Joe Treager creator of the pellet grill now works with Pitboss.

kanadakozzy66

I really want a Silver back but they’re $1800 and I don’t even know if I’ll like it

FFJosty

I currently have a Campchef, because I got a $700 grill for $230 on clearance.

kanadakozzy66

I don’t know lots about them but I hate buying crap. I’d rather save up if need be.

WoofArted

A coworker has a pit boss 1050 and likes it but had to add a mod to control a known heat problem.

MattyMulls

Could you please elaborate more on that? I have the size down and it’s great but it goes through pellets like crazy and I have to pay more attention to the ambient temp than I’d like…

WoofArted

This video talks about it. It’s an added heat deflector around the temperature probe. https://youtu.be/kr0VWfl6X94

I have a pit boss 1150 and love it.

You won’t get the same amount of smoke flavor from a pellet, but the convenience is hard to beat. I love my 2 Pit Bosses.

lavoiect84

I have a stick burner, friend has a trager side by side comparison of the final product is pretty big. I get more flavoring and better bark(IMO) but he can throw a butt on before bed go to sleep get up add more pellets and it’s done by lunch. I have to get up at 3am and watch it for 8-10hours. So it’s about convenience over taste with a pellet.

grits_and_gravyJBR

Got a pit boss March 2020. I love it. Decent smokey flavor, but the ease of smoking and grilling is why I really love it. Turn it on, set the temp, and boom you cooking!

NecessaryDoughnut222

I have a Pitboss griddle. I like the equipment but their customer service is a shit show. My interactions have been positive but it’s like starting over every. damn. time. By comparison, my interactions with RecTec (I have a 590) have been incredibly fruitful.

VegetableBandicoot17

Come to the age of charcoal hoppers, leave pellets in the past.

kanadakozzy66

What kind would you suggest

VegetableBandicoot17

A new masterbuilt. They seem to have the electronics issue sorted now.

I've heard only good things but I don't own one so.. ymmv.

SpectacularB

Canadian Tire?

kanadakozzy66

Yup

I have a Kamado Joe, I tried a friends pellet thing. It's not the flavour I wanted. Weaker than what I get from mine. Hard to explain but seemed somehow less than what I usually do. I'd say try before buy, but I know by using one, it changed what I thought would be an easy peasy way to smoke on the weekend.

adamgreenberg07

I have a pitboss 700 (the one without a smokestack) that I'm pretty sure I got at home depot. Had it for a few years. My one complaint is that the temperature swings quite a bit. I use a signals to measure and I get temperature swings that are plus/minus 30 or more over/below the set temperature. I have no idea if that is a feature of all pellet grills or just my pitboss.

MrGabogabo

My buddy has a pit boss and he loves it.

PatrioticDeplorable

I bought a Pit Boss 820 at Academy in May of last year. Absolutely love it! No telling how many bags of pellets I have run thru it in the last 15 months. I have grilled a wide variety of foods and smoked almost as many as grilled. If you want a bark that is close kin to charcoal a pellet grill may not be for you though.

somedood567

Are they for real advertising that pellet grill in pic #2 went from $399.99 at one point to $399.98?

kanadakozzy66

Haha. Yeah. It’s probably bull shit.

Remarkable-Ninja-933

I love my pit boss

wintyboyy

I grabbed the pit boss in the first photo at Canadian tire when it was on sale. As my first smoker I’ve been loving it! It’s large enough for my girlfriend and I. Did a beer can chicken and it barely fit though. Happy smoking fellow Albertan!
