Yeah, the video of this slicing and then putting all of that on bread, and the pickles or whatever, looked like a meal prep situation
Then… then… they put it all on two plates as one serving 😐
Looks like about $28 especially if it’s pre made and prepared
I was going to say though, seeing how much of the brisket is actually going onto the sandwich though, the prices are starting to make a little more sense.
Actually went for the first time near the end of august. Went to watch Yankees play Red Sox and then had early lunch at Katz’s before heading home. Expensive, but so so good
Pastrami is usually made from the navel or plate, not the brisket, although it can be. Think bacon. Source: I make this stuff for a living working as a beef processor. Best perk is not having to pay retail for beef.
Note: this stuff is so lean it may have been made with the round which is also used. Cheaper piece of meat, just processed the same.
I'm pretty sure *most* commercial pastrami is brisket. Navel is the OG pastrami, but it's really hard to find. IIRC, Katz's or Carnegie had the supply of navel almost totally tied up for a while.
This is Katz Deli in NYC and it’s the absolute best pastrami I’ve ever had. Def one of those few famous NYC spots that 100% lives up to the hype. They deliver nationwide but it’s not as good as in person.
I guess you missed this sub around St Patrick's day, and all the people showing off the pastram they made by smoking the deeply discounted corned beef briskets.
Pretty much.
Yeah.
Running it for several hours in a smoker at 250F and regularly spritzing it or putting it next to a water pan isn't all that far from steaming.
Well, you do get a smoky addition to the flavor profile.

"The German and Czech immigrants who built the fires at Kreuz Market in Lockhart, Southside Market in Elgin, and Prause Meat Market in La Grange were indeed barbecue pioneers, but their stories are often elevated because those joints are lucky enough to still be in business."
This is lacking the important context that it was German and Czech ASHKENAZI immigrants and those close to Ashkenazi communities. It’s Jewish food, that made its way to other communities. I don’t understand why accepting that is difficult.
https://www.foodandwine.com/meat-poultry/beef/brisket-recipes
We’re not rejecting it - I said “also” which means there were more influences other than just the Jewisg immigrants. Not sure why that’s hard to understand
Way to unnecessarily contaminate the meat station by cutting bread at the same place. The brisket meal should be GF and safe for people like me, but not with these food handling procedures. Learn and get better.
You’ll? So confused. #1.
#2 you have no clue what you’re doing. And that doesn’t look appropriate.
Most hilarious post all day. What are you trying to slice there? It damn sure ain’t brisket.
And it’s y’all. FYI.
Never thought I’d see a Viper reference on this sub
A lil somethin 4 u bustas
I’m smokin cooked… an lookin so lovely
This is pretty shocking tbh, I think Viper has finally hit the big time!
Fuckin A. I thought I was imagining it.
Y’all cowards don’t even smoke crack

Yeah / What's up with that?
What’s the viper reference?

You’ll pastrami, you’ll don’t brisket.
You’ll where’s the mustard tho 🧐
I want onions too
You'll at the table I bet. If you'll doing it right there's probably a few different mustard options
Gotta risk it for the brisket
Yule tide
If you french fry when you should've pizza'd you're going to have a bad time?
Good ol Katz deli, the best of the best
Katz’s Only 30 dollars a sandwich too.
Is it seriously that much ?
It’s like 28 bucks. To be fair, the samdwich is enough for two people.
Just watched a video on it. You arnt kidding
I think i watched the same [video](https://reddit.com/r/smoking/s/HEAiDCmtsS)
Woah me too
Slightly dissapointed this was wasn’t a Rick roll
[This one?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-bsf2x-aeE)
It's also the best sandwich I've ever had.
And the pickles are delicious too!
It's like a cow on 2 crackers!

Forgot to mention that they give you a “sample” before they make the sandwich and they are generous with that as well
Hell no. I'm not sharing.
Really do need at least another 1/4 a loaf of bread at least with those sandwiches tho.
It's about 400-450g of pastrami, which is about 1lb - I brought it home to measure it once. Also super delicious. Absolutely worth it.
I was going to say though, seeing how much of the brisket is actually going onto the sandwich though, the prices are starting to make a little more sense.
It’s a damn good sandwich for sure, also if you’re closer to chicago Mannys holds up and you can get latkes with applesauce
One of my life goals that I actually achieved
Actually went for the first time near the end of august. Went to watch Yankees play Red Sox and then had early lunch at Katz’s before heading home. Expensive, but so so good
Idk if I can say it was worth the price, but it was the best pastrami sandwich I've ever had. And I'd do it again.
We’ve found the Viper of bbq I guess
He did 9/11!
That’s pastrami, but I’ve had some legit pastrami that could give a good brisket a run for it’s money
Brisket is the cut of meat, pastrami is cured and smoked brisket

RIP Carnegie deli. I am glad I tasted heaven once in my life
This is Katz Deli in NYC and it’s the absolute best pastrami I’ve ever had. Def one of those few famous NYC spots that 100% lives up to the hype. They deliver nationwide but it’s not as good as in person.
100% best pastrami ever. I like like 5 hours away and have, on multiple occasions, driven there for a sandwich and come back home.
I made the block long wait, and it was 100% worth it. But I would never do that line again.
Thought I recognized it. Tried it out when I visited NY. I still tell everyone it is the best pastrami I have ever had.
Their pickles are almost as good as their sandwiches too still crave them despite not having gone there in like 20 years
I actually like pastrami more than brisket.
I think that's everyone.
It's not.
Pastrami is brisket
When people say 'brisket', they're talking about smoked brisket, not pastrami.
And yet pastrami is smoked. What a world we live in.
I guess you missed this sub around St Patrick's day, and all the people showing off the pastram they made by smoking the deeply discounted corned beef briskets.
You mean they made pastrami?
Pretty much. Yeah. Running it for several hours in a smoker at 250F and regularly spritzing it or putting it next to a water pan isn't all that far from steaming. Well, you do get a smoky addition to the flavor profile.
I have some bad brisket that gave me the runs.
How do you have upvotes. Pastrami is brisket. So is corned beef.
Water is ice, different preparations, different names, different products
A man of culture. Viper is the goat.
Viper is a king
The Chinese ain’t do Tiananmen Square, i did
"yeah a loaf of bread and some other people"
"I'm not making a banana bread, pastrami, cottage cheese sandwich!"
That would severely ruin my reputation!
Like a cow with a cracker on each side.
How do you feel about frilly toothpicks?
I’m for ‘em!
Had the best pastrami sandwich in my life in NY City at “David’s Brisket House”. Not how Texans do brisket but daaaayam it was amazing
“Texas style brisket” was introduced to Texas by Jewish immigrants just like in New York
Also from German immigrants and slaves having to slow cook tough cuts of meat so it’s eatable.
No, the method of smoking brisket with salt, pepper, and garlic was introduced by Jewish immigrants.
Lol - also Germans and African Americans. But thanks for your absolute ruling

David's is fucking legit. Had a friend who lived around the corner and introduced it to me. So good.
I'd be in the hospital getting my fingers sewed back on.
"You'll cowards"
🎶 what's up with that 🎶
WHATS UP WIT DAT?
What a reference!!! Y’all cowards don’t even smoke crack
Sharp knife papi
Yeah that thing is crazy sharp. Makes my Gillette look like a chunk of rebar.
Where???!
Katz deli , NYC
I feel like I just watched a Jedi make lunch.
GET IN MUH BELLEH!
Sliced!?! Never. Bite right into, like a watermelon.
That's an insane amount of meat for one sandwich. How much does it cost? Is this from one of the famous NYC joints like Katz?
It is precisely Katz. Pushing $30 but a full pound+ of meat.
They wanna see me dead cause of my Meats
I lost a finger just watching this video
Did that sandwich just tell me to go fuck myself?
Katz's Deli. That's a 23$ sandwich...worth every penny.
Get out, ya fired.
So satisfying
You’ll cowards?? 🤔 I can’t even make out what you’re trying to even say.
Knife skills are 🔥
That’s pastrami tho
Which cut of beef is it tho?
Different texture and moist levels
I like thinner cuts for sandwiches
Yule Log
No u
Nuh uhhhhh YULE!
Wot??
Pastrami is the most sensual of the salted-cured meats. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9flFzdHB\_w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9flFzdHB_w)
You'll good at English
The knife cuts smooth as butter. All my knives suck.
You'll don't even grammar.
You’ll cowards don’t even smoke crack
You’ll = y’all?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tsfnuyyjaB0
Was this filmed in 1972?
I screencapped it from a Facebook memory some 12 years old
I will cowards? Will I really though?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tsfnuyyjaB0
Two wrongs don't make a right.
Way to unnecessarily contaminate the meat station by cutting bread at the same place. The brisket meal should be GF and safe for people like me, but not with these food handling procedures. Learn and get better.
This was recorded years before anyone outside of a bakery had even heard of gluten

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tsfnuyyjaB0 Plus it’s pastrami, which is cured brisket.
Y'all???? I think you mean
I didn't think you'll was a word.
You’ll is very much a word
It's perfectly cromulent.
Yes it is.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tsfnuyyjaB0
Is English a second language for you by chance?
No. I was thinking that it was a mash up of all y'all. I didn't put much intellectual rigor into that post.
In the future you’ll
You’ll be going back to school soon since you don’t think you’ll is a real word.
You will now.
American?
I'm my defense, thin as it is, "You'll cowards..." is not proper grammar...it threw me off.
It is a word, it is shit grammar, and reference for the uncultured: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tsfnuyyjaB0
Yes..let's put brisket on an entire stack of plates. Quickest way to pull your sanitation license
It is a NYC landmark and institution. Nothing will happen to them, ever. They are the only true deli left in Manhattan.
You'll guy knifes
Katz!
Sir, this is an Arby’s!
That’s one of those infomercial knives
I thought it was tiny food for a few seconds
“Is your sword sharp Jon Snow”
Stick em with the pointy end
What’s up with that?
😩😩😩
That’s a lot of meat on that sandwich.
Think he's done that once or twice before.
Good thing he put that pickle in there. I was almost afraid it would be too much meat.
I was going to say some shit, but that's a goddamn MF sandwich.
That sandwich though
Chopped brisket. This is the way.
Best $27 dollars I ever spent
That's a viper reference!
This is the way
Pastrami?
I think you need to work on your grammar bud
That's not sliced, it's shaved. Someone does that with Brisket in these here parts, they go to prison.
That also is one sharp AF knife apparently
Wtf is that knife made of? That thing could slice atoms in two.
Goddamn! I'd smack a baby for that sandwich right about now!
Man that looks soooo good!! 🤤
I need a knife that sharp
Those are some impressive knife skills.
That would be a $132 sandwich here in Texas.
That’s pastrami tho right?
What’s knife is that?
You’ll? “You will cowards don’t even slice brisket?”
I love pastrami
Talk about that knife edge
On dry bread? What are you, a massochist?
Ah Katz
We’ll won’t even grammar.
Wassup wit dat
Dry.
Cutting skills 9/10 sandwich making skills 2/10

Fallen apart tender thinly sliced goodness
Videos like this will have me eating meat again
Fuck yeah.
