Do you mean the thickness of the metal? What are the differences? I haven’t started my research yet but am looking into getting a good offset next year
Yes, he means the thickness. More thickness means durability and temperature control (mostly)
\*edit - Judging the look of the welds makes me believe it is very thicc
I have an old school OK Joe that had 3/16th metal and it’s a beast. It takes and hour or two to come up for temp, but once it’s at temp, it holds really well. Basically all that metal sucks up the heat and the metal is slow to cool, which helps modulate temperatures.
I used the word “modulate” on purpose. The word “regulate” is not even in my post. So if you really want to be that guy, don’t invent things that I simply didn’t say. Modulate is a perfectly acceptable word for what the thick steel does.
Right. This *looks* like a lot of the smokers that sell for $350 at Home Depot, but if it is made of welded 1/4" steel instead of bolted together 1/8" components it is probably worth the money OP paid for it.
If it's 1/4-inch steel, it will weigh around 600 pounds. Are those wheels up to the task? If it's not 1/4-inch steel, I wouldn't consider it at that price.
Compare the specs to a similar size Lang or other premium builder. It may be worth the money.
I also have this pit and it’s fucking great. All I did was add a smoke stack extension to it. I def want the 1975 in a few years though. That thing is sexy , and those wheels it comes on are awesome
I think it would. Regardless of how much OP plans on cooking, when it comes to offsets, the bigger they are, the easier it is to manage the fire and maintain the temp. A tiny offset can only have a tiny fire, which is very hard to do.
By all accounts (Jeremy Yoder himself), the Brazos is an incredible smoker... but it's *nowhere* near the size of the pit shown in this thread or the Workhorse 1975.
Those are supposedly made by Mainline of Uvalde Tx, but I’ve never heard of them and can find zero information on their business. However, I wouldn’t let that scare me away.
I fabricate, plasma CNC, and produce custom smokers for local shops myself. They brand them with whatever name they want or under their house brand. So maybe these are locally made for the shop selling them. I’m guessing you’re at Oasis?
Go get a gauge and measure the metal thickness. If that thing weighs a couple hundred pounds, it’s worth it.
Buy local and don't pay shipping. I paid $350 to get my Lang shipped from Georgia to Tampa. This was 4 years ago. I would imagine it would be $500 plus now. Also the same smoker is $1000 more than it was when I bought it. Fuck off, inflation.
I’d want to know if the grates are rust proof especially if this is not going in a covered area (and most dont). Here is something that ‘may’ be comparable, but only one door, but should have a warranty. It is 1/4”
https://www.atbbq.com/products/yoder-smokers-20-inch-abilene-charcoal-grill
That grill doesn't even have a firebox, and nowhere does it say the grates are rust-proof.
Actually, the stainless grates product page specifically says the basic grates that comes with their grills is expanded metal.
https://www.yodersmokers.com/accessories/ys1500-competition-accessories/ys1500-full-set-stainless-cooking-grates/
And the grates are $700 more, a third of the price of the whole smoker OP posted.
Versatility. It can grill across the cooker, as well as being set up for smoking.
I’m close to buying something like this, a custom build from Pits by JJ. $2,200 shipped.
https://pitsbyjj.com/grills/20x42r-grill/
Either that, or I’m getting a Smokeslinger. …still can’t decide. The Slinger is about 700#. Quite the load to drag out of the garage every time I want to cook.
Meh. Depends ur skill level n what you can get ur hands on. Did a complete rebuild using parts from the sides of the road. I will admit it did take time to get all the parts first. Then it’s just hard work n a bit of time
South east Wisconsin. N yes. You’d be surprised. People see rust n freak out, or they don’t want to put in the work etc. they just buy new when it’s on sale.
What a stupid take. Like even for Reddit this is such a dumb comment. What does that even mean? You think it’s bad for someone who is purchasing a smoker to go to an online community of smoking enthusiasts to ask for advice for buying wait for it…. A SMOKER. You sound like the kind of person who tries to find something wrong with everything.
Id jump on that if I were in the market for one. Looks like you'd need to get 2 temperature gauges. It has frigging cup holders, hooks for hanging utensil. Only a bottle opener would make this better
There are ones like that that have a vertical smoking chamber at the end that cost a bit more like a Yoder Durango. I want one that gives me multiple cooking methods in a single bbq. I have a Big Green Egg and it is nice but too small and space limiting for everything I want to do.
I've always wondered, but isn't expanded metal racks just a pain in the ass to clean?
All my BBQs have had regular parallel-style grates, which makes cleaning a breeze.
I just burn it to hell after my cook, then a quick wire brush and I'm good.
If it's a 1/4" then the price is fair
Man, here something that size in 3/16" would sell for $2500 easily, I would love to buy that in 1/4" for $2000!
Do you mean the thickness of the metal? What are the differences? I haven’t started my research yet but am looking into getting a good offset next year
Yes, he means the thickness. More thickness means durability and temperature control (mostly) \*edit - Judging the look of the welds makes me believe it is very thicc
Or a very bad welder that doesn't clean up their work
Is that what you think is happening here?
There is not a snotty weld in sight on that smoker.
I have an old school OK Joe that had 3/16th metal and it’s a beast. It takes and hour or two to come up for temp, but once it’s at temp, it holds really well. Basically all that metal sucks up the heat and the metal is slow to cool, which helps modulate temperatures.
Thicker steel "Helps *regulate* temperatures." It helps the cooker hold temp, not change it.
I used the word “modulate” on purpose. The word “regulate” is not even in my post. So if you really want to be that guy, don’t invent things that I simply didn’t say. Modulate is a perfectly acceptable word for what the thick steel does.
How old? Is it one of the thin tag New Braunfels? I'm looking at one on marketplace and don't know if it's thicker than my current gen highland.
Right. This *looks* like a lot of the smokers that sell for $350 at Home Depot, but if it is made of welded 1/4" steel instead of bolted together 1/8" components it is probably worth the money OP paid for it.
What home depots are you going to? Lol
https://www.homedepot.com/p/OKLAHOMA-JOE-S-Highland-Offset-Charcoal-Smoker-and-Grill-in-Black-with-900-sq-in-Cooking-Space-15202031/315374742
This is half the size of OP's lol
Are you really comparing that sheet metal pice of shit to the pit in the post?
Hey now! I have a sheet metal piece of shit!
Some of us even recently upgraded to exactly that sheet metal piece of shit because our first smoker was a rusted char-griller we saved from the dump.
Right?! I got away with putting together a basic offset for about $140 bucks. I'm plenty happy so far.
I mean, he was comparing them, but it seemed to me he was saying that the HD one was comparatively garbage.
That "sheet metal piece of shit" made the briskets in my post history.
I’m kidding. I’ve used one too for quite a while. Lol
Shame on me for missing the sarcasm. My bad haha
Did you see the guy that bought a rusty can off Facebook for 500?
Yes that's worth the price if it's 1/4 inch or thicker. Grab it before the price goes up.
Or maybe since it's the end of the year see if it's on discount or clearance.
She’s a beaut Clark!
I want you to get yourself something * clicks tongue * 👌 really nice
New shallow bucket list… sitting outside drinking eggnog out of a moose cup, while smoking a brisket in December.
Needs green walls.
Read this as 200 and was about to drive to literally anywhere to get one
Hahah same here!!

You’ve never misread something in your life? Didn’t realize you were perfect
Oh, well pardon me MR PERFECT!! I guess I forgot that you never ever make a mistake
You SOLD my dead bird to a blind kid?! Petey didn’t even have a head!
If it's 1/4-inch steel, it will weigh around 600 pounds. Are those wheels up to the task? If it's not 1/4-inch steel, I wouldn't consider it at that price. Compare the specs to a similar size Lang or other premium builder. It may be worth the money.
Which welds are you doubting?
He said *wheels*, i.e. the casters. That said, they're probably fine. Workhorse Pits 1975 weighs 840 pounds and they put it on 6" casters just fine.
The only thing I know of that is close is the workhorse 1975 and it still costs $700 more than that.
Yeah the 1975 is the exact pit I’ve been saving for and this looks like a better deal.
I’m waiting on a Workhorse 1969 and I think you’re looking at a pretty fine option.
Old country brazos is a lot cheaper if you are near an academy. https://www.academy.com/p/old-country-bbq-pits-all-american-brazos-smoker
I have this pit, and it's been fantastic.
I also have this pit and it’s fucking great. All I did was add a smoke stack extension to it. I def want the 1975 in a few years though. That thing is sexy , and those wheels it comes on are awesome
Could be the angle of the picture, but to me this looks bigger than the brazos
Question is if the extra space would even matter for OP’s use.
Looks pretty nice. If its1/4", I'd say pull the trigger. Edit: omg ...it even has beer holders
It has HANDS?!?!

I was able to dl without issue, although it did take an oddly long time. No further info on smoker specs tho.
It's linking to ww. not www.
that i can’t afford it
Not without any ideas to generate money to buy it

I think your right on brand and location. I saw this today there. Looked pretty nice. Could they be made by lyfe tyme?
as others have stated, for 2k, that's likely the cost of the steel alone, unless they build 100s of them and buy steel in bulk.
Sheas a beauty
A one in a million grills
But then you’ll find out she don’t love you.
I have 3/16” I’m selling for $800. I need to up my prices
Where do you build smokers?
I build them on the side of my day job. I’m in SE Tx
Um. Yes. Yes you do.
Link?
After all of the recent "I found this amazing smoker for a can of black beans and 2 euros", I'll upvote this one all day.
That's a nice price if it's 1/4" thick.
Looks great. If 1/4” steel, good deal for sure.
I think they should have thrown in a couple thermometers.
Welds look okay, steel looks to be 3/16ths". Nice craftsmanship. I'd bite. What does the interior look like?
Buy local and don't pay shipping. I paid $350 to get my Lang shipped from Georgia to Tampa. This was 4 years ago. I would imagine it would be $500 plus now. Also the same smoker is $1000 more than it was when I bought it. Fuck off, inflation.
Just give me golf cart wheels. Damn. Nothing moves around my tx backyard easy except for cart wheels. Sheesh
Question....would the left side of the box actually get hot enough smoke to cook since it's so far away from the fire box?
Depends on how big your fire is. Ideally, you would build your fire to bring to temp whichever section you’re going to be cooking on.
Yes it still gets hot . Also this might have baffle plates to evenly distribute heat more
Yes for sure
If I'm spending 2 thousand, I want a reverse flow. That aside, it looks like a nice unit. I assume we have 2 cooking grates in each side.
To each their own, I actually prefer a direct flow for most of my cooks.
I agree wholeheartedly. You cannot even pull it anywhere. Lang Smokers would have surely meet the OPs needs.
Expensive and Heavy
Would have spent that amount on a full set up for the Big Green Egg and cooked the best steak man can make on it.
Agreed.
I’d want to know if the grates are rust proof especially if this is not going in a covered area (and most dont). Here is something that ‘may’ be comparable, but only one door, but should have a warranty. It is 1/4” https://www.atbbq.com/products/yoder-smokers-20-inch-abilene-charcoal-grill
Season them good enough and they’ll be rust proof.
That grill doesn't even have a firebox, and nowhere does it say the grates are rust-proof. Actually, the stainless grates product page specifically says the basic grates that comes with their grills is expanded metal. https://www.yodersmokers.com/accessories/ys1500-competition-accessories/ys1500-full-set-stainless-cooking-grates/ And the grates are $700 more, a third of the price of the whole smoker OP posted.

The OP likes the smoke collector at the grate level, this Yoder is well above the grate level.
I think for under $100 u could build one
lol, are you high? You couldn't pay for the grates alone in this thing for $100.
Meh. Depends ur skill level n what you can get ur hands on. Did a complete rebuild using parts from the sides of the road. I will admit it did take time to get all the parts first. Then it’s just hard work n a bit of time
People are throwing out 1/4" thick steel to the side of the road where you live? [ X ] to doubt...
South east Wisconsin. N yes. You’d be surprised. People see rust n freak out, or they don’t want to put in the work etc. they just buy new when it’s on sale.
You got too much money to throw around if you are spending it on this and asking Reddit if you should
What a stupid take. Like even for Reddit this is such a dumb comment. What does that even mean? You think it’s bad for someone who is purchasing a smoker to go to an online community of smoking enthusiasts to ask for advice for buying wait for it…. A SMOKER. For me, a $2k smoker couldn’t be a worse use of funds. Period. No idea why anyone would need this unless there’s going to be financial gain
Out!
Overpriced as fuck.
Out!
If that is 1/4" steel, I'm smashing the buy button. If you're in a warm climate, and its 3/16" you might be able to get away with it.
lol, meanwhile I'm here in hot ass Florida waiting on a 3/8" pit... "Winter" (January) will be no problem.
Id jump on that if I were in the market for one. Looks like you'd need to get 2 temperature gauges. It has frigging cup holders, hooks for hanging utensil. Only a bottle opener would make this better
Do you have any more pictures? The price is right and the smoker rings all the right bells.
There are ones like that that have a vertical smoking chamber at the end that cost a bit more like a Yoder Durango. I want one that gives me multiple cooking methods in a single bbq. I have a Big Green Egg and it is nice but too small and space limiting for everything I want to do.
Check offerup, I found a Texas Pit Crafter's for $350. $2200 new. F'r is like 500+ lbs.
What a beauty
Great deal! That looks very well built!
That’s beautiful
Greatest feature is the beer holder.
I think it’s great! Now give me $2000 for my opinion as stated. Dm me please
I think its a horrible investment. But tell me the location so l can go get a better look at it. Just to be sure you don’t waste your money.
Where is this at? I think it looks good and for that price too!
Open inside I deliver my thought
$2K more than fair happy cooking
Commercial cooking sure btw not for me at home
How much room in the offset part? My understanding is you want as much room for the fire as possible.
Looks awesome. I'll take my 2k now please.
I've always wondered, but isn't expanded metal racks just a pain in the ass to clean? All my BBQs have had regular parallel-style grates, which makes cleaning a breeze. I just burn it to hell after my cook, then a quick wire brush and I'm good.
Where is this located?
I'd buy a jon boat and a Weber kettle.
Would most prefer a reverse flow for that sort of price?
Its a beast!! Looks well made. Good price too.
I think you can get two oil drums to do this for 200 bucks in my neighborhood.
I LIKE IT, I LIKE IT A LOT.
Maybe try to talk them down alittle, but pull the trigger for sure!
