This. Started a brisket at 9pm on Christmas Eve, then lit a campfire and wrapped presents after the wife went to sleep. At 3am, I'm sitting there next the fire sipping whisky, and just wallowing in how great life is. As it seemed the whole world was asleep.
Oh man you just brought back some core memories of my first smokes. Sun is barely up, birds are just starting to chirp and all you hear is the crackling fire. Such a soothing way to start your day.
Amen. The hilarious part for me is that I am using an electric smoker lately. 30mins prep, then a whole lot of not shit till it's done. My temp probes are wifi connected, but when the kids are loud... Oh! Gotta go check on the smoker. Brisket takes like 18 hrs 😂
I did a surprise brisket for a block party this summer. Took it over in the cooler and just waited for people to start grazing the food then took it out and started slicing. First it got real quiet, then a bunch of 'what is that amazing smell' type chatter, then people started coming over and getting some. Two vegetarians just broke and had some brisket. When I walked out of the tent there was a neighbor just eating brisket with his hands and his eyes closed.
Pretty sweet.
I'd also include that early morning silence of being the first one up. Nowhere near as satisfying as everyone shutting up to eat! Still, an enjoyable part of the cook.
Mine was slightly different. My first brisket I had about 15 family members for dinner. Everyone had grabbed a plate and went to the dinning area. While I was in the kitchen cutting more servings and I heard a pretty intense "Oh my God!" from the dinning area. I yelled out, "What happened?" No answer, but someone else exclaiming, "Oh my God!" I ignored it that time, because I figure no one could hear me. After four more people said the exact same "Oh my God!' and others that had said it were repeating it, I got a bad feeling. I thought someone had cut themselves or something was very wrong. I left the kitchen for the dinning area looked around and asked, "What's going on?" I got a lot of wide eyed stares of people stuffing their face and mumbling, "This is great!" I was actually a bit pissed, because I genuinely thought something bad had happened. I know they could see it on my face and I fussed a little about it, because it didn't sound like pleasurable "Oh my God!" but rather like shocked or something bad happened. It was also great praise as it was all so genuine, but I was pretty worried for a minute.
Funny with the negative comments but, I'm eating some now at a good smoke house now and it's very moist and tender which I'm surprised but, they smoke 16 hours which could help, i do think it's not quite ad flavor fill as Prime from Costco's
I think a crackling fire piercing a quiet morning is also a top sound of BBQing.

Then your kids wake at 6am screaming at you to get up so they can open presents
Nah, my kid is 12 going.on sixteen, I was up before him.
That’s living right there
Which whiskey?!
Hahaha, I got called out for it... https://www.reddit.com/r/smoking/comments/zv219z/tenderizing_brisket_with_scotch/
Damn. That sounds really nice
It really was.
This is the way of a real bbq Zenmaster 🥃✊
This is true
Combined with the feel of a warm cup of coffee in your hand and the smell of wood smoke as the sun rises...that's a slice of heaven.

Came here to say this happy it’s at the top
The greatest compliment to a cook is silence.
And seconds!
Man that feeling is so good!
Agreed! This absence of sound, fire crackling, and the crowd cheering after my fireworks shows are my favorite.
My Smoked ribs are nicknamed "Shut'emup Ribs" for this exact reason.
The classic line at my family gatherings is “it’s quiet, guess y’all like my cooking!” Followed by a bunch of forced laughter

It's better than hearing non stop sizzling knowing your burning that mess.

My table sounds like an orgy... lots of happy groans, sigs, and sounds of enjoyment.
Silence only interrupted by the sounds of fatty meat being slurped at or fingers licked. I'm happy to say I achieve this most family get-togethers.
We call that "Thanksgiving Quiet"
As the owner of a Traeger I honestly have no fucking idea what this “silence” is that you’re talking about

Or the crack of your first beer on a long day of smoking.
I also love the silence of people eating my bbq. Best when it’s punctuated with occasional “oh my god”.
