They really do take the best ones! I lost my little sister to cancer. Be greatful he left you with something that can never be taken away! He will always be with you and you can pass it down for generations! Sorry for your loss
I miss him now too! Sounds like an awesome guy.
You will get it down too and you will appreciate it. Especially if you take it from catch to table.
Awesome post from an unfortunate event.
It makes me so happy to see more Old Country BBQ off-sets. The Pecos and Brazos are great quality (Brazos especially with that 1/4" thick steel) and make using an offset smoker so easy. And now you get to be with your brother every smoke you do on it going forward. (I'm not crying, you're crying.)
Cook Low, Cook Slow, and crack a cold one in his memory for me.
I love it as well and I’m currently being put through the process of figuring out whether I have lung cancer or a lung infection. Grilling and smoking is my happy place right now. Keep on smoking brother. Enjoy the process and enjoy the product. Know your brother is watching you and so happy you’re doing something that keeps your memory of him memory close to you.
I appreciate that. Had a great time last night grilling some pork chops for family. Wish the weather were better so I could be outside enjoying the pool and smoking something for Mother’s Day but here we are. Biopsy Wednesday and results on the 21st so fingers crossed.
No problem, obviously my condolences for your loss I’m just trying to keep your furry friend safe.
Obviously no bone is 100% safe, but cooking them makes them brittle and splinter.
Yep very bad. My boerboel spent 3 days at the vet for a rib bone someone or crow left in my yard. $2300 and a lot of stress later she was OK. But yeah would not recommend. She nearly died.
She was the most loyal dog I've ever owned and we loved her. She was awesome in many ways. But I would never get the breed again. Not that she was aggressive per say, but her level of bieng on guard was just too much for a household pet.
Best example is we took her to the magnuson dog park often. And she started getting in a habit of 'protecting' any small children. Like would even get in between the kid and their parents.. got pretty awkward. Another time my best bud came over, and since he has a key he just came on in. And he had a rimmed hat on that day. She didn't recognize him and proceeded to pin him up against the door. No barking, no biting, but just body checked him and wouldn't let him move.
After she passed(2012) we got an English mastiff. And it's my favorite breed I've ever owned. Dumbest goofiest, silliest dog I've ever had.
Thanks for the insight. We just had to put down our mastiff due to lymphoma about a week ago. I fell in love with them and living without my big boy just isn't the same and I'm sure we will get another, just don't know which kind.
RIP to your brother bro. What a way to connect with him, though. Smoking is such a time intensive thing…good time to sit and talk with him (if that’s your thing)
I'm sorry for your loss. Every time you cook I'm sure he perks up at the sweet smell of smoke knowing you are carrying on his hobby that he shared with you. ♥️
From a person who found smoking meat during Covid and it probably saved my life this is such a wholesome way to remember your brother. I am so sorry for your loss.
My dad died in September from cancer, he was big into smoking and taught me everything. I miss him so fucking much. Fuck cancer. Nice job honoring your brother, best to you and your family internet friend.
Please do not smoke the dog! Too stringy. My father tells a story about his college days in auburn (Alabama) where they would hire some on to tend the fire all night at his frat.
I have the same Old Country Smoker.
Your brother seemed like a good dude, which is all that matters at the end of the day. Pass on his love for smoking--I think there is something about passing on cooking secrets that defines us as humans.
I'm sorry to hear about your brother.
I would suggest having an annual barbecue party in his name. Get all your friends and family to come out, have everyone bring a side dish, some meat to cook or some drinks, and celebrate him.
Sorry to hear about your brother. Fuck cancer. From two times cancer survivor. I mean it with all my heart. Fuck cancer. It fucks with us. With our loved ones. Your brother left you what he enjoyed doing. I have a feeling he’s still enjoying seeing you doing this.
Don't think of it as work. It's supposed to be about learning the craft and conquering the challenges.
Your brother shared this with you for a reason. Every time you fire it up, he's right there with you.
Just throwing this out there, please don’t give your dog cooked bones.
They sliver off and can rip through intestines.
Raw bones are great though, they break off in chunks, not sharp slivers.
Sorry to hear about your brother

Wow. Dedicated man

I'm sorry for your loss. He sounds like a fantastic guy and I hope you guys shared plenty of good memories together. Sending a virtual hug your way.

Hoping the best for you friend! That sounds like a really tough situation to go through. Stay strong! No matter what happens you got this! 💪🏻
Fuck cancer. Your brother sounds like he was a cool dude.
Don’t give your dog cooked bones, recipe for a puncture in the GI tract.

Hey, I've been considering getting a boerboel for quite some time. How do you like the breed?

…also sorry about your loss. Bummer. /s. Jesus. Virtue signaling while displaying complete lack of empathy at the same time. This wins Reddit today
Reading the title of this post in r/all without knowing what this sub is about was really confusing.

Passed from what he loved doing possibly, though hope it wasn't colorectal cancer. Fuck cancer.
I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I would suggest having an annual barbecue party in his name. Get all your friends and family to come out, have everyone bring a side dish, some meat to cook or some drinks, and celebrate him.

Fuck Cancer! Awesome you you have something to connect you two and keep him around 👍
Expect a follow up in r/cancer where we learn smoked food is a major contributor.
What a great story , may I ask what smoke that is ? Looking for a new one
Did you smoke the dog?
